Excellent Mexican Food
We used their Taco Bar service for a Christmas party in December. We selected the Carne Asado, Pollo Asado, and the El Pastor as the primary meals. My guests has a blast creating their own tacos and plates with all the trimmings that came with the order. The restaurant provided Christmas color chips for the salsa, which made it even more festive. To top it all, the price was exellent for the amount of food we ordered. They only minor glitch was they were so busy that I really had to keep track of my order and receive all the food I had ordered.

El Nopalito is a spinoff of the Mercado that is adjacent. All foods are prepared fresh and is excellent. While there, walk across the parking lot and visit the market for a feel of the authentic Mexican Mercado.

This has long been a local favorite of many. The menu is standard fare but very dependably good. We have also used their catering for parties with street tacos made on the spot. Great fun.
Mexican food
We saw this place on TV (Finnish broadcast) and decided to visit as we were looking for Mexican food. We had fish taco, taco pastor, salsa fresca and ceviche. Taco pastor was really tasty, fish taco quite average, salsa fresca quite alright and the ceviche was really Mexican. We are more used to Chilean ceviche. There were lot of people eating so I believe they serve pretty authentic Mexican food.

My husband and I went for a snack dinner. The place is not fancy but the food we ordered was made fresh and was tasty. There were some prepared foods in warming dishes that looked like it had sat awhile. Service at counter was pleasant. There were lots of Mexican clientele. Food was a little spiced for my husband. The attendant who checked up on us told my husband he could have ordered “sin” spice, without spice. We found out after we ordered that they make a cactus dish. We will return and and try other dishes next time.

Long time resident of the area. Unique in its variety of Mexican “stews”, mole, Barbacoa-like dishes w rice & tortillas. Mostly take out business. Standard variety of burritos, etc.

We love chips, salsa, and guac from El Nopalito so we finally decided to visit their little restaurant in Encinitas... and we loved their chips, salsa, and guac. However, neither the hubby nor I was that impressed with their tacos. They were good but not great. Maybe the chips and salsa just had our expectations too high. Maybe we didn't order the best things on the menu. In any case, we will just stick with buying their chips, salsa, and guac at the grocery.

We've been buying their salsa at Daniells Market in Bonsall and have been dying to try their food as the salsa and carrots en escabeche are phenomenal. The food over delivered well beyond my expectations. I had shredded chicken tacos and al pastor taco. Both were the best I've had in a while. We will definitely be back and I would totally recommend this place.

Sometimes all that you want is to eat good food. El Nopalito is there for you at those times, delivering tasty and generous helpings of Mexican food at very reasonable prices. A comfortable but plain setting for dining in, the restaurant also serves many take out diners as well. Ordering is done at the counter (often after standing in line, because this place is popular!), and your order is called out when it is ready for you to pick it up. Beers and cold drinks are in coolers for your selection, as are take out containers of their justly famous salsas. Tortillas are homemade every day, and they are the substantial flavorful real deal. My carnitas tostada was piled high with tasty moist shredded pork, some tomato and lettuce garnish and a substantial dollop of guacamole on top. It was all that I could eat for dinner--at $4 a serving!
Are there candidates for better Mexican food in the target rich San Diego area? Of course! But if what you want is that particular combination of high quality, value, and total authenticity, stop by El Nopalito soon--and often. Just off the I5 to the east at Santa Fe Drive exit in North County
