My in-laws had their first date at Amalfi's in 1964.
It seemed only fitting to have my Mother-in Laws celebration of life in a place they both loved. They have been loyal customers for all these years. Amalfi's has been a place for our entire family to celebrate special occasions. We chose to have it catered and had around 50 people. Michael-Gene and her staff were all amazing everything was perfectly timed. The food was excellent we have received several messages to say how everyone loved it. Kiauna the owner even stopped in to offer her condolences. I would not hesitate to have catering events here. Thank you Amalfi's for taking such good care of Norm and Kathy over the years. You made yesterday a very special memory for all of us who loved Kathy.
Be the first to ReplyWe've definitely had better vegetarian Italian food in PDX.
Quantity was alright for sharing, definitely more than enough for 1 person. Service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive. It seemed to be a popular place for birthday celebrations. We had 4 other birthdays on that day. That being said- I'd recommend this place for someone trying it for the first time... we probably won't go back again.... Although the pizzas on the menu looked intriguing!! (Oh, none of us ordered pizzas.. so no reviews on that!) Here are all the vegetarian options we tried- Greek salad - was ok. I'd pass. Lasagna - ok.. better than manicotti Manicotti- hard pass! Cheesy garlic bread- dominos is better than this! So.. pass
Be the first to ReplyThe only constant in life is change.
I have so many fond memories of going to Amalfi's as a child with my family. We would order a pizza and watch the old clock with the hands that spun backwards with amusement. My how times change! We visited today for the first time in awhile. The ambiance has changed. They have a bar with a small fire pit and booths and tables up the stairs. They also have a Mercato where you can purchase take out food and other Italian treats. It seems to have lost its original Italian feel, but it's still a nice restaurant. They also have ample outdoor seating with live music during the summer which is nice. We ordered a half Legendary Combo and half Mediterranean pizza. The pizza wasn't as good as I remember. The cheese was a bit stringy, and the crust was too hard. Our original server was very friendly, but then she disappeared, and we had a total of 3 different servers that came to our table. Odd.. I wanted the nostalgic Amalfi's from my past, but tonight, I did not receive it.
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive for mediocre food.
The meat sauce tasted like spaghetti-o's. Chicken parmesan had no flavor. Bathrooms had an awful chlorine/bleach smell that made me dizzy. The staff were very nice tho.

My partner and I have been coming to Amalfi's for over ten years. We started as a delightful Christmas tradition. Tonight was unfortunately a lesser experience. In years past we were greeted in the lobby and seated by someone. Tonight we couldn't quite figure out if we were to seat ourselves or if we were to be seated. Apparently it's now seat yourself. One thing that struck us right away was the change in ambiance. New splashes of murals completely devoid of any Italian restaurant experience seemed odd. Didn't seem to really fit but oh well. One server was very nice and brought us real menus instead of the Covid era QR codes the restaurant still seems to employ. Our next server had an unprofessional appearance and disengaged. The food was fine but for more than $150 with tip, we were quite disappointed given the welcoming family type experience we had had in years past. The place was always packed. Tonight the bar was practically empty and all of the booths were unoccupied when we left. Maybe our Christmas tradition at Amalfi's ended tonight. I didn't feel like they were that interested. It's a great space but service is now severely lacking. Something changed when the ownership changed. And it's terribly unfortunate.
Be the first to Replyquiet and clean! Lots of parking space.
..great drinks and food! The food came out quickly...the ambience was nice too!

What happened? This was one of the best pizza places in Portland. Now I think that Domino's is better.
Be the first to ReplyI must have passed this place a hundred times, I'm around
I must have passed this place a hundred times, I'm around this area a lot because my dad lives pretty close to these establishments. My father and I and his friend came in here got a few drinks and got a pizza. Now considering Portland is surrounded by Pizza establishments everywhere you look, this place was actually pretty good. The toppings were fresh the cheese was fresh, the crust, it was okay, I do prefer thicker crust, but that's just the way they make their Pizza here. Very good customer service, a really laid-back spot, you can come in here just for a snack or a few drinks. I love the vibe here I would definitely come back.

Quality of food and service here have been lacking for several years. Maybe there was a change in ownership? Not sure. Certainly used to be better.

Went to Amalfi's on a Wednesday evening to have dinner with a friend. Upon approaching the restaurant, I noticed the exterior of the building was clean and so was the inside of the restaurant. You get to seat yourself. Signs said to place orders using the QR code, but the server said he would take our orders. I ordered the Lasagna which came with a piece of garlic bread and a Shirley Temple. I ordered the Greek Salad and the Spicy Noma 54 pizza to take home to a family member. The food didn't take long to come and it was delicious! I really enjoyed the Lasagna. It was presented well, was hot and bubbly, but the portion size compared to the price was poor. Once we had finished eating, we asked for to-go boxes and the check. Both came quickly. It took awhile for the server to take the payment. That was the biggest downside to my experience at Amalfi's. I would definitely go again as I hear they have live music on the weekends. I also recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyMy dining experience was an experience.
As soon as I got to Amalfi's and was seated, I noticed the tables (yes, more than one) were covered in crumbs. My party and I had to clean the table ourselves. Aside from the cleanliness of the tables, my sister ordered a drink on the app that never showed up. Yet my drink arrived in 5 minutes. After 40 minutes of waiting we asked where her drink was. We were told the drink never went through on the app even though we had proof of it being ordered. For my drink, I ordered a a Pinot Grigio. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I know a water goblet when I see one. My wine was served in a water goblet with no room for aeration. Very dissatisfied, especially since my glass was dirty! I was also informed this was a black owned restaurant, however I didn't see any black staff. As a black women, when I go to an advertised black owned restaurant I expect to see my people. As an Italian restaurant, I expect there have bread while we're waiting for food. Unfortunately that was not the case here. My party and I waited over an hour for our food to arrive, and only 4 other small parties were in the restaurant. Parties arrived after us, received their food and left before we received our food! It seemed they weren't looking at our order and didn't start cooking until we complained after waiting for an hour. And when we did get the food, it was flavorless and bland. Not made with love. I'm not a chef, but my oatmeal is more flavorful than the food served at Amalfi's. I would NOT recommend this restaurant if you value your time and enjoy a dining experience. The food was horrible. The only good thing was complimentary blueberry & lemon cake (delicious)
Be the first to ReplySo sad.
I've been a lifetime Amalfis patron. Tonight ended that. Being ushered to a table, being told tomscan the QR cose.not only for the menu but to order? Really? It's a flippin' restaurant. The prices have gone stupid high. My birthday wish was an Amalfis pizza. That wish didn't happen. Waked out. $24 for a small pie? Nope! Never again.
Be the first to ReplyBeen going downhill quality wise for years.
We decided to give this place another chance and googled to see if they still had a happy hour. They still have it up on their website but apparently it's no longer available. It's what we get for doing our research online and not calling ahead <a href="/redir?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amalfisrestaurant.com%2Fpdf%2Fhappyhour-menu.pdf&s=8483459184ecaa0cb8c1949ae9ff9a0a0bf449c2a3a32ba02569c5d156ac8e89" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">amalfisrestaurant.com/pd…</a>
Be the first to ReplyThe menu has been reduced down, my daughter's favorite item
The menu has been reduced down, my daughter's favorite item was removed from the menu, which was the pesto chicken calzone. The food did not taste as good as it has in the past, leading me to believe that they changed some of the recipes. Last, we do not like the new ordering system. Sit down at the table, look at the menu, then get up and go to the counter to order, hoping you remember what everyone wanted. We will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis place used to be amazing.
Now it's crap. The food is good but that can't make up for everything else. You have to order from your phone. The QR code is on a glass brick on the table. The glass brick was filthy disgusting. We got our salads before we even got water. The lack of service ruined the whole experience for us. We were there celebrating Valentine's Day early and it felt like we were out to a very expensive lunch. Ambiance and great service are no longer a top priority for this restaurant. Unless you like bad service at a high price I'd go somewhere else. I used to love this place, extremely disappointed!

We were pretty disappointed that an old favorite has changed so much. All of the ordering (and paying up) has gone to a digital model with a QR code. The music was perhaps popular with a younger crowd but the clientele was mostly over 50. The food was still alright, (overpriced) but we miss the warmth of the old Amalfi's.
Be the first to ReplyOur family has been coming to Amalfi's for the better part
Our family has been coming to Amalfi's for the better part of 50 years. This place WAS a Portland landmark! What was once a quaint, rustic, charming Italian Trattoria now looks more like a Vegas lounge. Too much neon, -- no Italian!!!!! What once employed servers and bartenders that appeared well trained, well groomed and professional, now has a staff, with one exception, that appeared confused, under trained, and, frankly, not that happy to be there. The menu is smaller, which I do understand, but when you offer only two white wines, don't be out of one of them on a Friday night... and... if you do run out, explain to your customers that they could go to the Mercato and purchase a bottle of the varietal they wanted in the first place and pay a corking fee which would be much less than the overly priced second choice bottle of white wine they settled for from the menu. The house wine carafe used to be a great deal... good wine at a good price! Now it's ridiculously expensive for a low end, overly fruity Chianti, at best. The pizza was good but overly salty, not great, the salads were good and large enough to split. There used to be a line out the door to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night. I was able to get a reservation for a large party on a Friday night at prime time just the day before! (That should have been a clue.) I know people say change is a good thing, but sometimes you shouldn't mess with perfection... unlikely we'll be returning, we can get that type of service, quality of food and lack of ambiance much closer to home. My two stars are for our dinner server, he was great and seemed happy to be there, and for our salads. So sad.

These guys still get a 5 star review from but I must say I believe there real specialty is their pizza. The dishes are at best average. They could totally succeed just as an Italian pizza house.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful ambience and atmosphere.
Great cozy bar experience. The food is exquisite, their market is unique with Italian specialties. I hate the meatballs & mozzarella along with their cheese bread! Bellissimo!
Be the first to ReplyI was very disappointed that all ordering is now done
I was very disappointed that all ordering is now done online in the restaurant. The food was good but I felt like I had to do the work to get an order in. I won't be back.
