This is as superb Spanish modern-criative food can get!
This is as superb Spanish modern-criative food can get! Upon entering the beautiful Bardal restaurant and being greeted by the team - including Chef Benito Gomez, we knew this was going to be epic. And it was every bit of it. The restaurant provides a respite from the bustling town that Ronda is, and so a quiet and incredibly well trained team were a welcome find. The ambiance signals this will be a formal meal, with creative and out-of-the-box tastings. We are set to focus on food, its ingredients, its preparation - this is serious business for Chef Gomez and it should be for his guests as well. Each dish was concocted from everything that is superb in Spanish cuisine, but elevated just a bit more to our delight. Every course challenged us to try something different - and we could not be happier for such an adventure. The selection of wines was equally impressive and sommelier was a pleasure to have around. This was an experience that will be with us forever. Bravo Chef Gomez and team!
Be the first to ReplyI cannot express how fantastic this dining experience was.
We reserved for the smaller tasting but once we got there, we asked if we could expand it to the full tasting with wine pairing and then added the cheese cart at the end as well. I can't even begin to describe everything because it was otherworldly. The wine pairing was absolutely amazing. If you are in Ronda you absolutely must do this if you are a foodie and Love a high end dining experience. We will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI think we ordered the large menu.
Everyone was very kind. They introduced each meal before starting. The flavors were definitely present. Not a huge fan of the mushroom dish but everything went uphill from there. Seafood dishes really had that sea breeze taste. My favorite was probably the apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Their sheep milk butter was so soft and surprisingly mild. They came out with chocolates and bonbons at the end and I was already beyond stuffed.Service is very good. Their crumb removing tool is better than any I've seen in the states. There were about 3-4 tables in each room and it was a very relaxed setting. Dinner lasted about 2.5-3 hours. I probably wouldn't go with the large menu and wine pairings because that's just overkill. They have a cool coffee and tea cart (and a cheese cart but the tea one is cooler) that they roll out at the end.

Did we go to the same Bardal as everyone else?! A full 5* on Tripadvisor with reviews calling this the best restaurant in Spain / ever, two Michelin stars... for this to be such a disappointment that we spent the entire meal composing our zero star review. A meal where you would regret not finishing every bite, then even more deeply regret having tasted it.Out of an 18-course lunch tasting menu, only one dish was passably good ("cock crest and bearnaise sauce" - a tartare atop a crisp). Most of the dishes were either far too salty or far too sour; this was not really resolved even after mentioning to the waiter (proactively -- not once did the waiters request feedback on if we liked the food. This is a basic standard of good service in any Michelin-quality restaurant). Not a single dish possessed the sophistication or complexity one would hope for from such a pricey meal; the eggplant was eggplant, the fish was fish. At this price point, to be boring would be disappointing but not unacceptable if the technique was strong, but some dishes were simply bad. There was no rhyme or reason in flavor or texture: the combination of tomatoes and mint with the Albacora tuna, for example, seemed simply decorative, with no synergy achieved between the components of the dish. The sea anemone was unpleasantly bitter, and I will never ever recover from the disgust I felt eating fried baby goat brain -- which tasted exactly like one would expect a brain to taste, in the worst way possible. Never has veganism seemed more appealing. The presentation is undeniably beautiful and artful, but especially since Ronda is a day / half day trip for most tourists, you don't want to waste a single minute here. We're genuinely perplexed at Bardal's positive reception. Perhaps one of the most expensive and unpleasant meals we've endured.Dined: September 11, 2022

Very good ambiance and the staff is among the best be experienced around the world - courteous, to the point, always there at the right time and highly polite.
Be the first to ReplyBardal made our trip to Ronda such a special treat.
We opted for the wine pairing with our tasting menu and we were so glad we did. We aren't much of wine connoisseurs, but each wine was unique and enjoyable. We found that the alcohol content was quite high or our tolerance was quite low, because a few glasses in we were full of laughs. As for the food, the presentation is like no other here. They find such beautiful was to hide each course. All the courses are small, but full of such flavor and surprisingly still leaves you extremely full. Our notable courses were: smoked eel creamy bread - this puff filled with such flavorful umami, corn soup with roasted avocado- the vanilla being such a surprisingly welcome touch, and the husband was fond of the duck tartare. Every bit of seafood was so delicate and the creamiest of textures despite being fully cooked. For a Michelin experience, the price point is not unattainable. We were extremely happy with the value and experience from Bardal.

Wow, how does an amazing Michelin star restaurant not have any reviews??This place was fantastic! My boyfriend and I came here for our three year anniversary and got the "Great Bardal" menu ($100 per person, ~20 courses). My boyfriend also got the $50 wine pairing. (They also have a smaller menu for $85 per person).Every single course was delicious! Each one more creative than the last. They explained each of the items to us and answered any questions we had. The whole meal took about 3 hours and it was all around phenomenal. While each of the courses are small, we left completely stuffed!Such a great experience, highly recommended!!
