Made a dinner reservation for our anniversary. For some reason, we were given a table in the bar area, and our "server" was the bartender, so naturally we came second fiddle to the bar patrons. In my opinion, a restaurant should never seat you at the bar without asking, especially for special occasions. The steak, as always, was very good. Well seasoned and prepared, but that's par for the course. At this price point, you expect good food AND amazing service. Case-in-point, this is the first time I've been to Flemings that I haven't been asked midway through my meal if I wanted the lava cake. Why? Because that's not something a bartender would do. You can just tell the difference. Seems like corporate cost-cutting to me. Why hire another server when you can just overwork the bartender, right? It's one thing to take a burger order at lunch, but a full dinner service is another story altogether. Our service was totally dependent on how busy the bar was, and that definitely made our special occasion feel a little less special. I even had to walk our check to the front counter to pay, like a Denny's, because the bar got busy again.*Side note, I found it a bit ironic that my "blueberry lemon drop" cocktail had no blueberries in it. Looked and tasted like a cosmo, but he swore it was the right drink. I saw another one made later in the evening, and guess what, blueberries. So much for having a bartender as a waiter.
