Beautiful restaurant and sophisticated.
We tried some of the smaller dishes which the beef tartare was fresh and well balance with the chips on top. The scallops on the other hand with the sauce on top was too salty to my liking but the cucumber with it was really good idea.

After my meal there last night, I think it might be the best restaurant in all of Chicago (including its neighbor). The nice thing about this place is that its a fine dining establishment where you can just straight up order or get the tasting menu. We went for the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Most of us got the standard, but one did get the enhanced. Tuna Taco: Excellent fresh start. Most at my table thought this was the "worst" dish of the night. With all the courses, it got a little bit lost in the mix, but I think it was more of a palate cleanser. Tempura Mitake: This came out with the Tuna Taco, but most of us ate second. We were glad we did as this was a little heavier than the taco. It went excellent with the wine which was bubbly. I am not a big mushroom fan, but this was good! Bread and Butter: While technically not a course, I greatly enjoyed this. Very good bread and fresh butter! The others at the table were not as excited for this, but I loved it! Cured Hiramasa: This had a great citrus flavor and had crunchy bottom. It was also served with a Kabinett which is my favorite wine. Up til this point, the table agreed that this was the strongest dish. White Asparagus: We also really like this with its citrus sauce (sense a theme?). Again, not the biggest asparagus fan, but I liked this! Stracinati: This was my absolute favorite dish (it was everybody else's third favorite). It had a buttery and crunchy thing going on that I absolutely loved. The pasta was also cooked perfectly! Ocean Trout: This was everybody's favorite hands down (it was my third favorite). This trout was flaky and served in a bed of sauce. The wine that went with this was outstanding! Wagyu: Who doesn't like a piece of steak? This was everybody's second favorite dish. Steak was nearly melt in your mouth and the lettuce was grilled which gave it a neat charred flavor. Sorbet: We started to get super filled at this part. The sorbet was good, but nothing too exciting. We REALLY lied the brown butter crumbles on the bottom. I could have eaten a bowl of that granola looking thing! Buckwheat Porridge: We were unsure on this, but this was a VERY STRONG ending to our meal. There was so much sweet and fruit flavor in here. We ended with some chocolates and small cookies which were good, but I didn't really get much of a description. We all got a little tea cake to take home which sounded excellent. I will be eating it when I get home tonight as I didn't have any more room in my stomach! As for the service, it might be some of the greatest I have ever gotten in a restaurant. Augustus was outstanding and perfectly matched the excitement of our table. We had a few people new to fine dining and he fielded so many great questions. His wine speeches were top notch. As for the wine pairings, I would say that they were the biggest deal of the night. We got 7 samples of wines that went with dishes perfectly. The higher end pairings went well for the one person except the second to last wine (he ended up bringing out the standard one that we all had for her instead). While the wines she had were of the higher end, please know that the standard pairing aren't much lower in quality. Theres a big difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $50. Its harder comparing a $50 to a $100 so don't feel bad about getting the "cheap" pairing. Shoutout to Max and Juan who were helping Augustus with making sure our table looked presentable and our waters were alway filled. Once again, outstanding service! Speaking of cheap. This place isn't cheap, but it never pretends to be! This is the fine dining that you see on "The Bear". In fact, I would say that this is a slightly better deal than most of the other fine dining restaurants in Chicago. The food is fancy, but approachable. Its upscale, but not stuffy. The food, wine, and service is all top notch so I will be coming back here again sometime in the future. This will be my "go to" super fancy place.
Be the first to ReplyWent here to celebrate my birthday with a friend.
Did the 8 course tasting menu on Sunday, April 7. Service was incredible - water was ALWAYS full, and the food had a lot of variety. They do serve a vegetarian tasting menu, and it looked comparable to the normal one. Highlights included the strascinati (pasta with a cream sauce), the slow cooked Tasmanian ocean trout (tasted like a perfectly cooked salmon with a cream sauce), and the French white asparagus. The tasting menu was heavier on the cream side and the first few bites of the tasting menu had more gelatin that I was expecting. $175 is a little pricey, but Boka is a staple to go to. I'm glad we went, and it didn't feel pretentious or over the top. You can come in nice sneakers or heels - which is a plus for the environment :) The service was INCREDIBLE and we felt taken care of the entire meal. I'll definitely want to come back for a restaurant week one year!

The service was so good especially Max and Jack. Thank you for everything I come with my fiancé that was so nice. Thank you for your service. I will be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis was absolutely delightful.
Our server, Alexa, was excellent. She gave great recommendations and great drink and wine pairing suggestions. The service from everyone was impeccable. I had the bay scallops for my appetizer, the short ribs, and chocolate cremeux for dessert. Everything was delicious. I will be back.

michelin-star worthy !! took my boyfriend to Boka for his birthday and got the eight-course tasting menu, which i would definitely recommend for special occasions! sometimes michelin restaurants try to do too much or be toooo quirky, but Boka stuck to the classics and made them excellent, which i loved tasting menu: - maine uni & tempura honeynut squash - lightly cured hiramasa - foie gras - tasmanian ocean trout - maitake agnolotti - châtel farms american wagyu - concord grape - lapsang souchong ice cream - drinks: espresso martinis

We told them we were on a tight schedule and they accommodated - no problem! The highlight was definitely the roast duck. OMG they bring this bird out before carving it - a gleaming and glistening work of gastronomic art! Bravo!
Be the first to ReplyI get why they've got a Michelin star!!!.
The service was impeccable, with ALL the wait staff doing their part in VERY timely manner, while being unobtrusive and respectful The ambiance and overall setting was PERFECT, and the food was FANTASTIC! We ate here during restaurant week and that made it SO worth the money! I was with 2 other folks who were more than willing to share their plates around the table. THAT is heaven on earth for me! So, I'd LOVE to show pictures of every single dish, but Yelp puts a limit on the # of pictures. So, no picture of my Layover in Kyoto, even though it was a PERFECT cocktail! I'm including a picture of the menu, so you can see EVERYTHING we ate... It was ALL exceptionally good! Thank Chicago for their restaurant week, so it's more affordable to try places like this!!!

First time trying a Michelin star restaurant and the experience was really good! The food was great for the restaurant week price of $59. The location is really pretty. Person who seated us seemed kind of spacey, but the staff that cleared the plates were very kind.

Be the first to ReplyCame here for restaurant week.
Our reservation was at 4:30 and we were seated promptly once our party was complete. I ordered the Beef Tartare, Scallop, Icelandic Cod, and the Black Sesame Brownie. Coming into the reservation, I was very excited because Boka has a Michelin star. Perhaps because it was a restaurant week menu, overall I felt everything was just okay. The food felt standard, good, but did not blow me away. The courses came out rapidly one after the other making the meal feel rushed, though the waitstaff never rushed us in anyway. The overall service was good, but less attentive than I expected. For example, the waitstaff missed and spilled some water on the table when refilling my glass. For the rest of the meal, my plate and setting sat in splashes of water. The ambiance of the general dining room was lovely though. The noise levels were surprisingly low allowing for easy chatting with your party. The dishware and the candle holder were ambient. Overall, I think Boka was a solid experience and I'd love to experience it during non-restaurant week.

We had resos at BOKA for our anniversary and would like to begin with their service was impeccable. From the time we arrived, having best seat in the house, and spectacular staff paying attention to every little detail (dietary restrictions) guests are in for dining experience. The restaurant was perfectly lit along music in the background was perfect. We were able to have a conversation and without having to raise out voices. They offer a full menu and pre-fixe menu option. We opted for their pre-fixe meal option. If you're feeling adventurous, we highly recommend their pre-fixe meal option. We were taken on a journey as our server explained each plate as being served. Highly recommend this BOKA.

Went for restaurant week in Chicago to get a little bit of a taste of the restaurant before deciding to go back for the full-experience. My experience was disappointing, not due to the food but due to the attention to details. Food was exceptional 5/5. The scallops were cooked perfectly and my favorite dish for the night. However, all the other dishes were excellent in their own way. Now comes why the review is only 2/5. - First, my starter beef tartar had a hair in it. Honestly this soured the rest of my experience as it went in my mouth and I was thinking about it for the rest of the dinner. - Second, one of our dishes came out wrong. We ordered the cod and they bought out a pork dish instead. So part of our group was eating while the other was not. Although they rectified the situation with bringing out replacement dishes in a timely manner and sent out a free dessert. I was not expecting these issues at this caliber of restaurant. The Ambiance of the restaurant was also pleasant. Which helped to alleviate some of the mistakes. In summary, food was delicious but the other moments have made me re-think about coming back for the full experience.

Since this restaurant is "far" from West Loop, and too far from the Loop to make viable a last-minute 5pm reservation after work, I never managed to eat here during all the years I spent in Chicago. The verdict is that Boka is a very good dressed-down fine dining experience and an excellent spot if you happen to live in the neighborhood. The wine pairing and sommelier made the experience very special for us. The tasting menu was commendable but needs multiple supplements to be something resembling a satisfying, complete dinner. If we're talking a close approximation at a relatively similar price point, I'd much prefer Sepia. If we're talking "WOW!" factor and composition of the experience, there are dozens of restaurants in Chicago where one can be better satisfied.

Came here for my birthday dinner! Lived up to the expectations. The food & wine were delicious, service was impeccable. Ambiance was on point, sexy & classy. Our minds were blown by the black truffle pasta special, roasted chicken, & short rib. Will definitely be back for a date night! Can't wait.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food.
Can not stress enough the outstanding staff and service. There's a reason they have a Michelin star. Definitely some of the best duck I've ever had in my life. If you have a reason to celebrate or treat yourself, do yourself a favor and come have the tasting menu. You won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is very nice but we had a few issues.
When we ordered our dinner the tasting was suggested so we ask the price and it was said 165.00 for both of you and 60.00 for both with the non alcohol. Your menu is very vague and we were surprised with a 500.00 bill. I get it it's a nice restaurant but not 500.00 dinner. Very disappointed. I was going to suggest this place but I don't want to now since it's more than a car payment. There was certainly not enough food for 500.00 worth. I really don't understand how it's worth it.
Be the first to ReplyOverall this was a good experience.
..however...does it truly deserve a Michelin star? Based on my one experience...sadly I would say no. The staff (on the most part) was friendly but it depends on whom you are interacting with that night. The food had some amazing highlights...but overall if you are planning on ordering a La carte...pass on this experience. Perhaps the 7 course tasting would have been a better experience...but unfortunately all at the table have to try it in order to participate. And usually I would do the tasting...but my companion was not up for it after a long travel day. I would def try the lightly cured kampachi and parsnip agnolotti if you do go. Do NOT get the whole roasted dry age duck. As much as I liked Jamal (our server) who recommended it, this duck was over cooked and cold cold (I have no clue how that can happen). When they asked if I wanted to pack the rest (common sense would have told you that I hardly touched it bc it was not good). It was so bad...I wouldn't let my maltipoo eat it. The ambiance of this place was nice...not too crowded for a Friday. It is very dark...so it could be considered romantic. However, if you are older...it is hard to read the menu with the sparse lighting.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a work dinner, everything was great.
The quality of food, the service and hospitality, the space, really nothing is complainable. My fav dishes are the beef tartar, the whole duck and the caramelized hazelnut, especially the last. The dessert here is worth coming back for it itself, the hazelnut simply melts in your mouth, and with the right level of sweetness, highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplySooo incredible.
Food, service, attention to detail. Amazing experience. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing experience.
The service was excellent from start to finish. We dined at Boka for my mom's birthday and had a wonderful time and enjoyed some really great dishes. Will be back for the next special occasion!
Be the first to ReplyI've visited BOKA for Restaurant Week every year since
I've visited BOKA for Restaurant Week every year since 2018! BOKA wins points for consistency and excellent execution. This year, I had:Dry Aged Beef Tartare - I'd usually go for the Tuna, but the beef was an unexpected surprise! Loved the subtle crunch and the delicate (??) wasabi flavor. Duck Leg Ravioli - The duck flavor was prominent and the pasta had a great bite to it. Definitely what you'd expect for the dish. As a scallop lover, I think I'd stick with the scallop next time simply because of preference. Roasted Chicken - I have to preface this by saying that I usually dislike chicken.... But this chicken was perfect tender, cut like butter with a crisp skin. No wonder this is a menu staple. Highly recommend! Dark Chocolate Mousse - My friend got the cheesecake and I had food envy. Don't get me wrong...this dessert was still great and an excellent balance of warm and cold. But the cheesecake was even better! We also had some drinks and were seated at the bar. The bartenders were excellent! Thank you for a great experience again!

Such a great great experience! My husband and I visited to celebrate my birthday during restaurant week. The service was impeccable, and the food was even better! Trust me when I say I love chocolate cakes, and Boka surprised me with one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever had. The food was so good, and I highly recommend it! My favourite was the pork main dish - loved it!
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing meal.
Each dish I had was created so wonderfully and were all so flavorful. I did have to wait around 20 minutes despite having a reservation but the service once I was seated did not disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyOverall experience was somewhat terrible.
Had to wait an additional 45 minutes despite having a 9:30 PM reservation. The estimated additional wait of 15-20 minutes was clearly not accurate. Additionally, we were then guided to a table which was not available so we were seated at the bar.Food in my opinion was okay. This is one of those places with fantastic ambiance and decorations, but the food and overall experience didn't quite hit the spot. Service was pretty good and staff was very attentive and courteous.
