3.5 stars. We decided to give this place a go even though I wasn't keen on the set brunch menu. It seemed weird to have eggs as a starter and then eggs again for a main (there are other options). The egg Benedict starter is yummy (I wish I could have had this as my main) and the hache burger was also good. The food was plenty that I felt full. The service was excellent. The ambiance is loud with lots of hen do's (there is an unlimited prosecco offer) and a DJ playing loud music.
Be the first to ReplyLet's start by being realistic about the dining out
Let's start by being realistic about the dining out environment here in the UK and back in the States. If you are expecting the dining world of old you are not being realistic about the constraints that the foodservice industry is facing. Take for example here at Aster, they have a great dining area that they can not utilize due to staffing constraints. What a shame for the owners and the staff that could be working in that space. If you are one of those who think the world is as it was you need a dose of reality. So here we are in London, with no reservation, and we have 1.5 hrs. before our play starts. Aster was busy and we asked to sit at the bar because we knew a place for two on Theater Nite would be a hard request. I wish I had the name of the gentleman that helped us with our being able to sit at the bar. No one else was there and the bar tender was very busy. We were over whelmed with hospitality as every encounter we had with the staff was pleasant. The bar tender (Vicenza) (please excuse the spelling if it is wrong) He was a great host! and the gentle man that seated us told us to "keep an eye on him" as a tongue in cheek comment. If we did not have a play to attend we could have sat there all night as the atmosphere and staff made for a great dining experience. What a gem of a place!!!The food was great and our drinks were as we ordered. We will be back with or without a play to attend. Thank you to all that made our evening very special to us and we hope that your staffing issues come to an end. At no time did we lack service and or attention.

Last time was a quick stop before a play, this time we dined here on purpose to see if it was as good as we remembered. It was! Excellent food well prepared, and very friendly attentive service. But, the best part were the pre-dinner cocktails. These people obviously care about the product they are producing. The cocktails we enjoyed were inspired and beautifully presented. As for dinner, delicious! We went for the tomahawk as it had been a while since we've enjoyed a good steak. This was executed perfectly! Of course, no dinner is complete without dessert....so we shared the gluten free chocolate cake....yep, basically a version of flourless chocolate cake. I'm not a cake person, but this was very chocolatey. We'll be back for a third time when we return to London!
Be the first to ReplyWell its rather a strange place.
..met a friend for an early light supper (table booked for 5pm) on Thursday...arrived quite early, so they showed me to a table in the cafe area and I ordered Earl Grey. Very pleasant. Quite a few people in the main area and in the cafe partWhen my friend arrived, they said we couldn't go to our table yet - not because it was occupied, but because it was too early and it wasn't allowed yet...it was 4:58??? So we sat down again and then immediately got up and were shown to the table,...there were plenty of people at other tables all eating...no, me neither???Anyway, to start with they were trying to get us to choose our food but that finally stopped as we said not yet for about the 4th time, while we had a drink Then they suddenly upped the music...it was not full, so the music was just noisy...they turned it down a couple of notchesWe ordered the salmon and the endive & Stilton salad - they were excellent...maybe a little pricey but not exceptionally soAll in all, the wine, food & coffee were good, the staff were very friendly and helpful...even the music was fine in the endWould definitely return

Pleasant décor and ambience, especially in the second-floor restaurant. Friendly staff, albeit not terribly pro-active. The food is good, although nothing to scream about - 'Scandinavian without the direct-from-farm ingredients'! Prices are a bit on the high side given the quality, but the set lunch represents good value, and they do have reasonably-priced wine too. More a 3-and-a-half-star restaurant than a 4-star one.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful bar/ restaurant.
We ate here before going to Victoria theater to see Hamilton. After lots of rich food in London, the mixed salad was perfection: fresh herbs, vegetables and beautiful greens. The scallop starter was also wonderful. Suggestion: staff should be better trained concerning the cheese plate options. Our server did not know if the selections were cow or sheep etc. A few glitches in service that are typical of a new concept but the kitchen is pushing out amazing food and the setting is beautiful- and it is a great choice if you are seeing Hamilton (and you should!).
Be the first to ReplyGreat setting and environment.
The food was delicate too. However, the waiters could have been more attentive.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, slightly let down by mediocre service.
The matching wines offer was interesting but unfortunately quite mean on its servings.

The aura of the restaurant is very expensive, but don't let that fool you. You really get what you pay for, and I was served the best under £20 steak I've ever had. Asked for it "rare, preferably bleu", and they really delivered. Beautiful, buttery meat that was cooked (uncooked?) to perfection. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyI visited Aster for afternoon tea, just to try something
I visited Aster for afternoon tea, just to try something different, and brought along someone for their first tea experience. Everything was absolutely fantastic - the restaurant is impeccably well-designed, the service is wonderful and friendly (sometimes a rarity in London), food was both beautifully presented and some of the most delicious I have had in London (especially the sweets!), the theming of regional influence and ingredients were wonderful, i love the dedicated vegetarian menu, and the price was completely reasonable. I don't say this often, but it was a 10/10 experience (OK, maybe I questioned some of the DJs musical choices and volume, and I was a little intrigued about seeing staff busy on laptops for some reason) and i will be back for more tea and other meals. To the management: thank you for the attention paid to detail and ensuring we had a great experience. I really appreciate the details and consideration put into the service, as well as details like the newsletter at reception and the excellent staff uniforms (Yes, i was *that* guest)!
Be the first to ReplyI liked the place.
Great decor inside and fantastic service. Food was a bit unexpected. I was told it was Scandinavian and French but it was not. .Scan hints with all the smoked herring for sure. We has a bunch of appetisers. ..smoked herring with prawns on lettuce was fantastic plus some charcuterie which was nice...others were picked out for us so I wasn't sure what I was eating but enjoyed all that I tried. My lunch was easy ..a cheese burger and fries. The burger was cooked a bit too much for me but it was tasty..the fries were ok as well..creme brulee for dessert was great. I enjoyed my meal. Downfall..music was a bit too loud. DJ on site at noon...
