We revisited Buddha bar Mykonos during our most recent trip to the island. Due to having allergies to both gluten and dairy it can be difficult to get food that suits my diet in Greece and this often means sending emails prior to arrival to verify menu items etc. one major fault I have is that there is no allergen menu, living in the UK this is something that we have and os mandatory. Despite numerous emails/Instagram messages and phone calls we were told that we just need to tell the waiting staff about allergies and they will inform chef. It was impossible to speak to kitchen staff or get a consistent response on my options. I asked specifically could I have satay chicken and Thai green curry, I was told I could have this. I was also told that there was an option for GF soy sauce. Due to the min spend of €240 I wanted to ensure a menu that I liked before arriving. On the night we arrived I placed my order that I was told was suitable for me, however was then told I can’t have satay as it was marinated in regular soy sauce(which contains gluten) and no option to adapt this for me. I had Thai green curry for main but was disappointed to find only chicken in scant quantities, 3 small chunks of sweet potato, regular potato (inedible as completely raw)and red chilli - no peppers, mangetout, bamboo shoots, onions etc, this is unusual for a Thai curry and at a price of over €40 per person seems unacceptable. Buddha bar- for a ‘5 star ‘ hotel and restaurant you need to get up to speed with allergens and update your menu to include allergens so customers can feel safe dining here. There is much better quality food for the price in Mykonos, apart from the view the service and food falls short!!
