Highly recommend their set menu! The food is delicious and I love that they have a juice/non alcoholic pairing with their set menu. My favorites were the confit cod and hamachi. Everyone who serviced us was truly lovely and very knowledgeable of the menu.
Met a friend for drinks and bites at the bar.
Upon entering, I knew we were going to be in for a treat. The ambiance is lowkey, but very elegant. We ordered several things and asked our bartender what to pair them with - they should be sommelier's with how well they helped us! Wish I could remember their names, but it was overall fantastic. Highly recommend this place for great eats, amazing hangs, and lovers - my friend and I only got the great eats and that was more than we needed. Need to come back as soon as possible. Don't beat us to it!
I was extremely satisfied with my meal here.
Only thing from tasting menu I didn't care for was the duck tart. Waitress was a sweetheart. Service was simple, but don't mistake that for bad the servers placed for food explained the dish & didn't linger which was welcome. The cabbage was the highlight of the meal. I was nervous having never experiencing Scandinavian but it was extremely approachable. If possible I'd opt for a seat on the most western side as you'll be between the gorgeous fireplace on one side & the kitchen on the other albeit a small views. One course came with a decent sized piece of bread so I doubt you'll leave here hungry. In closing it's definitely not the best tasting menu but it also is one of the cheapest.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday.
It was delicious and the ambience was perfect.

We did a Friday night date to try the set menu and wine pairings. Our server Alexa was absolutely amazing. So personable and insane knowledge of menu & tastes. Made some wonderful recommendations! Absolutely worth the price for a wonderful experience from start to finish. Thank you Alexa!!
Awful.
Just........AWFUL. Went here with my partner for a lovely dinner for NYE 2023. We've looked at the menu in advance, and we were super excited to reserve a spot at a Michelin star spot for NYE. Little did we know that we should take our Thiazide diuretics (blood pressure medications) in advance, because the food here was extremely salty. Not just "American salty", but dip-the-food-in-the-dead-sea-waters-for-a-day kind of salty. Many of the dishes served to us we simply left on the plate. I told a kitchen staff that the dish was just awful, and he didn't really care - we still paid for it... We both are foodies - we love eating at new places, and never, ever return plates back to the kitchen. This was a first for us. The staff wasn't very pleasant, either. They avoided and communication when possible. The atmosphere was nice, and the decor is cool. That said, I can go to Anthropology or Crate and Barrel for that, and for free. I don't know how much money they paid (Yelp/Google) for the reviews, or how much they paid (Michelin) for the star, but they absolutely, 100% do not worth it. Will never go back, and will recommend everyone I know to avoid (unless they want a heart attack, of course).

Elske, borrowing its name from the Danish word "to love," a culinary hot spot in Chicago's West Loop, beckons with an enchanting entrance--a courtyard fireplace and candle-lit door--setting the tone for a special dinner. The open kitchen, my love language, reveals the culinary mastery of David and Anna Posey. Their modern American cuisine, infused with Danish influences, is a harmonious dance of simplicity and seasonality. The accolades speak volumes, with a Michelin Star gracing Elske every year from 2017 to 2023. The Poseys, a culinary power couple, have garnered recognition from the James Beard Awards, Jean Banchet Awards, and more. Anna Posey, the pastry virtuoso, has earned accolades like the Jean Banchet Award for Pastry Chef of the Year. David Posey, the Executive Chef, boasts a rich history, including a Michelin Star for Blackbird Restaurant and a James Beard Award Finalist for Rising Star Chef. Elske offers a curated tasting menu as well as à la carte options. The offerings are a celebration of love for gastronomy. This is not just dining; it's love shared to others made by a culinary duo whose passion and skill are evident in every dish. I'd say they got the name right!
Stunning.
Who knew risotto made with celery could be something you'd want to eat every single day. Elevated comfort food.
Upscale but intimate space with dimmed lighting.
It took about 10 minutes for a server to attend to me once seated, although the restaurant was not packed. I ordered the oat porridge sourdough with cultured koji butter as well as the smoked fjord trout with golden beets, orange, sesame and green tea. The sourdough was wonderfully warm, dense and nutty. The Koji butter was delightfully funky. The smoked fjord trout was unbelievably tender with a hint of smokiness cut through by the sweetness and tang of the citrus and beets. I was originally charged $30 for the trout, although the printed menu reflected a price of $29. I was told by the server that their system had been recently updated, although they did not update the printed menu. It was resolved quickly.

My wife and I ordered the set menu and wine tasting for my birthday and it was absolutely fantastic. I will be thinking about the duck tart and the swordfish for a long time. The dessert is primally cozy and I will be going back and asking for it when my bones are cold in February. All of the staff were lovely. They were warm and welcoming and obviously passionate. It is a really cute minimalist space and the fire outside really sets the location apart for fall and winter dining.
Best in class Nordic taste in Chicago
great fine dining option in Chicago, we visited Elske for our wedding anniversary celebration and enjoyed their great Nordic dishes in a Michelin style serving. Seabass is highly recommended
Unforgettable evening
Unforgettable evening with family to celebrate...life. The food was extraordinary- honestly. did not know striped bass could taste so amazing. The sunflower butter dessert - as per our server - was out of this world and so unusual (do not be deterred if you, like me, are not a fan of licorice). The maitake mushrooms, stracci with cherries, even something as simple as chicken, so original and full of unique flavors. There is something here for everyone- my very foodie family and less adventurous me (though Elska has inspired adventure). Beyond the food, the setting is lovely and quiet, and we spent 4 hours enjoying everything, the ambiance, the fire, the food, the wine, the impeccable service and above all being alive with people you love.
It wasn’t a meal, it was an experience. Wow. Elske 👍
Elske did not disappoint. Wow. It was tough to decide whether to take advantage of the beautiful courtyard dining option or watch the magic happen in the kitchen casually seated at the bar. Our delightful bartender made us happy we chose the bar and I suspect if we’d chosen the al fresco courtyard dining, something equally special would have occurred. We started with the Gouda and honey which proved Elske understands a little of something goes a long way in terms of flavor. The honey was an amazing accompaniment. Ahi was new that night to the menu and proved a great choice. My husband described the smoky flavor as a “wait for it” type moment, the flavors just kept coming. I had the confit maitake which was creamy and had great texture with fava beans. You’re making a mistake if you leave without dessert. We got to try all four and you can’t go wrong. Wow.
Michelin worthy food and service
I had a wonderful experience at Elske. Here are a few highlights of what I and my two dining partners had to eat: (1) Whitefish brandade with fried potato and trout roe. The brandade was a small rectangle crispy on the outside, soft and moist inside, with the roe garnish on top. The texture and flavor were both wonderful. (2) Veal sweetbreads with asparagus, watercress, and curried lime. The sweetbreads were cooked sous vide, then lightly coated with finely ground panko, then lightly fried to crisp the exterior. Heavenly! Some of the best sweetbreads I’ve ever had. (3) Fermented black bean agnolotti with spring peas, braised morels, and garlic chives. A light, very flavorful, thoroughly enjoyable preparation that shouted “Springtime.” We had seven other dishes shared between the three of us, and there wasn’t a loser, or even a mediocre dish, in the lot. They all were creative and prepared with great finesse. I had a cocktail to start (poblano tequila, mezcal, genepy, cream sherry) and, with our server's assistance, selected a bottle of Frenchtown Farms ‘Indigeaux’ to have with the meal. The cocktail was creative, complex, and balanced, The wine had good fruit without being overconcentrated. Both the cocktail and the wine were great choices. The service was also exceptional. Our server was very knowledgeable about all the dishes, cocktails, and wines, and the many dishes we ordered were expertly paced. Elske clearly deserves its Michelin star and, as a Seattle resident, I only wish that I didn’t have to wait for my next trip to Chicago to eat at Elske again.
