Amazing lunch
Had a lovely lunch at Bentleys this afternoon! Lovely food and amazing service from Federico ! Cant wait to be back ! See you soon!

My wife and I booked an early reservation at 6pm following a visit to the theatre. We rarely come to London but had dined at Bentley's around 8 years ago. Our meal then was superb so we decided to book again and were not disappointed. We reserved a table on the terrace which was very pleasant. Service was impeccable. Staff were knowledgeable about both drinks and food and very polite. I am a coeliac and was also provided with gluten free bread (albeit sliced and not fresh). As an aperitif we had a martini with a sundried tomato. If you like dirty martinis I would definitely recommend it. We had a selection of oysters to start and for mains my wife had turbot and I had the smoked haddock dish. All accompanied with a nice bottle of reasonably priced Sauvignon Blanc. Whilst it is not a cheap place to eat, it is most certainly worth it and we will definitely return although next time would eat inside. Behind us was a table with approximately 6 people and one of the women was smoking. Legally I know it is acceptable as one side of the Terrace is exposed and my wife didn't want to make a fuss. However, when she lit her second cigarette whilst we were enjoying our main course - with the smoke going over our table - I did politely ask them to stop which they did immediately although with various comments in another language. I do feel that one of the waiters should have asked them to step outside of the "tented" area so as not to inconvenience other diners. Aside from this slight inconvenience we had another incredible meal and will no doubt return another day.
Be the first to ReplyLuigi the bar man is great
Well this place was amazing and it was made even more remarkable by Luigi who shucked my oysters to perfection and guided me to an amazing meal and great conversation, while also dealing with a full restaurant. The food could not have been any better, I decided to sit at the bar which was fun. Everyone was great.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic seafood with ambience
We decided to treat ourselves to an anniversary bank holiday lunch and returned to Bentleys As usual we sat at the counter to watch the team shuck oysters and the whole restaurant performance Course after course arrived and were all superb. Particular note was the crab on artichoke , the superb oysters and whole roasted Turbot. All paired with a caraf (or two) of White Burgundy made for the perfect lunch.
Be the first to ReplyStill my favorite among the temples to seafood in London.
I love Bentley's despite the fact, I only get there a couple of times a year. As usual, I sat at the oyster bar, where the service is beyond wonderful and correct. I started with an assortment of native oysters which are not available where I live (NJ). It is a bit of a splurge, but they are a taste, texture and brininess that leaves east coast and Canadian oysters, a second place in the race. I couldn't resist an additional three Loch Ryan natives. As usual, I couldn't resist the dressed crab, despite the fact I know I was overdoing it. Still, I could not leave without the Dover Sole meunière and some creamed spinach. With a pre lunch cocktail and a crisp Chablis, I was happy as a clam (albeit a stuffed one). If you like the best of British seafood served in a classic atmosphere, get here quickly and bring your wallet.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, location and VERY friendly staff!
Last minute arrangements/reservation with some friends....they had been to Bentleys before, my wife and I hadn't. Super friendly welcome, great cocktails in the downstairs bar and then upstairs to eat. Fabulous oysters, excellent wines both white and red, very tasty and well presented food and perfect service....knowledgeable, professional and friendly. All in all a truly great dinner/dining experience!
Be the first to ReplyGood not great
Used a Red Letter Days voucher from our son and had the Royal Seafood platter and glasses of bubbly. Thought the seafood was good but not great. Tables are a little too close together in the restaurant for privacy but staff are great and extra desserts were lush. Just thought it was pricey for what you get.
Be the first to ReplyLate lunch on the arrival.
Had a late on our arrival to London. The place was highly recommended by a local family, as one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. Because it was a late lunch, the place wasn't busy, as we expected. We choose outside seating. Great set-up for people watching in and out. The service is highly knowledgeable and professional. The menu is full of varieties. Everything you would expect in upscale places like this. Incredibly fresh and delicious. The wine list is up to pair. It was expensive, but it was worth it.
Be the first to ReplyVery good - definitely worth trying
Very, very good food, wine and service. Not quite at 5 star level though yet. Service and style is a bit dated and food is great but not exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent fish restaurant
Historic restaurant in central London, renowned for its fish cuisine. Excellent quality of food served, courteous and highly professional staff, good and varied wine list. To return.
Be the first to ReplyGo for the Oysters...food is OK
This is a good place to come for oysters. Food is fine. Fish and chips were good. The server seemed to be dropping off and dashing instead of stopping to take the order and serve us.
Be the first to ReplyCan we eat here every week? Err, no!
A birthday treat and oh, what a treat! This is our most visited restaurant of all time although of late trips have been less frequent for various reasons. We charged our wallets and put on our best clothes ready for a fine afternoon’s indulgence with full intentions of blowing the budget. Slipping back into this place is like a pair of comfy, familiar shoes but still with the wonder and anticipation of what is to come. Well, firstly some fresh as you like, immaculately prepared oysters that can only benefit from a helping of fizzy lube. I went for the scallop ceviche with grapefruit, pomegranate, chilli and BANG what a mouthful of flavour, coupled with the perfect soft, succulent, slithers of scallop (easy for you to say) this has to be my best ever raw dish. In my mouth/mind it was partytime with the most beautiful women, the best music the anticipation of the night ahead and the distant memory of youth when nights extended past 11pm. My main of halibut with smoked eel and morels was cooked to perfection with the fish superbly flaking and the earthy fungi and Smokey eel adding to a dish greater than the sum of its parts. Champagne flow coming towards the end we shared the Irish apple tart and, yet again, what a triumph. The bitterness of the apple was a revelation to me, and finished off a gut busting fishy feast of mega proportion. I don’t think it is normal to have every dish/course so perfect and to one’s complete satisfaction but that’s what happened today. It was my meal of the last year without question, and we have been to some top restaurants in that time, including multi-star places. I have to be fair, complained before about prices here, but this time I have no complaints. Apart from I can’t afford to eat here every week.
Be the first to ReplyCosy and yummy oysters
Great friendly staff in the restaurant, the front of house at door could be a little less formal upon arrival The Irish man they have in the bar is fantastic, so friendly and knowledgeable about oysters ! My lobster spaghetti was underwhelming I’d go again for oysters and champagne
Be the first to ReplyA must visit.
I have lived in London for all of my life and have never been to Bentleys. Last Christmas my wife gifted my friend and I an Oyster opening Masterclass. What a wonderful experience hosted by the magnificent Federico and Pierluigi who were both extremely entertaining and knowledgeable. We followed the experience with lunch which was magnificent. The food and service was first class all orchestrated by the wonderful Michele. Thank you we will return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Service and Atmosphere
Overall enjoyed the lunch here, huge portions and service was very good. The place is relaxing and staff are welcoming. I had oysters which were extremely fresh, salt cod ravioli which was nice and the largest piece of turbot I've ever been served. All enjoyable but slightly bland/underwhelming. Turbot was on the dry side. I would return for the oysters and to try more of their cold shellfish but the cooked dishes were a little uninventive and overpriced in my opinion.

Finally got to sample the delights of Bentley’s Oyster Bar on a trip down to London. It lived up to its reputation for a warm welcome , professional friendly staff and sensational sea food delights. A plate of 6 oysters shucked before my very eyes included Loch Ryan Natives (super!) , Jersey and Realt Na Mar from County Kerry. So enjoyed the brown Soda bread . I make this at home according to Richard Corrigan’s recipe so the chance to compare was great. I need to practice! Main course of Tempura prawns with lime Aoili was excellent with a fine light batter. Some green chillis and coriander garnish added a pleasing kick. A Cashel blue cheese plate completed proceedings. Service was first class with Maria very helpful and choosing my wine as I’d forgotten my glasses and struggled to read the wine list. And what a list it is! There’s a unique ambience about the Oyster Bar that transports you back in time. It’s a personality all of its own. Next time I might try the main dining room as the photos I’ve seen are inspiring. For those dashing about there’s an outdoor space but the bar was a comforting refuge to enjoy a memorable lunch experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food & service
We were here as a couple on a Saturday night and the service, food and ambience was excellent. Would definitely go here again
Be the first to ReplyFriendly Excellence
The team achieves the holy grail of the restaurant world. Happy, caring staff and food that is outstanding. All with a relaxed charm that appears to be completely spontaneous rather than ‘trained’ in. We love our fish and have dined in many specialist venues. Most are on the coast where you’d expect decent fish (for some reason.) Bentley’s outclasses them all.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific Seafood!
We were happy to return to Bentley’s again. Love the seafood. Best fish n chips anywhere! Excellent smoked salmon, and oysters of course! Excellent service.
Be the first to ReplyAtmospheric seafood heaven
Been meaning to head here for a while and absolutely loved the place. Sat downstairs in the Oyster Bar which seems the way to go, and was really lively and atmospheric. Great service, breaking down the oyster choices, specials and wines with lots of care and detail. Our waiter Jhon had a brilliant personality and really made lunch extra special. Well versed on the joys of Rock Oysters it was awesome to try some Natives and see the master shuckers do their thing from behind the bar. There’s no hiding from the fact these native aged bivalves are a pricey treat but perfectly shucked, meaty and fresh as a daisy it’s worth splashing out once in a while. The specials are fab and my wife loved her starter of the plumpest mackerel fillet I’ve ever seen with smoked mackerel rillettes on a dinky homemade crumpet. We shared a huge brill with brown shrimp butter, again delivered seamlessly even with the succulent cheeks dissected and given to us on a little side plate. Finished with a wonderful espresso and are now sold on heading there for one of their regular oyster master classes that would surely set you up for a pretty superb day!
Be the first to ReplyTry the house Negroni
We only popped in for drinks as we had a booking a little later in another restaurant. The atmosphere is great and the food looked marvellous. We’ll definitely be back to sample the menu. We sat at the bar and watched the barman create numerous cocktails and he certainly knows his stuff. I had the house Negroni and the taste was better than any I’ve had previously. Anywhere. He explained that it was down to the very special Barolo Vermouth with herbs infused for 12 months. Couldn’t recommend the place any higher.

Be the first to ReplyHospital visit wasn’t an expected part of our meal experience 😞
We ate here before our show at the london Palladium, I decided on the suggested oysters. During the first half of the stage performance I was violently ill, so ill that I was taken to hospital and admitted. I received excellent treatment at UCLH. I wish I could say the same about Bentleys, tbf they offered a free meal. However as I had food poisoning we were understandably reluctant to accept, so we asked for a refund. We sent several emails as we wanted Bentleys to have the opportunity put it right. Their response was to ignore us. Really really disappointed this is the outcome.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect afternoon at Bentleys
Bentleys delivered on all fronts - welcome, seating, food, wine, service, ambience. A refreshingly enjoyable experience.
Be the first to ReplyFamily celebration
Celebration for my Mother in Law’s 86th birthday. Wonderful seafood cocktail followed by the monkfish and prawn curry. Everyone enjoyed the food and wine. Pity that we had next table smoking - we were outside- but still unpleasant.
