😍 5/5 - Superb Italian

After two dinners at ALLORA in Sacramento, there is but one thing I have to say: this is several steps above nearly anything nearby in terms of quality of food, excellence of presentation, depth of the wine list (Italians), and service. This is almost experimental Italian, refining old classics represented on the menu to perfection. If a car analogy would pertain, if classic Italian joints nearby were FIATs, this is a Maserati. The high tone of the food and the presentation is on the order of a starred Michelin restaurant: decorative, like eating from a piece of artwork, and perfect in taste. One needs to linger over each course, tasting each component, then in toto, to see what is actually being presented. The menu is divided into 5 parts: starters or crudi, antipasti, pasta and risotto, secundi or entree and dolci or desserts. This is offered in 3, 4 or 5 course menus, you choose and then choose from the menu to fill out your selection. The food is so rich and good that unless you are truly hungry, the 3 course menu is sufficient (and you can substitute a pasta, for example, for the entree if desired). The crudi are extra over the menu unless you do the 5 course. The service takes its time according to you, no rushing whatsoever. The sommelier is well versed in her ample collection from numerous Italian regions and serves as a great help to choose wine/s for the meal. Rarely does one find so many interesting wines from Italy in one spot. Curious about two, I was given tastes to determine my interest, which speaks to their focus not only on what the customer desires but their pride in their list. The bar itself is also deep and full of interesting things one rarely sees outside of Europe. All this said, it is not an inexpensive meal by any means but if you wish a superb - and I mean this intentionally - meal, you can hardly do much better in the area, if indeed at all. The restaurant is a modern look, no red tablecloth Italian joint here! There is also an outdoor terrace which is a delight in the warming weather, although with boisterous people it can be rather loud and distracting. Some sound muting effort on the brick walls would be a good addition. Very very highly recommended.
