Wandering around Silver Lake after Dana and I canceled our
Wandering around Silver Lake after Dana and I canceled our reservation at Tsubaki. We made reservations, but they didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in. Said all their inside tables were taken and we didn't feel comfortable sitting outside on the curb w/ a small table. I usually order quite a lot of food. They just weren't accommodating towards us, so we walked out and headed down Sunset. We were so glad we did or we wouldn't have stumbled upon this spot. Luckily they gave us a walk-in because they were booked with reservations. I'm so glad we had the outdoor seating because their back eating area was so calm and relaxing. A lot of plants and the sun peaking in was just right. Inside was a bit loud for us and we only noticed once we finished eating and was on the way out. This little spot was a Peruvian & Japanese fusion. At first I was a bit skeptical, but D really wanted to check it out, so we tried majority of their recommendations except the lobster dumplings, which I wanted to try, but D was already thinking we ordered too much. Their octopus was phenomenal and so was their clams. We really enjoyed those. I liked their mussel ceviche a lot more than D did. Their version of Nigiri was decent. They replaced their rice with masa, which is like a cornmeal that you find in tamales. I did enjoy it, but their tomato one stood out for me. Their toro sashimi was ok for me. Maybe because I'm expecting something more in the line of sushi. Don't get me wrong, quality was good, just for the vibe and the food we ordered, it didn't fit. D got the soba noodles, which she sort of devoured, but it felt like it was missing a dipping sauce. Tasted like peanut butter and mint to me. I'm sure those were within the ingredients I really enjoyed their sea bass tamale that D didn't like at all. Truth be told, it was a bit strange because we picked it piece by piece, but once everything was eaten together, I killed it. Immediately, I was like, "Soba is yours, and the fish is mine" The thing that really topped it off was their dessert. I'm not a sweet tooth guy at all, but that yuzu sorbet. Bruh. Just get it.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed with the flavor .
We ordered the Ceviche Peruano and it was lacking either salt or more lemon . It was bland. If you want better by far ceviche Peruano that isn't overpriced btw , try Higo Chicken in La Habra. Then we ordered the Lomo Saltado, it's the first place that I see serves it with roasted potatoes instead of fries . Which is not bad , but the steak was soo hard to chew on. Perhaps your chef can marinate the meat better so it's not so hard to chew. My husband liked the drinks he ordered . I on the other hand wasn't impressed . FYI , the bill was over $400 for a group of 4 in case you feel like splurging on Sunset Blvd in Silverlake . Oh and the space sitting down is a tight squeeze .

GOOD+ Octopus! Potatoes!+ Cute casual but nice place+ Nice patioMEH- Loud inside - might not be good for dates indoors- Would have liked to see more fusion between Peruvian and Japanese food. Many of the dishes were separate versus fused together - Parking in this area always sucks
Be the first to ReplyI'm Japanese myself and didn't really find what's Nikkei
I'm Japanese myself and didn't really find what's Nikkei Peruvian about their food. They were very LA food with bunch of Japanese ingredients names on menu. The fried rice was average. Portion was TINY. I was really hungry in the end. Octopus dish was weak. Lobster dumplings were my favorite. Chocolate mousse was slimy and weird. Our server Amy was nice but service overall was slow. The restarant had a great vibe. I won't be returning. One time was enough.

Loved the unique take on Peruvian dishes by adding Japanese influences. The clams and ceviche were really good, and my favorite was the udon. Sea bass tamale was very tasty too. We also ordered some cocktails, which were flavorful and unique! The gnocchi was good but not my favorite. Overall, enjoyed the vibe nonetheless and would come back for a special occasion.

The service and ambiance was great and the food was good just think something was missing probably because my own food palette. I like more lemon or lime and salt. It was good though! The drink was perfect. Perfect date spot!
Be the first to ReplyI really enjoyed the ambiance and food here.
The Cesar salad will surprise you. Probably my favorite in the city. Everything I tried was very good. I can't wait to come back. Also the service was great.

Oh my, Causita was deeeelicious! Parking can definitely be a hassle but they do offer valet right up front.Upon walking in, you'll find yourself enveloped in a dark and cozy, yet vibrant atmosphere. The service is really top notch. Everybody was super attentive and friendly, making sure we were well taken care of.We started off with the prickly pear cocktail and it was fantastic! Comes in a giant glass and the presentation + taste are on point. Then onto the food... yum! The prices are on the higher end, but the quality is really great. Everything was scrumptious. We decided to go with a couple of their top dishes and they did not disappoint. I highly recommend the grilled octopus and mixed ceviche! The seafood was very fresh and just melts in your mouth. I've never had octopus as tender as this one. The lomo saltado had great flavor but this was actually my least favorite dish as I wasn't the biggest fan of the cut of meat. It was a bit chewier than I was expecting. The crispy rice was also very good, but the grilled octopus and mixed ceviche stole the show for me.Would definitely come back again!
Be the first to ReplyI came in for brunch and really enjoyed myself! The food
I came in for brunch and really enjoyed myself! The food was good, the vibes were immaculate, and the service was spot on. Oysters: the oysters were cold and fresh! That's legit the first thing I care about and they hit the mark. The mignonette provided was a good accompaniment. Yogurt & Granola: I only liked this dish once I added the honey syrup on the side. It was good, but honestly, a very scrimpy amount for the price paid. I'd skip this on another visit. Steak & Eggs: this was really solid! Loved the flavors and it was all balanced. Would for sure get this again. I don't recall the exact flavors of the margarita, but it was decent as well. All in all, I would go back to try other things!
Be the first to ReplyGreat date night spot - vibes are high and food is great.
We ordered:1. Caustia Nikkei - essentially potato based nigiri, very interesting but probably wouldn't get this again2. Gnocchi - fried cheese, insane, would order again3. Spicy peas - best appetizer we ordered, spicy savory sauce and the peas were sweet and snappy4. Crispy rice - hands down best item we ordered, the dish is cooked table side. First they sear the steak (not really a tartar), then eggs are added, and everything is mixed on a hot plate. Final dish is smoky and savory with crunchy rice bits and fatty pieces of steak and egg. 5. Lomo saltado - solid steak dish, meat was tender and potatoes could soak up all the juice. Tomatoes were the underrated star of the dish that popped immediately in your mouth.

Quite a pain to find parking, but worth every penny! Causita is one of my favorite fusion places in the Silverlake area, serving a concoction of Japanese and Peruvian fusion food. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and beautiful, although a little loud during the night. Not a single dish was disappointing, and the highlights were definitely the desserts, especially the jelly cake! It's so special, and yet bold, flavorful, and also reminds me of desserts I've had in Asia. Otherwise, the most unique and favorite dishes of the night I've had were: Udon noodles: I love that they use Udon as a pasta dish, and more restaurants are including it in Western cuisine. Love the pesto flavor with the abundance of Parmesan :) Calamari: Really love the mix of fried and raw seafood in this dish! It's light, refreshing, and flavorful. I would recommend this, and try to find street parking as valet is not cheap!
