Good dim sum!!
This is the first time I’ve visited this particular dim sum spot, it’s a cute store front with tons of options especially, moon cakes. The only down side during this visit was that the sit-down area was closed, to-go orders only and I wasn’t in the mood to eat in the car but I also didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to try a new spot. I ordered 3 items; shumai, leek cake and sweet bun! The ingredients seem to be better than that of its competition Won kok, the prices are also reasonable. Can’t wait to come back when I am able to sit and enjoy my meal….
Be the first to ReplyLong's wil make you want to drive to the SGV
Long enjoyed by locals for Chinese Pastry and cheap Dim Sum it was on Mother’s Day that Long’s Family Pastry was found with a short line, the trio if vagrants lured by ownership’s apparent laissez-faire approach to shoplifting not exactly part of Long’s appeal but instead indicative of the area surrounding Los Angeles’ Chinatown. Underdiscussed in comparison to the San Gabriel Valley neighborhoods, but more accessible to foot traffic and downtown, it is with social distancing guidelines in place that guests entering Long’s receive immediate attention, staff’s desire to make a sale and move on creating palpable pressure for first timers. Offering a variety of labeled sweets and savories, with prices prominent of a menu board, it was while observing the kitchen in back that seven items were tallied to $16, the Chinese Donut an immediate disappointment sopping with Oil while Long’s Taro Cake tastes like Potatoes cooked in Chicken Broth for too much time. Improved with Moon Cakes, three plus or minus Egg Yolks featuring golden Pasty and thick filling, Long’s Sesame Ball is well worth its $0.95 while $1.25 for an Egg Custard Tart would be a bargain were it not flaccid and nearly flavorless. Finishing up with two Buns, “Egg Snow” a disastrous item with what tastes like mushy Pork inside, do instead save money for one labeled Custard that offers fluffy Bread surrounding sweet and creamy molten filling.
Be the first to ReplyBest Baked and Steamed Bbq Pork Buns
They have the best barbq baked and steamed pork buns. The ratio of the meat and bread/dough is perfect. Some other places have more bread/dough than meat. They got it right at this place.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, authentic hole-in-the-wall Chinese Bakery and Dim Sum!
Oh, how I love this place...and how I sometimes (like when my clothes start feeling kinda tight around the midsection) wish that I could forget ever finding it! Probably how meth users feel when they think back on their first hit - loved it, wished they'd never done it, want another one! My car seems to make it's own way over to Longs Family Pastry in the morning on the last leg of my drive to work, my mind subconsciously seeking out the breakfast of the gods - delicacies like Ha Gow (shrimp) and Siew Mai (pork) steamed dumplings, delectable pastries wrapped around hot dogs (Yes, HOT DOGS!!), and steamed bbq pork buns. Everything is cheap - .55/each for the dumplings, a buck for the pork buns and hot dog pastries. (These are late 2018 prices in Downtown LA. AMAZING, right!) Their egg rolls (3/$1.29) are tasty too, the almond cookies are delightful, and they have a whole bunch of other stuff to try. Don't let the "ambiance" (or lack thereof) deter you from this gem. Yes, you'll see the occasional hobo hanging out on the sidewalk, the street and walk are kinda dirty, and if you go in the morning you'll see cages with thousands of live chickens being unloaded from semi-trucks right next door, probably going into a connected kitchen and all surely soon to be turned to account in the preparation of some delicious concoction or another. There are a few small tables inside, where a sedate group of older Chinese regulars typically hold court. I say regulars because I've been regularly going in there to pick up some dumplings for breakfast, and I keep seeing the same guys every time. Lots of tradesmen and construction workers seem to like this place too - porridge and a pastry seems to be the breakfast of choice for this crowd. Overall, you get everything from suited office stiffs (like me) to retirees and laborers, but with a high representation of folks who I'm sure know what authentic dim sum tastes like, and wouldn't settle for anything less. It's a great cross section of Los Angeles. I love this place...and have gained at least 15 pounds because of it!
Be the first to ReplyBetter than average dimsum
A bit worn pastry shop that has all the dim sum pastries you find at Chinese restaurants, but very reasonably priced. Weekend mornings are the busy times, but wait times are reasonable. The cha shu bao (both steamed and baked bums) are superb; there is jook (rice porridge) is served in the mornings for a traditional Chinese breakfast. The sitdown area is worn and not very pretty, but the pastries are better than average.

I've been a customer for years and really appreciate this place since the prices skyrocketed and or shrunken in size. Unfortunately, I don't get to Chinatown often but since I was in route heading home from Santa Monica - so it was perfect timing. I purchased $17.00 worth of har gow, shu mai and various other precious goodies that were just delish. I couldn't wait to get home and inhaled a few pieces in my car. This place makes some of the best zongzi (Chinese tamale) around and they are filled inside of the sticky rice with nuts, aged egg, sausage, and pork. Happy to see some great things haven't changed - I'll be returning.
