Quite expensive but the food was good.
It's a nice and quaint restaurant in Paris! I would recommend it to someone if it is their first time in Paris. :)
Be the first to ReplyI've been there three times.
Consistently great basque cuisine. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Love the wood pigeon entree. Mushroom fricassee was outstanding. ย Don't skip the Mille Feuille for desert.

This place was recommended to us by a friend, and it did not disappoint. We made reservations for 7:45pm on a Tuesday night. They open right at 7:45 so we were the first ones there. It's a small restaurant, but they seemed to fit a good amount of people in there. By 8:30pm, the restaurant was packed. All of the menu items are written on chalkboards that they carry around from table to table. Like previous reviews mentioned, the menu is in French. Be sure to ask for recommendations from the waiters or use Google translate to translate the menu.I ordered the Boudin Noir, which is a type of pork/sausage that you can only get in France. It was a very tender meat and extremely savory. It was well balanced with the mashed potatoes it was served with. The mashed potatoes were also done really well. It was super soft and fluffy. My wife ordered the grilled cod and veggies. She loves fish and was not disappointed by this. The service could have been a little better in my opinion. We were here for over 2 hours and the waitstaff were not as kind as we were expecting. All in all, the food was phenomenal and the price wasn't bad at all. I would definitely return to try other items on their menu.

I've been here twice on two separate visits to Paris and it never fails to disappoint. The food is cooked perfectly, the kitchen is somewhat open and the menu is constantly changing! Loved the cream of asparagus soup with goat cheese and herbs, something about the mix of hot soup and cold goat cheese was perfect! I also highly recommend the Mille feuille cake buttery and flaky layers with vanilla custard. Mmmm!
Be the first to ReplyAu Bascou offers up French fare with a Basque twist.
Treating myself to a full course dinner, I started out with the escargots with jamรณn, and then continued with the duck with polenta and mushrooms before finally finishing with a French cheese with cherry jam for dessert. I washed it all down with a glass of French red wine, and everything was delicious. Woohoo! As good as it gets!

I'm not sure why this restaurant was virtually empty when we dined here last night. The food was very, very good and the service was friendly. The menu is only in French but the waiter translated everything for us. I had the veal and potato dish and would go back again for it. I audibly sighed with happiness after the first bite. It was a great mix of warm, homey flavors and very tender meat. Ugh I want some more right now!! My husband enjoyed the pork and mustard polenta dish. His words: 'the polenta is the star of this dish'. He said it all worked so well together. Even the dessert was memorable! A apple and plum tart with a lovely bit of vanilla ice cream. So good. It's just weird that there was only one other party dining here on a Friday night! (we started our meal at 8 and ended by 9:15) I'm assuming/hoping it was because there was a world cup game on and people chose to eat at a place with a TV.This chef is clearly very talented, and I would recommend Au Bascou to anyone in the area.Ps if it matters, the bathroom is completely mosaic from the top to bottom. So pretty!

We have returned here for many visits and have never had less than a stellar meal or service. I will let the photos speak to you as the food did to us.

After coming here from a recommendation from a local, we were not disappointed! The restaurant is small and cozy, and the food is definitely a step away from the beaten tourist path. We shared the seafood linguini and the veal, and both were delicious! The molten chocolate cake was to die for! Definitely go here if you're looking for something low key and authentic and local!

Had the pleasure of eating at Au Bascou my last night in Paris. I was amazed firstly by how friendly the staff were; splitting dishes into half-portions for those who wanted a taste of everything. Secondly, the food was just fantastic. Regional restaurants in Paris seem to be on the decline, but Au Bascou did not disappoint. I've never been exposed to Basque country, but what I ate at Au Bascou was honestly life changing. For my "entree" (appetizer), I had the crevettes (shrimp). The were sautรฉed in vanilla oil, and came with baby spinach and a beautiful carrot puree. My favorite dish was my main plate, the lamb confit. The lamb was wrapped in a crisp puff pastry - just sooooo good! I shed a tear once it was all finished. The Veal Axoa was another popular dish at my table--its a Basque classic with braised veal and potato. Finally, for desert I had the mille feuille ร la vanille. All in all, a great night! Loved the cozy atmosphere, warm staff, and fine cuisine. Will definitely come back if I'm ever in town!

Be the first to ReplyI called Wednesday and booked a reservation for Friday.
When we arrived, we were told there was no reservation and no tables available. We have eaten here several times before but will never return.
