What a horrible dining experience! After traveling all over Italy and having nothing but wonderful food experiences, we were excited to spend our last night dining at this restaurant in Milan. The restaurant looked nice and we were expecting to love the food. Unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed. The food here is visually boring and tastes as exciting as school cafeteria food- the kind of food that makes you wonder what you can possibly add to it to make it taste better. I had the octopus and onion appetizer (Polipo in Saor). The colors of the octopus and onion melded into an unexciting "blah" that mirrored the taste. It was not awful, but it was not exciting either. My husband ordered the mushroom appetizer because it featured a mushroom that he particularly likes (ovulo mushroom). Unfortunately, it was literally a pile of sliced raw mushrooms with Parmesan cheese shaved on top- so disappointing, nothing to enhance the taste and a big waste of a wonderful mushroom. My dish was a fish and potato specialty- the presentation resembled something that you would feed a cat as it was pieces of white fish tossed with boiled potatoes. It was basically overpriced cafeteria food (I would have loved to add something...ANYTHING to liven up the dish). So why am I only giving them one star when this review so far may warrant at least two? Because my husband, who was born and raised in Italy (so he knows his pasta), ordered a simple pasta dish (cacio e pepe)and his pasta was not fully cooked. It was hard (not al dente- but almost crunchy-hard). How does a high-end restaurant in Italy not know how to cook pasta? As we walked back to our hotel, very disappointed in our meal, we stopped to buy a pizza for our teen sons who opted to stay in their room and lamented the fact that we did not choose to just eat a pizza with them because that would have been a much better meal.
