Abominable service
A great location with spectacular night time views towards Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast etc. Minimum spend of £25 per head, not a problem at all as two drinks more than covers this! We were not eating so I cannot comment on restaurant service but the bar service is in need of immediate attention. Very slow, very inattentive staff. The only time they were quick to come was when we asked for the bill, hilarious as I had just said to my husband I bet they’ll be on the ball now! I absolutely excuse the guy who was only working his first day, to be honest he was the most helpful, perhaps the others need a gentle nudge to make it all so much better.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday treat
Absolutely perfect birthday meal. A special birthday plate was a lovely touch and Hannah our waitress was wonderful. Views of London are breathtaking. The heavenly punch cocktail is delicious and the view from the toilets is definitely one of a kind.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing evening. Great food, service and a 50th birthday made very special.
We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday last Monday evening and really had a wonderful experience. I must admit that I was very apprehensive after having read so many negative reviews and did consider cancelling our booking but my goodness I am so glad I didn’t. We were a family of four and my 11 year old twins were made to feel very welcome. Their meals were delicious and children’s portions were catered for and our dishes were superb. I am coeliac and I had total trust in my dish which was adapted and delicious. Maria and Charlie you are a credit to the restaurant and we thank you so much for such wonderful service. Such a memorable special evening. We really couldn’t fault anything. The views are truly incredible. Such a great atmosphere with the lighting and music. We will definitely return again.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience
The most terrible experience! I have been to this restaurant many times because friends and family visiting me in London are always keen to dine in the Shard. I have not had a worse experience than this weekend! I took friends visiting me from Jersey and this was their first experience in a 5* restaurant. Firstly we were sat at the back, so there was no view to enjoy, which kind of ruins the reason for dining at the shard. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water for the table which never arrived. We then ordered our “brunch” selection from the menu, being told that we could not chose the Breakfast options because it was no longer breakfast time. As a vegetarian this left me with one choice from the starter and main options. So I chose the soup for entree and then Gnocchi with what was meant to be a mushroom ragout. Both were very unimpressive, not much flavour at all. I ate the soup, but really could not be bothered with the gnocchi because of it’s lack of flavour. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked what was wrong with my meal, I explained that there was nothing wrong with the dish - I just didn’t like it. He then said he would speak to the chef, I asked him not to because it was not the chef’s fault that I did not enjoy the dish. He then took the meal away and said he would speak to the restaurant manager. He then came back and said that they will do something for me, but if I did not like the dish I should have said something, as there were other vegetarian options? I said there was only one choice on the menu and so I had no other choice. He said they could have made a ravioli dish or offered something else??? I had mentioned to the waitress at the start of the meal that I would have to have the only vegetarian options available on the menu and she did not offer any alternatives? We then sat at our table for about 30 minutes after the main dishes were taken away waiting for our dessert. The same waiter approached and asked if we would like our bill? We said that we were still waiting for our dessert course. They finally arrived about 10 mins later, I had ordered the Cheese. The waiter serving the desserts held the plate high so we could not see what was on the plate as he asked who had ordered the (blah, blah, blah) none of us understood what he said and asked for him to repeat what he had said. With a very rude tone he then said “the cheese, who ordered the cheese - it is called (again I did not understand what he said), it is what the French called it and you know that the French think they know everything”. One of my friends dining with me is Parisienne. I was mortified! He was just so rude. The whole experience was just awful, I was so embarrassed at the negative attitude of the first waiter to the fact that I did not like the Gnocchi, then the rude attitude of the second waiter just capped off a truly terrible experience.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent. Peter Pan afternoon tea. The Shard
The Shard A wonderful experience Delicious Amazing seats with lovely view. Victor our waiter was marvellous thanks
Be the first to ReplyDinner for 30th
We went to celebrate my partners 30th with her family and the whole experience was incredible. Louis, our waiter was on top form and made us feel super comfortable with a good element of light hearted humor! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to celebrate something!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service, fab food, stunning view
Fantastic birthday treat for teenage daughter. Great service from Luis, brilliant food and fabulous views. Really special dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful view, sophisticated food
We enjoyed soooo much the wonderful view of London! Very beautiful restaurant, very friendly personal and sophisticated food. The restrooms are also an attraction worthy to pay for :-) especially for the gentlemen. It”s not cheap, but I would rather pay to seat and have a wonderful moment there, than to pay just for the Shard view experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch
We had a very enjoyable cocktail followed by an excellent 3 course lunch. Prices were a little steep but not so bad for the setting and the service. the views were FABULOUS, despite the grey skies and the snow. Our table for both the preprandial cocktails and then the lunch afforded two different panoramas. We will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointed
On arrival (last Saturday night) we were seated at a table 2nd row back from window and the sun was shining in our eyes (7.30pm) we asked if the blinds could be pulled down as they were on the other windows to be told the blind was broken, we were moved to another table at the back of the restaurant and within the next half an hour, we counted 10 other couples who were seated at our original table and they also asked to move ... we both had the angus steak £53 each with carrots £7 and mashed potato £7 so £60 each for a steak dinner - the mashed potato was luke warm but we were so hungry we just got on with it .... after a few mouthfuls of my steak I was so disappointed, the taste was lovely but the steak itself was difficult to cut and very very chewy, I did not even finish my steak ... my husbands steak was not as bad but for £53 i was expecting far better ... we were so disappointed with the surroundings (someone else commented it was like being in a school dinner hall) people were dressed very casually (unlike us who had made an effort) and it was very noisy. We decided against having sweets so our total bill was £152 for 2 steak meals and 2 gin and tonics !! The bill came with a £24 service charge which we told the waitress we would not be paying and we explained why (see above) she made no apology but simply looked aghast that we were not paying the service charge, she then went over to get the card machine stopping to speak to a man in a suit who then looked over at us and made us feel very uncomfortable ! The evening was paid for by our daughters as a treat and we are absolutely gutted that £152 was in our opinion totally over the top with not even particularly nice food .... I would not return to the Aqua Shard, we would have been better off going to the street market they found round the corner where they had a fantastic steak and chips for £12.99 !! Gutted is an understatement.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed to say the least.
Starters were good. Very small portion of fish and my sirloin at a £4 premium had gristle going completely through the middle. Look at the photo at what I left. Roast potatoes were like boiled potatoes popped into a frying pan to cover them in oil. Broccoli was warm but uncooked. I ate the carrots which were still undercooked. The best was the gravy. The Yorkshire Pudding was very large and impressive, but cooked very much in advance. The brownie was anything but a brownie. Tastied alright, but goodness knows what it was. The cheese had been stood out in a heated place so the upper surface was hard. The toasty crackers were inedible as they were so incredibly hard. A birthday treat which went incredibly wrong. Such a disappoint. We will not be recommending it. Not cheap and so much better for far less elsewhere. The views were fine, but our table was the furthest away. Nothing went well for us on the day.
Be the first to Replyreally nice food, high price tag
i know you get what you pay for but i think it is over priced still. the food was really nice and well presented and the service was good. it is very dark though (i think so you can see out better and see the views) but just be prepared, it's even dark in the toilets!
Be the first to ReplyLove it highly recommended
Amazing view . Can’t wait to visit again . It was organise and a big surprise from My girlfriend .everyone needs to visit when the weather is nice.
Be the first to ReplyAfternoon tea for 3
We went as a group of 3 friends for afternoon tea, all was going well until our desserts came out and we only were only served 2 of each pudding instead of 3. When paying for 3 afternoon tea at £52 per person you expect one of each item. We had to ask our server twice if we could have a 3rd tinker bell cookie twice only for her to go round to the other side of the bar and avoid us. It was only after the manager coming over to us to offer us water that we actually got the 3rd tinker bell biscuit although we didn’t get the other lot of the 3rd persons desserts. Good afternoon tea for two people but not so much 3 people.
Be the first to ReplyA special experience
Took my Great Niece for her first ever afternoon tea. It’s the views you’re paying for. Although the Peter Pan tea offers a big wow effect. The sandwiches weren’t to her taste so they brought plain ham and cheese. We could also box up the cake to take away. It was busy so service wasn’t prompt. But this led to free drinks and we also were able to sit after we’d eaten and look at the views with a complimentary Bellini cocktail. My wife forgot her wallet which they found and kept and she said the view at night when she popped up to collect was out of this world! A word on the dress code as I’d read lots of reviews about this - I emailed in advance and it was clear smart trainers, tailored shorts, converse all fine. I had a plain t shirt, shorts and black trainers. They relax the code for children.

Walked in for lunchtime celebration drinks. Waitress not able to balance tray on hand and tipped coffee all over table. It splashed over our clothes and hot liquid burnt leg of one of our party. Accidents happen but no proactive response from staff. Had to ask to be moved to another table and for cool pack to treat leg burn. To add to our discomfort a rude older male waiter clearly took a dislike to us for no reason. His grand finale was to slap our bill on the table as he was walking past. Complained to manager who was efficient and offered complimentary drinks. Accidents happen but rude staff unacceptable. Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Be the first to ReplyBreakfast brunch
Lovely breakfast at the shard for my mums 60th birthday celebrations. Staff were friendly however was often difficult to get attention when needed and waited some time to order. Food was delicious and couldn’t fault it. Would’ve been a nice touch to have a window seat or small gesture due to special occasion as I let them know at time of booking it was a big birthday. Other than that would recommend for a nice treat if visiting London.
Be the first to ReplyA Delightful Experience
This was a birthday gift from my daughters to my wife and it was for Afternoon Tea for 2. The menu was Peter Pan themed which added to the fun. The food was well presented but there could have a bit more of it. The service was impeccable with great attention to detail paid by Lucas our server. A most delightful visit and experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat views, good food, well worth the visit
We visited twice, once for lunch which was good and later for a dinner which was better. For dinner, we took our son and his friend (aged 20) and they loved the views, the sophisticated atmosphere, and the food. I'm sure it made it onto their Instagram stories. The focus is definitely on the view so we weren't expecting Michelin starred food but the food was quite good. A fun place to visit when in London.
Be the first to ReplyPeter Pan and Sports Shoes!
Recently visited the Aqua Shard for the Peter Pan Afternoon Tea. It was a treat for our children and a Belated 20 Year Anniversary for us.
Whilst the views were fabulous, as was the experience in general, unfortunately we couldn't recommend for anyone else to do the same unless you were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the double your money vouchers applicable for April only. As we had booked some months in advance, we couldn't take advantage of this.
Our excitement was wonderful as we scaled the floors in under 15 seconds being greeted at the doorway then descending down one small flight of stairs to then be shown to our table, close to the window. Our initial disappointment came however when we looked around the restaurant to see a number of adults and children wearing sports shoes and 'joggies'. Whilst normally this wouldn't occur to mind, it was specifically in our confirmation email to not have any sport attire, which was confirmed by numerous reviews we'd read such as this. Therefore we had dually went and spent considerable money and time finding shoes, in particular for our children, that would fit the requirements. We were tourists in London and sports/comfortable shoes that are our children's norm was our way of living from morning till evening as our intention was on seeing the sights!
We then found that we could manoeuvre around the restaurant and staff were kind enough to take family pictures.
The waitress was very nice and aimed to sell the delights that were presented to us on the boat. However, as we were forced to have a vegetarian option due to the fact that sandwiches must be pre made, our sandwiches did not come with the writing on. We had initially been asked to state allergies/preferences when booking and we'd crossed off Red Meat, Fish and Nuts. The day before we arrived, we received a call asking our preference again, which we reiterated. We were then told we must all take a vegetarian option as we couldn't have just chicken as the bacon is through it and cannot be removed (make a sandwich without the bacon... we're paying a fortune)? We found this odd but complied with the statement, which was reiterated on arrival. Strangely though, their vegetarian option came with 'the bird' sandwich which has egg and cucumber?! Didn't bother us as we'd eat chicken, but would bother an actual vegetarian!
The sandwiches, which are classed as a starter, were 2 bits of bread with the crusts cut off divided into 3. The mushroom and aubergine were a delicious sides though.
We must add at this point, we got the children the mocktails which were detailed on the menu as £6.50. We'd have liked the adult cocktail but it had a £16 price tag attached! We found out after we left that the cock/mocktails were part of the tea although they were the only thing on the menu with an additional price, and understandably cocktails are not normally included on afternoon tea therefore it was a reasonable deduction to make as this hadn't been explained to us.
The cakes were 2 bite size cakes, 1 jam and biscuit, 2 mini scones with jam each. All delicious for an adult but children, not so much. 1 boat does two people, £104 per boat £4 of which goes to charity - 4 people, 2 boats.
All in all an enjoyable experience, but certainly not worth the money. There's also an automatic 12.5% Service charge added, which to be honest, we don't mind as the staff clearly work hard, but it would be nice to make the tip decision for ourselves!
What a view! Nice place
Nice bar and restaurant.
Aperitif was fine, with a spectacular view.
Staff people are very kind but very “junior”, at the restaurant in specific possibly you wish to have someone more experinced to help. Never the less the kindness of the staff make you forget any small mistake or delay.
As main course I had lamb absolutely amazing. The rest of the sonner was ok.
Location and view are quite stunning, although the enviroment is quite noisy, I would not go there for a special occasion.
Best waiter ever
We arrived and were late, the hostess was sure to let us know we were late, rude about it, and wrote it on our ticket, told the girl who took us to our table to tell the waiter, and told us we would be kicked out at a certain time on a Tuesday night because they were super super busy. However, our waiter Emilian Bogdan Ozon was the best waiter and super nice about the table situation. He was super kind, friendly, patient and was just amazing. He provided really good drink and food suggestions. He definitely provided the best service in this trip to London. Highly recommend asking for him as server if it's possible. The food was excellent. We were never kicked out as it wasn't really that busy on a Tuesday night. I would give 5 stars if it weren't for the super rude hostess.
Be the first to ReplyGreat bar for a celebration
Another lovely evening here, celebrating a friends birthday, cocktails were great if not slightly overpriced (but location location location), staff all very attentive. We’ll be back.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding
Simply outstanding experience. The views were extraordinary, service amazing and the food and overall experience was memorable. It was pricy, but worth every penny. Wonderful
Be the first to ReplyView is amazing. Service is not.
We waited very long for our food. It‘s ok because we enjoyed the food so much. When our food came, the sides were cold. I immediately told the waitress, she was annoyed but wormed it up for me. The food was already served and we did not have a knife for the meat. After 5 minutes we had the chance to ask again. The food was already cold. When we let the waitress know she snapped at me. Very bad service. But the view is great and the food was tasty.
