We let the restaurant know we were celebrating our anniversary. Every single person. wished us "Happy Anniversary", from the hosts who greeted us, to the waiter, to the busser. Multiple times, even. It was our first visit to Bazaar Meats, tho we had been to Bar Mar downstairs. Upstairs is quieter, darker despite big windows with river views, and smaller. It' a comfortable space. I ordered a rum cocktail to start; it was a well balanced drink, just delicious and potent. To eat, we ordered patatas bravas, the grilled Gem lettuce salad, shrimp w/ garlic sauce, octopus and tournedos Rossini. The shrimp came first, accompanied by 4 triangles of crisp pan de cristal, followed by the salad, then the octopus and the tournedos together. The tournedos was room temperature and came sliced into 4 pieces to share with unctuous foie gras atop and in a pool of excellent silky Perigord sauce. The tournedos and the salad were the 2 stand-outs. Just delicious. We never got the potatoes, so when they had not arrived by the time we finished the meat dish, we cancelled the order. The meat was a plentiful portion ($90), the other dishes were rather skimpy. The kitchen is enamored of molecular gastronomy: there was a globe of parmesan espuma atop the salad which was both pretty and tasty. The hard round globe of coconut "floating island" you had to crack open with a spoon; that didn't work so well and did not have much coconut flavor but the pineapple beneath it did, while the rum sauce was a bit overpowering and icy cold. They brought an extra vanilla bean ice cream dessert with "Happy Anniversary" spelled out in foam which they torched tableside before it became visible. Cute touch. Service was good, friendly and competent. It's also a leisurely affair. The waiter asked us to order our entire meal at the beginning because the steaks take up to an hour to prepare. Food comes from different kitchens, so may not arrive in the order you'd expect; we got the shrimp before the salad and the octopus came at the same time as the tournedos. It's an expensive outing. Dinner for 2 with only one cocktail and no wine, came to a little over $200 with tax but before tip.
