It pains me to say that while my Baller omakase experience
It pains me to say that while my Baller omakase experience with dipdipdip was great, I would never go back and it was a one and done ordeal with us. Hubs and I had been teetering with whether or not we should've kept our reservations or just ditched, but we are rule followers and showed up excited to try out this next tatsuya venue. We have LOVED kemuri for valentines and our go to ramen and expected we'd be wowed for this as well. Sadly, while the staff were friendly, and sake pairing was well received, I felt like I didn't have that same warmth and service compared to some of the other tables next to us who had much more attentive explanations of dishes or cocktails, it was very go go, for us and we were wrapped up. All of our bites were lovely, the broths we chose were tasty and the keep Austin dipping was a hit to give it that Texas twist, but compared to other hot pot experiences I've had in atx, this just fell flat for the price point - the A5 waygu was stellar, I was looking forward to a certificate as well as I had friends previously go and talk about their experience. The interior and theming along with presentation were absolutely beautiful, I loved the lighting fixtures and wooden fixtures all throughout, but sad to say that while our meal was good, was not an amazing omakase to be had, and wish we'd skipped. Definitely one and done for us as there's other hot pot places we'd choose before coming back here.
Be the first to ReplyReally arrogant servers.
Every question was answered with condescending tone. Stuff was set down without instruction or explanation. When one of the pots boiled over and ran pork broth down onto one of our party's legs and bag, the waiter tried to blame them and say it didn't spill. One of us didn't get something we ordered and the waitress said someone else at the table must've ate it. The place was 1/2 empty and they had plenty of staff, no need for the attitude, no one in our party gave them any reason to act that way.

We've had shabu shabu before, but this was our first visit to DipDipDip and we loved it. Shannon was our server and she was very friendly and helpful as she explained the menu to us. We decided to do the house omakase and it was the perfect way to sample a bunch of different broths, dips, meats, and veggies. The shrimp meatballs were one of my favorite dishes of the night. It was an enjoyable meal in a cool space with great service. We'll definitely be returing.

From the door to everything. The service is amazing. Had special drinks from the manager for my birthday! I thought I've had perfect hotpot and here is another level! Japanese Shabu shabu hotpot in town. I've been to Japan...everything in this restaurant has been thought of meticulously! Special mention to Bradley our server and manager Toni and the front desk person who was graceful to change to our preferred table! The room, the lighting, the design! The food especially the duck---candle wax made out of duck fat! The experience is so unique and so worth it! To die for!

Shabu shabu was one of our favorite experiences while visiting Japan last year, so we were very excited to try this place. Happy to repot: it did not disappoint. Warning: if you think this is a ramen experience, research shabu shabu. Any review calling this experience 'bland' is from uncultured swine. It's not about a crazy rich broth - it's about the quality of the protein you dip. First, each staff member was incredibly warm and assisted with any questions, especially giving advice on cooking times in the broth. We appreciated our waiter, Bradley, and his absolutely sweet spirit. I loved that we got a free small bite to start and something sweet to finish (I could have eaten a bucket of that tea-infused dessert). For the food: each person has their own hot pot, which I actually appreciated. Less crowded that way. We ordered the tonkotsu broth, brussels, mushrooms, scallops, ny strip, pork belly, and the A5 wagyu. Each protein was beautifully tender and only needed mere moments in the broth. But I will say.. the dips made it for me. Those that come with the broth (ponzu and sesame) were dynamite. But we also opted for the bone marrow and truffle dips - HOLY COW. These were so rich and decadent and went especially well with the meats. Overall, yes, it is a pricey experience. But when you walk in, you're transported to a new a place and we felt like we were right back in Japan.

4.5/5 stars I've been a Tatsu-Ya fan and DipDipDip is on our rotation of local restaurants we have returned to over the past few years. Each time, the servers are attentive and offer great explanations of the dishes. I enjoy the environment cultivated by open dining area and music selection. We typically order a la carte and get 6-7 dishes per person which is pushing overeating for me. I usually stick with their tonkatsu, beef, pork belly, scallop, and gyoza. I generally cook rare to medium rare and it always taste fresh and tender. Don't forget to sip some of the broth before they take the pot away! Their citrus ponzu dip and yuzu granita are also highlights. We'd probably return more frequently if it was 10-15% less expensive but that is the only negative thing I can think of for this wonderful dining experience. Recommend!
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive, you can pay $100 and still left hungry.
If you want hotpot, there are AYCE options in Austin that only cost $40
Be the first to ReplyI don't get the hype.
Bland food in a bland broth that you have to cook yourself. Way overpriced for what you get. $60+ per person and we left hungry. That should NOT happen if you pay over $120 for your two people. The music playlist was great, the atmosphere was warm, the service was friendly. That said, I won't be back. I feel like I've been ripped off for boring, simple food without much flavor. Quite disappointing compared to Tatsu-Ya's other Austin-area restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the fanciest shabu shabu restaurants I have been to.
The service was excellent and I loved the special touches they had like the custom made meatball dispensers. After ordering, they also came by with a cart with additional add-on options. They have a few fixed price menus but you can order a la carte as well.
Be the first to ReplyGood service from start to finish.
Cramped seating. Love the concept. And fresh ingredients

Definite must visit! I felt like I was back in Japan for a twist in shabu shabu. Wonderful ribeye, veggies and flavorful broth! Great service! Enjoy my friends

Last year my sister, her bf and I went to tiki Tatsu-Ya and this year we made reservations for dip dip at 7pm! We got there 15 minutes early to check in, our table wasn't ready but was so excited that we could order drinks outside while we wait for our table. It was gorgeous outside so it was a perfect way to wait. When our table was ready, we walked in and they had a Japanese saying that they yelled. I meant to ask what it meant but totally forgot. Everyone that came in got the same saying and we tried to record but was too slow hahaOnce we were seated, our waiter came right up to get us water and our amuse bouche. The amuse bouche had a sweet but pickly/horseradish taste that I was not fond of but my sister and her bf loved it.We all did the tonkatsu broth and the A5 Japanese meat and it was like butter. Absolutely amazing even though I feel bad for the cow. We also did the pork flight and it was the perfect amount of meat. We also started with the veggies and mushrooms which were also perfect. I'm not a veggie girl but their veggies were so absolutely pretty and delightfully light.I also ordered the eggplant with the miso glaze and let me tell you, it is worth it, you have to get it. Eat it with the rice! The sauces that came was also delightful - one was peanut and one was soy sauce based.Since they knew it was my sister my sister's bday they brought us this light champagne and sorbet for paler cleansing and was the best way to end the meal. None of us were too full and stuffed. We were perfectly content. The way they brought the food out was enough time in between to be ready and not stuffed. We also ordered ice cream from dip dip dip ice cream for pick up right after dinner. I would pick this over the tiki one! I'll definitely come back when I visit!

Wonderful ambiance, staff, concept -- but only mediocre food. In fact despite the sophisticated style the food was frankly not very good. So great experience but boring and bland food. The broths were watery, lacked salt and significant flavor/spicing. The dips were just adequate. I would not order any of the veggie options or the omakase. That leaves you dipping very small pieces of fish or meat to get boiled in lightly flavored water. Not a gourmet experience but an interesting one! I would not repeat the experience but I am glad that I went once to check out the style.

Been meaning to try DipDipDip for a while now, and finally did for my brothers bday celebration. Leading up to it, I was almost dissuaded by the negative reviews and almost rebooked to a sushi omakaze somewhere to be safe but I'm so glad we went through with enjoying this experience because it was *chefs kiss* A1 -er, A5 if you will. A little bit of background...I freaking love hot pot. Any Sichuan style hotpot or Shabu Zone (if you're from Houston), I go at least every other week. DipDipDip is like that...but not. You'll be able to draw from your other hotpot experiences, but expect a few twists and a supremely elevated experience. I immediately noticed that instead of dumping a huge plate of veggies or meat like I usually do at other hotpot places, I was carefully savoring every piece of freaking lettuce or thin sliced carrot...and I was all the happier for it. Prior to coming and even as the meal was underway, I was expecting to leave hungry and to grab a sandwich at Tunble22 next door afterwards, but somehow both my brother and I left full and satisfied. Too full to even grab some DipDipDip ice cream outside like we originally planned. This was surprising because we both eat A LOT.The food, speaks for itself - top notch quality, everything perfect DankDankDank. We got the baller omakaze, and I feel like it was worth it. Cocktails...hnnng amazing. Still thinking about that salted yuzu foam on the Yuzu Libre. I would definitely like to try the sake pairing next time, as the table next to us got it and they all sounded amazing. The service, exquisite. Servers worked as a team and were all very attentive. I'm sure a lot of celebrations happen here and they do all the small but memorable things to help you celebrate. PS - Get the Smokey Miso broth. It picks up all the flavors as you go and evolves into a beautiful stand-alone soup at the end. The tonkotsu was more one-dimensionally a meaty broth from start to finish.
Be the first to ReplyReally enjoyed the food and the service was impeccable.
The outside of restaurant looks ver plain, but inside was nice. The tables are a little too close together. I highly recommend their truffle egg dip. Yum!
Be the first to ReplyLet me start off by saying this was a lovely experience!
Let me start off by saying this was a lovely experience! For Valentine's there was a special omakase for $300 and it's a special day so we went for it. On this day we could only order omakase. The place is beautiful. The experience is cool. Menus on the side of the chairs love it. All the foods came with an explanation and recommendation on how to eat it. All the servers were absolutely lovely, friendly, and fashionable! All the broths sounded amazing but we went for Miso Smokey and Tonkotsu which were very good. I think a lot of people think of the ramen flavors going into it so they're like wow it tasted like nothing... don't go into it thinking it's ramen broth you'll be disappointed. It's good ole light shabu shabu broth. It was nice and rich yet light! The oysters, shrimp, and beef tartare came first and they were all delicious. The shrimps were as thick as sausages, the oysters were yummy (can't really taste the beet), and the beef tartare was delicious! The veggies were so cute lmao the mushrooms were yummy. The pork shoulder was good and I liked it in the bao. The scallops were very buttery and good. The prime rib and bone marrow was delicious. I won't lie I was kind of bummed when there was only three pieces of meat. Kind of wish we went with the Baller Omakase because the table next to us got it and it had more meat and noodles! Last was the dessert. The pot de creme was good but the size was so sad and small lol the granita was freaking delicious... the pomegranate tarragon flavor was out of this world. Overall we were disappointed by how little amount of meat we got. For a $300 experience we were hoping for a little more. The food was still delicious and the experience overall was great. It was worth the $300 in my opinion but I'd come back to try a different Omakase

Markita Harrison, the GM, was so so helpful when our reservation was messed up on a 3rd party site. Her and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience fantastic. They we're very attentive and helpful throughout our whole meal. would recommend this place again and again.

Let me start off by saying that this is certainly not your average restaurant visit, it's truly an experience. Prior to visiting, I read a lot of negative reviews on here about how people "left hungry" or it was "expensive for a small amount of food". Please do not buy into those reviews, these people likely ordered a la carte as first timers, and didn't truly experience this restaurant. My friend and I did the Tatsuya Omakase, as our server (I believe his name was Santiago) recommended any of the Omakase options for first timers, as it gives a nice plethora of food to try. I went with the miso Smokey broth, and asked to make it extra spicy. What's nice about the Omakase as well, is that you get to try ALL of the dipping sauces and it's included in the price.Yes, you have to do the "cooking" yourself by dipping the fish, meats, and vegetables in the hot pot, but nothing takes more than a minute or so to cook. My personal favorites were the mushrooms and the NY strip. For drinks we just ordered a la carte- wines, Kaizen Whiskey, and the highball. All were solid and brought to us quickly. There is an optional sake pairing with the Omakase. The ambiance is very unique- dimly lit and close quarters for seating. Perfect for date night or a cozy dinner with friends. My friend accidentally dumped a sauce into his hot pot, and our server was super kind to bring him another one free of charge. Overall, we really loved our server- he was very helpful and explained everything- we had a ton of questions as we were hot pot style first timers. Great experience, great food, and I will be back!

EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE!!! FOOD NOT GOODWould give ZERO star but that's not an option. This place is a rip off and the food is definitely NOT worth the money. We had a party of five and they made us ordered the "Omakase" on their menu ,which is $95 per person. They said we could not order a La carte due to the number of people in our party, which is bullshit. I don't mind paying the high price if the food was worth it. But in this case, it was not. We'll NEVER come back to this place again. Broth was bland and taste like hot water. They only give you several pieces of paper thin cut veggies and a few thin slices of meat and a small scoop of rice. All that for $500 for our family of five. Nothing good about this place. Save your money and treat your family to a nice steak house.
