A little in the dark...
The food is all in all not bad. The place is ver dark (Romantic?) and a lttle on the expensive side for what you get.
Be the first to ReplyTwo dinners
My friend ani went on Friday for dinner and I’m not much on vegan food. But I was impressed. Service and food were great. Friday I had pad thai noodles. Also had crab cakes and another appetizer. We also had chocolate fudge cake. Yummy! Saturday we couldn’t find a table. But they had a opening 😊. This time I had drunken noodles and my friend had pho! Both were delicious we had dumplings and another appetizer. No desert this time

Two great meals at Franchia. The scallion cakes were the best I have ever had anywhere, savory with crispy outsides and tender insides. Their stuffed mushrooms were divine! 5-stars for the Stone Bowl meals. Your rices and veggies stay super hot and crisp up from contact with the furnace of a stone bowl. The soy-ginger sauce was the perfect accompaniment. No room for dessert, but had the flourless chocolate cake that was heavy with almond and dark chocolate richness. My next trip to New York will definitely include at least one (two ....three....) meals as Franchia.
Be the first to ReplySo disappointing
This has been one of my favorites for years. I couldn’t wait to come back after the pandemic. I am still Squeamish about eating indoors, so I ordered takeout spring rolls and pad Thai. I am sorry to report that it was inedible and ended up in the garage, all $44.60 of it. I would not be writing this review if I hadn’t spent double of what a similar meal usually costs. I sure hope this gets better, but I won’t be tempted to try again.

Delicious lunch at @franchiavegancafe in New York. We enjoyed the Asian fusion cuisine with the Korean twist and excellent service. Ordered lunch special ( Drunken Basil Noodles & Vegetable Curry Hot Pot) that came with the vegan clam soup. Could not resist and got Peking Buns as an appetizer. The loose leaf Jasmine Tea was served in cups (the hot water was added per your request). In the end we shared the slice of cheesecake. You must visit this place!!!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible vegan restaurant, an oasis of quiet. Must try for vegans/vegetarians.
The food and teas and other beverages were a definite cut above. Asian fusion cuisine--everything was delicious! The Peking buns were a standout as was the stone bowl rice dish. So many options--it was hard to choose! Great location not far from Empire State, and simple serene decor. The staff was extremely nice and attentive and the kitchen was fast. There are a lot of places in mid-town but few that cater to vegans--and the non-veg members of your party will enjoy too. I want to come back soon!
Be the first to ReplyAdministraror’s attentio
the administrator's attention is terrible, today I had a reservation at 8, I arrived earlier and as there were tables available, I only had to advance it, as I had a reservation they told me no. Then my husband came in and they were going to accommodate him at a table, when he saw that I was the companion he immediately told him that I had to wait half an hour, I sat at one of the tables to wait, the waiter was going to attend me, I was going to request something to drink and when the administrator saw it immediately he said no. I felt disappointed, I hope that this man reflects and offers a better service to women. What a shame because he really wanted to eat at the restaurant.

Nice midtown Manhattan location. The staff was pleasant. The kitchen was fast. We made a reservation for an early dinner to play it safe.
Large price tag for feeding 5 adults. $250 for the meal and that included only one glass of wine and no desert. The food wasn’t bad but not as good as would warrant the hefty bill. Maybe they charge more because it’s a “vegan” restaurant.
We’ll try Beyond Sushi next time.
Sushi was superb, service was not as superb
We visited as a group of 7, after a recommendation from a friend insisting that we try the various vegan sushi options. As a non-veg individual, I could not cite any major differences between Franchia's various vegan sushis and their seafood counterparts. I was very intrigued how they were able to mimic the texture & mouth feels of crab & fish from soy, seaweed and plant based bases. We tried the following rolls: crispy tofu skin, spicy tuna, dragon roll, & volcano roll. We loved all of them, but insisted n ordering 3 more dragon rolls. We also tried the pumpkin noodle salad, drunken basil noodles; just because I cannot control myself from trying salads with beets as well as drunken noodles. Both were fresh, tasty & delicious!
Be the first to ReplyGreat variety of vegan food
You can expect delicious salads and well prepared vegan appetizers. Nice seating outside in Park Avenue, clean and safe.

We have wanted to try this place for some time and tonight was the opportunity after a day of walking and shopping. Sat outside and had some interesting drinks made with Soju - a pear drink and a mojito that were both excellent. Steamed dumplings, sizzling mushroom platter and a Franchia roll rounded out the meal. Food was tasty and filling. Service was distracted and not very smooth but the food made up for it and we will be back.

I had a great experience at Franchia. The food was excellent, full of flavour and a very varied menu to choose from. I enjoyed the Vegetable Hot Stone Bowl with brown rice - wonderful combination of ingredients with just the right amount of spice.
Service was really good - very attentive and the whole experience was excellent. Highly recommended, and next time I am in NYC I will definitely be booking again.
So good I went there twice!
It's hard to decide where to eat when you only have 36 hours in New York. The restaurant I had planned to go to (Hangawi) had no availability, so having seen Franchia from the airport shuttle bus that took me to my hotel, and seeing the sign outside indicating "vegan cafe", I dropped in to check out the menu and make a reservation.
Franchia is being somewhat humble by calling itself a vegan cafe. To me, it was a beautiful high quality restaurant serving exquisite food. I arrived at the specified time and was shown to my table by charming and attentive staff.
The menu was sufficiently varied to generate interest in several dishes. I launched straight in with the vegetable stone bowl with brown rice and ginger-soy dressing, a hearty combination of healthy ingredients including green leaves, seaweed, roots and mushrooms. The stone bowl kept everything very hot indeed, and the flavours were fantastic.
There was a good wine list including vegan and organic wine, without sulphites, by the glass and the bottle.
The dessert menu was varied and the sorbet delicious.
Restaurant staff were all very helpful, prompt with service, friendly and respectful. My evening meal experience was so good that I had lunch there the following day, and ordered exactly the same main course. I subsequently discovered that Franchia was the sister restaurant to Hangawi, where I had originally wanted to eat as a result of a great previous experience.
So, when in New York for 36 hours, do yourself a favour and go to the delightful Franchia. You may even want to go twice...
Decent food, not so great service
Since I had never been to the restaurant before, I asked the waiter to recommend their best dish, and he recommended Pad Thai. When I said i wanted to try something a little more adventurous, he wasn't sure what to recommend. He seemed distracted and recommended I look more at the menu. He came back after awhile, and I ordered the Tom Yum noodles. I got some kind of soup--definitely not noodles, and it wasn't like any Tom Yum I'd had before. I was in a hurry, so I didn't say anything, and just ate it. It was pretty good. I was disappointed with my experience, but the folks at the tables on both sides of me were regulars and only had good things to say, so I'll try this restaurant again, and will amend my review if it turns out better the 2nd time around.
