Horrible service, our waiter literally pulled up once ever
Horrible service, our waiter literally pulled up once ever hour. Took 1 hour to get seated even though we had reservations. Stayed here for 3 and a half hours because there was a huge delay on getting the food. Steak was salty , literally way over seasoned. Felt like I was getting high blood pressure just eating it. The Korean tacos apps were maaaaad salty. The steak get outta here was even more salty which was hard to beat. Food was wack , bad service. Look at my other reviews I never give a 1 star but this place deserves a 0 respectfully especially with the prices they charge. They automatically put tip on the bill. High key wasn't trying to pay automatic 20% because the service was so wack. I drank 5 glasses of water here to wash down the steak. The halal cart around the corner got better eats ong. Avoid this spot at all cost unless you like to blow your bread for fun
Be the first to ReplyI came here for restaurant week for girls night!! we nabbed
I came here for restaurant week for girls night!! we nabbed one of the last reservations for dinner on a Sunday night. Literally had to come when they opened, but the inside is beautiful. You have to walk through a pawn shop to get inside and then the lobby/foyer is gorgeous. The ambience is very old New York, and looks like a hotel. We got the restaurant week deal for dinner, so an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I went with the brisket bao buns, skirt steak over fried rice, and the ice cream sundae for dessert. my friends also got the brisket bao bun, and one of us got the soup dumplings!! honestly we picked here partially because of the nacho/taco inspired soup dumplings. we were really excited to try them; appearance wise they looked really elegant and were easy to share since the dumplings each had their own spoon. however they were definitely more of a western interpretation on a dumpling, just floating in soup within the spoon. the dumpling was just a little dough ball, versus a thinner wrapping with filling. still yummy but just was a little disappointed by that. as for mains, i had to take off a star because of the skirt steak over fried rice. the steak was cooked and seasoned well, but the fried rice... it was so, so wet. i couldn't get over it, it was also seasoned in kinda a meh way, i mostly tasted bell pepper?? the wetness was super offputting. it was actually damp. at least they gave a very decent portion of it, i was lowkey stuffed halfway through the steak, but even if i hadn't been i probably wouldn't have been able to finish the fried rice. i opted NOT to take the main home because of how bad the fried rice was, even though i had over half the bowl remaining lol. the desserts were all delicious, one of my friends got the milk and cookie shot, which according to her was delicious. i got the ice cream sundae, which was one of the most beautiful sundaes i've ever seen, and it was almost as good as it looked. the ice cream was super creamy, although not super strongly flavored, but generally no complaints. i think this was worth the money, but next time i would get a different main. the ambiance really makes the meal feel special, next time i come i have to try the drink menu as well!!
Be the first to ReplyI went with a group of three other coworkers, and the food
I went with a group of three other coworkers, and the food was very good and the ambience can be described as somewhere between romantic and speakeasy-ish. The server we had was terrible. He was very flipit in his menu discussion, seldonmly visited the table, left all of our dirty dishes on the table for the entire meal and was very short and Kurt with us. He spent excessive time, flirting with other patrons, instead of tending to all of his customers. His name was Safi. The manager resolved my dissatisfaction in an agreeable manner so for that reason, I can negate the poor service, and simply review the food and ambience, which was very good
Be the first to ReplyWalking into this restaurant felt like finding a secret
Walking into this restaurant felt like finding a secret treasure. It's lively and fun inside, with great music. It looks like a pawn shop from the outside, but inside, it's a whole different world. The food was great too. I loved the kale apple salad because the sauce was so good, and the mac and cheese with truffles was something special. The eggplant was a deliciously light start to the meal. The steak tasted good, but the sauces with it were just okay. The service was fast and professional. This place is really worth checking out for its cool vibe and tasty dishes.

Ambiance of the place is nice but the food is pretty average for the price you pay. Service was also a bit slow. It took almost 20 minutes for them to bring out our drinks.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed in our experience here.
We had made a reservation for 9PM and arrived on time. We checked in with the hostess and can already see a huge amount of people waiting for their table. Surely enough, we couldn't even get a seat in the waiting area. We went over to the bar and ordered a very overpriced drink but the drink was good. We probably aren't seated until 10PM. The only pro during this check in process was the coat check. Once we arrived at our table, the table was very small and close to the other tables. We could hear everyone's conversation around us. We asked our server a few questions that we had about the menu. It was very loud and we could barely hear his replies. We did ask about the restaurant week menu's tortilla soup dumplings. We decided to give that a try since he said they were known for that and explained the ingredients and how it's made. After we ordered, he asked us if we had any allergies. We both said no. When the food started to arrive, we both tried the dumplings. Yes, absolutely delicious! They were placed on a soup spoon each. Once we took a bite, we were both kinda confused. This tastes like tomato soup? This also has bacon. Major alert. My boyfriend doesn't eat pork due to religious reasons. We were really upset at this point. We asked our server if there's bacon in our dish. He was rude and started off with "Remember when I asked you guys if you had food allergies or restrictions?" I said no. You asked if we have allergies and we don't. I never heard restrictions. He said "OK so you guys want a new one made?" We said yes without bacon if you can. Well, he took it personal and never stopped by our table again. Lack of service the rest of the night. We were talking amongst ourselves on how they were able to serve a dish with bacon without listing the ingredient out. Now after the fact - we realize that Beauty & Essex gave us the wrong dumplings. They gave us the grilled cheese, smoked bacon and tomato soup dumplings. Smoked Bacon is in the name of this dish - not what we ordered. We had to wait around for everything after we exchanged this out. From the time that we came in to the time that we left, dinner took 2.5 hours due to the overbooked tables wait and our server's attitude. We actually paid the bill, tipped, and as we were leaving he made eye contact as we walked past and he did not even thank us. The pros on this were the food was pretty decent. I enjoyed the chicken parmesan that was on the restaurant week menu. It was fairly large and the leftovers the following day tasted great too. I also ordered the beef wellington and although it did not come out cut to see the beauty of it's work, it tasted spot on. Due to our poor experience, we will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyMade a New Year's Eve reservation which was on a Sunday.
They confirmed on Friday. Sunday at 3 pm they call to say they no longer have our 7pm table available or I can take a 6 pm table. I live 90 minutes away and was at the gym at the time. I basically had to cancel. What kind of business operates this way? No care for their customers whatsoever and the hostess who called sounded so vapid and like she couldn't care less how wrong and unethical this was. The absolute worst customer service. Do not take the risk.

Beauty & Essex is a spot I've heard so much about but haven't been to up until 2 weeks ago. We arrived on a rainy Sunday night to an almost full restaurant and walk-ins waiting by the bar. Don't let the pawn shop entrance fool you, as the elegant interior is behind the door inside. They were doing a restaurant week special that night. They let you pick 3 courses for $60 a person. For apps, we ordered the grilled cheese dumplings and crispy bao buns. The crispy bao buns were delicious, I would definitely order them again. The grilled cheese dumplings were good, more on the simple side though. They came inside serving spoons filled with tomato soup, so you could easily slurp them up. For entrees, we ordered the lobster carbonara and chicken parm. Both came in gigantic portions. They were just okay, nothing to write home about. For dessert, we ordered the doughnuts. They came with a caramel, mixed berry, and chocolate dipping sauce. These were pretty good, especially with the caramel sauce. The service was friendly but a bit spotty as the dining room was huge and busy. It took awhile to get our check and the waiter never came back to offer us another round of drinks. 3.5 rounded to a 3. The food was okay, atmosphere was amazing, and drinks were good!

Sunday brunch was nice, food was good, service better, atmosphere lively. It's more so for the experience then to experience the food, so dinner is best. Time to get boujee, you already know...
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing speakeasy restaurant.
Not many non NYer knows about this restaurant, even some NYers dont know since there is no restaurant sign on the front store. It is disguised as a pawn shop. The decoration and design inside are wonderful and elegant, perfect for a date night and special occasion. We had restaurant week menu and B&E prefix brunch. We had: 1. Fruit & chia seeds parfait that is flavorful & healthy 2. Red velvet waffle with cream cheese icing is so fluffy and a hint of sweetness. 3. Shaksuka with toasted bread are perfect combo and delicious. You can substitute the bread with salad. 4. Short ribs Rancheros are small portions (2 bites only), but delicious. 5. The side potatoes with sausages and gouda cheese are so delicious. I need the rancheros sauce to add the flavor. Overall, it is an epic deal!!! We left the restaurant content and happy.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on March 18th our reservation was for 9:45pm.
Although the place is beautiful and the food was good that's all we were paying for. We were a group of 6 black women who was sat right under the AC which they couldnt turn down a bit for some unknown reason. We got seated super late (around 10:00/10:15) and yes the whole party was here and on time. Our server took forever to take our drink orders, and then our food orders (didn't get her name but she was white). she clearly didn't want to continue waiting us so much so that she switched with another waitress (black lady) because "her night was coming to an end" when in reality she was still working other tables and was still there when we left. it took us two hours to get our food. In the middle of us not getting our food, a party of 10 white women sat down behind us and got served their food, while my table and another table of black women was only served our drinks. When our food did finally come we noticed that one of our people didn't get her food so when the new waitress went to check on it she came back and said it was never ordered. which was weird because we all saw her take that order and even answered our friends questions about what it comes with and what cheese she wanted on it. So I'm assuming she didn't put the order in on purpose. People only come here for the aesthetic but whats the point when the service is trash.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience and the food was delicious.
I had the soup dumplings and the lamb chops. While my partner had the steak. They were able to accommodate us about 20 to 15 minutes earlier than our reservation. Once we came in we were immediately brought to a table. Our waitress was perfect very friendly knowledgeable didn't interrupt our dinner too much which was greatly appreciated.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were both mediocre.
For how expensive their dishes are I really wanted it to at least taste good. Of the 7 dishes we ordered only one tasted good enough to finish... (i think it was called peruvian chicken or something). The best part about the place was probably the bathroom

Loved this place in the past but today less than a 1/2 hr before our reservation we got a call that they had to cancel with really no reason. Pretty disappointing especially when coming from out of town.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was great, delicious food, good service.
A bit loud, but very enjoyable experience!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing environment with great everything.
Beautiful inside speakeasy feel with a extensive top shelf drink selections.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was okay but not great for the price.
Our waiter was great though. It's an interesting place and it was nice to go once to see the vibe but I'm not in a rush to go back

This experience was nothing short of amazing! From the semi secret location..to the decor the ambiance, every thing was so elegant. The lighting is great for photo opps. We went for a birthday brunch. We're from Atlanta and ATL knows how to brunch but Beauty and Essex has it going on. We chose to do the pre fix menu which comes with a bottle of rose, brut so not sweet one I would typically order anyway. We added on the oysters which were very good. The chicken biscuits were very unique, with a blue cheese and the strawberry ricotta toast was a surprisingly good pairing!!The chef sent complementary COCONUT hot chocolate shots ! Sooo good! For dessert they sent a birthday cupcake with a candle! So sweet. We added on some desert cocktails. The double dirty chai was a fresh twist to an espresso martini really enjoyed and my husband enjoyed the brown butter! The service was great we had a trainee and a trainer very accommodating and thorough! I made a reel with pictures @londonj1

We didn't have a reservation but managed to grab some couch seats in their upstairs space upon walking in late on a Friday evening. Bar bites were very delicious and the space had a fun decor! The couch set up wasn't ideal for a group to eat but definitely a good compromise for drinks without a reservation ahead of time. The crowd was interesting -- a mix of very young model types and much older what looked to be business types.

Beautiful, dimly lit place located behind the doors of a pawn shop - sort of like a speakeasy. We went with a group of 20+ for a birthday and were seated all the way in the back on the first floor. It was a bit crowded and seemed like we were all sitting on top of each other, had no space to move really and servers had little space to walk behind us. Other than that, our meal was served family style and we enjoyed the food. A favorite was the Thai-style fried shrimp, the fish tacos, the scallops, and the tomato soup dumplings (wow!!). The drinks were delicious and strong. I had the Holidazed and I tried the Emerald Gimlet as well. The Holidazed was my favorite (especially if you are a tequila lover). The Gimlet is good for vodka lovers. At the end, we ordered an espresso martini with baileys and it was good, but someone within our party ordered a regular espresso martini but tasted like cold brew coffee. The place was packed on a Saturday night, so of course I would recommend making a reservation early.

The interior is beautiful but once it hits busy time, it's a bit chaotic since it's such a trendy spot. Everyone is there looking good, the space feels sexy, the drinks are strong. The food is really good, they do Asian tapas really well, the dumplings and the tacos were my favorite and the bone marrow was impressive. Head for the bathroom when you feel like you might have to go in 15m cus there's a long wait but it'd not horrible bc it's cute and a lot of places to take selfies in
Be the first to ReplyI love love love this place.
So lovely. Good service. Swanky, romantic, etc. etc. just go! Maybe follow up with some weird but thorough entertainment at the Slipper Room around the corner! Very NYC experience.
Be the first to ReplyI have had this place bookmarked for the longest time .
I finally came here with my friend to celebrate her birthday . We ordered West Point oysters and bone marrow for our appetizers . The oysters were fresh . The bone marrow was decent size . I ordered the lamb chops and my friend ordered the beef Wellington . I was a bit disappointed in our entrees. The lamb was seasoned well but was really fatty. My friend had asked for her Wellington to be cooked rare but it was more medium rare. The outside crust was not crispy but soggy . The service was not good . Our server was giving us attitude due to that fact I think he felt like we weren't ordering enough food and drinks . We were wanting to order dessert from their menu but it was lacking. In the end , we decided to get boba milk tea . The restaurant decor and ambiance is perfect for date night or to celebrate a special occasion ย . However, I would not come back here to eat again .

We came here for our anniversary in November 2021 so it's been a bit of time but we really enjoyed our experience. Decor is really chic and the service is really lovely. We had the wheel of different desserts which was a great array of artisanal treats yum!
