Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Came here for dinner.
We shared many things. We had the potato tortilla which was good. We also had patatas bravas which honestly could have been more crispy and hot. The chicken empanada was very good and so were the ham croquettes. We also ordered the hangar steak and we were surprised at how small the portion size was. The restaurant is bigger than I expected but very busy. Our service was excellent.

I was here this past weekend with my fiancรฉ as we wanted to try it since he heard such good things about it from a coworker. We ordered an assortment of dishes (as you're meant to do since it is tapas) and unfortunately nothing stood out. I love trying out restaurants I've never been to before and I have zero issue going to places and having a pricey meal as I know that there are a lot of costs within restaurants-- I've been working in them for years. But you feel a lot less inclined to return to a place that resulted in a high bill when the food leaves you unsatisfied. Everything in general lacked salt and nothing that was supposed to be crispy was crispy-- patatas bravas and the peri peri chicken were both kind of soggy even though we got them right as they were ready because they were hot. The chicken was also way too acidic; it would be okay if the shredded vegetables next to it were maybe tossed with the yogurt mix rather than the chicken just sitting on top of all the yogurt, that way they can all be eaten together easily. We also got the fried shishito peppers, which were very good but confused at the naming because they were clearly charred on a grill or in the oven to get blistered so the naming of things on the menu is confusing as well. The beef tenderloin was good but honestly it wasn't amazing and worth coming back for. Overall, the staff were fantastic, attentive, and sweet, the thing that fell short was the food which was disappointing because that's what you go to a restaurant for.

I can't even give enough accolades to Santiago and the whole team at Baba! Everything was delicious and the service was perfect! We were so happy and we had a best night ever! Top notch, tapas restaurant!
This outstanding Spanish tapas restaurant has not skipped the beat over 30 years. The tapas were outstanding. We have the paella mixtas which fantastic and with very generous portions. The service was very attentive. Restaurant still has a great vibe.

Needed to post this more as a PSA than anything else.
Do not dine here. Two shocking things happened when I had a birthday meal with a friend last week. First, they accidentally delivered two deviled eggs when I only ordered one. Not a big deal - looked to flag down my waiter to let them know but before I could do that, the guy came back and grabbed the wrong order off the table saying he made a mistake and promptly delivered the dish =directly to another table=. That dish was as at my table for a nontrivial amount of time and I'm pretty sure you shouldn't serve it to another table at that point. Eww. The second shocking thing was around the Striped Bass. Each dish has a picture online so you can see what you're ordering. The dish showed up at the table matching the photo beautifully except for one interesting detail. It wasn't striped bass. It was a cheaper smaller fish. When I flagged the waiter on the mistake he immediately whisked the fish away and returned the dish with the actual Bass. And then tried to say it was a mix-up with another dish on the menu except no other dish looks like that one and the original fish served =wasn't even on the menu=. Seriously wtf. So between the obvious health code violation and the bait-and-switch that was attempted on one of the dishes, I think it's fair to say that this place really should be avoided.
Wow, what a find! The prices are unbeatable.
We tried the tomato goat cheese dip (out of this world), chicken skewers (pretty standard fare), and the patatas bravas (fantastic). We also shared a pitcher of guava sangria, a special for the month, which was infused with tequila - absolutely refreshing. Just two cups in, and I was already feeling the buzz.
Delicious! It's a great ambiance and I love the energy here.
I would recommend the paella.
We had been here years ago for a wedding rehearsal dinner.
I decided to take my husband back and it did not disappoint. We went for happy hour and were lucky enough to get a table at 5pm. We had a reservation and the hostess let us know if we found a spot and were happy with having dinner there that was fine and would change our reservation. We forgot to tell her and she found us and asked if we were all good before changing the reservation which was great. The servers were all kind in serving us and trying to find us a spot to sit. The food was so good! We did the happy hour tapas and ordered 2 of most everything on the menu. Our favorites were the roasted peppers and the Crystal bread. It was decorated perfectly inside. With murals on the walls and intimate lighting. Would recommend.
Solid Spanish food
Went for an early dinner on a Friday. Was amazed by how packed it was at 5:15pm! We were seated (with reservation) right away. Bigger restaurant than what it appears to be from the facade; several rooms of tables and bars. Tapas. Menu accessed via QR code (not my favorite) and has photos of each dish. Four people were satiated by ordering 2 dishes each. Nice mix on the menu of vegetables, fish, chicken, and beef. Food was delivered in phases and was tasty. Nothing crazy original, but solid Spanish cuisine. Favorites were the chickpea stew, the canned tuna (beautiful presentation), the bacon-wrapped dates, and the octopus. Service was attentive and fast. Main server was friendly. Noisy and convivial atmosphere. Real mix of people (at least early), from dates to happy hour crowd to families.

Our family came her to celebrate my birthday, only 2 of the 5 of us, had been here before. We had a reservation for 9 pm, got there early, and found seats at the bar. The bartender was very kind and gave us each a taste of the sangria special flavor, which was pineapple. 2 of us ordered the sangria flight, which included 4 types of sangria. 2 of us ordered a Spanish wine flight, 3 glasses of red wine (or white). There was also an old fashioned, which was strong and very good. We were sat at a large table. It was my first time trying tapas, which are small plates of various foods. We tried a bunch of items, including -Chorizo wrapped dates -Baked goat cheese in tomato sauce, plus extra garlic bread -Bikini sandwiches -Chicken empanadas -Beef empanadas -Hanger steak -Scallop special -Iberica Presa special -Large mixture paella (5 large portions) -Chocolate truffle dessert All of the items we tried were delicious, I can't decide which was my favorite, but many thought the date wrapped in Chorizo( you can eat just 1 and be satisfied) was their favorite, another favorite was the Scallop special and the bikini sandwich. The Hanger steak and Iberico pork were cooked perfectly. The empanadas were delicious and fresh. The goat cheese in tomato sauce w/ garlic bread was delicious. We also ordered the large mixed paella, with Chorizo and chicken. It was delicious and plentiful, it was served from the pan tableside. For dessert, we had 2 chocolate truffle "cakes" and our server, Vincente, brought a flan for my birthday. Vincente was very nice and attentive. I would definitely come back again when I'm in town!

Wedding Catering Vegan Vegetarian menu
We had to choose from a handful of caterers for our wedding on the First Lady Cruises downtown chicago. Each one had no idea how to create a vegan menu. Except Cafe Babareba. And they knocked it out of the park! Super deicious food the customized for us and the best staff you could imagine!! We brought our own cake and they set it up and served it. Everything was beautiful, delicious and professionally presesnted and served. Can't say enough great things about everyone including our coordinator - Emily . Five stars for everyone
