Absolutely Devine. I took my work colleagues ex wife here for lunch and it was nothing short of sensational. Was everything you can imagine and more.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect food, nice environment
Celebration dinner, ordered three course meals. Entree with prawns, refreshing feeling. Eye fillet main, tender and juicy. Crème brûlée is the dessert putting a full stop for the night
Be the first to ReplyMessage to Australian Restaurants-“actually serve what you offer on ‘your menu’!
The two of us ordered the same two entries for lunch. For starters all four plates came at once……2 plates had to be placed on the table next to us! sitting there getting cold!!! On the menu - “Chevre Chaud”……our tiny piece of chevre was “cold-straight out of the refrig and very very hard and dry.” “Warm Goat’s Cheese” as stated on the menu was what attracted us to ordering that item!!!!!…. but it’s not what we got! I complained and the waiter returned to our table after consulting the chef stating that it was warm!!!!! - liars both of them. No wonder the restaurant wasn’t busy!…..we won’t ever be returning. What is wrong with restaurants in Australia that they think they can just ignore what the customer has ordered “from their menu”?

We ordered of the set menu Pate;scallops; frogs legs; steak tartare and the pork Each starter was perfect Then four of us had the steaks and each was cooked to perfection our other friend had fish and again it was cooked perfectly Great service by Oliver Thank you

Having recently learned my DNA is 32% French (Devereux) I now realise why I enjoy both good French wine and their cuisine. So the Minister of War and I were on a bit of a sojourn in the side streets of Prahran just around the corner from our apartment, when we stumbled on this quite expansive and very French themed restaurant. As it was quite early we were greeted warmly and shown to our seat in their Brasserie section. The tables were quite close together (another Parisienne quirk) but comfortable but small. Service was attentive and pleasant, mostly by people with a French connection. Anyway to the wine list, not for those with a short pocket and long fingers, I would suggest right up there in price and quality. We opted for an NZ inspired Chenin Blanc by Sato, an exceptional, crisp and dry wine but fruit that exploded on the middle palate. Now to the food, for “she who must be obeyed”, pan fried Dory, zucchini flowers stuffed with a scallop mousse in a light jus and pesto. Verdict..a successful blend of flavours, balanced and enjoyable, BUT the dish was just warm. Pour moi, Boudin Blanc de Paris , a chicken sausage served with Paris mash in a morel jus. Verdict…m’mm the mash had no seasoning, the sausage worked but again the dish was lukewarm, so it remained unfinished. When I mentioned this to our table attendant they were genuinely mortified and offered a re-serve but alas the moment had passed. As for the pomme frites, almost cold. Even though I objected they still discounted the bill which in today’s world was a nice touch. In conclusion not a great experience but I am sure if we return things will be different. Great personnel and internal ambience.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful French restaurant!
We recently dined here with our (local) relatives whilst visiting from Sydney and found the food, staff and ambience to be excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed myTartelette au Homard entree and Poisson et Fleur main with fresh and perfectly balanced flavours. Our waitress was very attentive and thoughtful, even surprising my daughter with a congratulatory dessert on the occasion of her recent graduation, which made our night even more special. We highly recommend this fine establishment and will most definitely return on any future visits to Melbourne.

Myself and my twin brother flew to Melbourne from Perth especially to eat at Entrecôte along with my partner. Three very good friends also flew from Sydney to help us celebrate. Speaking with the reservation team was always effortless. We all had an amazing dining experience. Everything about our day was very special indeed. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table which looked gorgeous. The service was impeccable, especially from Shania and Primo and everyone who looked after us. Champagne was poured and we ordered our entrees and mains. Baguettes and the delicious butter was served and we had time to soak up the wonderful atmosphere and the brilliant piano player enhanced the ambience of this beautiful restaurant. The Chef's created delicious meals. Our entrees were served and we all were very impressed with the flavours of what we had each ordered. The spiced Queensland prawns were succulent and very tasty and I was told the Tartare was delicious. Our mains were just as good. The special of the day, Duck with Mandarin was cooked to perfection and the fish of the day looked and tasted amazing. Sides were ordered and were perfect with the meals that were served. Also, the Tarte au Citron is like no other! There is a very extensive wine list to choose from. Our birthday celebration at Entrecôte was absolutely wonderful and perfect in every way and will go down in history as one of our best birthday celebrations ever! A huge thank you to all of the team at Entrecôte who helped to make this a beautiful moment in time.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointing
Extremely disappointed. The bread was served cold. The soup was served in bowls dirty of spilled soup on the outside. The fish was too salty. The lamb was below average. In total - very very disappointing restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant but not award-winning steak!
I’ve been here a few times the last couple of times steak was very tough. Thought I’ll give it another go take my husband out for his birthday, steak was terrible AGAIN! for both of us felt like will chewing on chewing gum. we have medium rare, steak came out rare, which we don’t mind, we had this signature dish steak which we definitely think looks like a rump steak, we were very disappointed. Entrees were lovely , cocktails and wine was nice but the mains were very disappointing. Especially after paying $598 for lunch for 2 of us. I couldn’t finish the steak as it was too chewy. I did mention it to the waitress when she asked me if everything was okay, but she put it on me that it was my fault that I didn’t mention it from the start, but I’m not the type to complain and try and look like I’m trying to get a discount, but I did let her know This was the second time that I’d come here and the steak was very tough and then again she tried to blame me that I should’ve said something from the start Which maybe I should have, not that that would’ve made any difference the damage was done! Big shame, Not sure if I will go back

Maybe the hottest restaurant to Herald Sun, but the worst otherwise.
The first time went there on a Tuesday, the service was wow and it truly felt that Melbourne finally has a restaurant which knows good food and service.
On this note took my partner there who came back to Melbourne after a while as a welcome back and the moment we were seated everything from there went spirallingly downhill.
Firstly there is no one at the host table you actually need to call someone to get your attention. No offers of taking the coats.
Next we got seated on the wrong table just because the host got the names mixed up as he found the names similar with other guests of the same race, post which when asked to move, they were not even apologetic about it.
While seated on the earlier table, the drinks menu and the water took ages to come.
Once we moved to the other table, we first informed that the marble on the table is wobbly, and the waiter just was dismissive of it, when all it required was a simple piece of cardboard to get it right.
It was almost 10 minutes we had to wait before we lost our patience and had to ask for the food menu.
When we were ready to order, I just had a simple favour which was instead of the desserts on the menu, if I could have the chocolate mousse which was on the bar menu and the waiter just went no you can't , you need to stick to the menu, we also offered to charge us extra if they would like it.
After asking to change the waiter to a specific one (the former one did not even have the courtesy to inform him) , the next one said it was possible and that felt like a little sigh of relief.
While waiting for even the entrees which seemed to be an eternity, surprisingly the desserts came out first 🤣 and this was another waiter who came to serve was so confused when we told him that we have not even started our entrées .
Every time we needed a drink refill it was a herculean task to get the attention of one of the waiters. All of them were either pretending to be busy by walking here or there or they were chit chatting with one another at the bar.
The restaurant manager Clive (who later claimed not to be the manager) came up a couple of times trying to be apologetic and trying to defend his waiters (which we completely understand) but in this instance all you do is accept the mistake, apologise, move on and ensure there are no more good ups and be more attentive. But Clive was to busy trying to explain how they were the hottest restaurant in Melbourne by Herald Sun.
We came to a point of where enough is enough and asked for our cheque and they did not even realise that they haven't served our desserts and were still charged for one three course meal.
The staff looked tired probably because of the weekend, however that's not an excuse for a customer who comes in at any time of the day and is still paying the same price as any other day.
Left completely disappointed and they definitely need training on what finesse is if that's what their claim is.
Buck up Entrecote.
The only saving grace there is Gabriella, Christian, Steven and the food to an extent. (PS - atleast serve some warm bread )
Disappointing
Very arrogant staff. We called first to ask if we could sit at the bar and the staff said yes if you come now we have seats. When we arrive there were still seats at the bar but when the front of house eyed us up and down we were told we could only sit outside. It was freezing and no one else out side so zero atmosphere. We asked about sitting at bar and having the bar menu which is promoted on the website. He said it was a bit of an ‘anomaly’ and that we actually couldn’t have the bar menu at the bar??
It’s a shame, my sister who we were visiting lives nearby and has been a long term patron in both locations , this was the last straw for her when she heard this story.
Awful service & attitude
We decided to stop in for a casual visit to sit on the street.
We waited patiently for someone to ask if we wanted a table. No one acknowledged us. Eventually after some time had passed, we had to ask a waiter if we could take one of the tables outside.
A different waiter came to serve us. The whole time we felt like we were not welcome. It was a terrible feeling. We thought maybe it was because we were dressed casually in street clothes, but there was something off about how the staff were responding to us. It was the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant.
So sad as we will never come back. We really liked the food, the mitraillette has been one of our favourites for the last few years.
UNFORGETTABLE
MICE DURING DINNER and CARELESS MANAGEMENT
We had dinner on Tuesday 3rd (booking at 20.30h) and we decided to chose Entrecote the place to celebrate for our anniversary. The first impression of the place is quite nice, good atmosphere and nice details in decoration.
We had two cocktails really well prepared, and decided to have a bottle of wine with our 2-courses menu each.
Entrees: scallops, nothing really impressive and you will forget about this as soon as you finish it. Souffle, really tasty and flavourful, so 1 out 2.
Mains: duck, quite nice and interesting choice. Porterhouse, nothing different from getting it at a normal pub.
Now this is the worst part. As we were having wine and enjoying the last two glasses, almost willing to share a dessert, WE SAW A MOUSE. Not only for one or two seconds, just wandering around under the tables for like 10 minutes straight.
We decided to tell one of the waitress and she was, of course, really in shocked. So we decided to tell this to a tall guy, long hair and with glasses, who responded that 'is a problem they are dealing with and they use mousetraps'. We asked to move to a different table at least to finish the wine and leave that place, because, who would like to have dessert knowing that there are mice going around? NOT A SINGLE REASONABLE HUMAN BEING.
When we asked for the bill, we asked again for the manager. A lady, short hair came to us in our request, and we explained her literally that "we were more than willing to pay for the full amount of the bill, but it is not acceptable that a place like that opens their door and give service AND FOOD with this huge issue, like nothing happens, and we decided to take it easy because we are not that kind of people that decide to make a scene to get advantage (we regret to not leave as soon as we spotted the mouse, if we knew that this lady, was so careless and nothing emphatic with the whole issue)"
We work in hospitality as a waiter and manager aswell, and we really felt that this place LACKS OF MANAGEMENT, in terms of empathy and common sense. Not even a sincere apology. That's shocking.
This review will be another on the unanswered bad reviews through this web so I am not expecting nothing. Just be aware that you will get a normal and not mind-blowing dinner, and hope that the mice are not around your table because any of the managers will show you any kind of human response.
WHAT A SHAME
Very overrated
Slow and indifferent service, very noisy, pleasant entree (smoked salmon salad) but overcooked steak for main course, watery coffee.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful ambiance, warm service, great food
Excellent setting and a really beautiful restaurant. Loved the personal and unapologetic service of Christian and Angel . The food was great and well presented. Went with my wife . I ordered the oysters and their signature dish cooked medium rare . Both , exceptional. My wife ordered the prawns and the trout . She loved it! The creme brûlée was a real delight .
On a negative note : men’s restrooms were smelly, something that I find unacceptable when the restaurant is at that standard.
Highly recommended for a great night out as long as you remember it’s not Paris and you are not French
Beautiful ambience, disappointing food
On the plus side the restaurant feels very comfortable and chic. Our dining experience on the other hand was underwhelming. We ordered the signature steak- all described it as unflavoured and chewy, have bought better from the local supermarket. . Eyefillet was an extra $13 to the fixed price menu meaning you’d be paying around $70 for a 250g piece of steak. The salad was served as one for the table, small portioned with no dressing.. Good range on the wine list.
Be the first to ReplyIf there was a zero rating that's what I'd use
This was the most disappointing and underwhelming dining experience I have had for some time.
The Table
Our booking was for five people and unfortunately the table settings do not accommodate five people as there was three tables of two so one of our party was essentially left with no-one sitting opposite which is not an ideal dining situation. We spoke to waiting staff who were unable to provide an alternative or action our suggested solutions.
The Waiting Staff
In the main, we found them to be unhelpful, unfriendly and off hand.
The Wine
We ordered a bottle of red wine to accompany our main course which was not available. Our second choice of wine arrived after the main course.
The Food
The entrée prawns look like they were from the freezer at Aldi, far from a premium dish.
The souffle is not anything close to what a souffle should be.
My eye fillet steak was under cooked (ordered medium) and the bernaise sauce was tasteless and gelatinous.
The Toilets
The toilets were unkept with toilet paper over the floor in the women’s cubicles and the men’s toilet had vomit visible.
Other Patrons
At the end of the evening a table of diners who had been seated outside were moved to a table next to us. They were intoxicated and noisy. One of the men on this table verbally abused my husband. These diners should never have been invited indoors and should not have been served more alcohol if staff were adhering to RSA guidelines.
We spent approx. $700 on a substandard meal and dining experience. Upon further communication with the restaurant regarding our experience no compensation was offered. We won't be back.
Perfect
Our birthday celebration with 12 friends was made more special by the staff and styling and mood and food of Entrecôte. There was no room to improve our experience. Big thanks to all the staff.
Be the first to ReplyOk - very expensive but not great
Service was really good but food was ordinary considering the price. Over $200 a head for lunch expect something amazing. Wine was good
Be the first to ReplyVery Disappointing
The valentines experience was so disappointing. The menu was extremely limited in choice and the quality has dropped. We ordered prawns for entree in which we were served three extremely small prawns that were served on a bed of tasteless cantelope and tomato sauce. The entree was followed by Entrecote’s tradition steak and chips served with a side salad. Unfortunately, the both steaks were tough and the side salad had withered. However, the shared desert was good with plenty of flavor. Overall this menu carried a high price tag for below average food. This is not a high end restaurant anymore.

Ambiance was good. While noisy it did have a buzz. Service was ok but wine topping up should have been prompter as we should not have needed to ask. Beef tartare and scallops were excellent. Would have preferred if they had an ala carte menu rather than the set 2 and 3 choice.
Be the first to Reply90% there. Big expectations.
I have been here twice in the last two weeks so before I am critical I wanted to make sure I review this establishment accurately. The ambiance is second to none, the decore and set up is excellent. The service at entry is impeccable. Table service was adequate, yet lacking some attention and some waiters had an air of arrogance. Just like you are in Paris. My chair was partly broken, but was comfortable enough. We were a party of four and were seated in the main restaurant. It was hot. The AC was broken and it was quite uncomfortable. Call before coming to make sure it works, otherwise I would suggest cancelling. The room was full and it was quite noisy, but ok. Not an environment for a romantic meal. Prawn starter was bland. Burrata was nice. The eye fillet steak was ordered medium rare. A little burned and leathery on the outside and nicely cooked on the inside. I've had better. The salad was clearly out in the heat in the kitchen and was wilted. Chips were superb. Others had the fish which was OK. Deserts ordered were the Profiterole (stale choux pastry and icy flavourless vanilla icecream - plain wrap quality - inedible) . Chocolate mousse - was also very underwhelming. The lemon tart was exquisite and so was the creme brulee. Overall we were happy, but it did not meet expectations for the pomp and ceremony the environment exudes...not to mention the prices.
