Brigtsen's Restaurant New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
wonderful restaurant out of the French Quarter!
This restaurant came recommended from friends, and it was certainly a wonderful place to have dinner! Great food and service!
If you want to drink your expensive wine in a to-go cup⦠this is the place for you
We were in New Orleans for a celebration of life and had picked Brigstenβs because of past good experiences years ago. The restaurant is in need of some renovation and is not the greatest atmosphere. The room we were in had a large local group and the chef and staff really gave them the love. The room was pretty noisy and somewhat difficult to talk. I ordered the butternut shrimp bisque for an appetizer and for the entree the seafood platter. We had a two bottles of a wonderful wine to accompany. The food and wine were excellent. After finishing our meal we decided to just finish our wine and not order desert. The waiter seemed disappointed. This is when everything changed. The waiter suggested that we get to go cups for our wine and placed the bottle on the table. The Maitre βd then started circling our table like a vulture and giving us the eye. It wasnβt like we had been there an exorbitant amount of time and they certainly were willing to have taken a desert order. So time at the table was not the issue. I have never experienced the level of rudeness that we did that night. My partner expressed our disappointment to the Maitreβ d and she just didnβt care. So we will never be back. There are far better options in New Orleans.
Best meal in Nola
The whole group thought this was the best meal we had in New Orleans. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was beyond delicious... you could tell the chef really cares. Quaint atmosphere in a nice neighborhood. A few places we tried during our trip to Nola were highly rated and I would say were not warranted. However, Brigtsen's REALLY does deserve the reputation - what a meal.
Outstanding experience
This eatery has been on our list for a long time. We finally made it there and was not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed on our arrival and sat promptly despite being 45 minutes early for our reservation. The service was friendly and attentive. The recommendations were on point and the food was excellent. The portion sizes were beyond generous. You will not leave here hungry. The gumbo was outstanding! We will be recommending and look forward to returning.
Disappointed!
Made a reservation three weeks ahead of our visit to New Orleans with great anticipation of a wonderful dining experience at Brigsten's. We came here expecting the same amazing familiarity received at K-Paul's in the French Quarter. The host was welcoming and sat us immediately. Our server was friendly and provided us with prompt dinner service, but never returned to the table to address our needs. The table next to us was loud and seemed a bit tipsy. I ordered the pork chop which was salty and over seasoned. The warm German potato salad was very disappointing, with a bland mushy texture. My mother-in-law was from the Amish country, and she sure knew how to make this dish, flavorful and delicious. The red cabbage was simply delightful with a sweet and savory ending, a perfect match to accompany the pork. We ordered pecan pie for a sweet treat. It was the best I ever had! Thanks for a noteworthy evening, but I was disappointed.
Spectacular food
Small, quaint restaurant with spectacular food. We started with the butternut shrimp bisque and our only regret was that we ordered a cup instead of a bowl. The duck and seafood platter were both outstanding. We finished with the lemon cream brulee which was just the right ending to a phenomenal meal. Rye, our server was wonderful.
Excellent!
Our party of 4 had reservations and were seated immediately. Jane was our server and she was great! She has a great personality and you can tell that she enjoys her job. Our meal was exceptional. I had the filet that was cooked to perfection. Everyone else enjoyed their meals too. We didnβt have room for dessert so we ordered the pecan pie to go and it was delicious. We will definitely go again when in NOLA. Reservations are a must as they were packed.
Wonderful Food and Service
Outstanding service - very attentive and friendly. Made us feel like we were part of the family. I had the seafood platter and my husband had the duck. We shared the barbecued shrimp appetizer and the pecan pie for dessert. The food was delicious. The only slight complaints are that we were really thirsty the rest of the night as there was a lot of salt in the food and the restaurant was very cold. But, I would definitely return and I highly recommend the seafood platter with a little taste of several different dishes and none of the fried foods that some samplers include. Really wonderful evening.
A perfect dinner!
Whenever we are visiting New Orleans, we make sure to reserve dinner reservations at Brigtsenβs. This last time was as wonderful as we remembered. The shrimp bisque, the roast duck lβorange, the pork chop, the barbecued shrimp, the pecan pie with caramel sauce: all so delectable, so perfectly prepared by a master chef. The service is impeccable but relaxed and friendly, and my husband was thrilled to talk with Frank himself to tell him how much we love his food. We love taking the streetcar uptown and walking a short two blocks to culinary heaven.
Uptown restaurant near Tulane in a converted old house which hits all the right notes
I made a reservation over the phone a month in advance with a nice woman (no online reservations) to dovetail with the afternoon Tulane homecoming football game about a mile away an Yulman Stadium. After the game we walked over to Brigtsenβs for a 8PM reservation which they graciously moved up 45 minutes. Unfortunately my mate had shorts and a North Texas t-shirt on from the game which elicited a comment from the matron of the house but all was smoothed over. In another time not coming from a game I think we both would have been more comfortable had we been more appropriately dressed. One couple was there in a suit and tie/cocktail dress. Because we were on thin ice I opted not to take any food photos. π€£ The restaurant is a converted old house with seating both in what would have been a large parlor, and even a hallway. Quirky but very old New Orleans. The name is pronounced like Bright-sen, and spelled without the βhβ. Appetizers were a cooler Caesar Salad for my mate and a cup of Butternut Shrimp Bisque for me. The bisque was wonderfully flavorful but I probably should have asked it be warmed up a bit. Our entrees were both outstanding. My mate said his Trout MeuniΓ¨re was the best he had ever had with the right amount of sauce and pecans over a large portion he was unable to finish. I had the Seafood Platter aka Shell Beach Diet and it was sublime. Each one of its components would stand on its own as a main entree. Since I had had the Scalibut dish at GW Fins the night before I would have to say this Brigtsenβs Seafood Platter was even a bit better due to the wonderful variations in flavors each component had. Very rich too. I struggled to finish it but forced myself. π We shared a piece of excellent pecan pie which was a perfect end. Our service was friendly and well paced. One note. Since Brigtsenβs is a little out of the way it took longer than other times on a late Saturday night to get an Uber or Lyft to take us to our CBD hotel. Plan accordingly.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
