Amazing secret place .
Service is marvelous. Food is uniquely delicious Italian. Creative imaginative and a step back in time .
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here after our matinee.
The ambiance is great. Old school fine dining. Sat outdoors since it was 4:30pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Lovely outdoor space. Service was attentive. They only had the Theatre Price Fixx menu in effect. Choice of an appetizer, a main and a dessert, coffee and salad included, for $63 per person. I started with the buffalo mozzarella, had the charcoal grilled swordfish as my main, and had the orange chocolate mousse as my dessert (with a decafe cappuccino). All were fresh and delicious. (My only quibble is that I thought both the appetizer and the main could have been larger). The bill, with drinks (I had three Peroni's) tax and a generous tip came to $125 per person. Will definitely return after our next matinee.

Eduardo was a treat to meet and added personality and character to the evening. The food was great and reasonably priced. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyMy first experience there was horrible.
And it was my birthday! Where to start...well, when we were seated, we notice an ant crawling n our utensils. The busboy changed them for us and apologized. The waiter that came to take our order was sneezing and coughing over my husband. The just found it strange that as soon as he came by us, that happened. Before he came and after he left us and all the rest of the night, he did not sneeze. Then after we got our appetizer, he kept coming over hovering over my husband and his food asking how is the food, etc. Hubby was so turned off. Afraid some of his spit flew in his soup. Then when it was time to order our main course, the menu was so confusing and wounded up getting something completely different than what we thought we ordered. So instead of calling over the waiter for fear of him talking to us so close, we just decided to eat it. We did not like it. So between him and the busboy, we could not eat in peace. He was worrying about why I am not eating something and the busboy constantly asking if we were finished with this or with that. What I will say was nice was the fact our waiter brought over some Crรจme Brulรฉe with a candle and sung happy birthday to me. But after that, we saw another ant crawling on our table. Needless to say, we took one bite of the desserts, which was not good by the way, and left.

Located in the Theatre District, Barbetta is a timeless, classy, & historic establishment serving top - notch dining. Food - 9/10, the unlimited warm rolls were to die for, the food is delectable. However, we were unaware that the dinner menu is prix-fixed & many items we wanted to try were not on that menu. Drinks - 10/10...the wine variety is extensive Service - 10/10 - white gloved with attention to detail, definition of "fine dining" Atmosphere - classy, yet a homely warm feeling, as if you're having Sunday dinner at a wealthy relative's home Parking - located next to numerous trains and buses - would not recommend trying to find parking here Vegan friendly - Yes They also play happy birthday on the piano which is such a nice touch.

Barbetta is located in the heart of the theatre district with a staff who respects your need to be at the theatre on time. Great food. I love the menu detail which shows when that item was added to the menu. Yes, the minestrone soup has been on the menu for decades... and with good reason!
Be the first to ReplyFood was fine.
Nothing wrong with it, but nothing blew my mind. Went for restaurant week, so I suppose it was a decent deal. I got the salmon, which was cooked nicely and served with crisp seasoned picked cucumbers and sauce. The pesto linguini was a little dry and too Al dente for my taste. Resulting in a heavy, dry feeling after I ate it. I was full for hours afterward from the whole meal. Pear dessert cooked in a red wine sauce was a pleasant little something different than the usual, but I wished it was a little warm, as I imagined a poached fruit type dessert cooked in a nice sauce, so I thought it would be warm. Overall, a good meal. Ambiance was old and dated, with an older dining crowd as well.

We came here after seeing a show since it was close by and I was deceived by the website. There was only a Prix fixe menu and we were told the ala cart menu isn't available until after 8pm. We decided to stay and try the menu. The food was just acceptable. Nothing great. Mozzarella and tomato is plain. Not even a balsamic drizzle. I had the roasted vegetable soup (the best part of the meal). My companion had the salmon which was good mostly because of the cucumber herb purรฉe under it. I had chicken and fennel. The chicken was thin and dry with no real seasoning. The fennel wasn't worth eating as it had no flavor. The salad was just base greens with vinaigrette. Not even a tomato in sight. Dessert was the best part. I wouldn't bother coming here again. The staff was very attentive and friendly so they earned this place another star or I would have done 2 stars.

Beautiful interior and clearly a restaurant with lots of history. Service was good as well. However 3 stars since the food was okay and did not justify the price tag. I got the gnocchi which I felt was a bit stickier than I would have liked. Overall, felt that the food was overpriced for what it was.
Be the first to ReplyBarbetta is my favorite restaurant in NYC.
Great food , a theatre district location and a tradition dating back to 1906 make Barbetta a perfect place to dine before a show or celebrate a special occasion. Private dining rooms on the second level offer an alternative to the first floor dining room.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a wonderful family dinner here prior to Christmas.
The service was outstanding we loved Eduardo he was so friendly and prompt. We ordered off the main menu and especially enjoyed the Lamb, the Gnocchi, the Fantasy Salad was delicious as well as the roasted vegetable soup. We enjoyed the pasta pesto (I am not sure it was on the menu but they can make it!). Beautiful setting for a family holiday dinner!

Dine elsewhere for a better dining experience in the theater district. No where on the restaurant website does it indicate a limited menu before theater showtimes. We arrived for a 5 pm reservation and we're handed a pre-theater menu. It consisted of a full course meal from entree to dessert at $63 per person plus $7-$10 extra attached to some of the entrees. Apparently many customers were unaware of the limited menu because with each sitting came the verbal announcement by the waiter of the pre theater menu. The entree options were extremely limited. An Italian staple of risotto was not even an option on this limited menu. I ordered the chunk crab dinner that came with a $10 extra charge. It was tasteless. My wife ordered a pasta with marinara sauce. The sauce tasted like ketchup with basil added to it.The restaurant is negligent by not posting a notice of the limited menu on its website. Quality of food is lacking too. Go elsewhere for a better dining experience.

My best meal of the year! I tried the three-course meal from restaurant week at this place and it was just perfect, well almost. The food was great and I was so glad that I chose the beef steak - it was actually so different from a regular steak as it was cooked so tenderly with plenty of sauce. The back yard garden is also very pretty to relax in a summer evening in the city. The only regret was, it's bit crowded in the garden. Well, I can't complain about it as almost every table ordered from the restaurant week menu. Yeah, it's the summer special offered by our city!

Absolutely outstanding: service, ambiance, and fantastic cuisine! This is our favorite restaurant in midtown Manhattan!
Be the first to ReplyVery very disappointed as I was really looking forward to
Very very disappointed as I was really looking forward to our visit. The one star is for the ambience - the only positive.Food was bland and not worth the value. The wine was very cheap despite us paying top $$$.Service was mediocre. The courses were not brought in the order that you would expect. We felt rushed. We had brought our family to celebrate a milestone and this was such a damper to an otherwise beautful day.The only thing that was going for the restaurant was the garden and we were able to sit outside as the weather was gorgeous. In all, Barbetta didn't live up to its expectation and hype.
Be the first to ReplyI echo Melissa G's comments of 3 moths ago.
Just ate there before heading to a play and also had the company of Eduardo, and he by himself made the dinner experience as enjoyable as possible! Very impressive restaurant with quite the history. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I went to Barbetta this past Saturday.
We love the northern Italian food here. This is our third time, and each time has been excellent. The gnocchi is sublime! My rabbit was excellent! And the service is wonderful--these servers are professionals who've been doing this for decades. You hardly find professionals like this anymore. Finally, I love the decor. It takes me back to an earlier time. Two of the three times we've eaten here, we've been in the rear garden. If the weather is nice, the garden is a must. The main dining room is also fabulous. I know I'm repeating myself, but this restaurant is a MUST.

Impressive patio, dates interior, and overall mediocre probably would pass a 2nd time around
Be the first to ReplyI treated my friend for her birthday during restaurant week
I treated my friend for her birthday during restaurant week and we both ordered from the restaurant week menu. This was $45.00 each for an appetizer, entree and dessert. We both had two glasses of wine which jacked up the total price. With that said, the impeccable service, ambiance and quality do the food is apparent from this over 100 year culinary institution. You really like you are in an old school Italian villa. They have a beautiful backyard to dine in or a fancy dining room. I highly recommend Barbettas. And I forgot how much I missed the Hells Kitchen area.
Be the first to ReplyLet's start with some positive.
The restaurant is beautiful and the presentation of the food is lovely. The staff however is snotty. Coat check tries to shame you for not checking and then asks you not to hang over the back of your chair (every other table had coats on the back of chairs). ย The waiter seems miffed when we only wanted water. ย The gentleman who brought us bread (20 min later) was actually WONDERFUL the only bright point of our service experience. Dinner took a while and was presented beautifully. I ordered the chicken (house specialty) and it was dry and burned. No one asked how the food was so I did not get a chance to provide feedback. My desert was yummy but did not make up for all the negatives. It's their loss as I was researching places to host an event. Major let down
Be the first to ReplyWe went to Barbetta for a pre show dinner on Friday night.
You see the opulence of the place as soon as you enter which also has an old world charm. We were promptly escorted to check our coats and seated at our tables. We arrived at 6:15 PM and all the tables were occupied. We opted for the restaurant week menu with a glass of wine to be paired with it. The service was impeccable, the water in our glasses never ran out and the breads kept coming. The food was delicious and so were their desserts. They have an outdoor seating area which is opened seasonally. ย Would recommend this place for a special night out in the city.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant change the tip to 25 dollars.
And we went there for restaurant week's menu which is 29 per person, but the bill is 50 per person (with no details) . Don't go to this place!
Be the first to ReplyFood is basic.
Nothing special. Forced to coat check- which means you're forced to pay for that service . They removed the restaurant week menu that they said they participated in online (so shady). Got spoiled milk with my coffee and no apology from the rude wait staff, just a replacement milk and coffee. Two stars is for decor.
Be the first to ReplyLet me just start with the positive aspects.
It's what I remember when I was taken here in 1972.Elegant, the old charm reminds me of the of the 5 star hotels I worked for the Regency in the 80's, the Plaza Athena & the Ritz Carlton. It's a preFix for $63 & everything you order is extra. I order to start the whole wheat pasta In Ragu meat sauce. Frankly, it tasted as if the sauce was burned. The second plate I ordered the Salmon medium rare it came as I requested in some kind of cold green sauce & sliced thin cucumber not up to standards. The desert the pistachio lemon tart was delicious. I had an expresso & 2 Prosecco's. I had to ask for water twice not because the waiters or bus boys weren't attentive I found the maitre a bald gentlemen very inattentive & was reprimanding some of his staff in front of guest. If he only knew that they were doing a great job communicating with me, asking me how I was enjoying my meal contrary to his egotistical attitude. I left a 20% tip, $5.00 for coat check gal who I also found to have an attitude not friendly. Never bothered to ask how I enjoyed my meal. One other gal did but didn't really wait for a respond seemed pre- occupied.I'm use to eating in 5 star restaurants like IL Mulinos's an institution, Fresco ย by Scotto, or Scalini Fedeli but after all these years I don't believe I'll go again. It's become very commercial / tourist, sorry to say. Sono cosรฌ deluso
