Delish Burmese food.
Wish their tea leaf salad was bigger, but definitely a must get when coming here. If you like pork belly get their sliced pork belly with mustard greens. Really good.

No. of Visits : 1 This has been a very popular name thrown around for a long time and we finally took the bait. It has a devoted following. The tea leaf salad and the coconut soup are big favorites in general and rightly so, but most dishes we had were decent but not great by any means. Waits can be long, and while the experience is good, the hype might be just a tad too much! Go with fair expectations and you will enjoy a nice meal! *For reference, my palette is native South Indian, used to spice levels of about 8/10 in most Thai Restaurants.

They do provide a stand with hot tea while waiting in the queue. We stood in line before open and were seated pretty quickly in the first round of tables. There is one bathroom stall and there was a line that is in centerish of the restaurant. Kind of odd, wanted to point that out. I don't typically like eating lamb, but the chili lamb was pretty delish. The papaya tea leaf salad is so good! Highly recommend. It's crunchy and I love how they mix it tableside. There are so many delicious little nuggets of flavor in there. Coconut rice is the best. You gotta try it if you like coconut!

AMAZINGGGG FOOD!!!!! This place is always packed, because it soo good! So there is always a 15-30 min wait. My favorite things that I probably order every single time is 1. Chili Lamb (main course) 2. Side of coconut rice 3. Tea Leaf Salad (app) 4. Plathas (app) I always bring family visiting from out of town here and it's always a hit!!

One of my all-time favorite restaurants in the city! It never disappoints and I always leave feeling so satisfied. Plus, the leftovers keep really well :) I love the firecracker chicken or tofu in particular, and the tea leaf and rainbow salads are killer. B Sprouts are a classic appetizer and I definitely recommend these. The service is really nice, and they always have a really delicious black tea available outside if there is a wait. It's a beautiful restaurant and I love sitting outside in the parklet when the weather is nice.

I had never tried Burmese food before I moved to San Francisco and boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. Burmese food has since become one of my favorite cuisines. I truly feel like it's a fusion between Indian food and Indonesian food. I ordered the platha and dip, the tea leaf salad, the fiery lamb, and the fiery chicken. Each dish was amazing. The flavors were on point especially the fiery lamb. It was spicy and flavorful and cooked to perfection. I also really love the tea leaf salad. I had never tried anything like that. It was such a unique take on a salad and it was so so good I highly recommend the tea leaf salad for anyone who goes to try Burmese food. Our service was also pretty fast once we got seated. However, I will say there was a little bit of a wait and I think this place is so popular that there will usually be a little bit of a wait. I also really liked the ambiance of the place inside and outside they have plenty of seating and you can choose where you want to sit if it's not too crowded.

The tea leaf salad was scrumptious! Definitely a must try.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our faves in the area! Pricey but good.
It's famous for Burmese food but I feel like there's better places. We really like their tea leaf salad and their coconut noodle soup. Their sticky ribs were great, super flavorful and sweet. My husband got the spicy crispy chicken and was a bit disappointed since it wasn't what he was expecting. It was saucy and breaded, which resembled orange chicken. Felt like we could've went to Panda Express instead.

Went back to check it out with High Hopes and to be honest expectations based on my love for them. First discover them in the mid 2000s. Well yeah, it was horrible. The service was horrible. The prices were horrible. The weight was horrible and the food was horrible. Such a bummer don't waste your time.

servers were great, and gave lots of recommendations since it was our first time. even people around us gave us recommendation LOL all the spices and flavors were new to us, but still easy to eat and delicious. the tea leaf salad was our favorite! overall would come back to try more dishes!

Best dining experience-- outdoor seating, kind waiters, and incredible food. I ordered the tea leaf salad, samusas, lamb curry, superstar shrimp and three flowers celebration as tea. I would not pass on the samusas, lamb curry or the tea. All three were so so SO good, and joined the clean plate/teapot club. The curry was absolutely the best lamb I've ever had, and the flavor was fresh and rich at the same time. And the tea!! So fragrant and comforting. We finished 3 pots with dinner. I will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyThis Burmese restaurant is super popular in sf.
We came here on a weekday night and there's still a long wait, waited 40 mins get in for a group or 4. The host was super attentive to us as we waited and kept us updated about the seating and even remembered our names. Once we were seated we were immediately able to order. We ordered a tea leaf salad, chili lamb, superstar shrimp, basil pork belly, nan gyi dok and a black rice pudding for dessert. The food tends to have a sweet spicy contrasting flavor to it which was good. The favorite was the black sesame rice pudding. For the other dishes the chili lamb and the superstar shrimp were good, the pork belly had a kick to it. The nan gyi dok was the only dish that was lighter in flavor. Everything else had some spice or other flavors. We also got some coconut rice and regular rice. The coconut rice is a must to eat with the meal. Overall, I think this restaurant serves good Burmese food.

first time to Burma superstar in Clement! The week was kind of weird! What had happened was the host didn't plan on sealing our group of nine, but only plan for only a certain amount I forget what it was.We had to wait outside not sure where to wait, there was hot jasmine tea by the outdoor dining stalls. After a few minutes, they finally combined and tables and seated us.A few of the pictures attached in this review are the sticky fingers, sesame chicken, which was the chicken version of the Sticky Fingers, the tea, leaf salad and we had a bunch of other options that we're not pictured here.I love the mango shrimp, but the garlic shrimp was too garlicky! I also enjoyed the ginger lemonade, which was not too gingeryMy cousin got a eggplant, tofu dish. It was also pretty good, and I think we got this noodle dish that was not bad for what it was. I did see a last minute walk in, and it sucks that they were rushing the guy to make a selection before the kitchen could closeI also like that the bathroom had a green light for open usage and a red light for occupied use.All in all fabulous experience, just some recommendations, even though we came in at closing
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, friendly staff when you are waiting in line.
They serve hot tea as you wait for a table. Seating area is well spaced for such a limited area.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for lunch during my break.
They definitely have large food portions, which is a major plus! The mango lassi had a strong mango flavor and was absolutely delicious. I would recommend jasmine rice with the main dish. The service was excellent, as you can tell that the servers care about your food experience. The restaurant itself was super busy for a lunch on a Wednesday and I thought that to be a good sign. Overall, the only con is that I believe the food could use a little more flavor and wasn't spicy enough. Would definitely come back!

I love burmese food especially Tea Leaf Salad and this is the best I've tasted in the bay area. Located in the "New" Chinatown area where there are many enticing eateries, shops and bakeries, this is a must stop for lunch of dinner. We were a party of 4 and wanted to share our dishes so we could try many dishes. We ordered the small size of 4 dishes and was so full - even had to take home some food. If ordering rice, one order can easily feed 2 or 4 people. Portions are generous and service is fast and friendly!

Not my first time at Burma Superstar, but it was for my fiancรฉe, and it never disappoints. We got the rainbow salad, samusa soup, and the nan gyi dok. Amazing service as always and we didn't have to wait too long. Started with Thai iced tea for a pick me up. Everything came out promptly. A big surprise to me was the samusa soup, it was very hearty, earthy, warming, and full of flavor. The rainbow salad was a sharp contrast to it with its brightness, array of textures from the noodles, papaya, and toppings. The tamarind dressing is delicious. Lastly the Nan Gyi Dok. It was tasty, but probably my least favorite dish of them all. Nothing really stood out from it, but we had no leftovers so that speaks for itself. BS is always a must to stop at when you're in the area. You won't regret it
Be the first to ReplyFabulous always.
Tea leaf salad, mint chicken, curry dishes, coconut rice...it's all delicious. Just be prepared to wait for a table.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was excellent, the food was delicious.
I was with a group of 7 and we ordered lots of dishes. I can't Remember the names, but everything was good. Be adventurous and try something new. Ciao

The line is worth the wait!! I would suggest come early bc the line starts before opening. I recommend the tea leaf salad. So healthy, crunchy, and satisfying to eat with all the toppings. I like how most their curries can be for most of the meat/plant options. Be sure to add rice! One portion is one cup so my group had to order more which is no problem.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Sunday dinner for 2.
Came at 5:30pm cuz I heard the lines and wait can get really long. We had a 30min wait and we're seated by 6pm. Service was quick and everyone was friendly. We started with Plathas and curry sauce. 5/5!! Similar to Indian parathas. We also got the coconut rice with the Chilli lamb 5/5. A little spicy with a lot of flavor! Also got the Nan Gyi Dok 4/5 it was a chicken noodle dish. Not really spicy so added some extra chilli paste/sauce to it, and it gave it more of a kick! Overall good food! Would definitely come back!!

I've heard about this restaurant for a while and was finally glad I was able to try it on a recent trip to SF. This restaurant is located near Downtown SF and authentic Burmese food is served. As this was my first time and I went with family, we ordered quite a few dishes! Chicken Samosas (3pc for $11) Deep fried, handwrapped samosas with curry spices, potatoes, chicken, served with a dipping sauceDuck Garlic Noodles ($13) These were my favorite! Garlic chili noodles served with duck, egg, and broccoliFiery Chicken with Vegetables ($17) Eggplant with Garlic Sauce ($17)Burmese Style Curry with Lamb ($18)Side of Coconut Rice ($4)

Whenever I'm craving a unique Asian dish, my first thought is to go to Burma. Grab your friends or family because it's the perfect place to do family style because of their large dishes. Plus, their tea-leaf salad is to die for! Please give it a try if you want to try something different. The fermented leaves add to the savoriness and it's loaded with a bunch of textures from soft to crunchy. The service was also amazing, all of the waiters were nice, attentive, and not afraid to give you advice on what to order!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely the premier of all the Burma locations.
Maybe because it's the original, but there's a nuanced difference when you go to the other locations. Really good food, fairly priced. Always come back here.
