We used to go to Bistro du Vin regularly, as the food is reliable and prices are reasonable. A recent visit confirms why we haven't been back much in recent years. Service is still fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable - and prices are still reasonable. But the food is only average. There are now many restaurants serving very good, satisfying traditional French food that don't make a big hole in your pocket.

This is a good place for a fuss-free date night, as it serves the French classics and has a good steak to please many.It gets busy on Friday nights so be sure to make a reservation. The interior is decorated in a comfy French bistro feel. Service is good. Food here is generally good and fault-free, if a little boring, but one comes here for classic bistro fare. Prices run a bit high, but a place so convenient right in the middle of town, with generally good food- it's nice here. It's not super romantic, but it will do.

This used to be a great place to get lunch, with dishes that did not compromise and served very French, traditional food at an unbeatable price. I hadn't been for a year or two and booked it out of memory for the sheer reliability of the place.Sadly the menu has been noticeably thinned, as have the portions. Some of the cooking is still there, but the spirit seems gone. The chicken consomme on the other hand was a bit of a joke, like getting the soup with your chicken rice from the local hawker, except with a quarter as much chicken flavour (if all you are serving is clear soup it should, at least, be flavourful). The menu items generally have gone from great but locally more challenging Escoffier-ish French bistro food to the same popular steak and fries you can get anywhere (at a premium too). The classic bacon stew in a Creuset pot is gone for good, and sides now cost more than dessert used to, instead of being included. The price has jumped to an incredible 40++ for 3 courses, which puts it above Gunther's which is (French, not Singaporean) Michelin star worthy (the RSW Sentosa Michelin Guide is not really a Michelin guide). The wine prices are on par with fine dining places like Whitegrass or Jaan; but the tables have no white tablecloth to justify the premium.I should say the service is as good as it's always been. That part hasn't changed.I do not know what has happened at the Les Amis group but I have other options for a French lunch and will exercise them rather than return. BdV of old, you will be missed. On the upside, congratulations on a website that now works.

Took the brother and family out for a celebratory dinner for my niece completing her exams. Firstly since it was a Saturday night it is recommended to make a reservation. So we ordered two escargots to share, a duck confit, a pork shoulder, a beef cheek and a lamb chops entrees. Honestly all of entrees tasted great. The pork shoulder was a little salty but excellent. Service was timely and very good. By the time we were almost done, the restaurant was fully occupied. In fact we had to leave by 8:20 to accommodate for the next seating. Prices were moderate and the meal was enjoyable.I look forward to coming back again.
Be the first to ReplyWas at the Zion branch and now here for my birthday lunch.
Attempted to try different from what we ordered at Zion previously. Since we know from last by ordering 3 of each for appetizer, main and dessert, we were so stuffed we can barely walk straight. So we did the 2, 3 and 3 set lunch. 3 appetizers comprising mushroom soup, camenbert and pan seared foie gras. All were supered though i think the foie gras is a little better at zion. For the mains we got the Ravioles De Royans with Ratatouille and Braised Beef "Bourguinon". The Ratatouille surprising fat better though it was vegan. Not saying the beef was bad. The desserts were creme brûlée, hazel parfait and the choc tarte with raspberry sorbet. All fantastic! And the set lunches came with cuppacino not one of those house blend coffee. So all in all a fabulous lunch and the sleepy spell is kicking in again. Oh yes....since i work around here there is this senior gentlemen that sits and the corner seat everyday so perhaps the quality control boss
Be the first to ReplyMy goto restaurant for some home cook French food.
Been through most of its standard menu (which is very good, with rustic home cook charms) , every time I eagerly look forward to the specials of the day on the classic blackboard. One of the standard menu starter had since migrated to the specials ( read: not always available ) is the anchovies with tomatoes and feta, that is a must have starter for me. The stews are generally lovely and the specials (once you'd gone through the standard menu) are what makes the trip exciting. The wine list is great and you can also ask for the Les Amis wine list for even more selections.

I have been to this outlet twice and so far, it has not disappoint. Location is great, firstly. You may come here after a day of shopping and it still feels like you are in some quaint, little alley with the dark red facade that you see in Paris. The braised beef cheek and duck confit are my favourite. The braised beef cheek has this home-cooked flavour comes in the creuset pot. The duck confit comes with tasty mashed potato that you will indulge in even though you are pretty much filled to the brim. The coq au vin was just an average dish to me. Service was exceptional that night that I went to celebrate my friend's birthday. They kept pouring drinks before we asked for water. I personally think it is commendable in Singapore. We didn't order dessert that night, we will be back for sure but I am not sure when.

After a period of nothing but oriental cuisine (of which I'm normally a fan) whilst travelling on business in the region, I was really craving European food. This place really hit the spot: classic Bistro Rouge décor, a menu that would fit in anywhere in La France profonde, and a particularly good Joues de Boeuf Braisee.I'll definitely go back next time I'm in country.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food.
Brings me back to France immediately. Service is good. Set lunch is very good value for money.
