My husband and I had dinner at Alain Ducasse to close out
My husband and I had dinner at Alain Ducasse to close out our short trip in London. No disrespect, but Alain Ducasse was our second choice after we found out that Clare Smyth's restaurant was booked up. For our experience at Alain Ducasse, the service was top-notch. The food was artfully executed but not palatable to our taste. I felt the same way at The French Laundry (Yountville, CA) and Kashiwaya (Osaka, Japan). Unfortunately, you don't always have a great meal at a 3-star Michelin restaurant. 1st course: This was my favorite of the entire tasting menu. A lovely scallop dish topped with Kristal caviar and beurre balance sauce was the perfect bite. 2nd course: A cauliflower-hazelnut dish created with seasonal ingredients but just tasted very mid. 3rd course: Lobster was slightly overcooked. 4th course: Turbot was perfectly prepared. It was delicious, but I have to say I barely tasted the sea urchin. 5th course: Venison, also perfectly prepared and delicious. At this point, nothing really blew me away. Everything tasted good but not amazing. The next 2 courses were dessert courses and, as expected, were not exciting. 6th course: This course included 3 types of cheeses, one being particularly pungent. While I do enjoy some cheeses, I find myself unable to appreciate stinky cheese. 7th course: The final course was a green apple sorbet of sorts, sorry to put it so simply. It was very, very tart, but not bad. Since we were celebrating an anniversary, the chef sent us a baba au rhum, which was very kind of him/her. Alain Ducasse is such a culinary legend, and I really wanted to like his food, but I just didn't. I'm very sorry to say this tasting menu was not very fun.
Be the first to ReplyThey are not accommodating.
They don't care , they just want your money. I flew in from London and I arrived sick, I had severe motion sickness and dehydrated. I called to cancel my reservation since I was so sick and told them if I end up going there, I would throw up. They didn't care about my health. They charged me 500 pounds for cancelling. I should have showed up and just thrown up at the restaurant!! They don't care about you at all!!

This was my first 3 Michelin star experience in London and I wanted to make sure I picked one that had been there the longest. When we sat down someone greeted us right away and then it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come back over. That was the only hiccup during the whole evening but all the food with the presentation and flavor was excellent. It is one of those restaurants that you need to check off the list. Definitely give it a try if your able to score a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyVery difficult! A three star Michelin restaurant.
Expectations are high. One spends a few thousand dollars or a few thousand pounds for not only the experience but heavenly food. While the food was good and the service was good...it was not mind blowing by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone was disappointed. The staff was courteous and did their roles. I was wearing a black suit, they only had white napkins which I have not seen before. Possible white lint on a black suit is why I always have seen different colored napkins available. There were times where one wine glass was different from the others. Thought that was odd. A little sloppy. They were very good at planning menu options for anyone with allergies. The food did seem to have an over citrus flavor theme throughout. Not a big citrus fan. So I personally had a problem. There was one dish that features a small bit of sardines to add variety of flavor. Seemed very poorly executed. Was not spread evenly to give the full consistent taste. One bite had none. Another bite that sardine is all I tasted and another was perfect. The steak dish had no flavor at all. Even a little salt would have helped. We enjoyed the cream that came with the caviar, scallop and the lobster dish the most. Most of the dishes were not memorable. I would not come back here. Once again there are so many good options available.

Dining at an Alain Ducasse establishment is always a transcendent experience, and this restaurant was no exception. The attention to detail is palpable from the moment you walk in -- the ambiance is both luxurious and welcoming. The menu is a symphony of flavors, each dish showcasing Ducasse's commitment to culinary excellence. The staff was impeccable in their service, ensuring our evening was flawless. A special mention to the sommelier, whose wine pairings elevated each course to perfection. This is more than just a meal, it's a journey. Highly recommended for those seeking an unparalleled dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe waiters are beyond helpful and communicative.
Our waiter was so wonderful that when I asked how the kitchens were run, he brought us back to the kitchens to meet the chef. As for the food, it starts and ends with the lobster dish. It was the absolute best. The scallop dish was also phenomenal. My husband jokingly told the waiter it was the second best scallop he'd ever had... Not sure why my husband said that, but rest assured, it was the best scallop. The ambience was nice and open so you were not close to any other tables, and had privacy in conversation. We also liked that they offered wine in half bottles, as often a full bottle is too much. Excellent evening.

I called from my hotel JW Marriott and was told that I could come by. One of the 3 all-white female hosts saw my Asian face told me to wait so that she could check. She took a while to go inside and came out to tell me that there was no seat available and told me to check with the Chinese restaurant next door! If you are an Asian, you should avoid this racist restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyIn pictures and in words, I cannot do this experience
In pictures and in words, I cannot do this experience justice. The name Alain Ducasse guarantees that the food will be perfection (and indeed it was). We thought we were going to enjoy a three course lunch and maybe some bread, but we got to sample so many lovely surprises along the way! From the richly flavorful canapes to an exquisite amuse bouche to the post-dessert treats (the leaf-thin chocolate pastries alone would justify a revisit) we enjoyed the most precise, perfected flavors from sour to savory to sweet. The (included!) glasses of red and white wine were a lovely touch that surely contributed to our ascent to culinary heaven. We've tried and loved many a bread-and-butter but we've reached a new peak with the delightful bread trolley, an incredible (lemony?) whipped curd and fluffy homemade butter. And needless to say, the lunch itself was delicious. My soft boiled egg with radish in chicken jus was the best I'll ever eat, a meticulously arranged harmony of textures and appetizing acidity. The homemade agnolotti was filled with bursts of unidentifiably otherworldly savory flavor. My mom thought her fillet of lemon sole with sweetcorn was life-changing - who knew corn could taste so good!?My chocolate / hazelnut praline / caramel dessert is the glittering standard to which all desserts should be held. A flawless marriage of textures, temperatures, and nuttiness that filled my tastebuds with overwhelming freshness (not sweetness), bringing out the best of each of its ingredients. I have never loved a dessert more and I think the only thing that will come close is a second serving :-)Above and beyond the food itself, what made our experience today so magical was the service. From the minute we were ushered to our table, every detail was painstakingly thought through and the choreography of the meal cleanly executed; every person made us feel so comfortable and truly taken care of. For the hospitality alone, Alain Ducasse is unforgettable and unparalleled.I've literally run out of caption space but this has been our best dining experience to date: this is everything fine dining should be.Dined: August 25, 2021
Be the first to ReplyAlain Ducasse restaurants never disappoint.
They have a standard that is top level. The three Star experience at the dorchester is more relaxed than the paris restaurants which is nice. Dim quiet interior. Helpful staff. They treat you great. As they should for the price. Extensive drink menu and knowledgeable sommelier. Started with a gin martini and then to wine. The meal is obviously very elevated. My stars where the first few dishes. The Jerusalem artichoke was amazing. And the trio of cauliflower was inspired. The new builds to a surprisingly refreshing dessert. I enjoyed that. After such a decadent meal I don't need a heavy sweet. But, if you have a sweet tooth don't worry they give you plenty of chocolate. If I am being nit picky and hyper hyper critical, I wish the later dishes packed more of a punch and I wish the beef was seared a bit more. That is a pretty minor thing. Perfect place for a birthday or anniversary.
Be the first to ReplyIt's a little weird to review a 3 Michelin Star restaurant.
We had a flower menu lunch in May and everything was exquisite. The flower salad was a flavorful dance. The chicken: I finally know what a well-cooked piece of chicken is supposed to be. The chocolates were a fun treat and they even sent me on my way with a goody bad. The food is awesome, and the service is unmatchable. They are so aware of you and their presentation of plates is amazing. One tiny hiccup was a server who accidentally dropped the little bread rolls. I swear I could see her soul die a little. Everything is so incredibly orchestrated. I can see why it's a 3-star rating. If you want to splurge in London, go here. They are great at following up on online reservations. The entire experience was out of this world.
Be the first to ReplyWell , that was not my first experience in top restaurant
Well , that was not my first experience in top restaurant like that but I was impressed with talent and art of Alain Ducasse cooking. The food on the plate was so small but the flavors , colors and well balanced proposition of food where unlimited with imagination. The only stop from that tasting travel experience was an other plate of food and proposition With took you to other places of the dinner smoothness, richness & freshness of tast. Very nice atmosphere and royalty service. I can't describe more ... If you can afford that food -go for it.
Be the first to ReplyThis has been the best birthday dinner! I wasn't able to
This has been the best birthday dinner! I wasn't able to get a reservation online due to it being full and I really wanted to come here so I emailed them and asked for a table. The person helping me was very nice and was able to accommodate us. First off, the hotel is beautiful! The restaurant is towards the back right before the bar area. We arrived a bit early so we decided to have a glass of Moët to start off our night. We did the chef menu tasting with the wine pairing and everything was delicious. Every plate had a very different type of taste which, for me, is the best part of chef tastings. Its like Disneyland for your tastebuds.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food.
..odd to poor serviceMy husband and I dined here on 13/10/2018 with a 7:30 reservation. This restaurant is located in The Dorchester. The setting and ambience of the hotel is beautiful. When we arrived, the hostess invited us to have a seat at the bar outside for a glass of champagne (not complimentary). This was a bit confusing as I don't know if maybe our table wasn't ready or something else? We refused after clarifying where or not this was part of the experience and I cannot drink much as it blows out my palate.I want to say that the food here is excellent. Everything smells wonderful and is delicious. All the tastes and flavors that a 3 Michelin Star restaurant would warrant. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant but for the food alone, I would come back.Service here...is questionable. My husband and I did the standard (non-seasonal) tasting menu. Service was very good until about half way through the courses where it appears that the staff slowly started to disappear and the time between our courses greatly increased to an almost unbearable level. Our dinner which I would have expected to be 3 hours long was was 4 hours; we left at around 11:30. About 1.5 hours of this was unnecessary down time where no food was present and no servers were present to inquire what was going on. It took us about 40 minutes to actually get the bill and pay after we asked for the bill.Unfortunately, we believe this is one of those restaurants which we feel like service is better if you drink and drink a lot. As I mentioned, drinking even 2 glasses will blow out my palate and so usually I don't drink and my husband cannot drink more than 2 glasses of wine so we only ordered water. The reason we feel this way is because we were sat about 8 feet and within view of another table which had the same set of wait staff (main server and all) and they received superior service. It's a weird and sad feeling when you get to a restaurant first and are going through a tasting and you see another table sit down and order a bottle or two of wine and start their meal and then you begin wondering where you next course is because it's been about 20 minutes since they cleared your plate and realize that their tasting has already surpassed yours. It's even worse when, you flag down your main server to ask for the bill because no one has come by your table for 30 minutes after your last dish( and if they have they avert their eyes and focus on the other table) and he says it will be coming and then proceed to ask if that table in sight is ready for their bill (unprompted) and lets them pay and then asks them if they want to go to the kitchen and takes them to the kitchen and back BEFORE coming back 20 minutes later to have someone bring you the bill. It basically felt like a slap in the face. Our bill was also incorrect because they charged us for an additional bottle of water which when we pointed this out they went to checked with our server and said "it was correct..but if you *insist* we've removed it from the bill" in a condescending way. Thanks for basically calling me a liar .... ;/I left the restaurant wondering if it was because I didn't drink, if it was because I'm asian (seriously I usually never think this but I wonder if maybe that was the case and feel like I'm talking crazy because nothing would suggest this except what else was different and I've heard that this was a thing in London???), is it because I didn't run up a "large" tab, Is it something else!?What would have otherwise been an excellent dining experience was ruined by the service. That being said, this meal was a "steal". For the quality of the food, I can ignore the service faults for the more than reasonable price that the tasting menu is set as. The tasting is half of what you would pay for a comparable meal in San Francisco. I don't have qualms about coming back but I would hope that the service is greatly improved the next time I'm in London.x-posted from TripAdvisor
Be the first to ReplyPlz do not come to this restaurant if you're on lying
Plz do not come to this restaurant if you're on lying trying to experience some Michelin starred quality. First the food only deserves a Michelin 1 Star. Second, the champagne is not included in the lunch menu, and they won't even give you the wine card to warn you how much it costs. They would use their stupid french accent to say the name of the wine real fast so you don't have time to catch up. And then trick you into buying a glass of champagne for 64 pounds it's ridiculous. Worst experience I have even had in a Michelin starred restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyFirst off the Dorchester itself is just so impressive.
This historic hotel has hosted many famous people and just oozes old school charm and opulence. The restaurant itself is about half way in the back the lobby and is a lovely space on it's own - formal but not stuffy. The wall decor is very modern and interesting and there is a large private area blocked off with chandelier lights the length of the wall - very pretty. As for the food, it doesn't disappoint and you can quickly tell why this is a three star Michelin. Every dish was perfectly cooked and plated in a way that almost made it too pretty to eat. The standouts for me were the seared foie gras and the beef ribeye. Both were just melt in your mouth delicious. The price also seemed fair and on point with other 3 star michelins I've visited. If your budget and time allows for you to dine here I highly recommend it as it's a lovely experience and one you won't soon forget.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good but definitely not up to what I expected
The food is good but definitely not up to what I expected from a three star Michelin restaurant. The squid appetizer was tasty, but everything else was salty and unimaginative. Worst, the dessert was just chocolate and macarons which you can get much better versions of at for example La Duree. Terrible value for money.
Be the first to ReplyThe chef's gifts of pate choux and fish soup were superb.
I had the heirloom tomatoes and they are very nice, but not what I expected. They arrive in a bowl with a lattice work of bread and have been baked with cheese. The beef was perfectly cooked and paired with artichokes. I ordered a chocolate dessert that was very rich with ice cream. My companions all got the baba with rum and were raving over it Update: this is our third time here. Although, the staff greeted as usual, one of the waitstaff admonished me curtly when I went to move my water glass over to help him make room for my daughter's appetizer. His exact words were, "Madam, please!" In a condescending tone. The signature appetizer of lobster and truffled chicken was ok. Not worth the additional ten pounds. The mushrooms were tough and chewy. The sauce was excellent. The dry aged beef is normally excellent here;however, tonight it lacked flavor and was over cooked. Three of our party sent their meat back because it was cooked well done and they asked for medium. Tonight real "Texas-style" steak knives were needed rather than the dull knives given for these steaks. The bone marrow was excellent as always. The accompanying artichoke pieces were dry and had no flavor. The three steaks that were returned were from a different cut of meat and were perfectly cooked and lacked the fat and grizzle the other two at the table had. The hot towel service after the entrees is refreshing. We skipped the cheese course because the streaks took so long coming out. The dark chocolate truffle before dessert was excellent. The coconut chocolate truffle was ok. The lemon mint soufflé served with lemon sorbet on the side was not spectacular and was quite tart. The fresh minced mint leaves were all at the bottom so there was no "marrying" of the flavors. It was more like two strangers only nodding at each other. The Baba dessert with rum is served with your choice of rum and was excellent and highly recommended. After tea, our waiter came to apologize about the three steaks and the bill was adjusted. We are going there two more times in the next week...so we are hoping for good things and keeping a positive and hopeful attitude.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal I had in London.
Went for lunch and they were serving the Chelsea flower show menu. Service was excellent as well as the wine pairings. The food was what you would expect at a 3 Star Michelin restaurant-"fantastic". Approximately 3 hours from start to finish. I would recommend going for lunch as it's a bit less in cost compared to dinner.
