**4.5 Stars** Well, now I know why it's so hard to get a reservation here! From the unique decor and inventive cocktails, through the entrees and dessert, our dining experience at Armitage Alehouse was one of the most memorable of 2024! AA really does give the vibe of a hip British pub mixed with a speakeasy. In fact, it reminds me quite a bit of one of my favorite spots in Denver, Williams & Graham, which has a similar vibe with just as inventive a menu and kitschy a design. The menu has enough variety for everyone, but also doesn't stray too far from the concept. And everything is done very well. The 100 Year Old Cigar cocktail was excellent, kind of like a smokey rum old fashioned, executed extremely well with perfect balance. It's a cocktail that's good for all seasons, and I can see why it's been a staple (along with just about all of the menu) since day one. The charred naan with green chutney yogurt rivaled the best naan at our favorite Indian restaurants around the city, chewy and delicious in the best ways. The same could be said of the tikka masala, just layers and layers of exciting flavors and spices, pretty perfect. I was actually struggling with what to pick for my main, as there's a bunch of good choices. For reference, I am a pescatarian and almost never eat red meat, sticking to a salmon/tofu sort of protein diet for dinner at home (occasionally I'll get chicken when we're out). So, despite the intrigue of the two available pot pies, I was indecisive due to some dishes being similar to what I eat at home. The veggie patty burger looked enticing, but $26 for a non-house made burger (the Wagyu certainly is, but why am I forced to pay that price for a veggie patty) seemed absurd. I went with the prime rib sandwich, a play on a cheesesteak with jus, and my god am I glad I did. It was excellent, from the butter and toast on the bread to the perfectly sliced and tender beef. Light additions of peppers and a spread balanced it out perfectly - as someone who indulges in something like that once a year at most, it already has me thinking about when we can get there next. Outstanding. Talk about outstanding, I'm not sure there's a better dessert in Chicago than that sticky date cake. A great portion with a healthy scoop of ice cream, toppings, and that incredible toffee sauce - we will definitely be back just for this and a late night cocktail. So, why not 5 stars? Well, as briefly mentioned above, the prices are pretty high, which is to be expected. The quality is there, but there are limited options for non meat eaters (why not a veggie pot pie?!). And sandwiches don't come with fries, they're an extra $10, and while they're good, that's a lot. Also, while the inside is fun and funky and wonderful, it is unbelievably cramped. You'll use all your former industry vocabulary (Corner! Behind!) just trying to navigate from the front door to the bathroom, there are servers and staff everywhere and it's kind of a miracle there weren't any collisions. That said, the staff is super knowledgeable and attentive, and the food truly rivals anywhere else in the city. An excellent, excellent experience top to bottom.
What a lovely and old-school British pub.
We walked in at opening on a weekend and got seated right away. The interior is very charming with a touch of nostalgia. The food had various standouts and highlights. The Chicory Mango & Paneer salad was a refreshing start to the meal. The steak & anchovy tartare was amazing, blending tasty steak pieces with a kick of fish flavor. The steak pot pie was rich with a flaky crust, and the highlight was the bone marrow stuffed in the middle. The fish & chips were also outstanding. Note that the pot pies are served on a rotating schedule: the staple options available most days are steak & chicken, while duck & oxtail are rarer to come by. All in all, it was a hearty meal in a very cozy setting.
Drinks, food, and service were all top tier and I loved
Drinks, food, and service were all top tier and I loved every bit of it. I've never had a better burger and black cod in my life. The hundred year old cigar cocktail was amazing and I wish it would have lasted longer. Even the naan tasted like it was freshly baked. The decorations and dim lighting made for a fun atmosphere for a great conversation with friends. One of my favorite restaurants in the world.

Finally visited Armitage Alehouse after trying to secure a reservation for what feels like ever. My friend and I went with a 4:30 pm to get in the door, and it was a great choice! The ambiance is fantastic, although the room is quite dark so I'd recommend bringing your readers or using a phone flashlight if you struggle in dark restaurants. Our waitress was prompt, friendly, and provided us really great recommendations, which is the mark of a top notch server to me. The food was delicious. Everything we got was so good, including the charred naan and lamb samosa starters. Cannot recommend enough!

Pre-meal: Notoriously difficult reservation to get.
We walked right in and got a table outside on July 4 at 5:00 pm. Street parking is not difficult. Room: Outside tables are nice and nothing fancy. Inside is where all the personality is though. It's a British pub - very dark and Britishy. Did I say dark? It oozes dark ... like a Guinness. Picture-taking: I bet inside is challenging but outside is no problem. Beverages: Lots of good choices including some for teetotalers. Menu: Pub favorites including pot pies and curry. There is a lot to choose from. There are starters, a few salads, some fish and steak. They are known for their bone marrow enhanced pot pies and usually feature 2 types each day - today was heritage chicken or steak & ale. Oh and there's dessert. Food: Generally very good. Steak tartare was paired with crusty bread, a cured egg yolk and anchovy mayonnaise - delicious. The aforementioned chicken pot pie was a visual delight with a chunky marrow bone sticking out of it like a chimney. It was tasty - dare I say there was too much chicken? The chicken to sauce ratio seemed off. My peppercorn steak frites was overcooked but still pretty good. The shoestring fries were excellent. Our other mains were very good including shrimp curry tikka masala, pike fish & chips, and mussels. The side dishes are expensive ($13 for broccoli!) so we settled on some dal which was nice. For dessert we had sticky date cake and key lime pie. The pie was excellent - one of the best I've had. The star of the meal though was the sticky date cake - omg - it is breathtakingly good. Sweet but not too sweet. A bit of salt. Some toffee-caramel stuff. Oh so rich. Paired with brown butter ice cream and crispy streusel bits ("bits of gold") Service: Casual and attentive. Price: $$$ Value: 2.67 out of10 ( x 2/$ out of 10) Summary: Whoever said British food is no good hasn't been to this place. Save room for the sticky date cake!
Managed to snag a Friday afternoon resy on the patio!
Managed to snag a Friday afternoon resy on the patio! Ambiance was incredible. Food was so so tasty. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us an entire run down of the menu. Talked about pairings and what to bring out together. We shared most of the plates family style and had no problem with 4 hungry guys. Each of the dishes were so tasteful but I have to say that this date cake is to die for! Def grab a seat and order multiple items to share here
I'd tried to get reservations to Armitage Alehouse the last
I'd tried to get reservations to Armitage Alehouse the last couple times I visited Chicago, to no avail. My daughter and I decided to visit for lunch, and so arrived shortly after it opened. We were seated at a table in the bar area, with 2 leather wing chairs. So comfy! For lunch, my daughter selected the chicken pot pie, and I chose the fish & chips. Both were excellent! This is a stunningly beautiful restaurant, and service was excellent. Will definitely visit again!
Lived up to the hype.
We were a part of 2 and walked in on Saturday evening. We put our name down and after 20-30 min, we were seated. The meat pie - 10/10. Must have. It's savory, crispy, creamy ... all at once. The curry was a tangier than ones at Indian restaurants. The naan appetizer was a perfect balance to the tangy curry.

I had split a wagyu cheeseburger and an English style pot pie for brunch. Both were phenomenal. The pot pie was rich with flavor and cooked to perfection. The server was very knowledgeable about the food and very attentive. The bus person cleared plates fast and kept water full. Overall, a pleasurable experience.
Charming atmosphere and awesome food!
We had reservations for Sunday Brunch and they were running behind. Our server Zach G was gracious and had the manager come speak with us to apologize. They quickly turned a negative start to our gathering to the MOST enjoyable experience. We were so impressed with the quality of food and service and the overall charm of bar area that we will most definitely be back and we highly recommend this restaurant group! Definitely a must experience spot in Chicago!
Amazing Avocado Toast
Fantastic brunch. Probably the best Avocado Toast I have ever had. Pulled high with avocado and eggs on amazing thick cut sourdough bread!
Stunning restaurant
We had parked right across the street from this restaurant to do a preplanned activity in a couple hours when my friend (who’s a local here) raved about how amazing this restaurant was and that it’s so hard to get in bc it’s mostly by reservation. We decided to test our luck as walk ins and went in right when it opened and we surprisingly got it! The restaurant architecture is actually beyond stunning and the food matched the atmosphere and quality as well! Our waitress and the staff were so kind and truly helpful. We started off with the Délice de Bourgogne & Truffle Honey and ohmygod that sourdough bread was top notch along with the cheese/honey topping. For our main courses I got the chicken pot pie (which they are known for) and my friend got the trout caesar salad. 1000/10 would recommend this place to both locals and travelers!!
Well it's finally and really here.
A $30 smash burger is ridiculous even if it's wagyu beef!!!
Wonderful ambience and great food! One of my favorite date
Wonderful ambience and great food! One of my favorite date night spots. Service is always excellent, and the one thing I wouldn't miss is the sticky date cake! It's out of this world.
The food and service was great.
I don't think the price point is fair though. The ambiance is great for a date night. Really small spot. Bonus: the fire place.
Simply fantastic - the atmosphere is great and the food is
Simply fantastic - the atmosphere is great and the food is even better - the Wagyu burgers are a must - these are not your standard bar burgers - they melt in your mouth and are full of flavor - the naan bread with the sauces are great - ask for the seasoning on the naan and it is even better - I didn't see the seasoning on the menu but heard it was an option and it is great - the date cake is a great way to cap it off - it is warm, moist, and tastes fantastic
Hard to get in but worth every bit of effort
Had dinner here last week and the food, service and the atmosphere were all fantastic. We were able to try many different dishes and they were all great. Our waiter was VERY knowledgeable on the menu and maybe a bit opinionated but he took us in the right direction. We really enjoyed everything about the place. I can see why its so hard to get a reservation.
Everything that I had read about the Armitage Alehouse on
Everything that I had read about the Armitage Alehouse on Yelp turned out to be true on my first visit for lunch. The warm British pub decor, the amazing wait staff and the spectacular food and drink. The best thing about lunch is it's easier to snag a reservation and the menu is the same as dinner. As a big time fan of pot pies, I was in pot pie heaven. The duck and morel pot pie was incredible. Adding a splash of marrow on each bite made it heavenly. The Queen's Cup was an awesome gin-based cocktail. For dessert, the Salted Chocolate Mousse was rich and decadent. And my latte was huge and perfectly prepared. Can't wait to return for dinner and explore more of the menu.
This place is incredible if you can get a reservation!
This place is incredible if you can get a reservation! Sometimes you can get a table for walking but you might have to wait a few hours. The food is incredible as well as the ambiance! I got the avocado toast which has so much avocado on there! I could only eat half because it was such a good portion! The burger is also incredible!
Ambiance is warm and cozy.
Perfect for winter. We sat at the bar but next time I'm coming back for that fireplace.

I went here for my 3 year anniversary and it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the delicious food to the amazing staff and atmosphere, I would recommend this place to everyone. I tried making a reservation online 14 days ahead of time and they were completely booked, but I reached out to their email contact and they were able to book a table for 2 for us immediately with no hesitation. I would give this place 10 stars if I could, they were so helpful and the dining experience was spectacular, they even offered us complimentary rose for our special evening. Definitely get the sticky date cake!!

Finally got to grab dinner at Armitage Alehouse for a friend's bday and it did not disappoint! Such a cozy vibe for a cold February evening, I felt like I was transported to England. We started with the naan (YUM). I ordered the wagyu burger and fries for dinner and really enjoyed it. The aioli on the side is a must. But the star of the entire dinner was the sticky date cake. I was completely blown away, and my friends and I wish we had each ordered our own. Sharing was hard!! If you get anything at this place, it has to be the cake. Service was speedy and our waiter was very kind. Overall really great experience!
Cozy inside
Beautiful restaurant with great drinks and food. A bit difficult to get a reservation but worth booking. Can’t go wrong with a Pot Pie
Lovely place
Jason was an amazing server, good recommendations, good food. Atmosphere is incredible and so good to go with friends or a couple
A visit to jolly olde England.
Very popular with a great atmosphere. Feels like a vintage pub in. London. Lovely staff; interesting menu. Food good but very very expensive. We had the chicken pot pie and a wedge salad.
Outstanding unique restaurant
Outstanding unique don’t miss. It is like stepping back in time. The wallpaper is velvet to the touch. The oil paintings lining the walls are excellent. The ambiance and staff are also excellent. Food is too. We had a partially enclosed booth for 5 of us which was very special. We were lucky to get a 5:15 seat calling weeks ahead and for a Tuesday. Parking along Armitage is easy to find at that time. Good neighborhood to explore with great shops. The pot pies alternate. The beef bone in the center of the chicken pot pie was a surprise and made the pie smaller. It was very good ,however. Everything we had was excellent and more than enough. I highly recommend the smoked trout Caesar salad and share it. There is plenty. We shared two salads between 5. Naan bread and all the sides with it are a must. We felt the prices were reasonable. The staff outstanding.
Classic English pub style
We had brunch there over the weekend. We had waffle, smoked salmon platter and Benedict. We thought the food was good but we really loved the atmosphere there. It’s a classic English pub in Lincoln park and we really enjoyed the vibe. The cocktail was also tasty.
What a beautiful gem and such a lovely dining experience.
The front cozy bar space and back room with the large fireplace are both so inviting. The steak pot pie and garlic naan are musts. Perfect for a girls night out or romantic date night. I cannot wait to go back!
The steak and ale pie was delicious! Loved the ambiance too.
Try lunch if you can't get a dinner reservation.
First, can I say what a great atmosphere! Moody and dark.
.loved it! We went for drinks and dessert and they were wonderful. What was even more fabulous was our server, Kayla. She was so sweet and funny. She made our visit even more wonderful! What a great evening!

Sadly could only get an early reservation so only went for drinks and an app! Drinks were all so good, ambiance was so nostalgic and naan with whipped feta was incredible! I definitely want to come back to eat the entrees! Saw other tables with the salads which were a decent size and the tikka masala that looked incredible!
The only place I would happily wait 3.
5 hours to eat. I came with my sisters and a friend on St. Patrick's Day around 6:00pm. We didn't have a reservation and they told us there were 27 parties ahead of us. This is where most people would say 'no thanks! That's far too many!' But not us!!! We were committed. We hung out at a bar across the street and the host was always honest and responsive when we checked in. We ended up getting seated around 9:30 and it was SO worth it. The food was amazing, and the music and overall vibes were unmatched. This might be my favorite restaurant that I have been to in Chicago so far.
Food was savory and delicious.
Service was excellent, we had a reservation and sat us right away. Definitely going back. Get the pot pie!
This is a great cozy place.
My friend and I arrived at about 5 pm on a regular Saturday. The hostess was incredibly friendly and took our name, because, of course, we had no reservation, they told us in all honesty there were 12 parties ahead of us. We told her that either table or bar was acceptable. The bar seats are also assigned and there is no standing room.We went to a local dive bar to get a couple of drinks. The hostess told us we would receive a text when our table was ready.I estimate we waited for a little over an hour. We were seated at the bar and the bartender immediately welcomed us and took our order. What I loved the most is that we were never rushed. They never pushed for a second drink after we finished our first, (we did have it but at our pace) they offer, but never pushed for food. We order the tartar as an appetizer had another drink, then order our entries. Everything was delicious. In sum, we waited a lot, but it was worth it because we order our drinks and food at our pace. And no one rushed us. This is a service that is difficult to find in Chicago's restaurants as most only care about "turning the table".Yes, we stayed longer and enjoined a slow peaceful dinner, but we paid a large bill because we consumed more. Overall it is reasonably priced.
Nice food and ambiance.
My buddy hates avocado toast but we saw the excellent salmon with it and he coukdnt order fast enough. Sat at the bar and were served wuickly and comfortably.

As with all of the Hog Salt restaurants in the group - it's incredible. The atmosphere is cozy and dark but still lively. The service is so great, they are super friendly and let you take your time. For drinks, the g&t and the dirty martini were really good, strong. For food:- naan bread is a must, best I've had in so long- mashed potatoes were good but kind of average to me- fish and chips 12/10, crispy not fishy, but fresh- prime rib sandwich also a winnerGet the lava cake for dessert it's so rich but the perfect end to dinner! Will definitely be back.

I recently visited the Armitage Ale House and it was an absolute delight. The pot pies were the standout dish for me - they were perfectly cooked with a flaky, buttery crust and a hearty, flavorful filling that left me wanting more. The fish and chips were also fantastic, with a light and crispy batter and tender, succulent fish. But the real surprise was the naan - it was some of the best I've ever had, warm and pillowy with just the right amount of chewiness. I could have eaten an entire basket of it by myself! And let's not forget the amazing cocktails. The East India G&T was a particular standout - it was expertly mixed and packed a punch with the perfect balance of botanicals and gin. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients was evident in every sip.Overall, I highly recommend the Armitage Ale House to anyone in search of great food and drinks. The pot pies, fish and chips, and naan are all exceptional, and the cocktails are not to be missed. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.
The best part about Armitage Alehouse is the decor.
It's a beautiful setting. We went for lunch when it opened and it quickly filled up. We ordered 4 different things off the menu and the whipped potatoes were the best thing on the menu. All the food is very rich. Service was average. Would definitely go back but don't love it as much as I love bavettes and gilt bar.
Fantastic dinner
I loved everything about this place. It’s cozy, welcoming and friendly. We sat in two arm chairs in front of the wood fireplace. We felt like we were invited to dine in someone’s cozy living room. Our server was honest and made great recommendations. I tried some new cocktails I’ve never heard of before. The oysters were amazing. We had the ribeye, salmon ceaser and please, please, don’t pass up the date cake…..truly mind blowing. I’ll definitely be back. Highly highly recommend this place!
