Terrific steaks! Beware of ordering their "bucket list"
Terrific steaks! Beware of ordering their "bucket list" glasses of wibe-even though they use the best per glass storage technology available, wine seemed a bit off. Otherwise was a wonderful experience (and the house cab is excellent).
Be the first to ReplyThis classy, upscale restaurant inside the Charleston Place
This classy, upscale restaurant inside the Charleston Place Hotel is one of the best spots in the city for a romantic dinner, with elegant decor, a reserved ambiance, and live jazz playing softly in the background. And the food is equally compelling -- on a recent visit, my wife and I started with a delicious Lump Crab Cake before diving into fabulous dishes of Seared Scallops and Loin of Lamb. The quality of the food was outstanding, but service was a bit slow and the Old Fashioned I ordered with dinner was more than a little disappointing. But aside from a few quibbles, Charleston Grill delivers when it comes to serving up wonderful Low Country cuisine in a gorgeous setting that's perfect for making memories with that Special Someone -- or even with someone who's not that special. Recommended.

I was not prepared and my phone died so I was not able to capture any photos. If you're able to, make reservations so you're not hoping you can get in. Beautiful place to enjoy a nice meal for any occasion. It is open and airy, almost a little romantic in my opinion. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Vietnamese pork, seared scallops and beef tartar. All was delicious and prepared well. This is a more expensive place but the experience is worth it, especially if you don't live in the area. Located in historic downtown so you can take a nice walk afterwards. I really wished I had photos but guess I'll save it for next time!

Food was good, but had other meals over the extended weekend at other local restaurants that were as good or better for less money. This price point demands top shelf food and service. It fell short of 5 stars. Flounder was dry, drinks were supposed to be comped but weren't.
Be the first to ReplyA memorable meal & dining experience.
Snazzy jazz in the background. Drew took very good care of us & we will return on our next adventure to Charleston!

The best restaurant I have ever been to in my life (on any continent). From the food (I will dream of the scallops I had) to the service (absolutely incredible waitstaff, hostesses, and host), I could not dream of a better restaurant. Each dish had so many layers that felt like they were individually nurtured. We were only visiting for a few days, and ended up coming here twice, and it was worth every bit of the money. Could not recommend this restaurant anymore.
Be the first to ReplyWe had our date night at Charleston Grill last week.
We haven't been to this restaurant for quite a while. And this place offer a fine dining experience. We had early dinner reservation which was at 5:45 pm. Our waiter, James, was knowledgeable with the menu, very attentive with our needs and he had another server that came and help him that night, Sasha, and she was very sweet and always made sure our water refilled and our table and food deliver promptly. For starter, we had yellowfin tuna nicoise and it was amazing! It seared both sides with seasalt and the nicoise sauce was so good! Our waiter brought us crab cake as a compliment for our table and it was fantastic! Its a good size of crab meat with vierge sauce and caper, my favorite. Sasha brought us the sour bread and herb bread to our table and a small sauce plate with greek yogurt, Pomegranate and orange spices while we were waiting for our main course. Then for my main course I had local catch, which was crusted snapper that taste amazing! Love the spicy sauce that they made with Italian chili pepper and I asked James to replace the wax beans with brocollini which the chef was able to accommodate it. My husband had Chantel farm wagyu tenderloin from local farm in Augusta, Ga. It cooked to perfection and came with potatoes puree and amazing mushroom and the serve on top of bourgingnon sauce, I trued the steak and it was amazing. For appetizer, we opted the amazing apple desert that came with apple sorbet and they were party in my mouth! James also brought a brownie and coconut ball as q compliment for our table. I love all these food compliments that made our dinner feel special. Our meal and the drink selection at this place are top notch! The service quality and the atmosphere of this restaurant were excellent! The manager came to our table to check on us and we got to talk about the steak and some local favorite restaurants that he recommended. A must visit restaurant for sure and ask for James and Sasha for your servers!
Be the first to ReplyThe Charleston Grill was perfect for a birthday dinner.
Very elegant. The food was very good and I loved the small menu. Our 2 servers were friendly and professional but we had another 2 staff regularly coming up to the table also, making chat, so we felt constantly interrupted.
Be the first to ReplyWent to the Charleston Grill with my wife for a nice dinner
Went to the Charleston Grill with my wife for a nice dinner while there visiting, the atmosphere is very peaceful and perfect for a nice dinner. The service was amazing with someone coming by to check frequently and to answer any questions about the menu. The menu isn't huge but very diverse, our server Drew, was a man who knew his craft and was able to explain in detail and gave perfect recommendations. I had a delicious appetizer of oyster & crab and hands down the best lamb I've ever had. Food was cooked perfectly and Drew was there to make sure we were completely happy with our meal. If you're looking for a nice ambiance and amazing food and service, this is the place to go for sure.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend reserved this place for my 60th birthday.
Everything was beyond fantastic! The staff was so very sweet, taking time out to recognize my birthday, the food was on point, the bartender was great, too. It was a wonderful and memorable experience. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAs with many of the top restaurants in Charleston, the food
As with many of the top restaurants in Charleston, the food at Charleston Grill was fantastic. Highlights were Tuna Crudo (bright and unique), Snapper, and carrot cake (best ever). The atmosphere was great, especially with our booth seating in a "nook" beside the live jazz trio...it felt like they were playing for us AND we were still able to hear each other b/c of our "nook". All of the above was spectacular but the service truly set the Charleston Grill apart from others. From the moment we were welcomed by the hostess, to having two wait staff attending to our table, the service was as good as it gets. Kudos Charleston Grill! This was the type of meal where you spend a lot of money and say "that was SO worth it". Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a 5 star restaurant and dining experience.
If you have an anniversary or special occasion this is the place to go.
Be the first to ReplyCharleston Grill never disappoints! We have celebrated
Charleston Grill never disappoints! We have celebrated numerous family birthdays there, but have even gone during the late afternoon for a cocktail at the bar/break from King St shopping. The bar is great, they also have some first come first serve seating in the area off the bar where the live music typically is. There is also the dining room that is slightly quieter but you will still hear the music. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, however at the moment my favorite appetizers are the Charleston Grill Crab Cake and the Ahi Tuna Crudo. The Prime Beef Tenderloin is my continuous favorite entree, however the Fish a la Plancha (market fish) has been very good as well! The Chocolate Hibiscus Mousse has been my favorite dessert as of late. They have an extensive wine selection - most recently we tried the 00, VGR out of Willamette Valley (upon recommendation from the sommelier) and it was delicious!

Sometimes you have that really amazing experience where everything is fabulous and that is the Charleston Grill. We had the tasting menu and enjoyed trying lots of interesting food. All of it was fabulous! Service was excellent and we were referred to by our names each time. We we're celebrating my husband's birthday and he got a lovely birthday card, candle with his dessert, and a lovely set of small treats. We had many wonderful food experiences in Charleston-but this one felt very special
Be the first to ReplyWe have been coming to the grill for the last six years
We have been coming to the grill for the last six years every time we visit Charleston. The service is over the top, the menu and wine list are great. Brian is always attentive and the rest of the staff is extremely friendly.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a renowned restaurant and overall it was good
This place is a renowned restaurant and overall it was good but not great - I debated giving 3 stars instead. Get: foie gras; fish a la plancha; butter beans; crème brûlée Avoid: all bread service except corn muffins; heirloom tomato salad; tomato provencalThe server, Nellie, was AMAZING! :)For appetizers we tried the crab cake, heirloom tomato salad, foie gras, risotto. The crab cakes were mediocre - they really didn't have any flavor and were not excellent. The heirloom tomato salad was okay - the blue cheese was not stellar and the bacon was too much. The risotto - is NOT a risotto other than it is similar to an Arborio or carnaroli grain but it is vegan so there is no cheese in it. The flavor was nice though for a rice dish. The foie gras was one of the best foie gras dishes I've ever had - even in Paris. Truly an incredible appetizer! For entrees, we got the fish a la plancha and prime filet. The fish was light and fresh but not incredibly flavorful. The filet was tender but over cooked and not flavorful - there should've been far more sauce. For sides we got the tomato Provençal and butter beans - the butter beans were great! The Tomato Provençal was SO SALTY - it was entirely inedible. They did take this off the receipt without asking but it was shockingly bad. The desserts were better than the entrees. The lemon blueberry cake is light and tastes similar to a lemon meringue pie but the accomplish blueberry sorbet is very tart. The crème brûlée was perfect. Overall - I would come back truly only for the foie gras and be happy.
Be the first to ReplyNot a restaurant to go out of the way for.
This is a typical convention restaurant. There are so many better restaurants in Charleston than this hotel restaurant. The bread service has sour dough, rosemary focaccia, and corn bread. Corn bread was the best. The crab cakes are mediocre. Nothing great. Their best dish is the foie Gras. The steak was dry and over cooked. Not good. The lemon asparagus risotto was better than the crab cake. The crème brûlée was a classic. The lemon pound cake with blueberry sorbet was good, but the blueberry sorbet was tart and awful. Skip this place unless you are stuck in the hotel and can't get a reservation elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife ordered the crab cake from here in "crab country.
" It was smaller than a silver dollar and very expensive. She ate again 30 minutes later. It's a nice place, but please give us a substantial serving.

All around excellence! From the greeting to the ambiance to the service staff to the food - all exceeded our expectation. We had a most enjoyable evening and will absolutely return.

The pricing and atmosphere gives the impression it should be an easy 5 star experience. Of the 6 or so different dishes my fiancé and I tried, as well as drinks, only one piece really blew us away. The peach burrata was amazing. Everything else was "good". There's better value on nearly every block in Charleston with much better food at a better price. Drinks were fairly average, but we're also moderately priced compared to the food. Having said that, we had a good time. The staff made us feel like a priority (other than the wait time for food). They were a bit much at times, but overall very kind, thoughtful, and inviting. 4/5 experience, but not sure if we'd be back

A huge shout out to the nice and accommodating gentleman who was able to squeeze us in for some wine and AMAZING live music. Our server was just as great. Can't wait to be back to try the food.

Favorite restaurant in Charleston and probably top 5 in the country. Ambiance was perfect very elevated yet not stuffy. All of the staff was outstanding. Great extensive wine list and the food was beyond amazing. Cannot go to charleston without coming here.

We eat out all over the world, from hole in the walls to 3 star Michelin restaurants. Charleston Grill is by far the restaurant with the most impeccable service I've ever experienced. We drove in from Atlanta and were tired and had only 45 minutes to check in and make it to our reservation downstairs. Our children (age 2 & 5) were tired and stir crazy and had had it. But they were so wonderful with them both (and my son is a handful). The food was amazing as well, and their adorable children's menu is by far the best children's menu I've ever seen! They deserve much more than 5 stars. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyA new menu but still excellentey! I simply love the food
A new menu but still excellentey! I simply love the food here. The restaurant is peaceful, has excellent, respectful service, and is just one of the finest places to dine in Charleston. The food is beautifully presented and just exquisite. The bread basket varies and is hand served. Today the choice was rosemary focaccia, sourdough, rye and cornbread, served with butte with lava salt.I had the foie gras, which was served with a strawberry jam. I am blown away at the how the delicate flavors meld into one another. My main entree was the prime beef tenderloin, cooked to medium, served with potatoes that had a smoked flavor, with a sprinkling of foie gras (yes, again!) You can knock me over with a feather. Just wow! I can't say enough about this place. It's the finest of fine dining!
Be the first to ReplyWe recently enjoyed a meal at Charleston Grill.
Breakdown:AppsRoasted Cauliflower and Broccolini--skippable. It was fine but nothing specialCrab Cake--absolutely excellent. Basically just a couple chunks of crab more than anything else.DinnerSweet Potato Gnocchi--this was excellent. Surprise of the meal. We somewhat threw this in on the end just to try it out, but it was very good.Spring Veg and Lemon Risotto--it was fine, nothing to write home about. Scallops--Good. too much truffle for me, but I'm not a huge fan of that flavor to begin with anyhow, so I think that is more about personal preference.DrinksBartender made top notch drinks. A french 75 and an aviation, both were in the top 5 we've had of each specific order. Honestly we may go back just for drinks another time as they were really wonderful. Well done!!AmbianceKind of a neat place tucked away down a hallway that otherwise you would just walk right past. There was live music, they were wrapping up when we arrived so I can't say too much about it.ServiceService was attentive and helpful. At times a little overbearing as we were enjoying a long and slow meal, but I understand how that can be taxing for a server, especially near the end of the night.
