We booked to have a meal at Gauchos Piccadilly for yesterday evening. When we arrived we were kindly greeted and taken to our table. Sebastiano was our server for the evening and attended to our needs quickly ordering food and drinks. The meal was lovely, we shared empanadas which were lovely to start, For mains we had a burger and the lamb shank which was so tasty. Finally, we shared a delicious sticky toffee pudding. Altogether the food and cocktails were delightful and we were having a wonderful time, the bill arrived and it took a sour turn. We knew it would be an expensive meal for two and were happy to pay the 12.5% service charge on top of the bill because the food came quickly and there were no issues. On the bill, the service wasn’t added on so we told Sebastiano to put the £11.50 discretionary tip on top of the bill which we were more than happy to pay. However, even though Sebastiano was appreciative of our tip, he changed the tip into a £20 tip instead of £11.50 which was not 12.5% of our bill. He made us look like we couldn’t work out the sum for the bill and we felt forced to pay the amount he was saying when we were overcharged nearly £10. Although Sebastiano delivered our food promptly he wasn’t very polite and didn’t take much interest in us as customers. Also, the ambience of Gauchos is nice as it feels cosy but there aren’t many windows so feels very dark. It was the music that kept it lively. Although, we had a lovely meal, it was extremely disappointing to end it on such a sad note where we were very much overcharged for our meal. Yes we knew it would be expensive but he didn’t need to overcharge us just to get more money.
