One of my favourite meals i've ever had in TO.
Our server walked us through and coursed out the menu, which we really appreciated. everything he brought out was better than the last. Highly Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFriday Girls Night.
Arrived at 6:15PM on a mild sunny Friday, so yes, in half an hour we noticed that this place was already full! It was a tiny place, and we were seated at a small table. Worried - "is this table big enough? "- as we were so eager to try variety of dishes and drinks! But no worries... The reasons are following: Before food arrived, we enjoyed cocktails. - Doctor's Order : tangy robust cocktail with citrus and ginger profile with a not too thin, not too strong amount of booze. Served as a nice aperitif! - Vermuta Triangle: Served in an old fashioned glass, taste was like an on-the-rock fusion with cassis/orange aftertone. Although I personally like it boozier but it was good nontheless. Food: we had, #1. Beef Tartar on Latkes : The latkes came in a little cube shape that had nice crispiness on the every corner. The tartar on top is creamy with an appropriate tanginess with fresh / aromatic veggie crispiness. Loved this. Must order. #2. Pieuvre: Grilled Octopus. It was super tender, perfectly charred, seasoned with zesty, heart-healthy, aromatic vinaigrette sauce. The fresh red cabbage pieces and other sprout-y veggies on top of it integrated into the sauce and gave the tender octopus a nice texture. #3. Bar Raye (Main): Pan seared seabass with charred cauliflower underneath with tangy sauce. Very good. Crisply fried skin and juicy fish meat. Packed with flavor. #4. Pommes Dauphine: MUST ORDER. It is crisp potato puffs served with this creamy trout roe paste with a hint of caper. We additional-ordered this item because the couple next to us had it and it looked sooooo nice. And yes, it was an eye-opening one. We had 4 different kinds of glass wine, and we especially liked GW Lazy Wine Maker (Light Red). It is red but served chill. Great with all the dishes we had. Matthias Hager Grüner (White) was nice with a subtle yet distinct sweetness and uniquely refreshing. This was also great with food. The place is a high end French restaurant but the atmosphere was quite casual, the servers were there in casual t-shirts and I saw couples, groups, family (adult). Every dish was served well-timed with perfect order, so the table was never overcrowded. :) The serving dishes were changed at the right timing. Very pleasant dining experience.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner, special occasion (my birthday)! The ambiance is very cute. It feels casual yet classy. Everyone is dressed pretty casual, but it has an intimate vibe. We sat at the bar, where we could see the drinks and appetizers being prepared. However, we would have preferred a table as it wasn't the most comfortable and there wasn't a lot of space. Their menu changes often and they feature many local ingredients and suppliers which is nice. The waiter runs through the menu with you which is a nice touch to understand every dish. Scallops: One of my favourite dishes. They're placed ontop of these delicious green tomatoes. The scallops were fresh and had hints of acidity and spice which was really nice. Agnolotti: Tasty and filled with soo much ricotta. It had a lamb ragu sauce which was well made. Sausage: Made in house and has a delicious navy bean and vegetable sauce. Was a good sausage and nice with the navy bean and sauce. Lamb Chops: Tasty. The lamb felt like a steak to me tbh. Best eaten in combination with the cabbage, tastes better together than separately. The cabbage was a little too charred for my liking but my boyfriend liked it. Lemon Grapefruit Dessert: One of my other favourite dishes of the night, topped with a sparkler for my birthday! It was a combination of lemon sorbet on oats on one side, and peeled grapefruit topped with a fluffy torched meringue on the other. The combination and balance of the two were so good! One of my favourite desserts I've tried. TLDR: Stand out dishes were the scallops and the dessert (lemon and grapefruit dessert). The other dishes were prepared well, but nothing exceptionally memorable. It was a lovely dinner. Michelin Guide and on Canada's Top 100, it's bound to be pricey so I recommend saving this spot for a special occasion or a treat! I do think it's worth a try atleast once!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible attitude.
Not worth the hype and trouble. Other spots in Toronto much better and appreciate your time and dollars
Be the first to ReplyGreat quaint place.
Being from Montreal it took me back to the first days of Joe Beef. You can feel & taste of the passion that's put into every plate. When food is prepared with fresh ingredients & passion ressauts are always amazing. The staff is as amazing as the food.

A truly amazing dinner! The menu changes everyday, but everything we ate was great. Location: On College Street with minimal street parking. Easily accessible by TTC.Food: Each dish was so delicious! The ingredients were super fresh and each dish was complex. Everything our server recommended was great.Service: Service was a little slow, the restaurant was packed. There is a time limit so it was a little frustrating, but our server was also very nice.Atmosphere: we stopped by in September when you could still sit outside. The inside is quite crowded and more dimly lit. More difficult to have a conversation but nice for a date night. Can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyI didn't take a picture of the menu.
.. so I'll be using rudimentary names for the dishes. There were a few dishes I tried here.Scallops were good, but I wouldn't say it's a must order.Eggs were good bites, I liked them. The shrimp & tomato dish would've been really good if the tomatoes weren't so salted- it threw the balance of this dish off. The beef tartare dish was unbelievably salted. It was the beef in particular that was super salty- I had to drink a lot of water to take that taste out of my mouth. The Sweetbreads were the standout dish for me, it was a balanced dish- sweetbreads can be heavy but it was just enough that it didn't overwhelm me. I was quite full after this dish though.Cream puff was forgettable for me.Overall, I don't really know if I came on an off day. I'm surprised this restaurant is top 100. The amount of salt used in 2 of the dishes took away from the positives for me.

We had an amazing time here! Had the kohlrabi salad, tartare, potatoes and duck. Finished with chocolate ganache for dessert. Everything was exceptional including cocktails, service and ambience. Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyIf you are looking for a restaurant that is on Canada's 100
If you are looking for a restaurant that is on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in Toronto, either you are prepared to pay $200 per person or you have to line up starting at 4pm for dinner. We finally found Dreyfus which can take dinner reservations at 5:30pm, which is early, but okay if the food is good. Please make sure you match with the street number as this restaurant does not have any signage, I almost ran upstairs to a guitar shop. The food have not disappointed us and all reasonably priced. We ordered "tomatoes & shrimps salad" with thinly sliced green tomatoes dashed with first grade olive oil, Sweet Bread with crunchy oats, Squash, and Pork Medallion, finished with Cream puff. Every dish is elevated with fine presentation. For the 2 of us, we paid about $180 including tax and gratuities. Servers are friendly yet professional, worth paying good gratuities!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service, and a cozy interior.
Also, 15th on Canada's best 100 list.I liked it. You try it for yourself.bon appétit!
Be the first to ReplyGreat little restaurant on Harbord.
Busy place and tightly packed seating, so a bit noisy during dinner time, plus the AC wasn't in top notch condition. Food was good, not OMG, but good. Wine list was interesting and well thought out. Service was great. Glad I tried it, was on the TO bucket list.
Be the first to ReplyFood was particularly bad.
First time I personally ever had to send a dish back. Despite the barely edible food, the staff were excellent and tried their best. Drinks were great and loved the ambience. Prices are very high for what it is. Unfortunately, would never come back.
Be the first to ReplyA nice intimate (easily missable on the street) restaurant.
I love places that have many dishes that are intended for sharing. The staff was all really accommodating, generous with their time, and friendly. The vibe of the restaurant was dark-lit, date night with a nice chill vibe for those who want something that is easy going. The food was all really exceptional. Not a single item was not tasty. There was a really good variety of flavors, textures, and dining experiences. There are fried items, items that are fresh, seasonal items. The only downside is that the items tend to be on the smaller portion size, so don't come if you are starving and this is your first meal of the day.
Be the first to ReplyI love any restaurant that is hard to find.
The food was also good! The menu rotates so I'm not sure if talking about the specific plates would help- but we had about four appetizer ish dishes and one main, and we were super full. We loved the in-house stuff- they did a smoked salmon, in house, which was so delicious! The service was also excellent. The interior is eclectic and out of a garage sale which I love... but some people wouldn't like that. One other thing I didn't like and some people wouldn't like is that maybe they don't care what music they play.... We had Shaina Twain at one point and some really strange hard rock at another point. Maybe it's a statement??? It was really weird. Lol. It was different! And yes I will remember that. All in all we will definitely go back to try more creations. Generous portions, good pricing, and also gone are the hand written French menus- sad a little, but service was fast and food came out at good times- I feel like they've adjusted well to the Toronto clientele. Good job! Stay forever please!
Be the first to ReplyThe service at this place is beyond incredible.
One of the most pleasant dining experiences we've ever had based on the staff. The food was also excellent with some really interesting choices that were very unique. Loved it!

Had an amazing dinner here in August on their curbside patio. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The wait staff are super attentive and knowledgeable in wines, our waiter asked what we like and what we are in the mood for, brought out three options for us to consider and explained them very well. Ended up drinking 2 bottles and both were absolutely delicious and went well with the food. For food, we had the cauliflower, escargots with tomatoes, lake trout and pork terrine. Every single dish was delicious! Will definitely come back here again

Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, sweet place.
Crowded and a bit congested. Wines service is obnoxious and uncomfortable. There is no list, the waiter chooses 3 bottles he thinks would suit you and proceeds to describe them and their prices. Tables are very close together in a small space. Waiters and guests need to squeeze by each other. Bottles and waiters jostle back and forth. This is repeated every few minutes with every new arrival. I would like to choose my wine and cocktail with a larger perspective of what is available.

..What I liked most about the menu was that it didn't stray from that authentic Montreal feeling. No more than 14 handwritten daily offerings, displayed en français, ranging in price from $5 to $57. Kolomeir sources many of the ingredients from local suppliers. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable (offering to translate, if required) and recommended that we choose five plates to share. From my perch on the rather uncomfortable bar stool, I had been eyeing the Oeufs à la Lyonnaise ($14), and when they arrived, I was glad I did as it provided the comfort I was seeking. My first bite transported me to a French bistro -- the umami from the hard-boiled eggs and creaminess from the thick dollop of mayonnaise were a match made in paradis. Rather than being a traditional Lyonnaise salad with a warm poached egg, this assiette was served as a cold, complete with frisée and a sprinkle of lardons for added texture. When I asked about the monogrammed plate and its meaning, the server explained that it had been acquired during an antique hunt, and its meaning was a mystère. At $14 per plate and only 1.5 eggs (cut in half), the price-to-portion ratio was a little high..."

I had the most difficult time finding this place as the sign is not very prominent on the outside but wow am I glad I made my reservation.Getting a reservation for Dreyfus is difficult, as the interior is small and they have very few tables. They are tightly packed so it's a very intimate setting, perfect for a date or a small celebration. The servers are VERY knowledgeable about the menu (which constantly changes), and are helpful in making recommendations if you are unsure of what you want to order. The menus are in french, but your server will translate and explain each item on the menu. We tried the steak tartare, crab cakes, and potato croquettes to start. I can't pick a favorite because they were all amazing. So flavorful and carefully put together. The crab cakes were probably 90% crab, which made it so worth it. The portion sizes are relatively small, so I'd recommend ordering multiple dishes and sharing. For entrees, we had the duck breast and schnitzel. The duck breast was served with a sauce that I have no words for. It was incredibly savory and the duck almost melted in your mouth. Amazing. The schnitzel was of a type of flat fish (I can't remember which), and while I'm not normally a fan of fish, I devoured half of this dish without any hesitation as it was that delicious. This is definitely a special occasion type of restaurant for me as our bill came to about $250 for two people (granted, we tried a lot and had a couple drinks), but it was worth every penny. Do yourself a favor, make a reservation and give Dreyfus a try.

In what can only be expected of a Joe Beef expat, Dreyfus' French inspired menu is carefully curated to ensure each dish is as innovative as it is packed with flavor. From pommes dauphine, to trout crusted with jalapeno and cauliflower, to fresh madeleines with honey, Dreyfus' nightly rotating selections are sure to impress. Where the restaurant excels in ingredients and taste, so too does it impress in service. Its extremely personable staff members are both knowledgeable and attentive. The only downside is the absence of a wine menu. For those who wish to order a glass or bottle, recommendations are made based on the entrée of choice. This is certainly a detail that can be overlooked given that Dreyfus boasts one of the best dining experiences in the city.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is SICKENING.
The owner (Zach) was the chef at Joe Beef. He cancelled my reservation on me last minute at Dreyfus and told me "I do not care". It was a very special occasion. Then his staff (his girlfriend, how unprofessional) harassed me on Instagram calling me entitled for expecting my reservation, and lied to me, telling me that I called a bunch of times bothering the restaurant to get my reservation which was definitely not the case. See the screenshots. Then, the owner of Joe Beef apologized on behalf of Zach and Dreyfus. See screenshots for that too. He acknowledged that I fell through the cracks in terms of customer service. How pathetic is it Zach can't apologize on his own and needs the owner of Joe Beef to clean up his mistakes???? This restaurant thinks it is amazing but it has a lot to learn in terms of how it treats people.
