Asador Bastian Chicago Reviews
Michelin experience in a steakhouse
Easily the best steakhouse experience I have ever had, let alone an overall restaurant. Blends what one would expect out of a steakhouse experience with service/food that you also get at Michelin starred restaurants. Had a great meal here at the end of August before the Oasis show. They had a special tasting menu going on so we didn't get the full menu experience, but what we had was also amazing. Had the best martini in my life, though didn't love the little glass! Service was attentive and helpful. Food quality and taste were 5 star. Cannot recommend highly enough for those lucky enough to secure a reservation.
This is hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to.
The ambiance is intimate and the service couldn't be better. You drink a sip of water and it's instantly refilled; you get up to use the bathroom and your napkin is reset. Our server was Earl Daley and we truly couldn't be in better hands. You are lucky if you're in his service! He's knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and all around phenomenal. He made our experience complete. He knew exactly what to recommend and everything that came out was impeccable. I couldn't recommend this place or his service more. Exceeds every expectation!

Came for hubby's birthday, The ambience and service were excellent (Christian was just wonderful)! The two standouts were the Spider Crab Arroz Cremosa (we will be coming back for this meal just alone), and the Bone Marrow Potato Purée was delectable. The drinks were delicious and incredibly well priced for such a high end establishment. I had the Sole Amandine which was delicious, but not worth $103 (I'm told they price it for the import fees from Spain), though having the best Seafood in Seattle and home town Santa Barbara, I don't think I'll be back for any of the mains. My husband had the True Galiciana which was cooked to perfection and had complex flavors and taste, but it was so incredibly chewy and the fat was almost inedible, and we are gristle loving people. The overall result was disappointing. Not a fault of the chef, perhaps just the particular type of Steak? Also incredibly expensive for just an okay cut of steak (we're assuming the import prices are involved here too)? Husband wishes he had ordered the Holstein, which we hope would have been able to boast the claim of being one of the best steak places in the world. I have family from Spain (Asturias/Oviedo/Aviles) and we will most definitely be going to check out Asador Extebarri when we visit Spain next year. I wish I had also ordered a steak so that we could have had at least a range and comparison of their signature steak options (I was just so tempted by the Sole). Not sure if we'll be back for steak again, as the prices make the gamble for having a better experience a bit higher, but we'll definitely be back for a number of their other offerings!
a great steakhouse, with a heavy focus on sourcing.
the menu is long and is best with a larger group to try as many dishes as possible. the food is simple but done well, allowing the ingredients to shine. it does get pricey though, and there are many off menu specials that the servers walk you through in painstaking detail - I can appreciate a few stories about the ingredients/sourcing, but a daily special menu card would make it a lot easier and quicker to decide on your order overall, food is very good, but only a few real standouts for our meal. started with cocktails which were ok but a touch unbalanced and for a $20 cocktail in chicago I expect perfection. For food, the highlights were the carabineros prawns ($50 each, recommended 1 per person), which were large and had great meat and flavor. The txuleta of course (we opted for galician 7 year aged beef, about 2lb for $180), which had great flavor and fat. And the spider crab arroz cremoso ($68) - creamy and delicious. oh and the artichokes which were nice and bright, a good balance for the fatty steak. The other dishes were alright - caviar churros ($16 each) - the churro is served room temp and the texture was not crisp, bone marrow pomme purée ($24) - good for a bite but extremely rich it was difficult to finish, a special corn tortellini with truffle (around $50), and dessert was a large portion and skewed sweet and we couldn't finish (the caramelized raspberry chocolate napoleon thing).

What a great experience we had for a mid week dinner! The staff is very knowledgeable about the food and wine, each dish comes with a story of where the food came from and the inspiration. We loved the restaurant, the low light vibe and very homey feeling. The dinner itself took about 3 hours and was expensive but the quality of food and service was excellent
Best steakhouse in Chicago and possibly one of the best
Best steakhouse in Chicago and possibly one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. From the moment you walk in this place is classy and cool . Everyone working there makes you feel welcomed and Important , then comes the food ... truly 10/10 ... a shoutout to the spider crab dish WOW, I look forward to @taking many business clients here in the future, you can't go wrong getting in this place !
Recently came here for my fiancés birthday.
We were a party of 6 as we were with his family. We arrived at 6:55 for our 7pm reservation. They first took us to a table that already had people at it. (Very unprofessional) They then said our table was not ready. We did not get seated until 7:30. We put a down payment on this reservation, why did we have to wait so long? They were not nice about it until I went up a third time to complain. The manager offered to bring out complimentary apps. Sadly those were not even taken off the bill at the end, we had to ask. It felt as if this was on purpose. Also, we had to ask for clean dinner plates after eating appetizers. To be at such a nice restaurant and pay so much for the food and have them "pretend to be all fancy" they did not quite have the proper etiquette down. They did not even clear dirty dishes off the table. It was kinda gross in my opinion. Our server put down one of the desserts we got and almost knocked a knife on one of our laps. Needless to say, the steaks were good. The bone marrow potato purée was excellent. However, if I am going to such an upscale and expensive restaurant I expect, food, service and ambiance to be a 10/10 and sadly that was not my experience.
Very small restaurant with selective cuts of steak.
I enjoyed the crab rice more than even the steak which was delicious! The restaurant is extremely small and intimate with attentive severs
Asador Bastian is, without a doubt, the best steakhouse in
Asador Bastian is, without a doubt, the best steakhouse in Chicago. I was in town from New York, and I'll say this confidently--it rivals (and even outshines) the best steakhouses back home. The quality of the beef, the attention to detail, the service--it's all next-level. What really stood out was how elevated and authentic the entire experience felt without ever being pretentious. Every dish was intentional, perfectly executed, and memorable. The space is stunning, the staff knows their stuff, and the flavors speak for themselves. If you're serious about steak, this is the spot. Period.
Food was incredible.
The presentation and quality were on point. Excellent service. I love this little hidden gem. We had such a good time enjoying the food. This is a spot where you really want to enjoy the experience and company over taking pictures so many pics are missing from this post. Definitely coming back.
Absolutely delicious.
I could harp on about the food all day, but the service is where this restaurant shines. Our sommelier and server were so funny and sweet. They made dining an experience- telling us how to plan and eat our meal in order for it to taste the best. Also when my boyfriend ordered a cocktail with his steak (oh boy), the sommelier insisted he had a glass of red for free! Overall amazing experience that was only made better by the wonderful food.
The 13th best steakhouse in the country
Chicago has been known for its outstanding steakhouses since the heyday of the Union Stockyards and the meatpacking industry headed by Phillip Armour, Gustavus Swift and Nelson Morris. In recent years, however, the market has become more competitive with the arrival of premium beef from Argentina, Brazil and Spain. One restaurant, Basque-inspired Asador Bastian, was named "Best New Restaurant" in 2023 and was ranked as the No. 13 steakhouse in the world in 2025 by London's Upper Cut Media House. Located at 214 West Erie Street, in a restored 1883 townhouse, at North Wells Street, in the River North neighborhood, it is the latest creation of renowned chef Doug Psaltis, who has an intimate feel and appeal to meat that is wholly distinct from any other steakhouse in Chicago. The restaurant's decor, lighting, tile and upholstery only add to the stunning atmosphere. Open daily from 4 to midnight, Asador Bastian has made a sudden and significant impact on the steak and potatoes industry in this town. I started with lobster, corn and fois gras and couldn't wait to indulge in my San Miguel Steak, a smaller cut of the classic Txuleton steak, perfect for one person to enjoy, a hand-cut bone-in steak weighing under one pound. With Tallow fried potatoes and local asparagus with black truffle, smoked cheese and lemon. For dessert, a large slice of Golden chocolate hazelnut cake had me going out the door with a big smile on my face.
Cozy setting. Great atmosphere. Nikita provided exceptional top tier service!
First time guest! I was completely blown away by the bartender Nikita. He takes the upmost pride in making cocktails. He strives to insure each and every guest leaves happy. I sat in awe while I watched him make hearts and little animals out of orange pills to garnish the cocktails. He was doing this so passionately, you could tell by his facial expressions that he truly loves his job. It truly touched me to see someone in the industry, so passionate and prideful about their profession. It was the perfect storm- his pure passion, his drive to please the guests, the taste of the cocktails, along with the actual presentation of the cocktails, was top tier. He was so personable and so professional. He really strives and takes pride in everything he does. I dine at many fine dining establishments throughout the country, and he left me in awe... Complete AWE. The dedication, the passion, the customer service, the professionalism- it was simply unmatched. There are good bartenders, but then there is Nikita.... he is on a completely different level, which would only be described as top tier.
Delicious food with excellent service
First visit and dined to celebrate a birthday. Dark dimly lit Spanish restaurant with tables close together. However, servers are attentive and make the experience unique. Our server Yousef was top notch. He really enhanced the evening. The food and drinks topped it off. Great cocktails. Great wine list and sommelier. Food was unique and delicious. Some items are small but satisfying. The wagyu was excellent. Tender flavorful and juicy. Paired perfectly with our wine. Wonderful evening celebrating a birthday. Pricey but worth it. Also discovered there a cozy booths downstairs.
Not a repeat
As someone who loves the cuisine of the Basque Country, I had high expectations for Asador Bastian, but unfortunately, it missed the mark. The food was just okay — nowhere near the flavors you’d find at even a simple bodega in San Sebastián or Bilbao. For a restaurant aiming to capture the Basque spirit, the wine selection was also disappointing; I was hoping to see more local options like Txakoli that would complement the dishes. Service could be more attentive, as it felt a bit lacking for the price point. Overall, it was overpriced for what you get. I wouldn’t return, especially when authentic Basque flavors are what you’re after.
Poor customer service, questionable business practices
Won't speak to the food but will speak to their poor customer service and questionable business practices. About six months ago we had a reservation for five to check this place out. Unfortunately, the day before our reservation one of the couple's in our party had a baby a month early and as a result were unable to attend (the baby was also in the NICU during this time). I called the restaurant explaining the situation and asked if there was anything they could do with our deposit due to the circumstances, and they agreed to refund the full amount (initially they offered to change the date of our reservation but given the uncertainty of the situation we did not want to book anything at that time). After over a week there was no sign of a refund, so I called back and explained the situation again. I was assured we would be refunded. We weren't. It's one thing to have a policy and stick to it (while frustrating given the situation it's what we agreed to), however it's another thing to promise a customer a refund (twice) and never follow through. Flash forward six months. Said couple recently got married and as a wedding present the group purchased a $300 gift card for them to finally have a chance to try this place out. When the couple went to make a reservation they were told they still had to put down a $90 deposit that would be applied to their bill and they could not use the gift card for this. Absolutely NOTHING on their website mentions this when you purchase a gift card. Who wants to give a gift that requires the recipient to pay nearly $100 of their own money to enjoy it? Awful customer service and business practices. There are plenty of amazing steak houses in Chicago - I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere.
Simply Amazing!
Excellent Steakhouse. Different than your traditional american steakhouse but the service is great and the food is even better. The steaks might be the main attraction of the restaurant but the Sardines in green salsa, Arroz cremoso, and the carabineros are on another level. Even the cocktails and wine selections are amazing.
An exceptional dining experience
This is a special restaurant - one of a kind and unique in Chicago. it is located in a beautiful townhouse in the River North neighborhood and modeled after the great asador restaurants in Spain. Chicago has numerous outstanding steakhouses but Asador Bastion stands alone due to its commitment to faithfully replicate the unique dining experience of the classic Spanish asador. The restaurant sources its meats but from craft ranchers in Spain, the US and New Zealand. The steaks, seafood and all accompanying dishes are some of the best I have ever eaten anywhere, ever. The atmosphere is sophisticated with an energetic buzz but not so loud as to disrupt conversation. Service is gracious and professional. Expensive but worth it.
Great time, definately would dine there again.
Awesome food, and awesome service! The atmosphere was lively, yet somewhat quaint. David, our server described the menu in detail and answered all questions and was checking in on us through our 3 courses. The sommelier did a perfect job of matching our taste preferences to a spanish wine, we had never heard of. Throughout the evening, our glasses were regularly topped off. Great experience.
Stellar! I can't compliment this place enough.
The ambiance and decor is gorgeous. The service, attentiveness and knowledge of our server Earl really made our dining experience spectacular. The GM was also very welcoming and kind and his rounds during the night added a special touch, letting us know that we were appreciated and making sure we were well taken care of. But the food....?!?!?! Wow! Everything was delicious! Short rib tortellini from the specials needs to be added to the regular menu. We tried the garlic prawns, hongos & huevo, sole amandine, asparagus with oxtails and the Akaushi and everything was amazing. The flavors complimented each other, but each dish had its own depth. The sole was cooked perfectly. The steak was amazing! Cooked and seasoned to perfection. The complimentary amuse bouche was a little perfect addition.
The prices do lot justify the amount of food you get.
We ordered the española with jamón ( skip the jamón, $18 1-2 oz you get), shaved root salad, galicianian steak - absolute $145, medium rare) and ibérico rice (delicious but so small amount) equaled out with alcohol was $345. I would go again but sit downstairs in the booth at the bar area. Service on par and ambiance is very romantic. This will be something where you wouldn't go on a regular basis but is good and expensive.
My husband and I were very excited to try this restaurant.
Regrettably, we were left paying $500 for an average meal (at best) and literally took our daughter to Portillos after and we came home and made smoothies. Let's start with the good. The cocktail and the Iberico jamon were delicious. The gem salad was average. We ordered the sole and Holstein steak. As steak lovers all of us were left uninspired. My daughter and I only had 2 bites and my husband ate as much as he could as not to waste the meal. The steak smelled and tasted gamey. We were told the steaks were a special cut and none tasted like a traditional USDA ribeye or similar (as we even offered to purchase another). We were then told they could make use a burger of similar cut meat to which we declined. The staff should be super transparent that the steak is not a typical flavor or USDA steaks, especially for the price. While we are upset at dropping $500 for a meal most of us didn't eat, we are glad we tried it and know now that we will not be returning.
This might be the best restaurant I have ever been to, and
This might be the best restaurant I have ever been to, and I've been to Many! The atmosphere, service, and overall, of course, the food, are amazing! I highly recommend a sherry tasting. The sommelier is amazing, patient, and answered many questions I had about the regions, parings, and more! I highly recommend Asador Bastian!
Incredible experience from start to finish.
Staff was wonderfully attentive and helpful with suggestions.
Game here solely for the cocktail.
The drink was stiff to say the least & I have a pretty high tolerance for alcohol. It also had good balance as no flavor outshined the other but it honestly didn't reflect a $30 cocktail. Staff was friendly & engaged. Patrons were dressed down & were loud/boisterous. I'm slightly curious to return for dinner but I'm in no rush.
Fantastic food.
At at bar. Bar tenders were amazing and knowledgeable. Shout out to Nelson. Best bartender in Chicago!
Underwhelming
For the price, this place was underwhelming and sloppy. Waiter seemed to want to get more money but why? It’s already super expensive. Based on the caliber they’re going for it didn’t sit right. It took about an hour from being seated to get any food. The waiter wanted us to see the raw cuts of meat and fish before we saw the menu, which took too long. We were starving. He recommended five appetizers, but appetizers are fairly large so by the time the fish came out, I was barely hungry, and by the time the steak came out, I was no longer interested. I was completely full after the appetizer portion. The truffle ravioli was absolutely delicious and I could have gone home after eating that.
First this restaurant was intimate and the ambiance was
First this restaurant was intimate and the ambiance was well suited for an anniversary dinner or special occasion. So let me start with the good. The food was excellent. The carpaccio was light and delicious with just the right amount of seasoning to put it over the top. The tortilla española was not what I expected which is fine since of course the chef would provide his own flair to the dish. However, having traveled extensively through Spain I was disappointed with this dish. Think runny egg not cooked egg or cold dish but rather a warm egg and potato dish. I would comment it was not what I expected. Our steak was the 100% akaushi (wagyu steak). It absolutely melted in your mouth but seriously steak knives were dull! I have had wagyu and yes it was buttery and amazing but we had the hardest time slicing with these knives. Definitely not what I expect from a chophouse. Here is where I ask is this a Chophouse or just a trendy Spanish restaurant? So being a lifelong Chicagoan the word Chophouse means something as there are many Steak restaurants to choose from and service is impeccable and it's about the Steak . This is where my review turns to service and it was a Saturday so while I understand slow I don't understand inconsistent. It took our waiter a while before he showed up at our table to introduce himself and provide menus. He also never gave us the drink menu which we learned later did exist but we didn't think to ask. I guess that is our fault but we don't often need to ask for menus of any sort and since clearly liquor is always a cash cow. We were seated and probably 10 minutes later a 4 top was seated to the left of us. Their server came over right away got their drinks and asked them if he could explain the menu all before our waiter even came back to take our order and explain the menu so we watched which really made our service feel mediocre. He returned with drinks for them and a steak board that highlights the various steaks and preparation etc. He explained everything to them and was very on top of his table in a good way. Well not for us. So our waiter acknowledged we were there celebrating our anniversary but sadly that was all he ever said and we never felt like we got even consistent service comparatively and it was hard not to notice. There was nothing done to acknowledge our special occasion or anything. We basically waited and just ordered drinks we wanted and upon our waiter's return we thought okay we have now had menus a while he may stop and explain some things but nope. We basically had to ask if he could explain portion sizes etc since steaks here are listed by pound and not ounces which is customary. He never brought out the steak tray and rushed through the explanation. It just felt like he only stopped by to get things moving not to provide any help or suggestions. Eventually even a newly seated table to the right of us also had to ask him to provide an explanation and advice on the menu. In the end we had empty drinks but he never noticed, thank gosh we ordered our wine with our dinner since we were not sure how often he would come back. We sat a while after we finished our meal and based on his timing we opted to skip dessert. So we enjoyed the meal and packed up and left to have dessert and drinks somewhere else. All this to say consistency matters and if you are a steak restaurant then yes show the steak board and try to have staff provide consistent service since we had wished for the waiter that was taking care of the 4-top and felt like our letting the restaurant know it was our anniversary really didn't matter. We enjoyed the meal but felt our inconsistent service lead to a less enjoyable anniversary meal.
The combination of the extraordinary food, magnificent
The combination of the extraordinary food, magnificent service, and stunning ambiance made this arguably the best dining experience of my life. I would specifically ask to sit at one of the booths in the bar, the dining room is beautiful but the bar booths offer a much more intimate experience. We had Yousof as our server and he was amazing! We had never been to a Spanish restaurant so we were unfamiliar with most the dishes and wines. We really had to rely on Yousof's explanation and his recommendations and let me tell you- he was spot on with everything! We were blown away by every dish and the wine pairings were perfect, Yousof even brought us a couple samples of different Spanish style wines that we had never tried before. For food we ordered the tortilla espanola with jamon (don't skip out on adding the jamon, it was well worth it!), garlic prawns, braised beef cheek tortellini, galaciana steak, and tallow fried potatoes. It felt like after each course came out we had a new favorite! Truly have 0 complaints, we will 100% be back and make sure to ask for Yousof! We really felt like he made the experience so much more enjoyable
My coworkers and I had a dinner here.
From the outside, you would never find this restaurant unless you knew it was here. No signage beside the small sign in front of the door and the door looks like an entrance to a persons nice home. When you walk in, it's got a very nice decor. you walk upstairs into the upscale restaurant. The service is top-notch, and the food was excellent. Everything was so tasty and made just right. They changed the plating and the utensils to make sure everything was clean after every course. We had a seven course meal with dessert steak shrimp, fish, salad, sardines, caviar, cheesecake dessert, etc. We also had recommended bottles of wine from the Somalia. We kept it off with espresso martinis. Everything was better than expected. We spent about $250 per person which was worth the experience.
The Basque know how to cook and eat and this place
The Basque know how to cook and eat and this place definitely lives up to that tradition. The restaurant is cozy and warm, the service is spot on. The food? Wow. The star of the show is the steak. They serve "aged on the hoof" beef sourced from boutique ranches. The meat is cooked over coal fire and the result is truly one of the best steaks I've ever had. In this steak town, that's saying a lot!
Not your everyday steakhouse
Bringing Spanish influence, it gives a much different vibe to your typical American steakhouse. Set in a townhouse converted into a restaurant, it's unsuspecting & easy to miss as you drive by. The dining room is small and intimate, and the food is fantastic. Great spot for a date night or a celebration. The only negative comment was the noticeably slow service. The steak was perfectly cooked and everything else was delicious. Steak is served by the cut of choice and weight desired, and the wine list was extensive, but pricey.
Good, but not great.
Good experience, overall, but this place can be much better if they want to truly go for providing experiences that are something more than "good." Our experience was not exceptional. It was just, good. We went to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a little something special at a new restaurant to us. (Spoiler alert) If you answer their reservation questions about what you're celebrating, don't expect that they will do anything special for you. We received a "Happy Anniversary" comment when our server presented our bill. That was it. We went in with high hopes of a bit more personalized service. The service was good but not great. We also heard so much about how great the streaks are. We shared some really nice appetizers (razor clams and sardines) and a very nice bottle of wine. The fish course, sole, was very nice, too. The much more pricey steak, on the other hand, was chewy and not silky smooth as the menu suggests. Lots of weight for the price in gristle and bone. Go for the fish! Good .... but, definitely not exceptional for the nearly $700 price tag for two. We will likely try again, but will go in a little wiser than for our first try.
Great and tasty meal.
Great in every way, from the minute you check in till you leave . Very welcoming, great food and ambiance. The fish was amazing as fresh as you can get. They fly it from Barcelona daily. Appetizers and deserts are great too. You will have a really nice time.
Bring the Amex
Cool spot. Way too pricey for a regular stop. Wine list too pedestrian. Steak was good, definitely not 1.25#. Bottles of wine are$65 and $165.... $500 for dinner and drinks for 2 .
Great celebration place
Food was excellent. We all enjoyed everything that was served. The preparation of the Turbot was unique. the steak was amazing. Preparation really let the meat shine and the taste come through. Sides were different, interesting and added to the overall meal. Service was impeccable. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in ordering the right amounts and items. Vide was comfortable and relaxed. Can't believe that they can get so much and such high quality from a small kitchen. Bravo - can't wait to find an occasion to return.
Would not recommend
The Spanish omelette and fish were poorly prepared, the Basque cheesecake was dry, and the sommelier had limited wine knowledge. The service was slow and inattentive, and no staff members had experience with Spanish or Basque culture. The overall experience was disappointing and not worth revisiting.
Got steak and other items.
Looking for a cool new spot? The bar downstairs is fabulous. Dining room is cramped. Forced to listen to 2 other conversations. Prices are not for the faint at heart. Steak is good, but I questioned the sizing. Wine list is $60-0r $600. At least you have a choice. Spent $500 all in for 2 . Solid place if you want to impress. Otherwise, there are many others to enjoy a great steak. Too many team members falling over each other. As you well know, we are Chicago, the capital of great beef.
A delicious evening
Steve and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Asador Bastian. It has a very basic decor, but the numerous well trained servers bring the atmosphere to life. Our waiter Mathew was a fabulous ambassador. We kept to a Spanish food profile and enjoyed the chef’s light touch. Admittedly, we chose the most unique items, so the bill was as extravagant as the meal, but worth it. The specialty steak was the most flavorful we have ever tasted. The Spanish wine paring perfection! An after dinner sherry is a must. We had a reservation upstairs, which quickly filled to capacity. After our meal, our host invited us to see the private chefs table in the back. We also checked out the bar area downstairs where the various cuts of meat are on display in a room far in the back. Currently, downstairs is for walk in diners. That may change as the popularity increases because of the private booths across from the lengthy bar area. We enjoyed our evening and plan on returning again.
Basque-influenced steak house
Asador Bastian has been open about two weeks in a beautifully renovated 1880's townhouse in Chicago's River North. The restaurant is on two floors. You go down a few steps below street grade to enter and, beyond the host desk, is a wood-paneled bar with a few leather-upholstered cozy booths. Up a flight of stairs is the intimate dining room with about 35 seats. The appetizers skew Spanish, then there are a few fish and seafood options, followed by the main event: different cuts of steak from a choice of 5 breeds of cattle, all cooked on a parilla. Unlike most Chicago steak places, no sauces are on offer. Side dishes are extra, as is the custom. There's a good and fairly extensive wines list, heavy on Spanish offerings. For two people, we ordered the churros with Kaluga caviar, an adorable pair of small, crisp churros stuffed with creme fraiche and chive, topped with a teaspoon of the aforementioned caviar. A splendid starter at $28. We followed this with an anchovy salad, their take on a Caesar salad. It was also delicious and large enough to share. We followed it with a shared Galiciana steak, a bone-in 22 oz. cut of meat served rare (surprisingly, they did not ask how we wanted it) and sliced. It is from older cattle than is customarily served in the U.S., so the meat is gamier, but well marbled and somewhat chewy as the beast is well-muscled. We accompanied it with a dish of 5 grilled artichoke halves that were excellent; I wish there had been a couple more. For dessert, we had a choice of four. We selected a raspberry "mil hojas" which was a take on a mille feuille, several layers of thin pastry separated by whipped cream and chocolate ganache. It was dusted with freeze-dried and ground raspberry which imparted an intense fruit flavor. Delicious and crunchy. We skipped coffee; only espresso is on offer. Service was smooth, friendly and knowledgeable. My only negative comment is that even for a steakhouse, I thought it was very expensive.
