🤢 2/5 - My husband and I thought we'd give Enza a try, since we had

My husband and I thought we'd give Enza a try, since we had stopped in once at the bar and had a couple of great cocktails with appetizers. This place is centrally located right in the heart of Harvard Square, surrounded by many five and four-star restaurants, so our expectations were high. We were excited and ready to relax, order a bottle of wine and enjoy the service. We had a reservation for 5 PM, and were the first people in the door at the restaurant, and the only people aside from one or two other tables. The stand out for us unfortunately wasn't the food, but the fact that the service was poor. Right from the start the server wasn't helpful with any questions about the menu, except for saying things like "oh, it's SO good, you'll love it." No details about the food or what was in it. They didn't really know the menu- which for a restaurant with appetizers and first plates starting at $30 is unacceptable. Part of the experience is interacting with the server who is representing the menu and providing the experience for the guest. Enza needs to pay more attention to their service protocols. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine, and the prime rib, which is meant for two people. We love trying new restaurants and wanted to try some other items on the menu, and ordered the mushroom appetizer, but as the entree was big, we asked if we could split shrimp scampi as our primi piatti. The server actually clucked their tongue and just replied with "oh no, we can't do that." Without blinking they refused our request, didn't even offer to check with the chef. Her attitude indicated right away that we weren't going to have the kind of service that we would expect eating in a fine dining restaurant. We looked around and said there's no one here, can you please ask the chef if you would mind splitting it? They simply replied "I'll ask, but he never does that. It messes up his presentation." they never got back to us, and we did not get our scampi. Regardless of whether or not the server was able to accommodate our request, the answer was just so lacking in any kind of service that we were bowled over and just did our best to enjoy the meal, interacting a little as possible. I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here if your expectations for the service to be on par from any of the other restaurants in the area. Regarding the food, it wasn't spectacular. The mushroom appetizer was drenched in vinegar. We weren't served any bread to go with the mushrooms. When I asked for bread, the server again just said "oh, we don't provide bread. Do you want some?" The prime rib was as we would've expected. The chimichurri (? - some kind of parsley pesto) was also too vinegary/ acidic, and we scraped it off the steak. The best thing about the meal was the wine. The cherry pannacotta was also delicious.Unfortunately, another lasting memory is how the server kept stopping by the table and saying "Everything good?" "Everything good?" We aren't paying $160 per person for "Everything good?" We were paying for excellent food and a good experience.
