Brindille Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
It took a Chicagoan…..
……to tell us that this was the best restaurant they have ever been to in the city. Quite right too. Though rather dark, and with music a little too loud, it nevertheless served rather good food very well, with great staff and efficient service. My soft-shelled crab was delicious, and with a very large glass of champagne, it certainly hit the spot. Though not crowded, it was clearly popular. Having had too many bad steaks and heavy-duty pizza on previous visits to the city, I took the advice of ‘The New York Times’ 10 best restaurants in Chicago, and hit upon a real gem.

Brindille pronounced "Braun-DEE", translates to "new growth" in French with a woman chef at the helm! We like a woman chef! This spot is exquisite and elegant but also inviting. It's perfect for a romantic dinner or special celebration. It's adorned with black and white art, dark with intimate lighting. The attentive staff ensures a top notch dining experience. We ordered the iced oysters to start things off. The feuillete is an elegant light biscuit stuffed with mushrooms and spinach. It was delightful. The gem salad was fresh and a perfect addition. We finished with the scallops and fries. This is a huge helping of shoe strong fries served with mayonnaise which is superior! Love the story. Loved the restaurant. Loved the food.

We join several other reviewers who found the food good, not great, and wildly overpriced. The busboys were attentive. The waiter was not. Following Simone Beck's counsel, we paid the bill but we most definitely won't return.

The owner wants an upscale/fine dining vibe.
But the presentation of food didn't meet the expectation. Extremely overpriced.
Had dinner recently and can only provide my highest
Had dinner recently and can only provide my highest recommendation. Was is town for the Union Grand Cru Bordeaux tasting. Michael was fantastic host. The wine list is under construction, but Michael was outstanding in directing us to great selections. The food was fantastic. It is not surprising that these owners had a Michelin star in their history. Sole was outstanding as were all starters. It was restaurant week so did not see the entire menu, but I look forward to the return. Thank you to the staff for a very enjoyable evening.
Delicious meal in a uniquely beautiful restaurant. Great for conversation.
The restaurant is comfortable and beautiful. It’s elegant and relaxing. Great for conversation because it’s not loud. The service is skillful and attentive. The food has been perfect, delicious, and truly a treat.
Dinner was wonderful! I think Brindille is the best
Dinner was wonderful! I think Brindille is the best restaurant in Chicago. The food is so creative and innovative, for instance the jelly cubes on the foie mousse that provide a whimsical contrast of texture and flavor. And it's clear that the chefs are also able to execute the best of timeless French techniques. Treat yourself to Brindille!
We were there for Restaurant Week and came away
We were there for Restaurant Week and came away disappointed. Here's the bullets: - We had a really friendly, but worthless, waiter. He showed up with menus, then mid-meal to do a quick check and then to give us the bill (in two hours...) We didn't even get a chance to order cocktails. We waited forever just to get the bill. Super disappointing for such an expensive meal. - All the work was done by the busboys. They kept our water filled and plates cleared but we couldn't order anything from them. - The food was pretty good, but not great. We didn't walk away talking about the food at all. All we could discuss was the waiter and his lack of attention. I mean, where was he for two hours? What was he spending his time doing? We had so many questions. - It was a really expensive meal. For five of us, we spent almost $700, without being able to order cocktails. The dinner rolls were $35. That's usually something that's brought to the table for free. My desert was an extra $18 on top of the "Restaurant Week bundle." There was an automatic 25% tip added with no option to modify it. Oddly, it wasn't even called a tip. It had some other weird name. I don't mind paying $125 a head for a really good meal with great service, but this visit was not what we were hoping for. Won't be going back as there's way too many other great restaurants in Chicago.
Not sure why this place doesn't have a five star average.
Dined last week and it was phenomenal. Probably one of the best meals and experiences I have ever had. Server was helpful, attentive, and efficient. Kitchen was accommodating to allergy requests. Can't wait to return and will tell everyone who will listen.
This is the best dinner we've had in a while.
It was a perfect NYE experience with squash soup and roast duck and the waiter recommended the best wine, which complemented the meal. Loved it & will be back!
Excellent experience
Brindille has an unassuming exterior, right next to a run-of-the-mill Irish pub of some sort, but once you enter inside, you are in the mecca of deliciousness (aka French food). Our first experience with Brindille was top-of-the-class from the get-go, when reservations were made via email. Carrie Nahabegan, the co-owner, and executive chef made sure we had our reservations lined up before we came to visit Chicago. But nothing could prepare us for the delight of dining at Brindille once we stepped through the doors. The staff was extremely friendly, making us feel right at home; wine and drinks exceeded our expectations in every way, but the real star of the evening was the food. I can honestly say that what we had at Brindille in Chicago surpassed all other French restaurants I have been to – including in France! Can’t recommend enough. Thank you for one of the best experiences.
Food took FOREVER to come out.
We were there for 3 hours, and not because we wanted to be. The food was over salted and not very tasty. I told the server I was sober, but he still asked me if i wanted wine (twice) and then served me ice cream that had brandy in it without thinking to give me a heads up. Good thing I looked up the ingredients myself....
Everything at this restaurant was fabulous!! The
Everything at this restaurant was fabulous!! The atmosphere had that cozy, yet still modern city feel. My husband and I came for our anniversary, and it was an excellent choice. We ordered the lamb and scallops dishes, and the combination of flavors were perfect for both. The wines we had that our waiter suggested were perfect for our dishes, and his service was outstanding! Just writing this review is triggering a craving to return to this restaurant!!!
The most rude service I’ve seen in 30 years
Shockingly rude service. Uneven food quality. Very expensive. A dinner for six celebrating my father-in-law’s 90th birthday. In my 30 years dining around the world, I’ve yet to encounter a waiter as rude. Like jaw-droppingly rude. If management is reading this, he’s the waiter who looks like James Carville - bald with a soul patch. Host at the front was also inhospitable. For the amount of money this place costs, and the fact that the food is uneven in quality with terrible timing between courses (we arrived at 6:30 - our mains didn’t arrive until after 8), and considering the rudeness of the service, I’d recommend staying away.
Fabulous meal in every way
Fabulous restaurant! This meal was divine—from watermelon tomato gazpacho to the savory tarte Tatin to the duck and coupe dessert. That atmosphere is also not too loud, comfortable seating, not on top of each other and I can’t say enough good things about the service. Our server, Evan was absolutely top notch. An excellent meal and experience!
Great French Find
Great meal and service at this quiet French restaurant just off the busy Clark Street entertainment block. Surprised it was not busier on a Friday night. We enjoyed the duck and the scallops plus the beer salad. Everything was fantastic. And after go to the Blues Bar next door…awesome time
