High Tea
An elegant restaurant at the Peabody Hotel. We went for the high tea service. Our waiter was just ok. We felt he didn't give us a good overview of what to expect or what was included. Upon ordering the tea, I ordered a champagne since I do not like tea. We were given the impression that the champagne was included in the set fee for meal so everyone ordered one. Apparently that was incorrect and upon receiving the bill we were charged for the 4 champagnes. A bit confusing. The food was good, having been to tea in Ireland it did not compare. Since there were 4 of us there was literally only 1 item per person so if you enjoyed say the cucumber finger sandwich you were out of luck if everyone ate theirs. The scones came out after the finger sandwiches and one for each of us again, they were huge actually way to big, should have been smaller and more delicate to go along with what high tea is supposed to be. The dessert was good nothing over the top though. You could take goody bags with you so we took any leftovers. Very expensive sort of sticker shock with all the taxes and gratuities included, along with the champagne which was an extra charge. Not sure it is worth it, go to Ireland to experience real high tea in a castle!!!!

Fantastic experience! Our server, Chris, was outstanding. From the food to the drinks... Such a memorable night!
Be the first to ReplyThe best dining experience
We had afternoon tea at Chez Phillipe, and it was one of the best experiences of our trip. The restaurant is beautiful and intimate. Our experience (you can't call it a mere meal) was made great due to the care from our server, Chris. Just the right amount of attention and fun. The food was beautiful and very tasty. A memorable time was had by all.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Tea was a High Disappointment
So disappointing. For two teas, with taxes and mandatory gratuity I spent $148 dollars. We were served average cold food that must have been made a few weeks ago and defrosted. We couldn't even finish the off tasting, yet pretty desserts. I was impressed with other guest, dressed up nice, everyone walking in excited to be treated special. Later I saw other guest at the hotel deli counter ordering sandwiches like us an hour later. I had to ask for more hot water twice, so even the TEA portion wasn't what I expected.

We had dinner expecting spectacular things. We arrived, and were seated. The restaurant is beautiful when we were seated our waiter took our drink order, he immediately jumped into to explain the menu. We asked that he wait until our drinks arrived before explaining the menu (we knew it was a prix fix menu, and how that works, so really not too much to explain). However, he immediately became what could be, at best described as sulky. We know that the other guests had better service because we could see it. The menu is set, but there are enough choices in each section to choose from. The actual food quality was spotty. I had the morel appetizer and it was very good, but my companions choice was average at best. The fish was over cooked. Unfortunately, the attitude of the waiter made everything even less appealing.
Be the first to ReplyThe Peabody Memphis disappointing
This hotel is rather dark and depressing. Our two night stay was a big disappointment, while our upgraded room was large,it was very dated with louvered doors and poorly painted walls ,the tiny bathroom would not let a large person sit on the loo..the noise of hotrod cars was very disturbing at night. The room wasn't made up after first night as I'd put wrong thing on door ,they did come back and asked very rudely if I wanted them to make the bed ? Hell yes for #300 per night she obviously thought I should do it myself. I expected tea and coffee making facilities in the room but no,they could send up at a charge or I could go to the deli in the hall. Breakfast was another disappointment as was the Easter 3 course meal for #95 in the Italian restaurant. Not the experience I was expecting this place needs to stop living on its historical reputation and move into this century, Staff at reception and concierge were Pleasant and helpful

High Tea- this was disappointing to say the least. The selection was minimal and not super fresh or delicious. Tea was not served in a lovely painted ceramic pot as we had thought but in a standard metal pot. Our waiter was lovely but the rest was blah. Would not do again and also wouldn't recommend for the cost. The ambience was lovely though.
Be the first to ReplySome cheer at the otherwise dreary Peabody
This was our 4th night staying at the Peabody and the service has been chronic so we arrived at Chez Philippe with trepidation! Front of house Glenn greeted us with enthusiasm and friendliness which is rare here and was very much welcomed by us. Our server was Solomon and he was equally friendly which was great. We had the 4 course (2 choices for courses 1-3 and 4 choices of desert) a La carte which was plentiful and delicious. Good space between course. Costs €130pp + wine pairing $50 Traditional surroundings. Nice experience, it was pleasing to feel wanted, Glenn needs to train the other function heads here!

This restaurant falls under the category of a Southern experience. There may be a finer restaurant in the south I am sure, but this is a lovely restaurant with delicious food and perfect service. For my palate, the menu was a bit limited, but not for most people I am sure. It is very pricey, I don't think you could complain about that because you could surely look at any menu before you go in for pricing which is something that I always do. Overall, I loved this restaurant. The decor was lovely and I will be back, but. for a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyVery Disappointing Lunch
Several thing went wrong with lunch today when we tried to eat here. Took long time to even order food, When we did get food fires were cold. Sandwich bread was stale. They tried to bring us our dinks when we were ready to leave. I know staffing is tough now a days, but these folks acted like they did not want to be there.
Be the first to ReplyMemphis' most luxurious dining experience
My wife and I passed up the room service breakfast for two at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis in order to enjoy an a la carte breakfast on the morning after we had experienced a first-class dinner in the hotel's luxurious Chez Philippe. Adjacent to the elegant lobby, the dining room simply oozes with tradition and opulence. For breakfast, my wife had Cinnamon Challah French Toast with maple syrup, fresh berries, bacon, a Bronx bagel with cream cheese and a cappucino. I had two scrambled eggs with sausage, breakfast potatoes, toast and a large glass of orange juice. Then we were off on the next leg of our trip to Florida. The night before, after being entertained by the five resident ducks, we enjoyed a sumptuous dinner. My wife started with a Wedge salad with iceberg lettuce, Bleu cheese dressing, crumbled bacon and heirloom tomato, then had a six-ounce filet mignon with mashed potatoes, asparagus and truffle sauce and finished with a delicious vanilla creme brulee. I opted for a bowl of lobster bisque and a Caesar salad with romaine, garlic croutons, parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing, a grilled ribeye of beef with mashed potatoes and asparagus and a large slice of pecan pie. The Peabody is advertised as "The South's Grandest Hotel." With its elegant surroundings, Chez Philippe could be advertised as "The South's Grandest Restaurant."
Be the first to ReplySlow service and not for keeping a French atmosphere
Obvious newer staff in the dining rooms? For lunch, we were taken care of by a team? or did our waitress just disappear on us? For dinner, I asked for mustard for my AWESOME burger and I laughed internally when handled mustard packets although I got the classy mustard glass mini bottles when I ordered in the room.

My wife wanted to go to the new tea at Chez Philippe. Finally I made reservations on Christmas eve. The service was excellent. the staff called ahead of time to check on the reservation and if there were dietary restrictions. THey dealt with the restrictions very well.
Be the first to ReplyHotel Breakfast
We did not want to fight trying to find a late breakfast downtown. We ate at one for the Peabody hotel restaurants. They only had basic breakfast items. Service was good. The price is over the top for basic eggs and pancakes, but you pay for the convenience of location.

This is Covid. It seems that the Peabody decided to shut the original "Chez Philippe" restaurant, tables have been removed and put in storage, and other details are lacking (My wife's Hugel Alsace white was lukewarm, the cab I ordered wasn't available, carpet under our table was dirty). However, you still can enjoy the fabulous grand dining room setting next to the Peabody lobby, it isn't the original "Chez Philippe" kitchen and service but we were nevertheless very satisfied with our food. The lobster bisque was delicious, the presentation of the Filet Mignon was very nice, the scampi pasta was excellent. I don't know where this food comes from ("Capriccio"?), but it was very enjoyable. Expensive.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome dinner at Chez Phillip, Peabody Hotel
My friend and I recently had dinner at Chez Phillip and we chose the 4 coarse dinner, with my friend doing the 4 coarse meal with 4 coarse wine tasting. We started with a Caesar salad made table side then went on to the second course of scallops and sea bass, splitting them so we could taste both. The third course we chose the filet and the dessert coarse was a almond and hazelnut soufflé. Not only was the meal excellent, they also served palate cleansers between every course (panna cotta served in an egg shell, a baked clam in the shell with a shooter of clam chowder, grapefruit sorbet with black pepper meringue). Our server was genuine and friendly and had full knowledge of the menu choices and wines. The setting in the Peabody Hotel is private and very elegant. This dining experience was well worth the cost and I would highly recommend it for a special occasion, or just for a special treat while on a “girls road trip” like us
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
It pains me to write this review because Chez Phillipe has always been our "go to" restaurant for very special occasions. The dining room is opulent and the meals have always been delicious. They have changed the menu so that they only serve two fixed price menus; the four course at $100 and the seven courses at $175. They have added numerous up charges for various "options". For example, instead of the soup of the day, the lobster bisque is an additional $12; or instead of the sirloin, the waygu is "market + $5". Otherwise, the menu options are limited. The food itself was tasty, but only a few dishes really stood out. Additionally, the portions have always been petite, but they are really tiny now - limited to a few bites. Similarly, the drinks from the bar were also small. Our service was painfully slow and our server (JonT on the bill but that's not the name he gave us - maybe Solomon?) was aloof and evasive when questioned about the dishes. It was an unfortunate $440 disappointment of a dinner for two and at this price, the most expensive in town, it's costly. The main reason for two stars is due to the limitations mentioned above, in light of the price. At a lower price point, I could be much more forgiving, but at $440, we probably won't be back.
