THIEVES OPERATING AT BARRAFINA - BEWARE!
I visited Barrafina on 21 February 2023, sat on a barstool at the end of bar with a friend and put my small black backpack at my feet at 8pm. There is no other place to keep a small backpack so all customers are required to this. As we got up to leave at 9.30pm, i noticed my backpack wasn't there. We then found another old backpack that had been left behind which somebody used in case they were challenged on stealing mine. The restaurant have confirmed that they have no duty to protect their customers possessions and that professional thieves operate on their premises. Their CCTV is completely useless as well and they do not control or check thieves operating in the restaurant. I can't believe that a Michelin starred restaurant is willing to allow thieves to steal its customers possessions and not act in any way. The MD of all Barrafina restaurants confirmed that its customers can't expect protection against theft on their premises and must rely on their own insurance. They also said that this is the same for all Harts Group restaurants so do no visit Quo Vadis, El Pastor, Parillan, The Drop or Bar Daskal as they won't protect customers from theft on those premises either. And to top it all off........the food has gone really badly downhill as well.
Be the first to ReplyVery good spanish cooking
A very good spanish cooking. Pimenton del padron, pan con tomate, fish fried and a lot more. Good taste.
Be the first to ReplyWhat has happened to Barrafina?
We have been frequent customers of Barrafina for many years - one of our favourite places. The menu is restricted post Covid, but when we went at the weekend there was no ‘specials’ menu to supplement it. The service was not charming and efficient, as is usual, and I only recognised one staff member from our previous visit a few weeks before. When paying the bill our server demanded a tip, repeatedly and forcefully, even though a service charge is already included. I had noticed earlier that neighbouring diners were being told there was no change available, if paying cash, and wondered why this was? Disappointing…..
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but cheeky upsell attempt on wine
I came here with my nephew who has spent more than a year in Spain (plus my brother and one of nephew's friends) as I understood the food to be the most authentic Spanish in London. This restaurant is bar stool only, so give it a wide berth if you're traditional and prefer tables. We were choosing wine when our server said I'll give you two to try. We were looking at the lower end of the wine list (this place is not cheap). He brought two different wines, asked which we prefer. we both chose the same one, lo and behold that one was £79 per bottle over the other which was under £40. Needless to say that pee'd me off no end and I told him so, plus chose the cheaper one. After that rocky start, we got stuck into the food and enjoyed everything. Special mention for the ham croquetas and chicken thighs. Overall bill was £255 for 4 people with two of the aforementioned bottles of Vina Zorzal. Incidentally on the menu I see that wine was £38 per bottle in December when we went yet is now £44. A few other things on the menu are now more expensive, I guess that's inflation for you.
Be the first to ReplyVery rude!
Extremely rude and unhelpful staff. We’ve booked a table for 3 and a friend joined us making our part y 4. Unfortunately the waiting staff did not let our friend to join us, stand next to us or even just stand by the bar. Bear in mind that this restaurant doesn’t have any tables. Instead, it has high bar chairs so our friend could just stand between us with no issues. Sadly, he was sent out. Won’t be returning or recommending.
Be the first to Replyanother great meal
warm welcome, lovely staff, busy and vibrant ambience (if a bit smokey near the grill) some stand out dishes : the plain tortilla (wow), bacalau croquettes, mushrooms with egg yolk, padron peppers (yep, tons of salt but hmmm). Everything was at least good, freshly prepared and overall very enjoyable. prices a little on the high side but that's 2023 ...
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food , great atmosphere, warm service
Just really good. I ate one of the best things I ever ate in my life - the cuttlefish fritters. These were iconic. I can’t remember eating something g so distinctively good since the chicken and goats cheese mousse with olives when Rowleigh Leigh was the chef at Kensington Place over twenty years ago. The bread with tomato was exceptionally good, and I loved the arroz negro. Not sure the sherry was needed in the sirloin but it was still excellent. The staff were really friendly. Cracking atmosphere . Just awesome.
Be the first to ReplySuperb tapas - the freshest of ingredients - at a price
We visited Barrafina Adelaide Street for the first time in a long time, attracted by their email offering a Menu del Dia for two for 40 pounds. While the quality of the food was superb, as always, we were disappointed that this 'offer' was any kind of 'special deal' and in fact I think if you'd ordered the three items in the set off the a la carte menu, you would be paying around the same. Nor was it really enough to be a full meal for two so we ended up paying 80 quid after extra dishes. Of course everything was terrific but the 'Menu del Dia' is not great.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
Food was great and it can be better if I spoke Spanish All manus are in Spanish and I had to ask the waiter to translate. Both recommendations came back to be really good and I loved the food. The space is not huge and there are many people working. Somehow it is slow to get the waiter attention. But they are friendly.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely Top Notch
The entire experience of this incredible very authentic Spanish Tapas bar is outstanding from when you entire. The service is 5*, Joanna, Coral, Dorota and the entire team are superb as is Douglas and the chefs. The cuisine itself is another level, everything is delicious! Sitting at a bar dining whilst watching your dishes being prepared is wonderful. This is an absolute piece of heaven, full of love and soul. A foodies paradise!
Be the first to ReplyStandards have slipped; poor choice and food
This was one of our favourite restaurants before Covid lock down. And it now offers bookings which is much more convenient to turning up and hoping for a counter seat. Being at the counter is in our view the best experience for watching both people and all the cooking action going on ahead of you. Alas, our visit with a friend on May 6th was not good. The menu was much less expansive and the food was often cool, bland and just no where near their previous standard. My wife also spent part of the night being sick; I assume related but of course I can’t say for sure. All on all we won’t be rushing back. A shame as it has been a favourite over the past few years. Not sure what has changed, but it was not a good culinary experience.
Be the first to Reply;lost its sparkle now just average
Have been a huge fan of adelaide st since it opened but last visit gone downhill; obvious problems with staff harmony, time restriction not good and no longerwalk-in but booking software not foolproof; fewer dish choices, dishes not as well executed and now too expensive. Lost its sparkle Will think hard before visiting again

We had the most lovely dinner at Barrifina, truly stunning. Each and every dish was utterly delightful; it was so apparent that the chefs take such pride in the quality of their food. I can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyBreathtaking
I literally told my mother to be silent so I could enjoy the taste to the fullest. The service was great as well. Try it for sure!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
Rather cramped interior and uncomfortable seating on fixed bar stools to the floor.
Great view of the kitchen similar to a chefs table.
Ordered 6 dishes:
3 fantastic: tortilla with prawn, monk fish, tuna carpaccio,
3 Average; the padron and the Patatas brava and the pan con tomato.
The negatives are the seating and the small portions.
Positive: amazing tortilla - best I’ve had and the great fish dishes.
A lovely lunch
We called in for a light lunch yesterday. We ordered hake (delicious), prawns (a bit over cooked due to a chef telling a younger chef to put them back in the pan for longer - they didn’t need it!), artichokes (wonderful), baby gem lettuce with bacon and anchovies (good, but sharp dressing). We washed this down with a carafe of their cheapest white wine (no piping paying more - £24, very nice). We shared a cheesecake (lovely and light). I’ve taken a point off for the overcooked prawns and the fact they don’t serve tea. I was told ‘it’s a Spanish restaurant’. I replied that we’re in England and in Spain you can buy tea in restaurants and they have tea shops!!! Overall Barrafina is good, but they need to attend to detail.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Spanish tapas - as good as it gets
After trying several tapas restaurants, Barrafina is surely the cream of the crop. Not the most extensive menu (but a lot of specials) and you will pay a pretty penny. Having said that, everything is tip top quality. The prawns, for example, tasted so incredibly fresh. Would certainly recommend this for the quality of the food. The one negative, I felt, was that as there were four of us, they put us on a table downstairs - and that just isn't the same experience as dining at the counter upstairs. You certainly feel a bit ignored down there and that detracts from the visit.
Be the first to ReplyA Treat.
We always go to Barrafina Dean Street when we go to London, and our evening there this time was spoiled by queueing for over an hour behind an incredibly loud and annoying man who gave the impression that he was on drugs. So a good job that we were booked into Adelaide Street the following night with no queueing involved, and a charming Irishman sat next to us. The kitchen was run brilliantly by the chef who was kindly guiding his kitchen staff, being encouraging, not intimidating. We had John Dory and hake specials, chipirones (tiny fried squids), jamon iberico de belota, and one of their divine individual tortillas. If you like Spanish food this place is like heaven.
Be the first to Replyby far the best restaurant
Barrafina was by far the best restaurant i’ve been to in london. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. It was relaxed in the best way possible, the food came out quickly but not in a rushed manner. Everything we ate was delicious, the tortilla was perfectly cooked, runny in the middle but still firm. The prawns and tuna were exceptional. We tried lots of little dishes, all were worth the money and exceeded our expectations. We finished with a cheesecake special and a delicious cheese board. The cheese was ridiculously delicious, we later found out it was rated the best cheese of year. The puddings ended our night on a complete high. If you want to choose anywhere to go, go to Barrafina for an amazing evening with brilliant service with amazing food.
Be the first to ReplyThe pandemic is over!
It is thrilling to report that one can once again pay a small fortune for really average food in central London. Barrafina has been around for a while and was, in its infancy, a great place to take a date and enjoy some decent Span-ish food for reasonable money. Hence the queues out of the door. On this night it was pre-booked by tourists whose guide books had told them to go there, and 20-somethings with more cash than sense. Dining a la Ramsey circa 2007.
So having weathered the Covid storm while so many small restaurants have drowned, Barrafina is now able to relax and cash in. A dinner of £8 croquettes (x2, fine), £10 tortilla (absurdly undercooked), £8 pimientos (small, no live bullets), £18 (!) for 2 x chicken thighs in a cloying Romesco sauce, £32(!!) for a block of tepid sirloin in a bloody jus, and £12 for a salad of lettuce, anchovies and pancetta (actually ok, still bloody expensive), plus 4 x small beers and 4 x glasses of red = £160 pounds sterling.
Tapas used to be served free in Spain along with each drink, and get progressively better with each round. Tapas should be fresh, quick, tasty and cheap. This is not tapas. It is slow, overwrought, under-flavoured and ludicrously expensive food, a menu of meh with the occasional hit.
But hoorah and hurrah - the pandemic is ending, and this is the proof. Time for all the young chefs to start sharpening their knives, tie on those aprons and pile in to the metropolis again. Carve up the old guard and let's see what the end of WFH brings to the table, venga!!
Delicious tapas
Went with friends who had been to other Barrafina restaurants. We all enjoyed the food which I would rate as excellent. Service could have been better, bit slow and forgetful. However I’d return.
