I had lunch at Benoit with a friend last Wednesday. As usual, it was a ver6 good experience. We were also pleased to see the restaurant was pretty busy. Life is coming back to normal. The restaurant is light and airy. It has that bistro feeling, which is what they are going for. When you are seated they present two gougeres in a basket. We were asked what kind of water we liked. They are fine with tap water as your choice. We both moved directly into entrees. I ordered the duck, which was excellent. Substantial too. It ran about $38. It came with a large roasted artichoke heart. My friend ordered steak, which ran about $42. It came with a salad on the side. We ordered a bottle of red wine to go with lunch. They have a large wine list, focusing on French wines. The menu lists wine by the glass, but you want to check out the fill list. After studying the list I discovered a red from Southwest France that ran about $50. That is a good deal. We skipped dessert and asked for the check, but it’s worthwhile to point out they have chocolate soufflé on the dessert menu. It runs about $20 and takes 15 minutes to prepare, but how many places offer soufflés? Not many. They also have a selection of dessert wines by the glass. Are there negatives? It’s on the expensive side, but there is a reputation factor to consider. Benoit is an Alain Ducasse restaurant. He has multiple restaurants around the world, several with Michelin stars. Here’s something you need to know. They open at noon. Exactly at noon. You might be able to sit in the bar area and relax if you arrive at 11:50 AM, but no one gets seated until 12:00. Fo4 me, it’s an opportunity to study the wine list, which is presented on an iPad. Benoit is a favorite. I come back as often as I can.
