Disappointing experience
I rarely post a negative review but having received no response to my email to the General Manager feel I should share our experience. My birthday treat was turned from fine dining to comedy by incompetent service. The guests at the only other occupied table were laughing with us in disbelief as plates of food were put silently in random places on our table and we were left to work out what we were eating. Much of the food was nice but staffing issues need resolution. This restaurant sells itself as fine dining and charges accordingly. This was possibly our worst ever restaurant (or cafe) experience and despite the friendly concern of the woman at hotel reception the next morning we remain deeply disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat but over priced.
There for Christmas. A wonderful time. Such lovely staff. This place can serve up truly 1st class food, and it's only a matter of time before they get a Michelin star. BUT - like most places in Ludlow they are living on the reputation of Shaun Hill - who left the town 10+ years ago, and the resultant huge tourist demand. Note to tourists - Shaun is in Wales now. So prices here and elsewhere in town are just massively over priced , living on the historical reputations as a "foodie town", which is no longer deserved. There is a great restaurant in this town - but I'm not telling where. ( and it's not Bistro 7 )
Be the first to ReplyFlying at Fishmore...
My last visit here at Fishmore was December 2021, So it's been a long well overdue to come back here to eat once again!! I one thing I know about Fishmore more is that, I'm already Guaranteed a full flavoursome and banging taster menu. So Having spent time in Ludlow eating & shopping come here for lunch on my last day! Finished the trip off greatly. So Having had a beervand chill in the lounge just before my meal, it was time to start. Canapรฉs come out ! Both 3 was dam so good. Excellent way to get you i the mood for the coming delights. Next was the Roscoff Onion, Gruyere & walnut!! Now Roscoff is in my eye's my favourite Onion! And this was really really good! Now who doesn't live Cheese & Onion? Next up was the Bread, which was a perfectly baked Focaccia! The Spring in that bake was a goodun and not too oily.. After the bread break.. it was Celeriac, Cep, Lovage.. The flavours from this was literally spot-on, every just blended well together! I always get a little excited when i see Celeriac on a menu as it's not used much, but is a blessing thing to eat! And this worthy being on the menu. Next was the Scallop, Sweetcorn, Chorizo, Coriander! Scallop was nice plump & luscious, perfectly cooked and all flavours absolutely worked ! With a coquette crunch to add a little texture. Now for the main of Rose Veal, Turnip, Sweetbread, Seaweed.. Now there's one thing on this plate i don't see very often anyone? Sweetbread! The baby beef was so bostin and tender, Sweetbread was just what i needed, and the Seaweed brought a flavour of sea/oyster to the plate.. absolutely brilliant main ! Let's talk desserts now... Apple, Douglas Fir, Buckwheat, was the pre-dessert! This was ever so refreshing to the mouth! Dam delicious... Next up was this Salsify, Chocolate, Hazelnut... Now this dessert is definitely the best one i tasted this year and for awhile! It was that good the feeling it gave to me while eating it was a feeling of pure happiness. Plus a dessert with Salsify root vegetable in in, I've not seen or heard that before! Top marks for this magical thing... Then it was the petit Fours to finish off a really really really bostin lunch! Till next time! And hopefully won't leave that long to the next visit.....

Was everything one might expect from. Michelin listed restaurant - and more. The setting is lovely, overlooking the lawns of the Fishmore Halls hotel just outside of Ludlow, with fields and the Shropshire hills beyond. The service was impeccable and faultless. The dishes, well! My view on tasting menus is I expect to be wowโed by at least two thirds to three quarters of the courses. I think my wife and I had eight courses. We agreed that all but one course wowโed us. And the course that didnโt quite have the wow factor was still enjoyed. A particularly pleasing aspect was a large selection of wines by the glass, with prices ranging from under ยฃ10 to ยฃ24. Appreciated as I was driving. I would have no hesitation in returning next time we are in the area. Thanks all at Forelles for a perfect lunch.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing tasting menu
Booked in for the tasting menu. Ordered classic and vegetarian option. Personally didnโt want to try the tasting menu as Iโm not as much of a foody as my partner. Have to say that the taste of all the courses were amazing and happily ate everything. Partner has had tasting menus before and she said itโs nicest one sheโs had. We stayed in the hotel (Fishmore) for 2 nights.. they do offers that include the tasting menu which I didnโt opt for so if you are thinking of staying book the tasting deal as might save you some money.. weโll worth the money

Taster menu was delicious but what really made it a special experience was the service. It made it magical. The setting was beautiful as well.

Fabulous. Food impeccable in terms of cooking, presentation and service. It certainly enhances Ludlow's reputation as a foodie town
Be the first to ReplyGood food, but ....
I came to this restaurant with my friends for lunch and I'm unhappy with my experience at this restaurant. A member of staff aged around 55-60 years old was too obsessed with serving and came to the table too often. This same staff member was in the men's toilets and told me that I have a nice bottom and invited me for a coffee in a quieter place. I feel this behaviour is unacceptable at a restaurant and was very uncomfortable with the whole situation. But i have to admit food was really decent.
Be the first to ReplyWeโll put together tasting menu
We stayed at the hotel and chose the tasting menu for dinner. The menu was well constructed, every course was superb. I especially liked the venison. Serving staff were attentive and the restaurant was well presented. Overall a lovely evening.
Be the first to ReplyAwfulโฆ love to see this chef as a contestant on Master Chef โฆ they need upskilling
Highly disappointed in this restaurant I have honestly never paid so much for a meal that was so poor. Raw mullet as a main course is not recommended
Be the first to ReplyVery good quality
Every evening we have a different menu. Also a nice winelist or wine by glass. Sitting in the terrace is very nice
Be the first to ReplyAmazing tasting menu - we can't wait to go back
I wasn't expecting to find food of this standard at this restaurant. I asked my companions which were their favourite courses, and we all came up with two or three different ones, the chocolate dessert, the onion soup, the trout, the beef, the rhubarb, and on and on, changing our minds, because frankly, all the courses were superb. Far better than tasting menus I've eaten at more feted places. The wine pairing was first class. The service was excellent. We went back and tried the carte, because we enjoyed it so much. And we are all looking forward to coming back again. That is very rare with any restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect anniversary visit
Revisited this restaurant on our first anniversary after using it for our reception. Beautiful food, we both ordered adventurously and enjoyed every bite. Service was impeccable and when staff discovered we were there for an anniversary we were given a celebration card and some sweets. A lovely meal again, we will be back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat tasting menu on the hottest day since records began!
Went for lunch on the hottest day of the year, but even though 'Forelles' restaurant is in a large conservatory, there were plenty of windows and doors open and we stayed cool. Our first time here after a number of recommendations from friends, we were the only ones in Forelles for most of the time we were there, think the heat had put people off, 35 deg C! We chose the tasting menu which was 8 courses including the generous canapรฉs, and petit fours. Very high quality presentation and cookery, all courses were delicious without exception. Service was a little slow given the lack of customers, but it was friendly and helpful. We shall definitely be returning.
Be the first to ReplySurprised by negative reviews, really lovely
Top quality, well executed imaginative but not over fancy food. Was slightly worried about negative reviews but I feel theses are very unfair. Had the taster menu for lunch. All elements immaculately executed with really good saucing and top quality ingredients. Lovely setting. Service understated but really friendly. People coming in for afternoon tea towards the end of our meal that looked really lovely as well. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, poor food and terrible service
Made the mistake of going here for a family birthday on a Sunday evening. They served us Sunday lunch in the evening that was so dry I think it was probably cooked at lunchtime and reheated. I complained to the waiter that it was dry and overcooked and he couldn't have cared less. We asked for small plates for our children but was still charged ยฃ21 for a reheated meal for a 3 year old. I complained again when paying the bill and the waiter just shrugged and took my card. So disappointed with everything about this experience on what was supposed be a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyScents of the farm
Firstly ยฃ85 for a rating menu outside of London and not at a place with a star is a joke. Most of the food we had was decent, but very much nothing special. The thing that has really skewed the score was the mainโฆ the iberico pork was disgusting, there is no other word for it. It both tasted and smelled like a farm yard! It wasnโt the pork, but the palm hearts that were responsible; anyone that thinks that flavour is pleasant or works with pork needs their taste buds testing. Would never come back, might even avoid the post code just in case.

Having been here plenty of time in the past, so had to get a visit in before the end of 2021..
Knowing what to expect and they now have a new head chef it was time to see if i has changed for the worst or better?
And thankfully it hasn't got worse! Fish was some canapes which are always good.
The a great tasting roast onion consomme which packed a great flavour punch.
The regular great tasting breads with Marmite butter and seaweed butter, a delicious artichoke & potato dish that was perfectly made.
Next was monkfish with smoked roe ! Fish was meaty and great! Only sad thing about this was the size, i wanted that monkfish a little bigger.
Then next was an Absolutely brilliant beef main that made me want another plate of it ! That good it was one of my outstanding dish from 2021.
Then The regular peach, pink peppercorn & champagne which is always great to eat.
Then this morish chocolate dome was so decadent and delicious.
Then to finish the afternoon off was some finely tasting petit fours! Tho the only complaint about this was the macaron was slightly crunchy!
Always great popping to Ludlow! And always great popping to Fishmore...
Delicious afternoon tea and dinner.
We stay in hotel in October and such a treat. Afternoon tea was delicious and dinner. Wow. Tasting menu is excellent. Staff very professional and friendly, nothing too much trouble for them. Highly recommend this palace for stay, dinner or afternoon tea.
Be the first to ReplyA celebratory dinner
My wife and I dined at Forelles last Wednesday 29th September 2021 and whilst we could not fault the standard of the food or presentation on the A La Carte menu we felt that we were ignored by the staff in preference to the other diners on the Tasting Menu. My main concern was that the wine was placed on a different table and topped up as required. NormallyI have no concerns over this arrangement but on this night I had my glass topped up to half and my wife had hers topped up as normal. I then remarked that she would have to finish the bottle as I had had sufficient. There was still at least half a glass left in the bottle. When my wife asked for a top up we were told that the bottle had been removed as it was empty, this was not the case.
Never before, in any establishment, has our wine been removed before the bottle was empty. This was, in my opinion, a travesty with the wine costing ยฃ35 a bottle and I feel that the staff would benefit from some more in house training.

Very good food. Eat, but donโt sleep.
Sadly the hotel is poor, but the restaurant food was very good. I feel sorry for the chef and other restaurant staff, the hotel is letting them down.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner, took over two hours!
We had the 3 course a la carte which was excellent. There were a few extras which made it more like 7 courses! Lovely, will come again

It really was a very pleasant evening dining in Forelles. The food was superb, staff friendly and helpful, surroundings peaceful and relaxing.
We can highly recommend you give it a try.
Fantastic food - great option for a special occasion
We loved our meal at Forelles - taken as part of a two night walking and dining weekend break. The food was simply exquisite and so beautifully presented. I could see why people rave about the food and if I was closer I would certainly come back!
You definitely need to book as it was very busy when we visited. The staff are very welcoming and attentive and explained each dish of wine in detail.
We had the three course set meal, which also came with complimentary home baked bread with speciality butters, an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser too!
A lovely experience for a special occasion!
Fantastic food and service
We were lucky to get a cancellation last night. The food was very tasy and well presnted. The service was very good and attentive to our needs.
Thank you for a lovely evening.
