Food was tasty although nothing extraordinary.
A bit pricey for what you get. Services and ambiance excellent though. Antonio the waiter was attentive, friendly, just on it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance, it's a rustic farmhouse setting in NYC.
..HOWEVER, the service was meh and the food quality did not align with the high prices. It's a great Sunday brunch meeting spot, but be prepared to be underwhelmed and over pay for your meal. My last visit was almost 29 years ago and it was completely different experience then. There are too many great brunch places with high quality food and service in NYC, pass on this one.

Came here for lunch with a friend and thankfully we had a reservation because there was a long line for a table when we got there. I ordered the southwestern wrap and it came with a side of homefries. It was pretty underwhelming overall and not very warm when I got it. A few of the bites of the wrap were just straight sour cream and it had plain avocado in it instead of guacamole which I think would have added more flavor. I asked our server for some hot sauce to go with it, but she didn't come back until I was almost completely done with my food. Pretty average meal for $19 and service was just fine, think it was my fault for not ordering something more popular from the menu. My friend got a salad with shrimp and it looked pretty good.
Be the first to ReplySolid brunch everytime.
Great pancakes. Friendly service. I also love that's a converted town home it feels so cozy.

I went there with my friends for brunch and there was a line outside, so we had to wait a bit. The inside has a nice vibe and the lighting is not bad if you are seated by a window like we were. They also brought us complimentary cornbread with apples, which was nice. I do feel like the food in general was kind of bland though. Probably not going to go back to eat there but it was an enjoyable experience.

To start off with the positives, the atmosphere is really nice and the seasonal hibiscus lemonade cocktail was very good. The food, however, was disappointing. I ordered a steak and I found it bland with close to no seasoning (I think it was the first time I have ever asked for seasoning at a restaurant to add to my steak) and it was very over seared giving it a burnt unpleasant taste and a tough, overcooked texture. The steak I got would have been disappointing at a Chili's, at a higher-end restaurant, which we only went to for a special event, and where the steak is 60 dollars it is very disappointing. My partner's short rib was good (don't know if it was 43 dollars good), but the sides that we both got were bland. It's a cute spot so maybe its brunch is good, but I would definitely not go for dinner.

Horrible. Horrible. Rude lady at the front. Won't ever go back. Everyone always says how bad this place is- just good for the decor.

SO AMAZING LOVE THIS PLACE! We got the breakfast special and then some lemonade on the side. The house cornbread that comes as the appetizer was amazing with butter - one of my fav brunch spots in the city for sure

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with 2 friends and we couldn't make reservations on a Sunday so we did walk in and got immediately seated which was great. I think because it was raining it was less packed, but the upstairs area is huge! My one complaint is that the menu is a bit limited and pricey but still found things we liked. They gave us a complimentary cornbread with apple sauce on top which was good, the bread was a bit too flaky. My friend got the vegan pot pie and another got the chocolate chip pancakes (this wasn't on the menu but they were able to make it). The pancakes were super delicious and rich, the pot pie was creamy and had a ton of veggies. I got the farmer omelette but took out the cheese and replaced it with tomatoes. So I got a spinach, mushroom, tomato omelette and it was honestly so delicious and had so many vegetables. I added hollandaise sauce, and the potatoes were so flavorful and yummy! The service was super attentive and helpful as well.

The food was so good, service perfect, and it's such a cute farmhouse. It was nice to step out of the city for a few hours. If your there for brunch, try the cornbread waffles or the Tory's toast.

Had heard really good things about the place and Irving is such a cute area.Food (3/5) - between us, got the boomer special, the frittata (daily quiche) and an omelette. The highlight was definitely the apple pancakes, those and the syrup were well done, fluffy and the right amount of sweet. Eggs were on the drier side in general, fresh ingredients. A little bland but they provide hot sauce / ketchup / salt and pepper upon request.Service (3/5) - service was quite slow despite the fact that we were seated on the second floor and there was only one other party there, right next to us. coffees served to us were also spilling around the edges.Ambiance (4/5) - cozy and homely inside though can get a little dim without the sun. restaurant has two levels, we sat on the top level, decor was a lot of farm-feel lamps / fake fruit baskets / tools etc.Price (2/5) - will set you back 30+ for a normal brunch.
Be the first to ReplySolid brunch spot.
We came here at 11:40 on a Sunday and waited around 10 minutes for a party of 7. We sat in the covered outdoor section which had cute cottage-core/farmhouse vibes. Food-wise, the French toast was well made and apple pancakes were very good. The cornbread waffle was pretty original and I loved that there were actual corn kernels inside! Not the crispiest waffle, but not bad. The salmon benedict on a cheese biscuit was also original. The biscuit made it feel a little dense, but still a solid eggs benedict.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing.
We came for brunch and got free cornbread with cinnamon peaches on top I almost cried it was so good. I got the sunrise sandwich and it was so large I couldn't finish it- worth the price for sure. I also got the farmers daughter cocktail and loved it. The prices aren't insane, in total for 3 adults it was $118 so that's very reasonable. Mark G was a slay we love him, great service. The ambiance in the outside seating was also so cute! Will be back

If you're looking for a cozy and charming breakfast spot in New York City, check out Friend of a Farmer. This restaurant offers a rustic atmosphere that feels like a getaway from the city. With two floors and a variety of baskets filled with fresh fruits, this place is sure to make you feel warm and welcome. The pancakes at Friend of a Farmer are to die for. They are simply delicious. On my first visit, I was blown away by the taste and texture of the pancakes. They have a slightly crispy outer layer and a soft and fluffy interior that I've never experienced before. The homemade apple cream syrup complements the pancakes perfectly and adds an extra layer of flavor that will leave you feeling happy and satisfied. You can order the pancakes individually for $18-$21 or opt for the Boomer Special for $24, which includes four different flavors to choose from: buttermilk, apple, blueberry, and pumpkin. My personal favorite is the apple pancake, which has small chunks of apple inside that add a delightful aroma and flavor to the dish. It also comes with home fries, your choice of meat (sausage, bacon, or ham), and scrambled eggs. The portions are generous, and the quality of the food is outstanding. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't take reservations on weekends, so you'll have to wait in line to get a table. However, the staff is friendly, and once you get a table they'll treat you to a complimentary cornbread which is also a personal favorite. If you're planning to visit Friend of a Farmer on a weekend, try to arrive before 11 am to avoid long waits. Alternatively, you can use the Resy app to make a reservation during the weekdays.Overall, Friend of a Farmer is a lovely spot for a relaxing and delicious breakfast in the heart of the city. Don't miss out on their amazing pancakes and warm hospitality!

Ordered the chicken pot pie which was just amazing! Could taste the rosemary from it too. So fresh and home cooked I would definitely go back for this. Staff were lovely also and very accommodating. Really enjoyed the overall atmosphere and candlelight in the evening.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was always a go to for me many years ago.
There's been an awkward renovation of the space. The rooms now I feel very small uncramped. If you go in the evening, the space feels very dark. I have very fond memories, but don't think I will keep this as a potential. Too many other good restaurants in the city. Time for something new.
Be the first to ReplyBeen sitting here an hour and a half without food.
Figured it would be a good time killer to submit the review. Can't say the food is any good because we haven't seen a hint of it. Service is pretty cold and inattentive.Came back to say...food isn't worth the wait. Lukewarm and wonderfully underwhelming. Don't waste your time.
Be the first to ReplyStood in line outside and waited for our 3rd to join us.
Seated pretty soon after they arrived. Waited 20 minutes before we asked another waitress to get our server. She apologized twice while we were waiting and told us that our server was new. Finally asked the hostess where about our server and she took our drink order. Waitress finally appeared about 35 minutes after we sat down. Still no drinks but she took our order - with no acknowledgment of what was going on. Finally drinks came from hostess about 45 minutes after we initially sat down. Food came about 10 minutes later. We were all pleased with our meals - Cobb salad, blueberry pancakes and hamburger. Our server brought bill immediately over when we were finished. Expensive but it is NYC so we expected the bill to be what it was. Would not dine here again. While food was fine it was not outstanding. The hostess knew there was a problem with the server and gave attitude when we spoke with her. For what we spent I would rather go someplace where they are concerned with customer service and not churning the customers over.

Stumbled upon this place for brunch when we decided that ABC kitchen's brunch menu wasn't what I remembered it to be and was too stark and not brunchy enough. The "system" for waiting for a table is chaotic and unclear but fortunately we snagged a seat without too much delay. It was worth the wait as breakfast was better than many places we've been to lately. Had the "Boomer" and wasn't disappointed in terms of quality or quantity. My partner had the salmon Benedict and the Hollandaise (which I am picky about) did not disappoint either. Everything was delicious. Place was cozy and want to come back for dinner as the dinner menu looks divine.
Be the first to ReplyI went for lunch with my partner.
So this is a review about lunch, not dinner. The first thing you will notice upon entering the restaurant is that it is absolutely adorable with a very cozy type of style decorated throughout the entire downstairs and upstairs. That being said, and I do understand that this is Manhattan, the spacing issues feel like they have definitely packed in more tables and chairs than people are comfortable walking around. There just doesn't seem to be much space, and of course I do understand that some spaces do this to have more customers - which is what you want to do when when you have a business; but the discomfort in the lack of space (even in the restroom) made me really uncomfortable. The other issue I found was the pricing. Again, I do understand that this is a part of Manhattan that is a bit pricier, and of course they put a lot of thought into where they source their food from, however, yogurt and granola with fresh fruit should not cost $17; avocado tartare should definitely not cost $20. These are just some smaller dishes. I ordered the grass fed barnburger and it was delicious; but I generally would not pay $22 for a burger, no matter how nicely you slaughter the cow. My partner had the same thing as me and had one drink which cost almost as much as 1 of our dishes, which is again, understandable for an alcoholic beverage considering where you're eating and drinking, but still, it was a bit ridiculous at around $16 for a flute of alcohol.I have definitely had better burgers elsewhere, and I know that the area where we ate at is not the cheapest, so this was slightly expected, but I still think if you're looking for somewhere to eat to validate buying a $22 cheeseburger, before tax and tip, you might want to search elsewhere. Our wait staff was great, and again, the food was really good, but the pricing, space and drink prices as well, sort of put me off. Just because I think it's a bit ridiculous to validate that type of pricing for regular brunch food. I did take a look at their supper menu as well and again, it's way overpriced to me. I do definitely think you would enjoy yourself coming here, I just think that if you're looking for a very unique menu that these prices don't validate the type of food that you're eating.I do still recommend it despite the issues I took with it.
