Someone said Perfection?
I took my cousin who was visiting from Buenos Aires, Argentina to show off with my favorite Argentine steakhouse, the Best in LA, on Sept. 21. Staff was attentive and friendly from the amazing host to the great servers. We had the burrata and prosciutto entré which was melting in our mouths. Then we had the recommended incredible Tapa de Ojo and Skirtsteak seasoned and cooked to perfection with the signature Papas Fritas provenzal and my favorite De La Casa salad. All sides are delicious and desserts are all made in-house with love. Amazing service as always, romantic ambiance. Brothers Max, the Sommelier, and Gerard the Executive Chef gave us the best recommendations. We ended the meal with the famous and decadent Postre Gardel and specialty coffees. Returned for dinner two days ago with my great friend visiting from Chile. Same unforgettable experience!

Our check was over $300 for two people, was it worth it? Absolutely not. Genuinely confused how this place has 4+ stars which brought us in. Service was subpar. 18% gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY added to ALL checks. Terrible service? Doesn't matter, they are getting 18% tip. We ordered the platter ($150), most of the meat was tasty; however, at this price, you'd be better off going to Fogo de Chao, you will get more meat for less price and way better service. Overall this place is nothing special, service was subpar. We had to try several times to get our waiters attention. Bar man initially refused to give us 3 tastings to taste the wines before ordering. I have many Argentinian friends and they are all kind, friendly people. Really not sure why this place doesn't have the same culture and vibe. Will not be returning and recommend you don't go as well.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced but good food
We were really looking forward to an amazing Argentinian steak. Steak was very good, the rest was just average and way way overpriced. 2 of us had the gnocchi which were fine. 1 had the chimichurri crusted rib steak (delicious) 2 had the wagyu short rib which was much smaller than expected but very good. As in other reviews the bill was just messy and handwritten so it was difficult to figured out but it was quite exaggerated. They charge 12$ per bottle of water so we were upset to have dropped 50$ on water!! I wouldn’t do it again, have been to better steakhouses where I didn’t feel taken advantage of.

Carlitos Gardel is on Melrose which is a busy street, so make time for the drive so you can get there at your reservation time, and make reservations. The food is very expensive as is the wine, so maybe save for a special occasion. We found the prices to be worth it for the food and way too high for the wine. The place itself is very cute. It is not super fancy, it is just very pretty. You may wait a minute or 5 to be seated, with reservations, but you will be happy you waited. Once seated we found the service to be super good. The sommelier was just a little too special acting for me, but he did offer a great selection, but the pricing was too high. But the wine was great. We love their empanadas, and you can get those as an appetizer. Next time I will be eating nothing but them and a lot of them. They are that good. The filet we ordered was cooked rare, exactly as we wanted and it came with fresh and super tasty asparagus. We also had mashed potatoes which were amazing. Their New York Steak was splendid. You will love it. Everything there is great. I don't think they allow a bad item out of the kitchen. The service was very nice and over all we had a great time. Have fun.
Be the first to ReplyFood good. Service, attitude and value were not.
I really wanted to love this place. The service was okay. The sommelier was snooty, the waiter was abrupt and the prices were very high given the quality of the food. There were six of us there and we ordered two bottles of wine and had expected the bill to be around $600, but when it came it was $780 and was handled the VERY old fashioned way with menu items scribbbled down in shorthand on the back of tickets with prices - making it really difficult to reconcile what was ordered with the bill. We all could not get around the overwhelming sense that we were being a bit bamboozled. I want to be clear that we did not ask for further clarification from the wait staff on all the charges - mainly because we had to be somewhere and our server was so distracted and flustered we just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Overall, the food was good, but we left with a bad taste in our mouths.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food! Pricey too!
This is a really unassuming little place nestled between a photography place and a lingerie shop, and truly a treasure! We made reservations for their patio and could not walk through the front to get to it, it's an entirely separate entrance in the back alleyway. It certainly looks much bigger in pictures than it really is! I came for my birthday with my husband and our six-year-old daughter and we really loved everything, though the service took some warming up to and could be improved. Just not very friendly. We had an empanada appetizer, steak for two, a side of spinach and a vegi corn medley, plus a bottle of Terrazas de los Andes (a cab), with a bill total of around $340. But it was worth it - food is cooked to perfection here and I highly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyWent for the meat, got surprised by the pasta!
I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by how much I loved the empanada. What did surprise me was how much I liked the pastas. I had a pre-fixed meal with a mix of pastas, mushrooms, and yes, meat. Lot's of meat. The New York Steak with the highlight of the meat items for me. We brought our own wine, but if I were to go back, I'd definitely take advantage of their array of imported Argentine wines. The wine room was pretty cool too. I'm sorry to say I had never tried this gem before last week. I need to go back. Soon. This place kind of spoiled me for other restaurants because the service was so good. What a pleasure.

Just had a prix fix Valentine’s Day dinner. It was wonderful. A little pricey but we knew that going in. Lovely candlit atmosphere. Valet parking curbside. Friendly wait staff and not too noisy.
