Rude bartender and very expensive drinks
Rude bartender and ridiculously expensive drinks. We ordered expresso martinis and the bartender asked if we wanted Baileys we said yes. Another friend ordered an expresso martini with tequila rather than vodka. When the bill came we were charged $10 extra for each martini w/Baileys. We didnโt get a shot she poured a little splash in the glass. And my friend was charged $10 extra for the tequila. When my friend questioned her she said itโs already premixed with vodka so she couldnโt make it with just tequila. When asked why she didnโt tell her that before she became very rude. So we left and will not return.

Attended a private event in the lower level. Located in a former historic grain mill, I knew I was in for a treat. Two floors and two bars give GT a warm and welcoming environment. We were on the lower level for a private event. Service and foods were done right. The tuna poke and coconut crusted shrimp appetizers were quite tasty.

The good thing firstโฆ the food was ok. However, upon our first stop in, the hostess told us a 25 minute wait. We counted 14 open tables. Not sure what the problem was there. We made a block or so and checked back in. Upon looking over the menu, ( it was 2:15 pm) we assumed the fact that she gave us a brunch menu must be a mistake. But no, apparently not. We had breakfast 8 hours ago! I had noticed a nacho plate on THEIR sandwich board outside. I planned to order that but had to scramble to find something else when I was told that was the โdinnerโ menu. Our waiter was fairly prompt with our water and the draft I ordered. However, he never asked about a second round. While eating, we saw numerous parties leave when the hostess told them about a 20-30 minute wait and they could see all the empty ( and clean) tables. Had to ask twice for our check. Dessert never offered. Lots of lost revenue today. If restaurants want to bounce back from COVID, better service is necessary.

We stayed at the Harborside Inn, and this place was behind the hotel. It has a brick patio as well as a second floor that is like a wine cellar. It was late in the evening, and we were looking for something lite. My wife order the Greek salad and I ordered the chicken wings and fries. The wings were meaty, and the mild sauce was a good choice. The fries were crispy and not over greasy. My wife reported the Greek salad is excellent. This was a good choice for grabbing something lite and filling.

came in for a drink. most of the high-top tables are reserved for food service but managed to get a couple seats at the bar. they have a large outdoor area but it was windy and cold. the bar area is nothing special. dark with no real views outside. service was quick. limited beer selection but found one i liked. large tv is mounted on a side wall so everyone has to sit at 90 degrees to bar to view the tv. with so many better bars in in the area we never returned

On our first trip to Boston, we found ourselves exploring a bit at the harbor and picked The Granary Tavern based on it's location, it's looks, and reviews. And when we were in the area again the next day, we picked it so we could repeat the experience and the food. The oysters were very good, the beer was excellent, and the lobster roll was to die for. I didn't die though, and went back again. On top of that, the atmosphere was excellent and our servers were all personable and skilled. A very good experience - or rather, a couple of them.

Enjoyable meal for a group of five. A convenient location and great service! We enjoyed salad, chowder, fish and chips, and burgers. Local beers available. Enjoyed outdoor seating as inside was hot. Very accommodating and enjoyable downtown eatery!

What an awesome place. Food was A+! Good drinks, great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Clean bathrooms!!! Friendly staff. Definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyRude waitress
So we went there after looking online for a spot. Got each a meal that was ok. The service was not that good, not a smile from the waitress, the waiter was a bit more welcoming. After we paid and gave a tip the waitress came back asking us why did we tip that and asking us for more and she was clearly trying to be in a confrontation. I mean we answered her questions and she kept asking us 4 times the same thing. We of course did not get a goodbye as she disappeared right after. We will not be coming back for sure.

I read some of the other reviews and can't comprehend the reviews being all over the place. We gave the Granary Tavern a 5 out of 5, so did we catch it on a great day? Or is it like this every day? Or is it somewhere in the middle? We really don't know. Our service was great, the young lady at the door was more than welcoming, they let us switch tables to get away from the wind near the front door, the food was very good, everyone found something (incl. a Vegetarian), price was reasonable, and our group left satisfied! Would go again! Highly recommended for a slightly more casual atmosphere with plenty of choices, etc.! We don't like a big menu.....the bigger the menu normally means a less than appealing dinner/lunch experience. The menu size was sufficient. We started with a 'Huge' Bavarian Pretzel and the cauliflower: both great! For dinner: we had the Fish and Chips which were money! It's all about the freshness of the fish and the oil it's cooked in! Both were spot on. We also had the Tavern Steak=thumbs up, the fish tacos=great, thai noodle salad (dressing included inside the dish) w/ chicken added= great, and a vegetarian salad= very good, Cisco Brewers-Grey Lady= A+++! Bathrooms were clean, and the atmosphere was casual with a slight pub/Tavern feel (thus the name). More positives: high top tables available, an outside seating option, main entrance is street level for easy access to all, and the outside brick walls had the old school city vibe!

Went for a late lunch after touring the aquarium. Nice atmosphere. Not a huge menu but what they had was good. Lobster roll was wonderful. My daughter enjoyed her turkey sandwich. Fries were a bit cold. Server was nice. Quick lunch.

Went I for a drink. The waiter was nice, drinks were good. Very weird experience in the ladies room. A server was sitting on the floor of the handicap bathroom stall. So weird and uncomfortable. My daughter went about a half an hour later and they were still sitting on the floor. No one addressed it, staff did go in but they remained on the floor. So creepy won't go again
Be the first to ReplyGood Restaurant, not Great
We came here for dinner on a Friday evening. We had a reservation and were quickly seated. Our server took quite a while to come to our table to take drink orders but things improved dramatically from there. I had a burger which was fine; not bad but nothing special. Our daughter had the chicken and waffles which she enjoyed but it was a large portion, too much for her to finish. My wife had the lobster bisque which was really good but her salad was just OK. While not a bad place, there is nothing that would draw us back if we return to Boston. Many cheers ..........

Prompt service, great choice of food, nice atmosphere and great playlist! I recommend the Pork Belly special and the Tuna Poke!

My wife and I had breakfast here. Great value and great service. Great location as well. Just in between the Marriott Long Wharf and the Quincy Market.

You want to come here for a sit down lunch and get away from the crowds. Lots of indoor seating and some outside. Most of the good outside seating is street level next to the sidewalk. Service was a bit slow at lunchtime. We had a limited weekend brunch menu, but I ordered a fish sandwich. Something on it was pretty spicy, so be careful! I liked the relaxing atmosphere. One of the better lunches I had in Boston.

I headed to the granary today for an early dinner. The food was great, but the highlight of my visit was the wonderful service. My server Robin was extremely friendly and had an infectious smile! Ended my trip to Boston on a great note!
Be the first to ReplyOur server from Cork Ireland was the very best. Excellent food!
We absolutely loved our time here Cle had drinks and appetizers. The Avacado dip and tortilla chips were fresh and so good. The spicy shrimp was the best we had in Boston. Our server (from Cork Ireland!) was honestly the best part of our evening. So friendly and personable ~ but also just the very best server. Definitely will recommend to friends and family

The granary was a great experience and it was all because of Robyn. She was knowledgeable and ensured we got food and drink we wanted. The fish and chips was wicked good and the bam bam cauliflower (her suggestion) made the dinner so much better. Iโm coming back because of her!

This place has been here forever it seems. The menu is eclectic. Staff friendly. Food is uninspired and upscale Applebee's.
We came because of it's location but none of the 5 entrees we picked were memorable or spectacular.
What is wrong with this place?
this was the first restaurant I have ever walked out of! It was a humiliating experience and I do not recommend anyone go there until they have sorted out their problems particularly with staffing. I had made a reservation for lunch and we were were seated at the far end of the restaurant. No-one came to our table for 15 minutes. When I went to speak to a waiter, he brushed me off. Finally a waitress came by and we tried to order drinks. She was surly and rude and left our table without doing anything. We decided to leave there and then and as we walked out, all the waiters were standing by the bar chatting amongst themselves. The place was completely quiet as if everyone eating there had been bullied into not making a noise. It was humiliating and embarassing. The owners should be ashamed of their staff and their attitudes and do something about it.

We had dinner at Granary Tavern on our first night in Boston. It was near our hotel and has a nice historic feel about it. We were seated outdoors which was pleasant and our service was ok. We had a burger and grilled chicken breast. The burger was good but the chicken was fantastic. It was a good meal, definitely worth going back sometime.
Be the first to ReplyFriendly staff, excellent food
We had brunch here one afternoon after spending the morning on the water. The service was very good, and the food choices were excellent. We ordered the Biscuit & Gravy, Granary Burger with Fried Egg, NASCAR Benny, Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders, and a HUGE side of French Fries. The tenders were hot with great flavor! I'd only recommend getting the side of fries if multiple people are going to share them (it's seriously a large platter of fries, way more than I wanted to accompany my tenders which only came with a few pickles). We would certainly come back here again if in the area!

We came here after being snubbed at Legal Seafoods near the harbor despite having called ahead with our particular situation (separate review).
We were out for a family night on the town with four adults, a toddler and a dog, so I was feeling skeptical about finding another place that would accept us without a reservation. But, we had seen Granary Tavern on BringFido, which is a site that lists dog-friendly restaurants.
We were immediately seated on the patio. No fuss at all! The wait staff were polite and helpful. The food was quite good, especially the seafood: I can vouch for the seafood chowder and lobster roll (high praise from somebody from Maine!). The fries were also excellent. The toddler (and dog) enjoyed the kids' pasta and the adults enjoyed some local beers on tap.
Good for you, Granary Tavern! Keep up the good work.
Taken off reservation list
My sister and I popped in after visiting the aquarium around 1:30. The hostess told us there was a โ25 minute wait, maybe a little lessโ. We were put on a text notification for our table, and then we strolled around nearby, popped into another place for a quick pint while we waited for our table. 20 minutesโฆ 25โฆ 35โฆ. We wanted to eat at granary because the menu looked incredibleโฆ but we ended up eating an entire meal, and a few more pints without ever hearing from them. Disappointing that the text recall feature doesnโt even work, or we were removed.
