Excellent night out on Saturday night!
Went there for birthday dinner. The food was excellet in presentation and taste. Especially the spaghetti and tiramisu. The service was five stars. Very helpful in explaining the menu. The price is a bit on the high side but some dish had a bigger than standard portion for this kind of restaurant. You get what you paid for in term of food, service and presentation overall. Will definitely on the list for next time.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice and well worth a visit.
A very nice restaurant with excellent views. The service was attentive if sometimes a little confused eg we’d be asked if we wanted to order drinks when we had already just ordered them. The food was very good, I had the tenderloin and it was absolutely delicious. The pepper sauce nearly blew my head off but hey-ho it’s pepper sauce. One of my friends had the cod which was also apparently delicious. A little expensive but nevertheless worth it.

Our dinner here recently was not our first but just as fabulous as previous times. Service is not only exceptional, but welcoming from every one of the floor staff. The wine Somm was a delight to talk to. The food is delicious with just the right portion sizes and with a great selection to choose from. Seating is very comfortable. Our highlights this time were: the very classy Martini Trolley on arrival with some very interesting selections, Sydney Rock Oysters at their best, fluffy Focaccia, Insalata di Polpo, Vitello Tonnato, Spaghettini all’aglio, olio, peperoncino e cicala - wow! Trofie e pesto made table side is a treat for all the senses. By the time we ate all that we could barely do justice to the Cotoletta Milanese but we did our best. The mark of a great restaurant is not only all of the above but that they are there escort you out and bid a fond farewell which they did in spades. 10/10 and we look forward to our next visit. Grazie.
Be the first to ReplyGive it a miss
I regret that I didn’t look at the reviews of this restaurant before making a reservation for the dining room. Consistent with the previous reviews the food was at best average . My spaghettini with Morton Bay Bugs was a miss match. The al aglio olio was far too strong and overpowered the seafood component. Such that it was. I accept that Boxing Day could possibly mean things aren’t fresh, but I’ve never eaten such flavourless, tough bugs. The rocket salad was dressed with far too strong balsamic ie little compensating olive oil. The tiramisu I had would rate about the least appetising. I doubt that there was any mascarpone in it. The savoiradi biscuits, if there, had disintegrated. Put it this way I’ve had better $4 Tiramisu from Coles. To be fair though my sister enjoyed her risotto and thought it reasonable. Well that was until she observed the bill. Neither of us mind paying top dollar for good food. This restaurant failed on that score. I guess it relies solely on its location to attract its punters.
Be the first to ReplyTheir feeble attempt at a Tiramisu, was dropped on my lap, and that wasn’t even the worst part.
Unbelievably terrible. - Our night began at 6:30pm. We were sat in the full sun and wind. - I asked to move somewhere else, to which they said no, as there were no other tables available. I began to get sunburned and couldn’t even drink my drink, as it was so windy. - So I asked to leave. They said they’d charge me $100 per person, as a cancellation fee (intimidating and bluffing me), even though the conditions to dine in, were unsatisfactory. - They finally moved us to sit at the bar, a small table with stools and still in the sun. - The food was bland, overly salted and dull. - All the meals came at different times, so I was sat with no meal, for 30 mins, while my partner had his. - The waitress dropped my entire TIRAMISU ON MY LAP. They obviously didn’t try remedy the situation, nor cared. - One of the waiters kept staring at my rack… - And then they had the audacity to ask if we enjoyed the meal.
Be the first to ReplyVERY OVERRATED
Very disappointed in this restaurant. So overpriced and we booked at 6pm then when we got there we were told we had to finish by 8.30 as there was a group of 20 coming in and they needed our table. We had to rush eating our mains then had no time to eat desserts before we were told to go downstairs if we wanted to have a drink down there. Service in the restaurant was okay but downstairs it was really bad. All we wanted was somewhere we could go to have a drink and get some desserts and it took forever. Very overpriced and over rated. Many nicer restaurants to eat at for third of the price.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed this visit
I have been to A'Mare twice previously and both times I was impressed, however this last visit was very poor. We were in a large group and I think this was the main reason for the issues I experienced. The set menu was poles apart, some items were brilliant, others very poor. The Lobster was overcooked, rubbery and tough. The Gnocchi in my serve was basically all sauce and no Gnocchi. The dessert of Gelato was totally melted and resembled a milkshake in a bowl, I would describe it as embarrassing. Overpriced menu and inconsistent servings.

For a 2 hat Michellan restaurant at Sydney’s Crown Hotel it was very disappointing to say the least! The scallops were very dry and tasteless, the veal Milanese was fatty, blue and chewy. Service was ok but not of highest standard one would expect from a highly recommended restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyCould be better!!
We found the food quite good beside the overpriced Milanese which was too thick, greasy and not cooked enough! What made me put the low rate is the Italian maitre d'hôtel, every single time we went there and ask for wine recommendations, he always advised us the Most Expensive bottle and it's really not professional!
Be the first to ReplyDo not recommend
Ended up going to this restaurant when other places such as Woodcut is fully booked. This restaurant is not recommended due to the salty and overpriced food. Overprice is ok as long as the food is good. But it is not. It really needs to improve the food and its service. Otherwise it could be just for tourists who come to visit and stay at the Crown hotel for a couple of days. No return customers. Chatted with friends about the experience and other people who have been here do not recommend it either. Maybe that explains why it was not fully booked on a busy weekend dinner time.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, service slightly a let down
The food was expensive here but absolutely amazing. The crab and burrata entrees were so tasty, the lobster spaghetti was divine although could have been bigger, and the cotoletta was the best I have ever eaten. Tiramisu was divine. However the place is let down abit by the service- spaghetti came when still eating entrees, left with no cutlery, cleaning floors around us whilst still eating, and waiting a long time for the bill. For the kinds of prices being charged the service should be incredible.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive for what it is
Fine dining, good experience good food, better Italian restaurants in Sydney, trying hard but probably needs more time
Be the first to ReplyLunch at a’Mare - outdoor terrace
Lunch at a’Mare, Crown Sydney
Great service, food & beverage options. They have a selection of cocktails on the menu, but can do any cocktails. The outdoor area is really nice, we sat at a high table overlooking Sydney Harbour. One standout dish was certainly the tiramisu, wow.
Not what we expectzd
We wét to A’mare to have a special dinner with some friends.
At first sight everything is luxurious and well organized. But when starting to eat, everything melt down.
The taste is not here, we cannot find this italian root, food is simple and spices/ aromas are not balanced.
This would have been acceptable for a crossroad joint. We are at crown Sydney and the dish cost 60$ it is not what you expect
Over priced poor food
The Vitello Tonnato was so salty it was inedible. The egg spaghetti with a half lobster for one person cost $150.00 and consisted of four pieces of lobster, some spaghetti and a couple of tomatoes. The risotto reduced us to laughter it was such an unappealing plate of slop. The whole fish, a snapper, was reasonably presented but so overpriced. Three people chose the gelato with its various toppings - somewhat similar to Baskin and Robbins toppings but nowhere near as good. The rest of us had the tiramisu "served table side" which means they carelessly slap a spoonful on your plate from a big bowl. It was really so bad we
left no tip and will never, ever return. Please don't go.
Not worth it!
I'm happy to spend upward of $300 per person but on ly if it's worth it. A'Mare is not!
The meals are small and hideously expensive. When you're being charged $120 for a bowl of pasta, all be it with lobster in it, you expect something special and significant. It failed on both counts. The crumbed veal fillets to share were tasty but nothing special. they were definitely not worth $220 to share between two in taste or serving size. The King Fish was so tiny a serving I think they got the bait used to catch it mi9xed up with the meal. We bought bottles $150 of wine that when checked online were $42 at Dan Murphy's. I'm not against a restaurant making profit and I get doubling a price of wine but this is absolutely ridiculous.
Sitting outside in summer is uncomfortably hot with the glass roof.
The service was ok but slow.
Never again thanks!
There's much better restaurants in Barangaroo and Greater Sydney for less money and better food and service.
overly expensive and ordinary tiny meals
This restaurant substitutes for quality with excessive fake bling. With a minimum$120 spend for each person, the smallest morsels were served on excessively large plates. The food was ordinary- in fact the risotto was still crunchy, and tasteless. The kingfish, again a minuscule serving, was no more than pleasant. We all left still hungry. Incredibly disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Italian restaurant ever!!
One of the worst experience!! Terrible food & I’ll trained staff including Mgr - John Luca!
1 . lobster pasta - very salty & rubbay - looks to be frozen old.
2. Pesto pasta - no taster no flavour no salt!!
3. Veal - oil was almost dripping inedible & full of oil that’s the only flavour
4. Fish - so much overcooked that’s it’s lost it’s flavour & taste both
5. Burnt roasted potatoes!! Yes
6. Chicken- okay only dish edible
Complementary desserts - very average - worst tiramisu have ever had in a Italian restaurants!! Really
Even after strings of complaints chef Marko never bothered to visit or speak to us.
Mgr Hohn Luca says chef has no issue with the food everything is alright according to him!!
Chianti wine - ok even though sommelier was trying to promote more expensive wines!
We couldn’t believe how globetrotted & foodies were treated here.
Ambience average. Crown hadn’t responded even after 10 days of feedback.
No chance of going again & in fact cancelling booking with their other restaurants!
Waste of time & money!
A’mare has matured to a spot amongst Sydney’s best restaurants
I was so much more impressed by A’mare on my second visit (my first was a year ago, just after it had opened). The food was a little more sophisticated in its flavour combinations; the service had a little more flair. It retains the home-style Italian cooking - but it is a pretty elegant Italian home in which you are eating. A very enjoyable dinner and I will not be leaving it so long before my next visit.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t bother dining here
We’ll, it was a disaster from the moment we were seated.
The waiter that took our order was great unlike the drink waiter who was rude and it was apparent that he hated his job. He got the wrong wine and and walked off muttering something under his breath.
We the waiter at least 20 minutes for a focaccia to come out and only got 4 small tiny piece to share.
The main meal plates where laughable. With the prices they charge you would think that a main should be bigger than an entire.
Overall experience “never going back”
Hopefully this review would help others not make the same mistake we did.
