Chug's Diner Miami Reviews from The Last Year

Really tasty food! I went with my family for breakfast, and we got a variety of things, all of which were delicious! My breakfast sandwich, was super tasty and filling, the burger was cooked to perfection! the oxtail soup was very warm and hearty, and the grilled chicken was very well flavored! Coffee and service were also good!

Was a big fan when I last came here a few times 10-12 months ago. Went today and the verdict is a big "avoid" and "waste of money" We were seated at a booth that had just been vacated by folks who left without ordering (we should've done the same frankly after this experience). We were told that the cutlery and glassware (that had been moved around on the table) was "clean". We had to repeatedly ask and then politely demand clean glasses and cutlery. I then asked for a cafe con leche and was told that it's the same as a latte by the waiter. Err no it is not. He again repeated it is the same... ok, odd service. Our food - the conpleta and burger - arrived prior to drip coffee and my cafe con leche. In fact, while we ate (about 20 min), our simple drinks never came. So we paid and asked that they never show. Burger was good though the bun was cold and I remember the burger patty itself being larger. Good smash burger though. The completa was fine though, considering we asked for an extra egg which they say they included, the portion was minuscule. Service was terrible requiring you to advocate for yourself at every turn - wtf? Seems the Bib Gourmand rec went to their heads and the place has heavily deteriorated in the last year

Came here on a trip with some girl friends and highly recommend this hash. We also had the pancake which you NEED to try.
I came here on my neighbors recommendation.
I am a longtime resident of the area. Came on a Saturday around 2 PM. The place was crowded and we sat at the bar. The food took one hour exactly to get to us and we were right in front of the kitchen , I gives specific instructions about the meal and it came incorrect, it was also very salty, ordered a cappuccino, and it was very lame and very bad you think being a Cuban place known for their amazing coffee this thing would've been good, but it was not, no foam no flavor , just some dirty water I will give it another try , I always do with every establishment that I visit, I know this place is busy, but one hour to get a simple egg sandwich is not acceptable, the hostess was also not very helpful. I see a lot of empty tables and yet she suggested we sat at the bar. I do, however I'm kind of impressed. They servehard liquor here , maybe to get wasted and forget the bad food and poor service? Let's see how long management takes to get back to me.
At Chugs, the service and food left much to be desired.
Despite our waitress not taking any notes on our order, she managed to mess it up three times. To top it off, our coffees and food were served cold. The staff's hostile and unapproachable demeanor further soured our experience.
Ate lunch with my family and friends , place was very busy
Ate lunch with my family and friends , place was very busy and it took us about 90 minutes to sit 8 people. The service was a bit slow , but food overall was really good. I'd come back on a day where it's not as busy . Highly recommend if you are near the grove and want a good place to eat
I loved this place!! Really great food, fast service.
We went on a Monday at 2 l, no wait and sat outside which they set up nicely. We got the duck croquettes which were very good and the pan con bistec. The sandwich you can share between two people if you don't want to overindulge. They are a pretty big portion. The best thing was the mamey and guava shake. I'm not a huge fan of guava but this was so delicious I would go back just for that. Would come back again!
Food was great.
The French toast and pancake were delish. Very dense though so I recommend splitting the pancake with another.
Worst experience at a restaurant.
They served au jus with their sandwiches in coffee cups that sit precariously on the edges of each plate. Well my plate the cup rolled off and onto the table (my phone) and all over my pants and shoes. They didn't even comp us for their screw up on how they served their food. Aside from that, the menus were printed so faded, no one could read them, the food was meh, and the manager came over 1/2 hour later and said "Well, let me know if I can help but we don't have spare clothes in the back". Seriously? We will never be back, that place was beyond disappointing! If in Coconut Grove, I do not recommend.
Brunch on a Tuesday was outstanding.
Service was quick and attentive. The outdoor patio had lots of space, pretty and relatively quiet. The croquettas were great but the star was the cast iron pancake! The other stand out meals for the table were the crepes and the short rib boliche. Definitely not a light meal but well worth the calories!
Disappointment, what's a word that's even less than disappointing?
What a disappointment! Recommended by Michelin? There is nothing Cuban about it here. They even refused to change from the white bread to the typical Cuban bread! French fries stuck together, the feel os like a 50's diner with old American classics blaring out of the speakers, nothing feels like Cuba in here. The staff is very friendly but as slow as can be. Do not believe Michelin on this one.

I love the bakery section, and their coffee is incredible, a little pricey but it is coconut grove.
Tried this spot out randomly and off that bat the two
Tried this spot out randomly and off that bat the two hostess were THE worst hostess ever they were lying about the seating order I had to rudely complain to them after seeing 3 parties get sat before me and I have 35 min into my wait time. They claimed they were sitting 4 tops at the time after I complained and what a surprise I was sat in a 4 top table and I was a party of 2. The service was soo slow it was ridiculous and it was already slowing down by the time I sat down.. the food came out before my drinks and I ordered the drinks before anything. The food was nothing out of this world. I dont recommend this place AT ALL!
This place is an amazing brunch spot! They don't take
This place is an amazing brunch spot! They don't take reservations so get there early or put your name down and walk down the street for coffee. I had the Pan con croquetta sandwhich and it was phenomenal! It was fresh, and a great flavor combo! We sat outside and that felt like an oasis in Miami - like we were teleported to Spain!
Visited Chug's a few weeks ago and my group liked liked it!
Visited Chug's a few weeks ago and my group liked liked it! Since they're listed on Michelin's "Bib Gourmand" list, I did have high expectations. We went mid-day on a Wed. The staff was nice but needed a few mins to warm up to us. Coffees and cocktails were good. My friend did get a mimosa and there was a lot to desired as they didn't fill here glass up very much. I think they gave her a wine glass instead of a champagne flute. I ordered the "cast iron pancake" and I enjoyed it! It was sweet and gave me cornbread vibes. Tasted great with the syrup it came in too. I'd consider going back.

Terrible first experience, sat us down ordered food only to tell us they can't serve us anymore
Came here on a Saturday and it was super busy around 11am.
I waited 40 minutes to get seated and the food did not disappoint. I tried the pork hash and the pancake! The pork hash came with a lot of meat and was a good amount of food. The pancake is huge!! We couldn't finish it, but it was delicious definitely a must try when you go! I also tried their banana carajillo which was interesting. They have interesting cocktails! The place itself looks like a modern cafe. It's cute and casual. The service was okay, but that could just be bc they were really busy
Service is slow.
.. looked like there were 2 waiters and a bunch of servers waiting for the waiters permission to bring over items. Pastelitos were pretty much done by the time we got there. Had the duck croquetas and duck doesn't really belong in a croquetas. The malanga latkes were ok, guava sauce great. Frita patty melt was delish but it felt like they just used the same patty from the Frita burger they could have flatten it more to fit the rye bread size. My friends liked their dishes Abuelita platter. Didn't bother staying for dessert but across the street Fireman Derek's pie was awesome!
absolutely must try cast iron pancake.
Best pancake i've ever had in my life. Pan con lechón is also incredible !!
The food was incredible.
Would highly recommend the croquettes and the cast iron pancake. The wait time was pretty standard for a brunch spot on a Sunday. Service was decent. My only complaint was the server could have cleared the plates as we hung out to talk for a little bit after we ate.
Usually a wait but worth it! Breakfast and coffee is
Usually a wait but worth it! Breakfast and coffee is delish! Recommend the pancake or quiche. True diner feel on the inside and outside seating is also available.
Ashamed…
We went to this restaurant on the inspiration of the moment. The welcome was friendly and the meal decent, without being up to Michelin standards… Furthermore, I didn’t appreciate being overpaid with the tip ($81,45!) for a meal at $64,00. That’s not what I had validated (2%…). I find the method dishonest. .. We contacted the restaurant, without answer from them… and a gesture would be welcome!
They tipped us $80 dollards and I am still waiting for their answer!
I have written an email to this resturant but no answer yet ! in my email I wrote that this restaurant charged us $80 dollars in tips ! we are foreigners and my companion does not understand all English , the waiter explained the dishes , I did understand but it was more complicated for him. I went to the restroom during the check and when I came back , everything was paid . We do not have this type of tipping in France so my companion thought he gave 20 % of the check . Back to France we saw the restaurant wrote $80 dollards on the receipt , and the bank accounk was debited of $150 for a meal around 60 ! I have the receipt so I hope the restaurant will get in touch with us , otherwise what a rip off for tourists . So I am still waiting for the restaurant contact because they need to refund us, that is not fair !
Tasty lunch
A really good lunch place. Especially the cuban American sandwich. Nice and serviceminded staff and a lovely vibe and area to dine both innside and outside.
Oh yeah!
Honestly, one of the best sandwitches I’ve ever eaten! Beer selection is good, very nice garden seating with a view of the street. Its a bit on the upper end on the scale for price, but I would say it was worth it!
Cuban Diner in Coconut Grove
Chug's, located in Coconut Grove, provides a versatile dining experience that incorporates the best of Cuban cuisine within the ambience of a classic American diner, with booths, counter seating and laminated menus at each table. The restaurant values the traditional diner concept, reflecting it in its irresistible menu that covers different dish options from breakfast to dinner. The highlight Diner Burger sandwich, with grilled meat, caramelized onions, mustard aioli and American cheese and a perfect bun...accompanied by incredible fries!
Skip the Chef Breakfast and have anything with Lechon.
We went to this place because of the reviews we read. Plus, it was in walking distance of our hotel. I had read an article about the $10 chef’s breakfast and wanted to give that a try. My wife chose the Lechon sandwich with fries. The Chef Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, it was good and prepared to my liking, it lacked a lot of flavor. The sandwich on the other hand was perfect. The pork was tender with citrus notes that screamed traditional. I went back on my won for breakfast on the last day and had the Lechon Hash, and that was a perfect way to end the trip to Miami, lots of pork, large chunks of potato and onion and eggs cooked a perfect Sunny Side.
Fabulous coffee!!
Can only comment on the Cafe con Leche, but it was delicious!!! Walked right past Starbuck’s (and I’m a Starbuck’s fan) every morning to get coffee here instead. Very friendly service as well!
Good and bad at the same time
I always wanted to give this place a try, especially because of the Michelin star so we decided to have brunch there at the weekend. I did the Wedge Salad whereas my partner had the pastelitos. The salad was good but it was drenched in dressing. Although the taste was great, there was way too much dressing. One-third of the amount would have been enough. There was also oil sprinkled in the bottom of the plate, which made it even heavier. (It is possible it was the fat from the bacon, I couldn't tell.) The bacon was excellent but the combination of the dressing, the oil and the bacon is a real death sentence to your gallbladder. Next time (if there's any) I will ask the dressing on the side. The pastelitos however were perfect. Fluffy, tasty, it melted in the mouth, pampering the taste buds. Service was absolutely impersonal, and so was the overall vibe of the place. I had the feeling they did us a favor by letting us eat and spend our money there. Kind of be grateful that you can eat here feeling. But it is a general approach in most of the restaurants in Miami, so we were not surprised. The ink used to print the menu is so light that it is very hard to read so either check the menu online or bring a magnifying glass.
Upscale Diner for everyone.
This is one of our favorite go-to places in Coconut Grove. Whenever you can't decide on a restaurant, Chugs is that perfect fall back that everyone can agree on. The food is good, the waitstaff is diner-friendly, and the location is perfect. The only complaint is that, when it's loud, it's loud.
Outstanding breakfast and incredibly friendly and knowledgeable manager
My family of 4, with kids 18 and 20, thoroughly enjoyed our recent breakfast here. My son devoured the week-aged, $17 steak-cut bacon and said it was the best bacon he’s ever had in his life. We also ordered the potato/broccoli/cheese dish and the pancake that easily fed 4. We tried the pasteles, both sweet and savory, and we highly recommend them. Casual diner setting with good ac, right in the heart of downtown Coconut Grove. Good service. Awesome manager. We look forward to returning and trying lunch.
