This was so much more than dinner . We made reservations for a group of 4 back in Nov , March was their first opening . Well worth the wait . Walking into a home and being served an Italian "sunday" dinner was like nothing we ever had done . Do not take their directions of come hungry lightly , you will get a lot of food , 6 or so apps , salad , 2 pasta dishes , a main course and 3 or so deserts . Nothing we had was the best but it was all very good . The servers were great and the owner really made us feel welcomed . BYOB , they prefer cash and parking in J.C. was surprisingly easy to find . Can't wait to return with another group of friends .
Be the first to ReplyA throw back to an earlier time, when family gathered, conversed, savored a meal
I can understand the appeal of this establishment to the younger urban crowd whose lives are busy, hectic and multi-tasked where food is ordered on the phone or eaten on the run and rarely appreciated. 15 Fox Place is a throw back to an earlier time, when family gathered, conversed, savored a meal and enjoyed each others company. Here you are welcomed into someone's home. Nothing is staged, the decorations are family heirlooms, everything is as it was. You recognize the pictures on the wall as the staff's younger self and you are embraced, not as patrons in a restaurant, but as welcomed family. The house was the family home of the owners, now converted into a restaurant, and is a collection of small rooms, vestibules, and alcoves, stuffed with tables and chairs and memories. It is crowded, confined and makeshift just like you remember your Grandma's. It is a treasure that sweeps you into the arms of a family you never knew you had. We were a group of 15 celebrating a milestone birthday, seated on a second floor landing, three tables of four and one of three. Conversation between tables was difficult because of the confinement, yet the staff encouraged us to mingle and to explore the home. And the food; the food is almost secondary. It is served in courses, family style. Portions are small but purposely so to help pace yourself over the total amount of food served. Honestly, this is not the Italian family meal I remember as a child where a huge main course, and salad, followed by dessert was the fare. Here, a euphony of small dishes such as stuffed eggplant, lemon pasta, roasted peppers, Manicotti, polenta with sausage and 'gravy' are served in sequence but slowly timed to allow you to savor the moment. After a seemingly endless stream of small dishes, the main course arrives but it is itself a small dish, rolled chicken stuffed cooked in wine. All this is followed by deserts of chocolate lava cake, zeppole filled with cheese, and Italian cookies. The patriarch and original owner of the home then offers homemade Limoncello to all. The food was good, sometimes great but never exceptional. But taken as a whole, the food, the ambiance, the enjoyment conversing with friends and family, the welcoming of the staff and owners made these three hours a wonderful experience. Many guests Uber to this residential neighborhood, but if you drive, street parking is more readily available then some other areas of Jersey City. The restaurant is BYOB and the staff will chill and serve your wine. Considering it is BYOB, cost for the evening is not cheap, but I would definitely recommend 15 Fox Place for your special occasions.
Be the first to ReplyA Unique Dining Experience
This is event dining at its best. An unassuming home on a quiet street in the Marion Section of Jersey City is the setting for a very unique prix fix multi course dinner that’s like coming home for the holidays any time of the year. The staff is warm and personable as they serve delicious course after course. Pace yourself because the desert at the finish line is a luscious reward. Reserve ahead, bring a crowd, you’ll have a ball.

What a charming experience....from the moment we walked in we felt like we were entering an old friend's home. We escorted to a private dining area with one table perfectly and elegantly set. The food was abundant and for the most part tasty..they accommodated and successfully attended to a specific dietary restriction....while I cannot say the food was beyond reproach taste wise I can easily say it was more than worth the cost of the meal. The waitress was an A Plus.....and made the experience, a visit from the father of the chef was also a nice touch....overall a relaxing, pleasant evening.....

Went to 15 Fox Place this past Sat with a party of 13. From start to finish the meal and whole experience was amazing. There is no menu w only 1 sitting a night, and although they say it was a six course meal it seemed much more. From the food to decor, to the atmosphere it truly reminded me of my yrs growing up in an Italian family. The two owners were extremely nice and spent plenty of time talking to the table and letting us check out the whole house including the kitchen. it was truly a special meal that wont be forgotten any time soon.

The service, as expected, was top notch. The venue itself also lived up to expectations. Unfortunately the food did not. The meal started off very nicely with multiple small shared dishes arriving at the table quickly after we sat down. The escarole and bean with pepperoni was phenomenal. The Ragu with polenta was also quite nice. From that point on it was just meh. The noodle for the ravioli was mushy and bland, at one point a single mussel was served and the 15+ course meal built up to .....a chicken roulade. I was expecting more. Maybe it was an off night but at $250 w/tip for 2 of us the meal was not at all worth it. 😕😕☹️

It was the best meal I've had any were in the world. Bring your own wine, they chill it . It's the same meal as a formal dinner in an Italian home. We tried to keep track of the the number of differrant plates they served ( estamate 22 courses. One better then the next ) It's a small home with tables from 2 to 16 places. Each table is full of crystal, china linen. It's a bargain at $100 per person The owners are wonderful ,the staff friendly and professional. It is the best dinning experience . Dan

A group of eight friends went to 15 Fox Place on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The restaurant is actually a home, in which the rooms have been set-up as dining areas. We were upstairs, in a lovely dining area decorated with antiques. The server was Udaldo, who took excellent care of us,and kept our wine glasses filled. The restaurant does not sell wine, so we brought our own, which helped keep costs down. The service, the ambiance were wonderful. The food consisted of many Italian tapas, many like the polenta with tomato, and the bread filled with fresh vegetables were delicious. There were many courses, although most were average tasting, rather than exceptional.

15 Fox Place is a home in Jersey City, on a short, quiet block that has been converted into a restaurant. Reservations are a must, and there is only one sitting at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You do not choose the menu. There is a multi-course menu served for all the guests. We were upstairs, in a beautiful dining area. Next to us was a group in a more private room with about the same number of guests. The prix-fix is about ninety dollars, plus tip and taxes added to your bill. The family prefers cash payments. We were served by Uvaldo, who was attentive, served promptly, and kept our glasses full of wine, which we brought to the restaurant. BYO minimizes the overall cost of the meal and allows you to choose what you like to drink. The food was Italian, and some of the dishes were tasty, while others were average. The bread was homemade and delicious, as was the polenta with tomato gravy. The second course was chicken roulades served family style with vegetables,. They were appetizers rather than a main meal. Overall, the place is charming, the owner is friendly and attends to his guests, the service from Uvaldo was fine. but the dishes were Italian tapas that did not rate the price paid for the experience.

For $120 per person we were served the following: - 3" round and flat fried zeppole dough with tomato sauce on top - 2" long green pepper stuffed with dry bread crumbs - Potato chips with sliced hot peppers - Polenta with sausage tomato sauce (this was very good) - One mussel with garlic and bread crumbs - One 1 1/2" crabcake (fishy tasting) - One 4" x 1" manicotti stuffed with ricotta - One 2" x 1" eggplant stuffed with cheese - 1/4 cup of cherry tomato and bean salad with some lettuce stuffed in fried bread - 1/2 cup of pasta with cream and an asparagus tip - One 4" x 1" rolled chicken breast stuffed with the same dry stuffing as in the pepper. No gravy. This was too dry to eat. - 1/4 cup of candied yams - 1/4 cup mashed potatoes without gravy - Cookies - Chocolate lava cake with ice cream - 1" cannoli made with zeppole dough - coffee - One glass of seltzer as they only had a limited number of cans Basically, we were served ultra low cost, high carb filler food that lacked nutritional value. The website included steak and shrimp for the main course which was not served. For or $240 per couple this is what can be expected at this restaurant. You would have a difficult time spending that at the most expensive restaurant in the area. Beware!
