We stopped by for a bottle of wine before a show last month
We stopped by for a bottle of wine before a show last month when our omakase dinner let us enough time for a few more drinks. We didn't have a reservation but got lucky - there were two seats at the bar when we arrived! The service was great, and the bartender talked us through some of the skin contact/natural options they had by the bottle and recommended one in particular. I'm glad we trusted her recommendation, because the wine was excellent, special. The space is cool - high ceilings, but dark and moody. Loved the ambiance. I'd happily return, drink another recommended bottle, and maybe even nosh on their cheese boards (which looked beautiful and delicious) before another show. A great place to drink some wine if you want a great, interesting selection (including natural, skin contact options).

Any wine you choose will be amazing no matter what. The service here is impeccable - the wait staff are so friendly and attentive. Julia, the manager, is amazing at what she does! Highly recommend for anyone visiting NYC to stop by for a bottle or two.
Be the first to ReplyHighlights: An impressive selection and knowledge of wine.
Good charcuterie Good service Great eye candy - look at the shelves on the wall Enough of the highlights. We dropped in for a light bite to eat and some wine. We ordered their beef bresaola, along with a glass of Roman Ceremony and Castillo di Ama. We were sharing the glasses. Both wines were really good. The charcuterie was tasty and quite generous. Now look around - you'll see some molds on the shelves for example that look like glass halves. They are just that - the two pieces of wood that wine glasses are formed into. So much eye candy, from art on the walls, to the shelves of things to look at - it was really a nice experience. If and when we go back to New York, we'll make sure to stop back in. The bathrooms were very nice and clean. See the photos below. The place is impressive.

Excellent wine list, knowledgeable somms and yummy fondue - we will definitely return! We visited twice on our trip to NYC from Napa CA - always nice to find excellent wine when not in Napa
Be the first to ReplyLove the space here to grab drinks and quick bites.
The venue is pretty big with lounge seating and a bar. Perfect for walking in. They have a wide variety of bites and a good wine list. The service is on par, attentive and friendly. Wasn't rushed out like some places. Would def recommend checking out!
Be the first to ReplyFood and tapas and sharing plates are actually very good.
Duck is amazing here. However, few things are of. First the Prosciutto is not the good one, same as burrata. It's always easy to write hurrata on the menu and then give you a mozzarella or cold buratta. Insane. The wine is good, but the Italian wine list is way tooooo expensive. It's ridiculous how everything with the name Italian has to be expensive. I can buy the same wine in Italy' 80% less, and I know wine well.

I am COMPLETELY mortified I brought my girlfriend here, or waste our time on a quick food trip from 4 states away to try to eat at something I would of thought, having being the faces of Aldo and Ripert, would be at least somewhat acceptable. Haven't been on this site in a while to give a review but let me save you time, money, frustration. Wine, on point. But this is a food and wine bar. Croque monsieur....bologna sandwich, remote cheese. My 10 year old makes more acceptable sandwiches for her school lunch. Herbed Parmesan fries. Fucking McDonalds fries. I'm 1000% convinced. Truffle pasta. A soup bowl of olive oil butter mixture with linguine drowning in it. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't so blatantly obvious NOBODY GIVES A SHIT. Shame on Aldo for not changing its cooking game. Shame on Ripert for using his face to save this place. *****prediction. This wine food bar will not be there in the next year.
Be the first to ReplyCarolina was amazing.
We ordered the chefs 3 cheeses and she paired them to our first wine choice perfectly. Our main dishes she did the same thing. The truffle pasta and crispy duck were mouth watering.
Be the first to Replyoh, i loved this place so much.
i used to work right nearby, and while i had heard good things, not sure why i never made it in. finally got to try recently, and i was not disappointed. it was aided by the fact that we actually got to meet the legendary man himself, aldo sohm. he was so gracious and spent several minutes talking to our party, which made some of my wine enthusiast friends quite content. i like the small bites we had -- the charcuterie and cheese tower is quite a spectacle, but maybe it's form over function because i found myself constantly having to maneuver around it; didn't affect taste though! the braised carrots were nice, with a little bit of a middle eastern touch and topped with mint. the wine list is extraordinary, and the servers + aldo are more than happy to make recommendations. that might be needed if you aren't super knowledgeable about wines. oh! and pro-tip you can ask for special wine glasses (zalto brand) to enhance your tasting experience. i can't wait to come back.

Think intimate, charming and all around good vibes. The food is great, the wine is excellent and the service is impeccable. We had Jasmine and she was a wealth of knowledge and gave us all the best recommendations. Can't wait to come back!

Express lunch was straightforward good if not inventive, but that's ok because it was well done. Mushroom croque was especially well done - crispy on the outside and fluffy and gooey cheese on the inside. Solid friendly service.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is small but a hidden little gem.
The service was outstanding, very attentive and helpful. I had the endive salad. It comes with blue cheese dressing. If you like blue cheese, it's a must try. The baguette and olive oil was also delicious. The cookies with jam are tasty, but not $10 for three tasty. Overall, a very solid experience in a cozy atmosphere.

Aldo Sohm has long been one of midtown's hidden treasures - a wine bar situated in an arcade on "6 1/2 Avenue" between 51st and 52nd St. Excellent for after-dinner drinks and (tasty but expensive) small plates, a delight for sharing cheese and/or charcuterie with out-of-town guests. The staff is very knowledgeable about the intruing wine list. But since the pandemic...something happened. A few weeks ago we arrived a little after 10:00 on a Friday night, when our Broadway show let out, and were told - not nicely - that the place was closed for the night. Huh. Yelp says it's open until midnight, but...whatever. Then last Saturday we walked by at 11:00, eager to celebrate both the show we just saw and Senator Catherine Cortez Mastro's victory in Nevada. The place was bustling; half the tables were full of people enjoying food and drink. Again, we were informed - again, not nicely -- that the place was closed for the night. OK, we give up.

I have been stopping at this place, post theater, for almost ten years. Occasionally, I'll have a snack or dessert, usually, an insightful conversation with a fellow patron, but always, it is because of their remarkable wine by the glass options. On each visit I'm guaranteed a collection of varied alternatives. The staff is exceedingly knowledgeable about the nuances of each option. I know, regardless of my choice, it will be a great choice and the perfect end to a memorable evening.

Stopped by for post-dinner drinks with friends on a Thursday night and we were able to make a reservation ahead of time. We only ordered drinks so this review is mainly around the wine and ambiance. There's plenty of lounge seating inside and outside and the mood overall is great - classy and comfortable it's a great setting all around. For the wine menu, there is a page of wines that can be ordered by the glass and we ended trying a few different wines. I personally loved the orange wine and my friend really liked the wines that our waiter recommended. One odd note is that they only have one wine menu for several tables so we weren't able to keep a menu which for a wine bar, it would be easy to have a digital menu if the selection changes often.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an awesome spot.
Had dinner at Le Bernardin the night prior and made it to Aldo's bar the following day. Ana O is full of knowledge and I def learned and enjoyed all her recommendations! I will be back!!!

We were very excited this cozy wine place in the city at first. But when we walked in, the hostess said we cannot not sit at the high top table but should sit at the bar when the whole place was almost empty. We asked why not the four sitter table and she said they reserved for a bigger party!! I stillDont know what it was about but still hurt my feeling!! At what point did we get judged on???

Excellent choice for a wine bar in Midtown NYC area! We have been to the sibling business, Le Bernardin, nearby, but definitely preferred this location! Staff and service are exceptional! The wine selection is fantastic and food options were great. Our group ordered and shared most dishes so we had a chance to try them all! Overall very good choice for wine bar

After coming to Aldo Sohm Wine Bar many years ago--and then reading Aldo's book just last year--I really wanted to come by and visit again. I was not disappointed. The bar is located in a beautifully decorated and relatively small area tucked away between two office buildings in Midtown. You can make a reservation in advance, but it seems they leave a lot of the seating for walk-ins, so it's by no means a necessity. Service is friendly but not the quickest. The wine and snacks were terrific. To state the obvious, the bar has an excellent selection of wines by the glass and bottle, and the hosts seem to be knowledgeable about the list. The snacks are good too. We ordered three of the charcuterie to start, and each was well cut and came with a decent portion. We next tried the baked camembert, which is lovely but too rich to be finished by just two people. We then had the croque monsieur, which was good but not quite as much of a standout as I would've expected. And the endive salad is fairly standard but quite nice--you get some endive leaves and dip them in their very tasty blue cheese sauce. And, to top it all off, we briefly saw Aldo on his way out! Having used his book for about a year now, that was a nice surprise.
Be the first to ReplyVery delicious foods.
Excellent seating on a comfortable sofa. Feels like a cozy living room. Or they have high tables with high chairs. I prefer the sofa to sit lower. Better for legs. Waiter was wonderful and detailed oriented and LOVE the wine he picked. So good. Everything was wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a good time here.
The waitress that has helped me both times I've been is super nice and always makes great recommendations. Another plus is that I love the wine glasses they use here
Be the first to ReplyAldo Sohm Wine Bar (5/5)I've been wanting to go to Aldo
Aldo Sohm Wine Bar (5/5)I've been wanting to go to Aldo Sohm Wine Bar for a while and I finally got the chance to this week. Aldo Sohm Wine Bar was opened in 2014 by neighboring Le Bernadin's wine director, Aldo Sohm. I've followed Aldo Sohm online for a few years, learning about wine and getting numerous great wine recommendations. His wine bar was a great experience and lived up to all of my expectations.I got reservations a few days in advance for my fiance and I for Tuesday at 6:00pm so we could have a few drinks and small plates before we went to dinner. When we walked in I was glad I decided to get a reservation as there were already a lot of people there. We were seated at the corner of the couch in the center of the room. The ambience in the bar was really nice, and I liked the idea of having the couch in the center of the room. It was very cozy, and I think provided a better ambience as compared to a bunch of tables in the center. One of the things I love about Aldo Sohm Wine Bar is that they serve all of their wine in Zalto glasses. To anyone not familiar with Zalto, they are paper thin wine glasses, and easily the best wine glasses I've ever tried. To start, my fiancee and I both ordered a glass of the La Caravelle, Cuvée Niña, Champagne NV. It was an excellent and very enjoyable wine. We also ordered the chef's selection of three cheeses (we were served the Bucheron, Morbier, and Adrian Jack). All three were excellent and were served with different jams and a basket of sliced baguette. Our waiter had told us about the special wine they were pouring that night, and did a great job describing it so after our first glass of wine, we decided to try it ($27 per glass for this bottle). The wine was a 2008 Neumeister Klausen Sauvignon Blanc that they were pouring out of a large bottle (I believe a jeroboam). The wine was really great, and was a great experience. We also ordered the Trumpet Royale Mushrooms which was served on a bed of creamy polenta. The mushrooms and polenta were delicious and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of mushrooms.I can't wait to go back to Aldo Sohm Wine Bar! Our service was excellent, the ambience was great, and the food and wine didn't disappoint. To anyone looking for a great wine and food experience, definitely come check out Aldo Sohm Wine Bar!
