Alpen Rose Philadelphia Reviews from The Last Year
The food service and ambiance was amazing.
The atmosphere gives off speak easy while the service is nothing short of fine dining. Everything from the plates to the ambiance was perfect especially sitting close to the semi open concept kitchen. Huge fan and will be returning. Despite our reservation being half an hour before close my partner and I did not feel rushed. The plates are a work of art as well!
If you want to spend $750 for dinner for four, have poor
If you want to spend $750 for dinner for four, have poor food, a limited and expensive wine list this is the place for you. I have eaten in restaurants in California, Philly, Maryland, Florida and France. This place was by far the worst. You can't find it. When you finally get close, you still can't because the entry in inside a small alcove just ouside the door. Once in the alcove, you still cannot enter because the door is looked. Then you must ring a door bell and wait. After a minute or so, a small window in the door opens and a man or woman asks what you want. The restaurant is a gimmick. If you want to waste you money, this is the place for you.
Staff are fantastic from time you are seated until you walk
Staff are fantastic from time you are seated until you walk out the door. Ambiance is a take you back to times of privacy and special treatment. Can not speak enough about the bone Marrow app that would have never tried it the waiter did not highly recommend as a MUST try and well worth living on the edge. Drinks were super creative and fun for our party tried most of the cocktails and shared for all to sample The steaks are wonderful and the Tomahawk was a real treat. There is something for everyone to dine and enjoy and plenty to take home. Wonderful family dinner.
My partner and I came here for our anniversary and it was
My partner and I came here for our anniversary and it was an awesome experience. It felt like we were in a completely different place the whole time. The interior was cozy and calm. Our server was incredibly sweet as well as the other staff members. Everyone was so nice to us the whole time. We weren't rushed and got great recommendations from the menu. The food was absolutely amazing. We got the lamb, the filet, creamed spinach, and potatoes. Everything tasted amazing and high quality. My favorite was the lamb shanks and the creamed spinach. Incredibly simple but flavorful. We ended the meal with the cheesecake mousse and they gave us complimentary rosé because they knew it was our anniversary from the reservation. It was so incredibly sweet and meant a lot. I would definitely come back here for a special occasion!
Ambience the best - Food subpar
Ate there last night. Great ambience and decor but one of the worst steakhouses I’ve been to as far as food goes. Got a NY strip Pittsburgh medium rare, it was about an inch thick if that and very tough to cut. The creamed spinach side dish was served in what looked like a coffee cup - very small portion. Been to all the steakhouses often. The food here just doesn’t compare to any of them. Sorry.
Have been wanting to try this spot for over a year - and it
Have been wanting to try this spot for over a year - and it did not disappoint!! We split the filet and the beef Wellington because we couldn't decide, melt in your mouth absolute perfection. The vibes are classy and boujee and the service was even better than the food, with suggestions because I really didn't know what to get!
Very nice hidden restaurant .
I was here on my husband's birthday. The food was great, the servers were friendly . Absolutely we will be back
This was my first time ever going to Alpen Rose and it was
This was my first time ever going to Alpen Rose and it was absolutely phenomenal. First off, the service from beginning to end was astounding. Our table wasn't ready yet and the bar was full so they took us over to Sampan so we could sit at that bar. When our table was ready, they came back and got us and gave us free grilled prawns for having to wait. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely get the bread because it was so good - I still think about it to this day. The salads were amazing, the steaks - incredible, and the chocolate cake? Omg. So good. The restaurant itself is super classy and nice. I loved the vibes. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd go here every weekend.
We've been to Alpen Rose a few times now and it's reliably
We've been to Alpen Rose a few times now and it's reliably delicious. A bit of a splurge but every time there's been something new and exciting. Highly recommend sitting at the bar!
Wow... where do I begin? I will start with a full
Wow... where do I begin? I will start with a full disclosure of the service because I don't want that to get lost down below. Staff here worked hard to make sure we had a wonderful time. My wife's NY Strip was wayyyy too rare for her tastes, she ordered a medium, they took it and the chef did a lousy job to change the internal temperature. Still pretty red in the middle. We decided to let them know again that the steak isn't cooked enough. The manager (Eric I think?) came and really went above and beyond. He apologized an enormous amount, gave us free desert, took off some sides off our bill, and gave us a fresh raw steak wrapped up to take home. The amazing thing is, we thought he just wrapped up the half eaten steak my wife received; we told him we will just cook it more at home. When we got home we found a fresh raw steak wrapped up for us! This is quality service. Additionally, the ambience is absolutely what it should be for a steakhouse. Classy, sophisticated, music not too loud. Drinks were excellently done. I got the "Refined No. 1" and it was like a mix between an Old Fashioned and a Rusty Nail. My wife ordered the "No. 112" and she loved it. Food was amazing. Beef Wellington blew me away with the tenderness and flavor. Mac & Cheese was elevated. Potato Pavé was perfectly golden. Carrots were alright, labneh didn't do much for it. All in all this is an amazing steakhouse that is a must if you live in Philly!
Superb.
Honestly, the best experience and meal I've had in a very long time. The second you walk into the door you are greeted with such a friendly environment that's classy and beautiful. The interior is small but the decor is classy creating a more romantic and chill environment. The service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive and sweet. Now the food, oh my dayz. Everything had me wanting more and more and if I didn't get full I'd order more. We got the oysters which were fantastic. Then we got the famous bone marrow toast and I now know why everyone raves about it. I would literally eat like 10 of these as my meal. The flavors were on point. Hands down the best dish. Then the ribeye was brilliant. Cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The baked Alaska was good, although I will say this was not my fav dish but my partner loved it. I think for me the run was a little too overpowering but the other desserts looked just as amazing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience and amazing food.
This places vibes is just immaculate, feels like it took me
This places vibes is just immaculate, feels like it took me back in time and I love it. Very very romantic atmosphere, perfect for date nights or anniversary/birthday celebrations with your S.O. The presentation is on point, from the cute little clipboard menus to them letting you take pics of the steak before taking it to cut for you right in front of you (my fave part bc cutting steak is my least favorite thing to do lol.) And let's talk about the food, chefs kiss! Flavor is on point, loved loved loved the lemony seasoning on the octopus. Ugh so good. Bone marrow toast was another fave dish of mine. Staff was amazing, great experience here!
Total Disgrace!!
I flew in from Paris and was excited to invite my mother and family to Alpen Rose after hearing all the hype. A difficult reservation, but I thought it was worth it - oh wow, how I was so wrong. When we arrived we were informed through a hole in the door that the table wasn’t yet ready so we were shuffled over to the sister restaurant to sit at their bar and buy drinks. Is this done on purpose to push the alcohol consumption? After a 25 minute wait we were finally brought to our table. A load of bread and a tuna carpaccio was gracefully offered to help us forget the wait. After ordering dinner and opening our first bottle of wine we were serenaded by the sound of whaling fire alarms - they set off a fire in the kitchen!! A few minutes later we were told that we had to leave as the kitchen was now closed and the alarm were whaling in our ears. The manager (Eric) gracefully presented me with a bill for two bottles of wine - we didn’t even touch the second bottle - the waitress opened it in anticipation of our dinner that they cancelled on us. An interesting concept to charge clients for a second bottle they didn’t touch while being victims of a cancelled dinner ! No a single apology, just a “here is the bill - pay it!” After a short heated discussion the manager, Eric Sailor, finally accepted to remove the second bottle. If the manager and the establishment knew a bit about hospitality they would have apologised and mentioned that there was nothing to pay, but know. Not the case at all. I regret not having my dinner, but am happy I have understood the true colours of this establishment. Take my advice, stay far away!! The captor grill will welcome you with a smile and a friendly and professional staff !
Awful service and drinks, sure place to ruin your special occasion
Me and my wife were super excited to try the new and exciting place in Philly. So I thought why not do it as a special occasion for her 50th birthday. BIG MISTAKE! We arrived for our reservation at 5pm on Oct 27th and we’re immediately rushed to our seats right across the door. The server, middle aged man, who came off as old school know it all been in the steakhouse business for 20 years greeted us briefly and asked for our drinks. He did NOT go over the style of the menu, restaurant rules or anything else to ease us into new environment, esp. after we told him it’s our first time here. He also made zero acknowledgement of the fact that we’re celebrating a major milestone. We managed to read through the menu is the dark and order 2 drinks: a very plain cucumber margarita that had zero flavor and a smoked old fashion. When the drinks were brought to the table the server ripped the top of the cloche and walked away causing all the smoke to blow into my wife’s face instead of gently floating above my drink as it supposed to be. And as I watched another server properly do to a pair of male customers that were sitting near bookshelves area. Then things got even more bizarre as the server came back demanding an order to be put in and when we told him that we want to start with just appetizers he only then mentioned the “restaurant rules” of having to order everything at once. It took us a minute to digest these news as this is something I must say I never experienced at any places dining around the world unless it was all part of the unique experience. Since we weren’t giving any choice we settled on just ordering the apps. Well that apparently didn’t sit well with the manager of the place -Eric, who promptly arrived at our table, reiterated the “rules” and told us that if we’re not happy about it he’d gladly comp our drinks so we can call it a day as he needs to make room for other customers. Clearly we were not a priority customers for Eric or the server so we decided to cut our losses and leave as he suggested. In my nearly 50 years of existence I must say I’ve never been treated with such disrespect and discrimination being 2 women just trying to enjoy special occasions.
Salmon Cooked With Love ❤️
Amazing, yummy and delicious food. We went here as a family and friends group of 7. We had steak, salmon, asparagus, mashed potatoes, macaroni, cauliflower, oysters and duck. All of the food was worth the wait. We were a large group and everything was cooked to perfection. Our new favorite ❤️ restaurant!
