Driftwood Truro Reviews from The Last Year
Wonderful stay
We have today returned from a wonderful few days at the Driftwood hotel. The staff are amazing and can’t do enough to help you. Stuart on reception was so helpful and obliging and always seems to be on duty. The breakfast staff are also very friendly and efficient and the breakfast itself was one of the best breakfasts we have had in a very long time. We were in room 2 which had the most spectacular views from three large picture windows. Stunning! The hotel is situated just above the beach and even though it was chilly we took a walk down there. We were visiting friends in the area who had just opened an amazing art gallery in St Mawes and we will definitely be coming back to the Dritftwood soon. A memorable visit to a beautiful part of the country.
Relaxing hideaway
My husband and I have just come back from two nights winder get away to The Driftwood Hotel . The location of the hotel is spectacular even in winter as it outlooks gardens, beach and the massive expansive sea ! The hotel is very comfortable and homely . The staff are kind , friendly and professional and take pride in their jobs. We had room 2 in the main house which had 3 windows to enjoy the views . The chef produced delicious breakfasts & dinners for us ( we ate in both nights which was perfect after a day out walking and exploring the local towns . We would highly recommend and hope to return to enjoy The Hotel in the sunshine too .
Afternoon tea
I went with my friend for afternoon tea. It was absolutely amazing! The hotel has such a cozy, relaxing, peaceful ambiance. The owners are really good with the interior design. The views are stunning, the food was great and the whole team really friendly. The journey was definitely worth it. We will be back 😊
Dreamy Location
Stayed here for two nights as we ticked off walking the South West Coastal Path from St Anthony to Portloe. Perfect location with views to match. The dinner was spectacular and breakfast wide ranging and delicious. The service was impeccable and so friendly. Will be back.
Very special place and a fabulous stay
We will absolutely be coming back to this hotel. Staff, service, views and food were all perfect, thank you! We had a really excellent dinner, the wine list was interesting and very well done. Breakfast plentiful and very good. We were sorry to be only staying one night - would recommend for a couple of days to thoroughly unwind or for a special treat.
Lovely Hotel in idyllic position - we’ll be back!
Gorgeous hotel. Beautiful location. Friendly, helpful staff. Really lovely restaurant with amazing ambience and beautiful views. Expensive though and the menu doesn’t change if you’re there for a week. Bathroom small. Bed very comfortable. GREAT!!!
Room with a view
This hotel is a rare find. From the welcome showed too my wife and myself from the staff, to the magnificent room with a view. This was the perfect addition to our tour around Cornwall and Devon. The Driftwood may be best described as an adult hotel because I think it can only be appreciated by those persons requiring calmness and tranquillity along with excellent food and wine. If we ever have the opportunity to stay here again, we would certainly make the effort.
Return visit
We stayed at The Driftwood 6 years ago & had a lovely experience. We recently visited for dinner whilst on holiday, although the hotel & restaurant was as lovely as we remembered it, we left slightly disappointed with the dining experience. Front of house were welcoming & friendly but I don't like to see staff looking at their phones in a small intimate restaurant. The food we felt was average & the portion sizes were more akin to a tasting menu as opposed to the 3 course menu The Driftwood offers which we felt wasn't good value for money. The menu was also limited on choice which in itself isn't a problem but unfortunately the dishes on offer were very uninspiring. This experience won't stop us visiting again & just hope that the food lives up to the wonderful hotel that The Driftwood it is.
A slice of Paradise
Our second visit in two years and hopefully won't be the last. Amazingly beautiful hotel set in the most idyllic setting imaginable. Breakfast that are just fabulous and extremely comfortable rooms all go to make this the a wonderful place just to chill and totally relax. It's not the place if you are looking for a fast pace and night life but if you want superb quality in a peace of paradise you won't go wrong. However what makes this hotel so very special are the wonderful staff from the top down who truly just go out of their way to be as helpful and lovely as you could ever possibly wish for.
Another wonderful visit to The Driftwood
We have been visiting The Drifwood for many years now and were delighted to find that yet again standards have been maintained. We were particularly impressed with the professionalism of the staff who went about their duties unobtrusively but with friendliness and politeness. Some of the noteworthy dishes we tried were a lobster starter, a troncon of turbot to share, a deliciously tender lamb dish and a clotted cream ice desert with meringue shards and strawberries in a strawberry and elderflower coulis. Being able to enjoy meals on the terrace was an added bonus as the weather was so pleasant.
Location...Location....
I wanted to like this hotel but found what I liked was the location more than the hotel itself. I did not eat here (which seemed to disappoint them!) and so my review is only based on the room and general ambience. Firstly, the rooms in summer are stuffy because the "picture" windows do not allow any air in, only the tiny fanlights above actually open, there is no air con in the rooms at all. Secondly, as some other travellers have noted the rooms are tired, stains on the ceiling, a toilet handle that felt like it might fall off at any moment and chipped paint on the windowsills. Thirdly, I could hear the extraction units working until 11pm at night, the persistent drone of which was irritating when reading or trying to sleep. Anywhere else all of this might be acceptable but guests are paying over the odds for this hotel. Strangely, there are no tea/coffee trays in the rooms. These have to be "requested" (and then are removed presumably) or you can have one delivered before breakfast if you choose. This annoyed me personally as I don't want to be forced to commune with my fellow travellers (nice as they were) in the lounge for afternoon tea, nor do I want to be woken at 7:55 with a tray which is subsequently removed. The check out process was delayed as the person who had the appropriate permissions to do so wasn't on site. I wanted to leave early due to a long journey so wasn't hugely impressed but equally, and to be fair, I should probably have mentioned it the night before. Something Driftwood is keen to mention is the beach access. It could be a lovely beach but when I was there it was smelly with decaying seaweed, bits of net, the ubiquitous plastic (sadly) and small dead marine animals washed up with the tide. Much could be done to clean it up and I certainly would not advise anyone to swim from here based on my own experiences. All in all, if this hotel was in the centre of Plymouth or Truro it would simply be average. It is the location and proximity to the coast path that gives it it's kudos.

Newbie here. Was just curious what it means when it says that someone is working on your bid?

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
