I ate here with friends who live nearby.
When I asked if we could push the reservation later I was informed that the place was so small that it was impossible. Thank god I showed up on time. The place is bustling with a genial staff and happy customers. The menu is seasonal and changes constantly so nothing I describe here will probably be on the menu when you go. We shared the mortadella appetizer with crescentines (a type of Italian biscuit) and pickled vegetables. Alas, the lemon sole was sold out so our mains choices were leg of lamb with grilled lettuce and vegetables or a hanger steak beans and bagna cauda. Who cared about the sole? All in all a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and well worth the trip even if you don't live down the street in Peckham.

It's not inexpensive but worth the money. The pasta dishes are especially delicious. Good vibe, nice staff and a lot of young locals.
Be the first to ReplyVery solid Italian menu, minimal and well thought out.
It gets rammed in there though so forget about a romantic meal for two - this place is better in groups. Wine list is lush. Bit pricier than it should be for the quality but this is 2018 Peckham so whatevs.

Just to join the chorus of praise, Artusi is a polished, yet disarmingly charming, little Italian restaurant. I visited a couple of weeks back for its Sunday set menu and left wholeheartedly impressed. Choice is so stripped back in its set menu that it felt like a vanilla foray into submission. For a mere £20, I was treated to veal tonnato, a main course of cotechino with mustard-laced lentils and salad leaves, and an olive oil cake with creme fraise. Each dish was punchy and impressive. The first two courses did justice to Italian classics: the veal was rich and yet still delicate, the cotechino a happy meeting of earthiness, bite and soothing fat. The real star was the olive oil cake - an unassuming little slab, it was perfectly moist and admirably simply flavoured. All four of us ate well, and enjoyed the atmosphere enough to linger on a while after our meal. I hope to return soon.
Be the first to ReplyVery tasty and value for money food.
We had two delicious starters - artichokes in bagna cauda and crispy pigs head in apple mostarda, followed by fusilli a la puttanesca and chicken cacciatore.

I love the Italian food here. Started with the buffalo creamy cheese on toast with an olive and chilli - superb. Then pork belly, cooked perfectly with a bean side. It was really good, pork perfectly good again.Finished with cherry sorbet. Really good. The atmosphere was great, the wine was very good and I can't wait to go back again.

Amazing experience! Incredibly welcoming and speedy service (with no snobbery when it came to menu questions). Ever-changing menu with fresh, homemade pastas. Very reasonable prices and no pushy up-sells. The olive oil cake for dessert was DELICIOUS!

Lovely modern Italian that has an ever changing menu and hand made pasta. The wine list is all very natural so if this is not your thing then you may have to stick to the £5 negronis and excellent grappa which isn't so bad. I struggled a little bit with the wine list (particularly the Reds) but the food made up for all of that. At the time of our visit there was two types of pastas: walnut tagliatelle or carbonara. Both excellent and the carbonara was cheese with chunks of lardons. So delicious but glad we shared as the flavours were so intense (but in the best way possible!). We also shared some broccoli and nduja on marscapone (wow), octopus on polenta which was almost like a rage but not (double wow) and some veal tongue which converted some non offal believers. The sourdough was sooooo good and they gave us a decent amount of butter. Warning: save this bread to soak up the insanely delicious sauces. There were three mains to choose from: bavette (which is often on there), a generous serving of rare lamb with lots of veg or perfectly cooked and balanced cod on beans. Mains were big and easily shared.Staff are great, space is small but modern and its buzzing without huge amounts of noise. And, as I said at the start: £5 negronis.

We went for lunch, she had the lunch special at a bargain £12 for pasta and a glass of wine, and I had broccoli with bagna cauda and then skate with cime di rapa. It's a really nice little unpretentious restaurant on a nice street behind the main streets of Peckham and was a comfortable place to chill and eat. The broccoli with bagna cauda was tasty, perhaps a little too Anglicised verging on being an aioli but the end result was a tasty plate of food none the less. The fusilli pasta was ok, borderline of being too salty it just seemed like an ok bowl of pasta with some pesto that was over seasoned though. Skate and cime di rapa was nice elegant simple Italian cooking, with the usual notes of olive oil, lemon and fennel coming through. It was nice without being mind blowing. Perhaps I built Artusi up too much after reading many great reviews, or perhaps it was just me yearning for a long time for some nice Italian food that wasn't just pasta or pizza based, or maybe its down to the usual issue of consistency at restaurants? Having said all of that, it wasn't bad at all. It was a shame the pasta was over seasoned, but everything apart from the food was great, I love the decor. Maybe it was an off day? But even so the food was still ok and you could see the potential.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful.
High quality Italian cooking at its simple best. Small and cosy , neighbourhood restaurant. Good unobtrusive service, for example they aren't constantly trying to top up your wine or ask you if you're enjoying your food. Honestly, I just love places like this and if it was on my doorstep I'd go once a week. Please don't change the formula!
