A cut above your average Mexican restaurant
We struggled to get a table here at 5.30 pm and ended up waiting 30 minutes eventually deciding to eat at the bar - which was a good decision. The 2 guys at the bar were absolutely fantastic and really looked after us. Food is excellent - the best Fajitas I’ve ever had. Beautifully spiced and plenty of chicken (which is the expensive ingredient) the food was fabulous. If you can get a table here do so - you will not be disappointed

This was by far our fav meal in Sedona. The salsa was unique and tasty, and the namesake elote dish rocked, as did the tomato and nopales salad. My partner, a foodie, absolutely loved his smoked pork cheeks. The romaine salad was a bit overdressed for my liking, and the corn desert was only okay, but the other dishes compensated easily for these small deficiencies. I’d note that our reso was 8:15pm (only one we could get). We called and called to see if we could get in earlier, but never got through. Finally we just showed up early and were immediately seated…
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Carne Asada! I read about this restaurant in Moon Rt 66 guide. Best Carne Asada I have ever had!
We tried to make a reservation on the day we arrived. I didn’t notice that the Open Table reservation they gave me was for May! Luckily for us, when we arrived for what I thought was our 6:30 reservation, someone else canceled so they could fit us in. I asked for the steak to be medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. My husband got the smoked brisket enchiladas. His meal was great too. He also liked the Margarita special and I enjoyed a delicious glass of Red wine. The chef/owner came to the table to ask if we liked our meal. Nice touch! I highly recommend!

What a lucky find. We happened onto Elote Cafe almost by accident. It was very busy even at 5 pm but fortunately they had 2 bar seats available. We went against our rules of not ordering multiple appetizers instead of mains as we’re all too often disappointed with some of the choices made. We were not disappointed. First we started with the daily special blood orange Margarita. It was a bit pricey but very good. The gratis house tortilla chips and salsa were top notch. The appetizers arrived in twos and spaced sufficiently to allow time to eat the first two. The beet salad and the guacamole dip were delicious. The beet salad was perfect and refreshing. The guacamole also was delicious with large chunks of avocado instead of it all being smashed into a paste. The green corn tamale and fish tacos followed. The tamale was perfectly steamed and flavourful. The tacos were generous and used sea bass which was far better than some fish tacos that often use boring flavourless fish. Our seats afforded us a view of the bar action and the restaurant. The employees clearly knew how to run this place while being excellent hosts to their guests. We went in hungry and left more than satisfied and all within less than 1 hour.

YUM! I had seen this restaurant on a few tik toks and it did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation, so we had to sit outside. There were heaters and blankets to use. We ordered guacamole and the bowl was huge. It was really good. My daughter and I shared the smoked brisket enchiladas and they were amazing. I had the highlands margarita and it was so good. Highly recommend.

An awesome meal and Johnny was superb at recommendations and service. We had the Tamale appetizer and the smoked pork cheeks for dinner. Both were excellent. The only complaint we had was that we did not take the opportunity to go back for another meal.
Be the first to ReplySlightly overpriced, but the taste factor is exceptional.
A little overpriced for the Mexican dishes they're serving, but understandable because of the prestige of the location. I love their twist on the Southwest-Mexican flavors. the cocktail of the day which is white peach margarita is $16 for the glass?!!! Too overpriced. However, I loved the lamb adobo which I had a very huge portion! Complex flavors. The buffalo mole poblano is ok, but expected a richer mole! The elote dip is SUBLIME as well as the tomato-nopales salad. The service is very kind and attentive, the ambiance is posh and cozy. Great great experience

We called to see if we could somehow get a reservation and were able to get a seat at the bar. The food was amazing! We highly recommend this restaurant. Reservations are needed and they were booked a month in advance. Plan accordingly. A foodies must!

This was an excellent experience – outstanding food and nice service. We tried a couple of appetizers but if you have to pick just one get the queso: for this Texan, the Arizona style was something I’d rather have going-forward it was that good. The salsa was outstanding, also. Try the slow cooked beef rib quesadilla or the chicken enchiladas and you can’t go wrong. We liked it so much we bought both of their cookbooks! One note of caution – reservations are booked two months in advance. DO NOT use Open Table to make your reservation as it will make a reservation for you on a different day than you picked. That happened to us and the staff said it is a known problem with Open Table. We had to wait for quite a bit in order for a table to open up but they were able to accommodate us.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent but extremely hard to get in
This is my favorite Sedona restaurant but it can be a frustrating experience getting in or even getting takeout. Though they advertise you can call as early at 3:00 to place a takeout order, for 2 hours the phone is busy, busy, and you can't get through. If you go in person to the place, you can't get in. After 5:00 you get a recorded message. I'm not sure how you manage to place a takeout order (and they limit the number of takeout orders they serve) but I will try again today. It's always a highlight of my visits here.

What a super place to eat. Our server was great. We bought 2 of the chef's cookbooks and he came by and personally signed them. How nice to have a personal touch. My tamale was great and my husband's relleno was outstanding. This restaurant knows how to do it!!

Was recommended by a friend. Meal was outstanding in all aspects. Both the lamb and steak were cooked to perfection. The signature margaritas were delicious. The service was perfect from the moment we walked in. Definitely recommend a reservation, best to call. If you can't get a table, they have carryout.
Be the first to ReplyYes, it IS as fabulous as everyone says!
I ate here nine years ago and it was top of mind for my recent trip to Sedona. (If you’re dying to go back to a place after 9 years, that’s saying something!) The food is delicious, the margaritas are very fresh, and the elote appetizer might be the best appetizer I’ve ever had! I highly recommend. As others have said, make your reservation well in advance. We made ours three weeks out and, even then, our options were limited.

From the moment we were greeted by Armando at the bar area we felt that we had arrived at the destination we anticipated. The Luxury Margarita was fitting for the title - delish! The chips and salsa were so fresh! Our entrees - the Carne Asada and the Smoked Brisket were wonderful. Can’t wait until we can visit again!

Our dinner at Elote Cafe was unique and delicious. Our server, Jose, was extremely gracious and knowledgeable in explaining the menu and helping us choose our dishes. The service from Jose, and the rest of the staff, was outstanding.

Easily one of the best restaurants not only in Sedona but anywhere. I wish we would have ate here every night and just tried different entrees. Cancel your other reservations and eat here for sure.
Be the first to ReplyI might have ordered the wrong meal!
They have the best chips & salsa & it’s free! The drinks are excellent! My carne asada, although beautifully plated is just mediocre. My dessert is heavy. I think it’s pricey here! I might give it another chance. Needs to reserve, small resto but kind of popular in Sedona. I might give it another try when in Sedona

Not planning to go to Arizona soon, but taken with their libations, I contacted them for a recommendation/recipe on their margarita....within a day, they shared their recipe. Will definitely visit to thank staff on our trip out West, as the recipe remains one of our favorites when staying in these cold winter days.

We had chicken and brisket enchiladas. Generous portions and great service. Make sure to have a reservation or they may not have availability. If you can’t get a table online then call them. We called and were able to get a reservation at the bar even though online it said there wasn’t any a availability
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Mexican restaurants in the country.
The service was excellent and the ambience was fine. More importantly the food was some of the best Mexican food I've had. Even their salsa was exceptional. Three of us ate there and everyone was very pleased.

We are here the last night of our vacation - in which we ate at many of the “must do” stops in Sedona. Elote was hands down our favorite dinner! Make a reservation well in advance. We started with the margarita specials and Elote corn dip. I will be dreaming about this appetizer forever. We then shared the pork shoulder entree special, and finished with the corn cookies and cream ice cream dessert which was amazing. Our server Claire knew the entire menu very well and made spot- on recommendations. This place is special. Just go!

Probably the best Mexican food in the state!! Not your typical southwest Mexican fare. More like authentic Mexico!
