Elystan Street London Reviews from The Last Year
Great service but poor value for money.
Wonderful service, some of the portions were a bit small. Hugely expensive. In that sense, not good value. If you have an expense account, fine. If not, choose somewhere with better value for money.
Delicious food beautifully presented
A nice contemporary decor. We had the three Course lunch menu with the wine pairing. Every plate of food was beautifully presented and tasted every bit as good as it looked. The sommelier was really informative and we enjoyed tasting the different wines she paired for us. The only downside was that one of our party didn’t enjoy the desert wine chosen so we asked to change it and she seemed very affronted that we asked her to do so. Otherwise our experience would have been five stars but she made us feel very uncomfortable.
Reassuringly good contemporary dining
What a wonderful experience dinner was! What struck me was the attention to detail in everything - the unfussy decor, the way the menu was written, the cooking and presentation, the style of service. The style of the restaurant blends contemporary with old-school values of hospitality. In terms of service, I liked being able to have a discussion about wines that would suit our meal that was not about talking up the market (as it so often is). I particularly valued the vegetable entree (three kinds of courgette that showed the difference in flavour) dishes and the fish. This was short visit to London after a few years' gap, and I had had a couple of very ordinary meals. This was reassuringly good.
Super warm welcome
Fantastic Sunday lunch with excellent value menu. The team’s welcome was super warm. Great vibe…relaxed and ideal for a weekend outing.
A must for date night, we will definitely return.
5/5 A perfect date night in simple yet elegant surroundings with attentive service and sumptuous food. Charlie was a great host and was kind enough to pay for 2 glasses of wine which had taken a little while to arrive. The waiter, Louis (sorry I think that was his name, his Spanish accent may have been misunderstood by me) was excellent and had a good sense of humour too. The wine was delicious, we chose the Rose De Noirs from Roebuck estate in Sussex. The food, from the bread and olives to the desert was superb.
A must!
A perfect lunch! A beautiful restaurant, superb food and wonderful staff. Thank you to all the team FOH and BOH for looking after us.
Five Stars
Simply an amazing Sunday lunch produced by a very talented team. Elderflower hollandaise was a revelation - can't wait to visit again. Thank you for looking after us so perfectly,
Underwhelming
We found the food and experience to be rather disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful and the wine and drinks were superb but each course of the taster menu was beige and nothing was really a “showstopper”. The truffle pasta was nice but the pigeon and offal sausage was particularly underwhelming as a course and the dessert, whilst pleasant, looked like something they brought in and jazzed up. For the overall cost I won’t be recommending.
Unspectacular
Taramasalata dip was overly salty and unspectacular. The pasta starter was delicious. The turbot portion was extremely small for £50. The vegetables were sparse and dull. The presentation was ordinary. The celeriac purée was too runny. The hispi cabbage was almost raw and added nothing to the dish. The rhubarb sorbet was tasteless and the orange sorbet was too sugary. Tarte Tartin was delicious. The service from a new Spanish waiter was friendly and attentive. Despite clearly saying I had an allergy to mushrooms it was suggested from a different waiter that I might like the mushroom sauce on the side of the dish. An alternative sauce was not offered. There's a rigidity in their attitude towards flexibility between their menus. Overall I doubt that the Michelin star is fully deserved as too many small things were wrong. I was surprised to notice the sorbet was served on plastic plates. The restaurant design is spacious and comfortable with soft lighting. Two diners were extremely loud whilst talking to the chef. This was intrusive.
Fabulous!
We’d visited P Howard’s former restaurant, The Square, and as soon as we realised he’s the owner of this restaurant, we made a booking, given the extraordinary meals we had at The Square in the past. This restaurant is just as good, if not better. Service is impeccable, staff is attentive and kind, the food is faultless, super tasty! You feel like you’re at someone’s living room, cosy ambience, a lovely and comfortable feel to it! We give it five stars! 🌟
Affordable guality
We hadn’t been to Elystan’s for quite some time and I am happy to report that everything was just as good as before. We had the lunch menu which was delicious with so many original touches. The wine list although expensive is excellent and the service immaculate. We will be returning more often !
The worst and the best
My wife and I booked a 4-person table at Elystan Street with friends visiting us in London. I selected the place as I had read that it was run by the same managers/owners as Kitchen W8 that we enjoyed. Therefore, the disappointment was even bigger as the best way to characterise the dinner is a combination of the worst and the best. Some dishes were really excellent and supported the place's Michelin one star. Others - I'm thinking about the Cheese Soufflé that 3 of us chose - were barely edible as way too salty. That was also the case with one starter. We complained about this to the waiters - otherwise friendly and efficient - but to no avail. No form of compensation was offered for what was for most of us simply a bad experience. That's regrettable as the place is well located, nicely decorated, but currently does not live up to its Michelin star status.
Perfect lunch
The set lunch was delicious and excellent value. The customer service was exceptional from the friendly greeting when we walked through the door to being given a piece of the stunning 36 month aged Comté to take home after they heard that it was my absolute favourite cheese. We’ll certainly be booking a table for dinner soon.
