Came here for a birthday meal and while the food and service as well as view were nice, I was most disappointed in my experience after the meal. Came home with a terrible case of food poisoning and when we notified the restaurant we got a generic response saying they would investigate and follow up. It has been almost 2 months and nothing. Really not what I would have expected from a supposed 1 Michelin star establishment. I was simply looking for a proper follow up. Save your money for other spots that will treat their diners better. There are plenty of other amazing spots in Toronto. We will certainly never be going back nor do we recommend this to anyone either

Everyone gets a perfect seat and everyone gets a perfect meal. I've collected plenty of Michelin stars in Italy and Don Alfonso 1890 holds up compared to all of them. The restaurant is open very late and, depending on when your flight arrives, it's possible to fit in on your travel day. Truly memorable--the negative reviews are nonsensical.

Hard to really connect to an Italian restaurant, claiming in the website to the best Italian outside of Italy, and hardly having anything Italian in its creativity or flavors on the menu. I was born in Italy and hard for me to ever remember that wagyu, soy sauces, bison, or even tempura are typical Italian ingredients or fares. The Croccantino of vegetables for example was basically a vegetable tempura, artsily plated in a tower, with a lot of fancy colorful, yet bland sauces around, but in essence I would have expected to find such a dish at Cactus Club, versus a Starred Michelin restaurant. And over the past 20 years, I have my share of 3-stars around the world. The wagyu carpaccio, was bland, thicker that expected, with very little seasoning and I left half of it on the plate just because I did not feel like wasting too much. Service was also lacking. Of course I was in the Lounge, maybe that is the reason, but plating, service, attention to details were lacking, including a whole glass of an expensive wine being poured outside of my glass onto the table (did not get a proposal for replacing that glass, except profuse apologies....go figure). So all in all an over $300 for two experience was basically a bust. I'll stick to my trattorias...

We went for a celebration dinner, and it was just absolutely stunning. The food was on point, but even more than the food, the service was absolutely stellar. They saw where every needs the view cannot be beat of the harbor. If you can get a seat at Sunset. It would be absolutely wonderful.

Try hard Michelin Star - DO NOT GO THERE The group I went with were getting started with the typical three breads. When I was eating one of them, I felt some slippery and hard feeling until I realized it was a plastic wrapper INSIDE the bread that I was chewing on. I called a server about this, she snatched away the plate, never letting me a chance to take a photo for evidence, and let us know that she will bring a manager. The manager didn't come to the table for 15 minutes, I lost my appetite, and wanted to leave. The manager brought new plate of bread, saying that it was just a "human error" and would try their best to make the rest of the dining experience pleasurable. She didn't really apologize and implied that I just eat the new bread. I told her I lost my appetite and am not willing to eat anymore, but she tried to make us stay after already ruining the mood. They invited us to come back, but we do not plan to come back at all. How is this restaurant a Michelin 1 Star when they have SANITARY ISSUES and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE? They don't even deserve such rating.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely stunning view.
Don't think you could go wrong with any of the seats at this restaurant! From the windowed elevator up to the seat, always a great view. Opted for the tasting menu and wine pairing. Menu included many dishes but the absolute show stopper for me had to have been the bison. Everything was great, but the bison for me was beyond exceptional. Service flowed well and servers and sommelier was great at explaining every dish/wine that was served.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food with amazing view.
However this restaurant doesn't feel like a Michelin 1 star. Food was pretty standard and not very creative. The service was just so so - I had to pour my own wine couple times and the timing of each course was very inconsistent.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, average food.
We got the tasting menu and were very disappointed. I love seafood and this menu is based on a lot of it but some dishes were disgustingly fishy, almost close to spoilage. The cocktails were incredible and some of the food courses too. But more of the food courses were unappetizing than incredible. I wish we were seated on a better side of the window but what we got wasn't bad either but the decor and ambiance great. Might just go back for cocktails and dessert

Fancy dinner for the wife and I's first post baby trip without our child, and it was delightful. The views of Lake Ontario with planes landing just outside the restaurant coming into Billy Bishop City Airport made for amusement as we worked our way through the A la Carte menu. We both enjoyed a cocktail with bread service and our first courses. Then we were treated to an experience when we ordered a bottle of wine when the sommelier handled with aplomb. We will definitely return on our next trip to Toronto.

It is at the top of the Westin Harbour Castle. We were seated at a booth with an amazing view of the water and the city with the CN Tower in the background. You can order an 8 course tasting menu or the 3 course a la carte. We decided to go with the a la carte. We had the Ontario wagyu beef tenderloin carpaccio, seared Quebec Muscovy duck breast and the eel gelato and sturgeon caviar as the antipasti. We had the risotto with sliced veal shank and the ravioli stuffed with west coast crab as the primi (pasta dish) and the bison tenderloin wrapped in layered Swiss chard and buffalo mozzarella and the Japanese wagyu ribeye as the main course. We started with fresh brioche, bread stick and focaccia with whipped truffle butter and olive oil. The bread and the whipped truffle butter was so good. The amuse bouche was called Italy in a bite. We also had the La Sfogliatella Napoletana - layers of phyllo cinnamon infused pastry cream for dessert in addition to the petit fours. The service was top notch and we were given a card and a bottle stopper for our anniversary. Definitely understand why this was awarded a Michelin star.

I personally think that the Michelin Guide is either a hit or miss. Some places I'm like YAAS so deserving, others I'm thinking... but how. This evening we opted for the tasting menuCollection of canapes: These reminded me of Chinese shrimp crackers with various types of tartare ontop. The first two bites were a little gamey and flavor wise not excitingL'anguilla: This is one of their signatures with the eel sauce, caviar and a single bite of tagliatelle. The eel was creamy with lots of flavor but the tagliattelle felt like it had been sitting out for too long, it was just a lump of cold noodleL'anatra: This duck breast was tender and juicy but there was so much going on. There was apple puree, spinach, balsamic vinager, cinnamon and a powdered herb. I thought these flavors were confusing togetherVermicelli Allo Sgombro: This was a fish pasta with mackeral, caramelized onions, tuna sauce with pine nuts sprinkled ontop. This was probably my favorite dish of the lineup as the flavors complemented each otherIl Rombo: This next dish was just fish with sauce, the sauce was nice but nothing special in terms of the cooking method or the flavors of the fishIl Bisonte: This was a lean cut of meat (tenderloin). I didn't think that the thin layers of mozzerella or swiss chard added much to the flavorsIl Trionfo All Nicciola: This was delicious! The hazelnut was smooth and crunch inside gave it dimensionsPetit Fours: We were told this was a "special dessert" for the birthday girl but realized that it was already on the menu. The macaroons were hard, the truffles were meh, the only decent thing were the pistachio pops.Even before we got the food I noticed a few red flags. The first being that the silverware were supposed to be all black but looked hella worn, dented, bent as if they've been used a looooong time or were just cheap and the color came off. I also noticed all the food was lukewarm or even cold when it came out. Even though the overall service was good, I was highly disappointed in the food experience. They didn't deserve a star and I don't plan on revisting

This harbourfront Italian restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in the Toronto 2022 guide. They specialized in a modern mediterranean menu that can either be set or a la carte. We opted for their signature tasting menu to get a try and experience for many of the dishes. This tasting menu had 8 courses including dessert. The first dish was a cold dish, a collection of canapés, that came with 4 selections. We didn't find much difference in taste between them, but appreciated the assortment. The second dish - L'Anguilla - was a pasta dish that was visually appealing. It came with an eel gelato topped off with caviar, and tagliatelle. The flavouring was nice, but the dish was cold. The third dish - L'Anatra - was one of more favourited item. Here, seared duck breast was paired with baby spinach and an apple purée. We enjoyed the flavour combo as the apple complimented the fattiness of the duck. The fourth dish - I Vermicelli Allo Sgombro - was another pasta dish. Vermicelli pasta served with mackerel, and topped with pine nuts and onions. This dish wasn't to our personal preferences, as we found the pasta tasteless and mackerel super overpowering when paired together. The fifth fish - Il Rombo - was our least favourite dish of the night. A turbot fish paired with mugnaia sauce. The last dish - Il Bisonte - was a steak tenderloin wrapped in cheese. We found this dish cold, and pretty flavourless. As for desserts - Il Trionfo All Nocciola & Chef Selection of Petit Four - were all mediocre at best. We are big dessert fans, but none of these desserts hit for us. All in all, this restaurant was just for experience and we wouldn't go back otherwise. Most of our dishes were cold, and some of our plates were missing the smaller components such as sauces and garnishes.

Excellent dining experience! Loved the views of the city from the top floor of the Westin Harbour Castle. The service was possibly the finest I've ever had as the waiters took time to explain every dish and set every piece of cutlery and dinnerware to perfection. My fiancee and I decided to try their a la carte menu. I got the muscovy duck breast as a appetizer. I loved the cook of the breast and the apple puree it came with. My first entree was the risotto while my second entree was the bison tenderloin. I loved the saffron broth that came with the risotto. It was my first time trying bison but I was not disappointed. It was cooked rare and was very juicy and came with some vegetables cooked to perfection. For dessert, we ordered the hazelnut parfait. We loved it and also got a bonus "dessert" consisting of a plate of various sweets on a deep plate with dry ice in the centre. I should also add that we received a complimentary amuse bouche (caprese salad) and a selection of bread as part of the meal. This was a great experience and I highly recommend it if you have the budget.

Food: 4Decor: 4Service: 5Came here for a work dinner with a colleague. We opted for the a la carte option, which was 140 CAD. The restaurant has 1 Michelin star.L' ANGUILLAEEL GELATO, STURGEON CAVIAR, WILD ROSE SCENTED TAGLIATELLE, PULVERIZED EGG YOLK, MINCED WILD HERBS Pretty good. Interesting flavors and texture with the eel gelato and rose tagliatelle. Creative and interesting dish overall.I RAVIOLIRAVIOLI STUFFED WITH WEST COAST CRAB IN MEDITERRANEO STYLE RAGU, CRISPY CRAB LEGS AND CACIO & PEPE SAUCEPretty good. Tasty crab ravioli with ragu, and the legs were nice and crunchy. Great pasta dish.IL MANZO35 DAY DRY AGED JAPANESE WAGYU RIB-EYE, CHARRED ARTICHOKE, ROMAN STYLE ARTICHOKE AND LIGHT GARLIC SAUCEPretty good. Rib-eye was cooked perfectly, and the artichoke and sauce complemented it well. Service was solid. They even gave us a tour around the restaurant at the end with a piece of chocolate, which was a very nice touch. Overall a good meal.
Be the first to ReplyOverall a pretty good experience.
opted for the signature tasting menu that cost $225 per person. Also ordered a half bottle of wine for $69. After tax and tip, the meal cost about $700 for 2 give or take. The food itself was well done with some good flavours and textures. The food itself is more on the traditional side, with fresh ingredients focused on elevated Italian flavours. My personal favourite dishes were the L'anguilla (eel gelato with wild rose scented tagliatelle) and Il Bisonte (Bison tenderloin). The view was pretty good, you either see the lake or the city.Overall service was quite good, although I did find it odd that our "main" server would come and go and we would be served by other servers periodically. Having been to many fine-dining establishments around the world, I did find this odd.Definitely come here for a good fine-dining meal, but I would say that the flavours are definitely more on the "conservative" side. Everything is delicious but for those looking for flavours that are exotic and unexpected, I can't say your mind will blown if you dine here. But you can only judge for yourself!Cheers.

I was excited to visit this restaurant, with its many accolades. The elevator ride up to the restaurant was a nice touch. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space with sweeping views. The service is attentive but kind of slow, I'm not sure if this is because we were in the lounge. The food, while of good quality was not particularly stand out at all. The highlight was the dessert. The appetizers, pasta dishes and main dishes were high quality ingredients but not inspiring or particularly that good.Overall, wasn't that impressed for this restaurant. Cool venue/views but I don't think I would come back.

This is a Michelen star, high end restaurant! The food quality is pretty good. Unfortunately the service is very poor. We reserved a table for two for my birthday next to the window a week before but once we arrived the hostess said that we dont have a table there and you have to sit at the lounge area. Unfortunately, the menu is different in the lounge and there is no set menu. The manager never apologized and said it's mot our fault. Technically "it's what it is... take it or leave it!"Still, the waiter was very friendly but overall the experience was not satisfactory.

The big question is whether it lives up to its name and reputation in its new location at Westin? And it's a YES! Great food, service and chalk in fantastic views and you have all the elements of a great experience that is worthy of its reputation! And Michelin star!! Great place for special occasions for sure! But make sure you make reservations ahead of time. Make it easy and just order the tasters menu and hold on for an exciting ride is the best suggestion! Totally loved the experience and will be booking another visit shortly!
